Reviews for Old Manse Hotel
Review 1:Nothing was bad of note. A very minor thing was the kettle in the room didn't reach the plug socket so we had to move the whole thing from where it was located across the floor
Review 2:Fantastic room and very comfortable bed. Very friendly staff and great food
Review 3:Bathroom is very tired and in need of refurbishment.
Review 4:Location is perfect, literally in the river. We had the Windeush suite which was nice. Staff were very helpful and friendly.
Review 5:Room clean but very dated, bathroom needs refurb (crack in toilet cistern, old black loo seat, old lino). V pricey (£120/nt) for travelodge equivalent room.
Review 6:Great location, friendly helpful staff. Lovely open fire in bar, perfect for mulled wine sipping!
Review 7:The decor as it needs updating. The breakfast was awful. The carpets were worn out. It was unclean.
Review 8:The location. Tom kerridge pie was excellent.
Review 9:Room a little tired and dirty and the beds too high and uncomfortable. My evening meal of spare ribs was served cold so i declined to eat and got a refund but i did not get an apology!!
Review 10:nice location
Review 11:No comment it was purfect
Review 12:Friendly staff and wellcomed on booking in. Restraunt was realy good with the wide range to choose from.accomadation was fantastic with every thing in to use .very wecomming.thankyou.
Review 13:The room set up, the beds were split as singles and the headboard did not fit the beds, so the pillows kept falling down the back. The beds were unusually high, don't think the mattress fitted the bed. The rear of the TVs was very thick in dust, don't think it had ever been cleaned. The room filled with cigarette smoke, when the window was open, due to smokers congregating outside in the courtyard below. The soft seating in the bar and reception area have now gone and the remainder just lends itself to sitting on restaurant style upright seating, very disappointing from our last stay.
Review 14:The location
Review 15:If you are after a sound night sleep, don't stay here. You can hear every floor board Creek, every word spoken and every baby crying. Someone putting a plug in, in the room next door sounds like someone trying to knock your wall down. The staff were pleasant enough, nothing above average.
Review 16:Great Location and good good value for money. Basic but clean.
Review 17:Blocked shower drain could have been avoided had the drain filter been cleaned .
Review 18:Excellent location wth car parking available . Annexe provides comfortable quiet rooms . Helpful and friendly staff .
Review 19:Nothing! We had a lovely night away in preparation for Christmas.
Review 20:The lovely log fire in the bar. Good quality bed linen. Excellent resturant with extensive menu at good prices.
Review 21:Downstairs toilet was blocked.
Review 22:We visited a month ago stayed in the same suite n i noticed various bits that needed attention .n they were still outstanding.being a carpenter n builder i noticed the sash windows needed rewieghting.
Review 23:The small cramped bathroom we found difficult. The room could use a refresh of paint and some minor repairs of holes. Very limited parking but found one space just around the corner on the street.
Review 24:Location, staff and food were all excellent. We had both dinner and the breakfast. Showered in the evening very good water pressure and lots of hot water.
Review 25:Cleaning was not up to standard - dusty floors and ceilings and there was still a small amount of wee on the toilet seat. If this was improved I would have thought it was truly good value but this impacted our stay a lot.
Review 26:Great location and great food!
Review 27:The decor was a bit tired. A coat of paint and new upholstery wouldn't go astray. It was disappointing on our 2nd night that they ran out of firewood in the main bar. We went elsewhere to find the Cotswold evening ambiance.
Review 28:The staff were friendly and helpful. The bed was very comfortable.
Review 29:Room was too cramped for us and needed a refurb and good clean. Breakfast wasn't anything special and cups were stuck to table. Not very clean.
Review 30:Comfortable bed
Review 31:The reason I booked this hotel was for the log fire in the evening's. I stayed for 2 nights , on the first night there was no log fire fire and was told they had run out of logs. Next morning I asked at reception if they were going to get more logs and was told they already had loads. That evening the same happened again no log fire and again was told they had run out of logs. Very very dissappointing as the reason I booked was for the fire .
Review 32:Our room was not very clean and it also had a hole in the wall above the door with the concret and plaster lose. Not a good to look at .
Review 33:Location , decor of dinning room ? friendly staff , fab breakfast
Review 34:No lift, bed too high, bathroom door opens straight on to end of bed, lighting inadequate, 'phone broken in room, no replacement shower gel, etc. Good location worthy of upgrade.
