Reviews for The Oak Lodge

Review 1:The first greeting was abysmal. The person on reception(I think it was the owner), did not seem to know what he was doing. Could not find the booking, but did eventually. Gave me a highlighter pen to fill in the registration form, which he had some time finding. The room was filthy, cobwebs everywhere. The bed was so small we had a job to fit in, having said that you would not be able to fit a larger one in the room. The shower would not turn down, the water was so hot we could not use the shower. The bathroom was too small for the sink, therefore this was in the main room and was so small you could not use it without splashing water out of it. The bath towels were grey.Tea and coffee facilities were provided, however these must have been stored next to some cleaning or washing supplies as they all tasted of perfume and tasted disgusting, which of course we did not discover until the morning. So no nice cup of tea, which was disappointing because I had taken the trouble to bring my own milk. So all in all, we were not at all happy with our stay and will definitely not be visiting this hotel again. Which is a shame, because we stayed there some 3 or 4 years previous and had a lovely stay and a meal in the restaurant, which is no longer a facility of the hotel.

Review 2:It was close to were my son lives with his family. The purpose of our visit was to visit my son and grandchildren. They have no room for visitors to stay.

Review 3:Bathroom had bad smell from sewer/drains. Did not get the room requested and promised per conversation prior to arrival with owner's father. Rooms were not as shown on your website. Had stayed here in 2005 & the place had changed to the detriment of the facility. Only stayed one night and relocated to Royal Chase which was the same price and highly superior to this. Staff at Oak Lodge facility not qualified to deal with our issues other than to give us air freshners to combat sewage smell in room. Would not advise going to this facility - supposedly current owners there for 4 weeks only BUT this is NOT the place this used to be has been turned into all bedrooms and not other facilities. Room we had was on ground floor, at front - very noisy due to other guests entering the establishment and noise from the street - since it is on a busy road.

Review 4:Shower bracket broke but was repaired next day. Then could not regulate temperature of shower. No decaf beverages. Just over 2miles from Chase Farm Hospital.

Review 5:wifi included, en suite.

Review 6:Tiny room, no room to manoeuvre at all, not the cleanest of rooms, holes in pillowcases, dirty tiny bathroom with leaking toilet. Draught coming through gap in outside door. Hardly any tea or coffee & certainly no biscuits. Very noisy with people coming and going, keys jangling, male cleaner just walked in without knocking and when we told him to leave our room alone he said he would probably have a look in later so we had to repeat ourselves. Should have reported this really as was unacceptable. We felt like we were staying in a hostel. Sorry.

Review 7:The owner was lovely and extremely helpful and probably the only reason that we stayed to be honest, cannot fault her at all. Went out of her way to accommodate so apologies for the poor review.

Review 8:Everytime anyone in the whole building flushed the toilet, it was as if an earthquake happened. Noisy road.

Review 9:Suited our purpose. Near to where we needed to be and lowest cost option.

Review 10:Minor niggles only (eg shower was stuck on scalding hot when I arrived, bin not emptied and tea/milk not replaced the first night, clean towel provided but damp ones in the shower not removed on another night), but these issues were all dealt with quickly and with no fuss by the staff when i reported them.

Review 11:The room was clean, compact but fine for one person and good for the budget price. The location was good, ten minutes walk to the station. Parking on the street was plentiful.

Review 12:very friendly and helpful staff, large bed for a single room, amazing breakfast down the road at 5 min walking distance, overall great value for money

Review 13:The bed was a really small double as was the room. The bathroom was just big enough for one person and the shower wasn't 100%. The tv was in a good position but it was just to small for the distance it was away from you. The towels were ripped on the edges and had black marks on them.

Review 14:I liked the fact that we did have our own bathroom and didn't have to share with anyone. As the hotel was on a semi quite road I felt that my car was safe parked on the road.