Review 35:Location. Staff helpful and friendly, food good value.
Review 36:room 18 very very small, bathroom tiny, you cannot lean over to brush teeth without having door open. Having said that it was quaint and cosy.
Review 37:excellent location just what we wanted, not too far to walk for elderly lady. Staff very nice.
Review 38:Evening meal was not good quality, half the menu was not available and what we ended up with was not as listed on menu. I was not aware our room would be half way down the street, it was run down and tatty and the stairs leading up to the room were extremely dangerous
Review 39:We enjoyed breakfast. Location was good for hotel. Bed was comfortable and clean
Review 40:Decor needs updating
Review 41:All staff were very helpful and polite, food was good. This is an old building built in 1736 so needs some updating but rooms were comfortable and clean. Would stay again
Review 42:Freezing cold room when we arrived as the window had been left open. Uncomfortable bed and pillows, small portion of breakfast that took about half an hour. And enough hot water for one person to shower. Overall dreadful
Review 43:Other than the building itself not a lot
Review 44:Did not know the annex was going to be down the road from the main hotel.we did tell the waiter at breakfast there was no cornflakes, my mum can not eat sugary cereal, but still did not get any for the rest of our stay, i bought our own and took in each morning.
Review 45:Love bourton and the hotel was beside the river, the male staff were friendly, but female staff were less.
Review 46:The room we stayed was v noisey. From roughly 12mn to 8am there were 4 vehicles which came and disturbed our sleep. Bin lorry, and others involving deliveries I guess.( May have been to the bakery opposite as well) Maybe had it been a different night we would have been luckier ! Overall though, a comfortable stay.
Review 47:Very helpful and friendly staff. Great location for wandering round the area. Comfortable bed. Lovely welcoming open fire.
Review 48:Food Pie burnt Chump Mash NO onions Bar No Brandy, No Prosecco Shower door hits sink only opens halfway No filter in sink valuables can fall down waste
Review 49:Location was paramount
Review 50:Rowdy pub opposite but think it was an isolated incidence. Ensuite bathroom very small in the annexe and very tired looking compared to the rest of the room and hotel.
Review 51:The staff were very helpful, cheerful and friendly. Location is very good.
Review 52:Absolutely nothing.
Review 53:The Location was perfect, parked in the car park and everything was walking distance. Our room overlooked the pretty main street and the river - beautiful. Breakfast was varied and delicious as was dinner the previous evening. We will return !
Review 54:The room we were given was appaulling. Very dirty, awful bathroom, cupboard with damp towels blocking up a hole - smelt damp and musty in the room. Bed linen was very smelly - had obviously been stored when damp and smelt disgusting. Staff serving behind the bar in the evening drunk at 6.30pm!
Review 55:Hotel in brilliant location. Breakfast was excellent.
Review 56:Breakfast was disappointing and the en-suite bathroom was in need of some re-decorating.
Review 57:Great location with really friendly staff. The pub as well was lovely
Review 58:Our room (the annexe) should not have been used as a room for paying guests. Fire hazard, hallway smelt of urine, room was damp cold and too small.
Review 59:Great breakfast menu. Staff happy and helpful
Review 60:The beds are really high so struggled to get on and off the bed. The room was very small for the £90 i paid for one night. Also bathroom decor is very old and scruffy.
Review 61:The hotel is in a fantastic location with free residents parking which is very helpful. Lovely food also. staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 62:It's an old building so no. surprise that the floorboards creak, but not good when the room above has a restless occupant! Parking very restricted.
Review 63:Excellent location by side of the river. Staff are friendly. Good evening meals available and excellent breakfast with good service.
Review 64:The tile grouting in the shower was dirty and needed cleaning/replacing.
Review 65:Wonderful staff, made us feel very welcome. Also the food was outstanding.
Review 66:I have never left a bad review before but our room was very dirty roomwith damp and mouldy ceiling.Dirty shower from the last occupants. Noisymotor running most of the night.awfull
Review 67:Nice steak for supper.
Review 68:The hotel and location were beautiful, a real old world feel, free parking at the hotel, and the staff were exceptionally friendly efficient in my opinion excellent. No complaints at all. Would defintely book again.
Review 69:None of the ITV channels worked (missed rugby world cup final) !...Hotel in need of refurbish very run down poorly maintained and dirty (see pics) Mould on windows tiles and woodwork and found phone socket covered in dust YUKKKK!!!
Review 70:Leaving !
Review 71:The hotel completely suited our purpose and was good value for money. The staff were pleasant and breakfast was good. We stayed in the cottage annexe and it is a little tired but the price was suitable.
Review 72:Let me firstly say that the sign here says Under New Management. Hopefully improvements will follow. The whole place seems to need money spent to increase the internal visual effect to the entry foyer, the bar and the dining room. "Old English" whose Hotel Directory I picked up on site might like to give guidance in appropriate improvements. We ate dinner and breakfast in the dining room and both found our meals wanting. There needs to be greater attention to presentation of meals as what we received whilst tasting reasonably good did not look attractive on the plate. More staff training needs to be given, whilst very willing, staff seemed to be a little uncertain of their roles. Our top floor room "in the cottage" whilst being clean and tidy was not the most accessible for a couple well into their sixties. I hope the new management and "Old English" take these comments as being constructive criticism as the Old Manse Hotel needs to stand out amongst its peers
Review 73:Situated in beautiful village.
Review 74:Rooms in anexe tired and poorly decorated. Shower tiles dirty and grubby. The room requires a full clean. Cobwebs and mould in rooms
Review 75:Staff friendly great location
Review 76:Brilliant location in Bourton On The Water, lovely old fashioned building exterior, good bar area. Room was in annex behind main building quite basic but cosy and clean and good value. Very good evening meal and breakfast.
Review 77:Room desperately needs a lick or two of paint and grubby bathroom needs sorting. Not all menu as described
Review 78:Friendly staff, great area and food was good
Review 79:Dirty untidy especially room. Shower bath and bathroom where disgusting leaking shower someone else's hair in bath, I had sent a previous note to you to make sure all was nice as partners birthday she was not happy. I will not go back at all.
Review 80:Breakfast and location
Review 81:I do feel that the food (especially breakfast) could be greatly improved as much of it seemed 'cheap' which doesn't match the hotel itself. I know it's part of old English Inns but I do feel that some use of local produce would be better. My egg at breakfast was undercooked and at dinner the night before the couple next to us had a semi frozen piece of chicken strip/nugget in their combo starter. Real shame as the staff and hotel are great and the food lets it down a bit but is not the staffs' fault.
Review 82:Great location and extremely friendly and helpful staff who were very obliging. Lovely 'old' rooms in a very quaint setting. Regular visitors to the area and the hotel is great when there is an offer on.
Review 83:The bathroom was tiny barely room to have a wash in. We had to pay extra for Cappuccino at breakfast. I have paid the same amount of money for better hotels in central locations.
Review 84:It's location in the centre of Bourton is ideal. Staff were friendly. Parking is available within the hotel- but as stated is limited. But for an overnight stay the on street parking will suffice. Tea and coffee making facilities were good.
Review 85:We were in the Annexe - everywhere was clean but could do with a facelift to make it more welcoming. The bathroom and entrance/stairway, in particular, need prompt attention. In truth, some money needs spending on this lovely old hotel to make it as attractive inside as it is from the road.
Review 86:All staff were very helpful and polite, particularly Kye, Dan and Cristina in the restaurant. The food was good and when we asked for extra bedding this was instantly taken to our room.
Review 87:perfect location loved the view 'staff all very nice always a smile and very helpfull we came to old mans hotel as hubby 60 th birthday and the name fitted the birthday x
Review 88:Bathroom was so small, getting in and out the shower was difficult as the door couldn't open fully due to the sink being in the way
Review 89:Great location & friendly staff
Review 90:the hotel was dated and not very clean for the rating that it had been given
Review 91:the staff where all very nice and help full and the food was good, the location in Burton-on-the water was great.
Review 92:The hotel is tired and needs an upgrade, also the central heating boiler had broken down making most of the rooms on the chilly side.
Review 93:Liked the location and the character, staff very helpful and the breakfasts were excellent.
Review 94:The staff didn't seem to be very good and the food was not as good as it was when we stayed there before .We booked a table for the first night there but there was a problem with the toilets, the receptionist said to us that if there was a problem and the kitchen is still shut, she would let us know and tell us somewhere else to go. When we went for dinner at 19.30 and waited for our table,we were told you will be lucky . This was by the same person who took our booking. We then had problems finding a place to eat.