Review 15:Being asked to pay in cash on arrival as card machine not working, having to wait to be let in despite there being staff on the premises. Private bathroom advertised as being across from room - in fact on the other side of a stairwell landing - not funny when having to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night - especially when lights turned out. Bed REALLY uncomfortable. Room really really small

Review 16:responsive to requests, room while tiny had tea and coffee making facilities and a TV -

Review 17:We had room 14 which is in need of a refurbishment the bathroom especially is very old and moldy. The room was ok and clean but you couldn't move around the bed which was a small double.

Review 18:Enfield is a nice small town with good links into London the tube station is a good 20 min walk or there is a bus stop across the road. You can park outside the hotel.

Review 19:The water for the shower was only warm and not hot. There was a notice saying the toilet gets blocked and it did. As they know about the problem they should sort out the plumbing and not put a sign up which in effect meant toilet virtually unusable.

Review 20:Clean quiet room with toilet and shower en suite. Comfortable bed and tv.

Review 21:We got there at 2:40p and it was like the man at the desk made us feel he was doing us a favor by letting us check in 20 minutes early. The bathroom was a step down with a loose sliding door that afforded no privacy. There was carpet in the bathroom that was horribly stained. The bathroom window glass was broken and the lighting was poor.

Review 22:It was convenient to our friend's residence. The beds and sleeping area was nice.

Review 23:not a bad experience as such but a bit cramped in room but considering the cheap price quite acceptable

Review 24:Friendly and relaxed atmosphere helpful reception attendant.

Review 25:Rooms are ridiculously tiny, about 9sqm (bath room included)! Sink (size of two palms of a hand) is in the general room - not in the bath room. No wardrobe or dresser (it wouldn't fit). People in the neighbour house were quite noisy

Review 26:Nice location, easy to park, friendly staff

Review 27:Apalling organisation ,i arrived to be told that i was not booked in ,this at 8.30 Friday night i spent the next hour trying to find alternative accommodation.with no help from the staff. They admitted their mistake, and i was allowed in at 9.30 The room was very small.the shower did not drain ,so the shower tray had stagnant water which stank. The cleaners were knocking at 9.50 to enforce our departure. Didnt expect much for the money was not dissapointed

Review 28:We were in room five and it was very small.I think the bed was not a double size and the vanity sink was barely big enough to put your hands in.We did not have the breakfast we thought £7.50 for continental was rather expensive.

Review 29:It was near to where our son lives and it was quiet.

Review 30:The room didn't have a wardrobe. The sink was too small. The bathroom was outside the room.

Review 31:The location was great, it was good value for money and the staff were extremely helpful!

Review 32:Very small shower room. Toilet seat broken and unstable. On second day, I did not get towels, luckily I did find linen/towel on my floor. Mattress very thin, the tiniest wash basin I ever saw. Major refurbishment needed.

Review 33:It was clean.

Review 34:Friendly staff. Combination of room and price exactly what I was looking for. I've stayed in other accommodation locally, which was more expensive, and not as comfortable.

Review 35:No Full English Breakfast. However John told me there was a cafe about 500 yds from hotel at around £3.95 full English.

Review 36:John was absolutely smashing. Lovely room and so comfortable.

Review 37:Toilet seat not fixed, slipping and sliding. smell coming from loose trap door under bath mat, from water tank. unfortunately hairs in bed. Bathroom door hitting bed.

Review 38:Staff on arrival, very nice and helpful.

Review 39:Staff said was full, but booked on Bookings.com anyway, though £5 more, which was annoying. Bathroom was in a cupboard (literally - so smallest basin in the world in bedroom as no room in bathroom) foam filler and broken tiles round leaky shower enclosure that had a curtain instead of original door. Didn't take breakfast as £7.5 to be served in 3/4 size double bed with worn to be see-through sheets was not attractive idea (and worn out towels as well). Not impressed overall.

Review 40:location, friendly staff, easy parking - though on main road.

Review 41:check out by 10.00 you sure,i was told not strict on this,6 minites past ten knocking on the saying i had to vacate room.Faced garden ground floor where people go to smoke, hot day window open nice,no room to swing a cat, shower no good, wifi went off at 2300 nice touch! not.

Review 42:leaving

Review 43:For this price it would have been nice if breakfast was also included.

Review 44:The staff were extremely friendly and understanding. Because of the tube strike I was stuck between Euston and Liverpool Street for hours and the owner of the hotel still waited for me and offered me nice hot chocolate.

Review 45:Very small room. Very tiny basin outside bathroom. No loo roll holder and had to ask for loo roll. Two people in the room were too cramped to even get changed in small space provided - very poor

Review 46:Friendly welcome

Review 47:Shower hose leaked, toilet flush broken and shelf above basin in poor state of repair. Had to ask for a hairdryer, needs to be one in the room.

Review 48:Clean and comfortable. Price.

Review 49:No room to swing a cat, let alone place your luggage. Bathroom tiny and only sink in the bedroom. Shower was too hot and could not control the temperature. Noisy cleaners and smoking outside our bedroom window.

Review 50:Great value for money for a short stay. Bed was very comfortable and the room was spotless as long as you don't spend too long inside the room. Good for a good night sleep, that's about it!

Review 51:There was many bug in the room which keep coming in. The hot water was really hot and we wasn't explain how to use it.

Review 52:The room was nice and cosy and spacious and the en suit was big enough. Also there garden was big and nice to sit in the weather.

Review 53:The whole experience was lovely, the only thing I would change would be to update the shower tray as it was a little stained.

Review 54:Such a lovely little room perfect for me. Was fresh and airy loved the little flower box on the window ledge. A hairdryer and heater were already provided in the room. Along with plenty of towels and shower gels. Would definitely visit again. The manager was extremely helpful and showed a genuine interest. Keep up the good work.

Review 55:If this Guest House want to be more boutique than the shower and other accessories such as towels could be better.

Review 56:I liked the area around the guest house and that it was clean. It was nice and relaxed and it was nice to have a garden to be able to sit in.

Review 57:Nothing I didn't like, but I got caught out with the local (only very close) restaurant which was full up on a Saturday night, there are other options 20 mins walk away - no problem if you are in a car, which I wasn't.

Review 58:Convenience, price and welcome.

Review 59:My partner and I stayed at Oak Lodge whilst visiting family over the weekend. We were dismayed to find that we were given what was clearly a single room with a disabled friendly wet/shower room. Whilst the bathroom was not a huge issue, the fact the the room in general was unclean. It was dusty behind the drawer units and the floor. The bed sheets and pillows were heavily stained and had hairs present on the pillows. There was no central heating, only a small fan heater. We went straight to the manager and told him. He came and inspected the room and instantly gave us another room instead. The second room was much more acceptable. Overall this property needs updating and better maintenance. Not worth the £80 a night charge. Glad I onlh paid £64 but would have rather stayed at a Travelodge or premier inn for the same price.

Review 60:The manager John was very friendly and helpful.

Review 61:Clean, comfortable and relaxing. Was a little nervy after reading some previous reviews but was pleasantly surprised. Room was comfy, a little snug but had everything we needed. Owner very helpful. Would def stay again.

Review 62:Wifi lacked a little bit but everything else was good

Review 63:The owner was very nice and polite, it had clean facilities, also had a nice garden next to my room which was good as I am a smoker

Review 64:Nothing to get too excited about...perhaps the rooms could do with some tlc and finishing touches

Review 65:The room was warm, bed comfy. staff very helpful and friendly . plenty tea and coffee available. You get what you pay for isn't the Ritz but didn't expect that at £75 per night for two people. We were out all day visiting family only needed room to sleep in.

Review 66:Avacado green cracked bathroom suite with only a shower attachment over corner bath. Dirty stained bathroom carpet. Very loose toilet seat.

Review 67:Beds were clean and comfy. Flatscreen Tv Tea & Coffee in room. Radiators kept room nice & warm.

Review 68:The shower head fell off and no attempt at fixing the problem was carried out. The light fitting looked as if I touched it the whole thing would fall down.the push button on the toilet was broken.ensuite was grubby, wouldn't go back

Review 69:Location was good for me and off road parking worked for my vehicle.