Review 95:The location and the building, was perfect. We had a lovely time, lovely weather and some lovely walks in the countryside
Review 96:Heating wasn't working which left the suite cold in the evening but staff supplied electric heaters which solved the problem
Review 97:Location was excellent lovely breakfast pleasant helpful staff
Review 98:Everything, the floorboards creaked like mad,the maid left out room open all day the heating didn't work ,the carpets were filthy with stains on them holes in the wall in bedroom and bathroom stains to the ceiling in bathroom.....
Review 99:Nothing,when we booked it up,thought we were in a fourposter bed in a luxury suite,we werent. Staff foreign and rude, breakfast terrible cold,no mushrooms, one of everything toast came out at end when I had complained that mine was cold,so they nuked it in the microwave. We went down to breakfast at 9.10am there were only another couple and a group of four men who had just eaten.so not busy. We had to wait nearly 40 mins for a cold lack lustre breakfast....then got coffee, which was barely warm then asked for a refill to which the waitress said OK,then she cleaned down tables,I had to go and get some from kitchen myself.....we did not go down for breakfast the day after as it was so bad.
Review 100:All good
Review 101:in the centre of a very picturesque village. Bar/Restaurant attached with good food. Very nice breakfast and quiet room in detached renovated building. secure parking.
Review 102:The staff were unattentive, and unfriendly! The rooms were not clean and breakfast was a joke! Horrible service and forgetful waiters and kitchen staff! We will return to Bourton-on-the-water, however we will definitely not stay here again.
Review 103:The location was perfect
Review 104:The bedroom was quite small and the bathroom was tiny, really not enough space to dry yourself after showering. No bath, which we would have needed had we stayed for longer as our daughter would have needed one. The place had been given a lick of paint but was a little sad and in need of a makeover.
Review 105:Right in the heart of Bourton on the water, beautiful location. Very nice facilities downstairs, welcoming concierge.
Review 106:The room was tiny and outdated and the bed was very uncomfortable with a lumpy unsupportive mattress.
Review 107:The location! Staff also very friendly and helpful.
Review 108:Very ordinary breakfast buffet. Truly dreadful coffee. Damp smelling ugly bathroom. No soundproofing between my suite and the next. A normal conversation in the next room was audible to me in bed despite my wearing earplugs. Zero WI-FI in breakfast room where I needed to review morning messages and prepare for my day.
Review 109:Pleasant, helpful staff. Comfortable bed. Thoughtful amenities in room.
Review 110:Yes, I love Bourton on the Water and have stayed a few years ago at themanse hotel - we had quite a nice room then, although we did think thewhole hotel is so run down - but we enjoyed the visit. We went againthis August - Anniversary break. The room was a standard double, dreadful, dark, uninviting, not clean and in great need of updating. Thetiny ensuite shower room was old and dirty. I did complain and was toldby the new manager that they will be refurbishing but it will take time.I explained that it was expensive for what we got. Also they cleaned thelobby whilst we were eating breakfast, not good. Our towels were notchanged by 4 one day, so we again had to ask for a tidy up and change oftowels. All in all will not unfortunately been staying at the manseagain until they have smartened up. All reception desk untidy, the barwas basic and needed a clean. Staff share duties, hence not enoughstaff, had to wait 10 mins to get checked in.
Review 111:The Manager refunded us 50% of our total stay. The least he could do, hewas actually very nice and apologetic
Review 112:The fact our shower in our room was leaking and carpet was wet beside the bed so the whole room was damp. Could smell it as soon as you opened door and bed was clean but could smell cigarette smoke from the sheets. We cancelled our second night told them why but did not seem concerned.
Review 113:Location
Review 114:The attitude of some of the waiting staff. The creaking floor boards above us in the night. Breakfast service very slow but friendly. Vegetarian choice on your menus. Our friends in room 10 said the shower was very small and room 2 smelt of damp. The bedding had an odd smell.
Review 115:Position of the hotel, we were lucky and got parked in the car park. Our friends didn't ! The position of our room, over looking the river.
Review 116:No toiletries in bathroom, whole place needs refurbishing especially needs a lick of paint, creaky floorboards. Breakfast very poor, half cooked sausage, only one blackened mushroom, half hard cooked?tomato, and the scrambled egg was slimy and greasy. All of it lukewarm!
Review 117:Location very good, very central. Lovely looking building, comfortable beds, hot water.
Review 118:Maybe just due to wear and tear and the age of the property but the bathroom seemed a little dirty. Could have done with an extra wipe around taps! Mirror had finger print stains on!
Review 119:Staff were very friendly! Breakfast lovely! Location fantastic!
Review 120:The car parking is insufficient, the hotel is very dirty. I found a tube of lube next to the bed. The rubbish bin in the bathroom was putrid, the floor was very dirty, and the meal was sub par
Review 121:The location is excellent
Review 122:The exhaust fan was on all night and we couldn't sleep, the meals were just average. We were not compensated for lack of sleep from the kitchen exhaust fan, very disappointing.
Review 123:the location was excellent and the external look of the building was excellent
Review 124:Internet access in the whole area is very poor but in the grand scheme of things a small irritation only
Review 125:All apart from internet connection was spot on will definitely recommend to others
Review 126:The accommodation was rather tired - and in need of refurbishment. Noisy late in the evening after closing time. Full English Breakfast was disappointing due to the basic quality of ingredients.
Review 127:Good central location, but more like a pub, with rooms rather than a hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. Live music in the bar on the Friday night was a nice bonus.
Review 128:Parking is a bit hit and miss at the hotel. It is very small. Luckily we parked by the shops which had spaces from 5pm to 11am each day.
Review 129:It is in a very good location. Besides having breakfast we also had a couple of evening meals during our stay which we thought were excellent..
Review 130:Dirty, cobwebs everywhere, clean bathroom with regard to shower, toilet etc, but bathroom walls and floor were ancient and covered in years of water splashes also had missing window pane in bathroom. Restaurant was dirty with a sticky feel to everything touched and the food was under cooked. Bedroom had cobwebs all over and clearly hadn't been refurbished for years.
Review 131:Good location in the centre of the village
Review 132:There is limited space in the car park but when we mentioned it to the staff, the manager himself personally moved his car so we could park our.
Review 133:The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The service we received was second to none. The food was device with a varied selection (definitely recommend the carrot and coriander soup). We stayed in the superior suite and the view was lovely. We could get a good view of the town and it was overlooking the water. The evening entertainment was really good and the bar staff were lovely. Would definitely recommend this hotel for couples or families sue to the friendliness of the staff and the location of the hotel.
Review 134:the shower went cold within seconds, the fan in the toilet is to noisy and does not turn off for ten minutes.the toilet seat moves. the toilet roll holder falls off the wall the bedroom needs painting.
Review 135:the breakfast was alright.
Review 136:the hotel is very tired, our dressing table was held together with sticky tape. the bathroom was very very small (we are not large people!). the towels were put on the floor of the corridor awaiting room service, the carpet was dirty! at breakfast our coffee was served as a cup of hot water with a sachet of coffee, because we asked for decaff.
Review 137:the location, parking facility
Review 138:Hotel needs a bit of a refurbishment. Guests need to be able to access the small residents lounge - for when the weather is bad.
Review 139:Very helpful and friendly staff. Perfect location especially if the weather is good. Food was good value and good quality.
Review 140:bathroom was way too small we had to wash with door open and not very clean, beam beside head when in bed. We have stayed with you before last year in room 17 which was excellent. Evening menu not that good
Review 141:that you could watch tv without loosing picture, nice bar and good breakfast menue..
Review 142:We were placed in the old manse cottage. It was shabby and smelt of damp. The room had very restricted head room and the bath room was grotty. The main hotel was grubby and disorganised
Review 143:Location on the high street is convenient. The beds were comfortable
Review 144:The Manse is "tired"and needs a complete refit. The room we had selected "the Cottage" was more suited to midgets than normal size people. The Manse is unclean throughout except perhaps for the room we occupied and needs repainting and repair in all the public areas. The bathroom of our room needed tile re-grouting or cleaning. All the things we found to be wrong blame should be laid at the owners of the property and not the staff who are trying so hard with n seemingly no assistance. To offer such low standards in a small village with many choices is suicide.Booking .com should perhaps consider removing The Manse and substituting one of the many other properties available. Very Disappointed!! Regards Peter
Review 145:Location and staff were good.
The Fine Print