Review 70:The room has a separate bathroom which was expected but the shower area is very small.

Review 71:Staff informative and efficient. Very clean room well appointed.

Review 72:Room was small and ensuite bathroom was poor, probably wouldn't stay there again! Quite expensive for what you get.

Review 73:The oak lodge is not in a bad location and the room was adequate.

Review 74:Only thing perhaps was room lot smaller than expected but wasn't really a problem in the end and we were woken up at 6.20 by people either coming in or leaving but suppose you have to expect a certain amount of that. We ourselves tried not to make too much noise when got back but is difficult.

Review 75:Our reception was excellent. Had phoned before to see if could check in earlier if possible than the stated 3.00pm as we were travelling from Suffolk for family wedding at 4.00pm. We did not want to have to travel in our wedding clothes and had taxi booked for 3.20pm. We were told this would be fine. Must admit we were earlier than expected as no hold ups on road but were welcomed and allowed in room. Excellent tea and coffee facilities which much appreciated. Very clean and very comfortable bed.

Review 76:Room very small for double bed - o.k. for a night or two but very wearing after a while. Shower very small and difficult to use. Location a bit out of the way (long walk or a bus ride to shops, restaurants and stations).

Review 77:Free Parking, Free Wifi, Comfy Bed, Friendly Staff, Very Clean, Decent Price.

Review 78:There was nothing that I could say was bad about this hotel it was just lovely

Review 79:At first site the hotel looked lovely, then you walked in and were greeted with a smile, the people were very polite and happy to help, the place inside was so pretty very homely, and the room was so comfortable abit small but that didn't matter me and my boyfriend went for the night just to get away and we loved it so much so that when we left the next morning we booked to stay again for my birthday I would highly recommend this hotel to couples or singles in need of a quiet time away, thank you so much to the staff you made it that much more comfortable and I can't wait to come and stay again

Review 80:Could not make tv work but admittedly did not seek for help.

Review 81:Efficient and welcoming attitude of staff at reception. Plenty of supplies for tea and coffee making. Quiet building. Comfortable bed. Door key for coming n going easily.

Review 82:Room very small and over front door so noise of door closing beneath. Main problem was some of the heating/ hot water kit for building located in a boxed area within the room which generated enormous amount of non-stop heat. To cool down meant opening the window and suffering road noise. Bathroom described as just over the corridor but was really down and up two flights of stairs in view of the main entrance, was very small and difficult to move around in.

Review 83:Location Staff were welcoming All equipment worked Bus stop into Enfield over road Free parking at front

Review 84:Rooms very small, shower in our room impossible to use,the shower head was anchored in the corner & you couldn't take the shower head out of the cradle to rinse off soap.

Review 85:It was convenient for the location of the funeral service,& the owner was very nice & helpful, the place was very clean, there was tea & coffee making facilities.

Review 86:Friendliness of the staff, and the way they worked hard to make me feel comfortable. Breakfast was tailor made and delivered to my room - brilliant. The hotel building is lovely, with a garden to sit in.

Review 87:Room size, shower very tiny, towels too small, shower spray poor, parking space tiny & inconvenient, difficult to get in or out. Having to park on the street.

Review 90:Room was very clean and comfortable. Reception staff very friendly and helpful

Review 91:Very small room and small bed our room backed on to garden where other guests smoked and we could smell the smoke

Review 92:Close to where wd needed to be and quite reasonable although no breakfast in included

Review 93:Room was 'bijou' to put it politely. Shower room ventilator not working. No toilet seat cover;seat loose. Wash basin too small to be functional and light not working. No blind on skylight. View of a brick wall two feet from window. Kitchen noises.

Review 94:Proprietor was welcoming. Linen and bed were clean. Generous supply of coffee and tea.

Review 95:Noise ,room above kept us awake until 2am.We couldn't complain that night as there was no one to complain to. Only stayed 1 night but charged for 5 nights which was booked. Small room terrible bed
