Reviews for Port William Inn

Review 1:The staff were really friendly and attentive, the food was delicious, and the general ambience of the place was warm and inviting! Perfect for a pre Christmas getaway.

Review 2:2 lamps in the the room were broken - one on the corner of the bed and one that straight after the door. Food downstairs is so-so.

Review 3:Location is perfect!! When I woke up in the morning facing the ocean it was smth! Breakfast was ok - I took the Cornwall Breakfast that I never tried before and it was nice. Tea/coffee table and biscuits :)

Review 4:The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and well equiped. If anything the room was very small. Nevertheless clean and with everything we would need We appreciate that there is nothing that can be done to a very old property were rooms were small when it was built!!! The atmosphere in the tavern was great with wood fires and the food was excellent. Would go back again and again if only for the food.

Review 5:Amazing location and friendly staff! Perched on a cliff at the point at which river meets ocean, with a wild coastline and a breathtaking walk to King Arthur's Castle (ruin), this place is a great escape for a short break!

Review 6:fantastic to be able to take our two dogs and 2 kittens. The staff were excellent- friendly and helpful, and food was of a very high standard. We have visited often for lunch whilst on holiday locally having walked the coastal path, and our Christmas break didn't disappoint.

Review 7:I had to struggle up the stairs with 2 suitcases. The young boy showing us to our room didn't offer to help - at all. The car parking is a disaster. Its up a very steep hill and the spaces which are marked out with metal posts and chains are very tight for a big car.

Review 8:Fantastic views out of the window.

Review 9:As always, very friendly and attentive staff, great food beautifully presented (and chips to die for!). Our room was clean, comfortable and well equipped and while it didn't have the greatest view of the sea (we booked the last double room), you could certainly while away the time sitting in the window looking out over the strand. We'll definitely be staying there again and are both looking forward to some more of their hospitality.

Review 10:Never experienced a shower that I couldn't figure out but this one beat me. The bedding doesn't match the beauty & wonderful staff, advise owners to invest in quality bedding. The restaurant food & service was outstanding.

Review 11:Ocean side location & views are outstanding.

Review 12:Advertised with 1/2 mile sandy beach, never saw it as nonexistent when tide in.Part of St Austell brewer chain.

Review 13:Good spot on Cornwall rugged north coast. 2.25 walking miles (1+ hr) to Tintagel.

Review 14:Parking is not easy as there has been coastal erosion and the residents bays are tight and on a steep slope. Room was small and other than the bed only 1 chair to sit in. There was only seating in the pub, no lounge area so small room meant the only place to relax was on the bed.

Review 15:Staff were friendly and helpfull. We we're checked in efficiently and shown to our room. The room was small but had everything we needed. Soap, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel were all provided. There was a well stocked tray of tea, coffee and biscuits that was refilled each day. The veiw from the room was wonderful as we could see the beach. Breakfast was lovely. Cooked fresh to order and we were able to change items on the menu. There was also cereal and toast, fresh fruit and drinks on a help yourself table. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and can highly recommend it. The real ales were great too.

Review 16:Travelling with a one year old we were slightly apprehensive, but the staff couldn't have been more helpful or accommodating. A wonderful short break - fantastic views, food and atmosphere.

Review 17:The food menu would benefit from healthier options and the served piping hot Hygiene and cleanliness, little off putting see the cleaners cleaning with dirty buckets and mops on the way to breakfast The room was rather small and therefore the view from the window rather disrupted.

Review 18:Location and friendliness of staff

Review 19:The parking for residents is a little precarious. The evening food service was a bit too informal. Although you order at the bar we felt no real effort was put into the service including offering dessert menus or coffee.

Review 20:The food was very nice especially the breakfast. The views from the property are particularly spectacular. They were very accommodating for our little dog.

Review 21:Parking the car was very tight for a large car . And No Lounge for residents ,straight into the bar from your room .

Review 22:View ,Comfortble beds ,good Food and drink . The hosts were friendly .

Review 23:Following rock fall, car parking spaces are limited but the stupidity of partitioning spaces by means of chains at knee height only creates potential hazards for guests. Greatly reduced menu choice was another disappointment. Have been visiting for 20 years but future visits in doubt.

Review 24:Situation & sunsets.

Review 25:room 5 . Tepid bathwater. Was told it was a known problem. Wasn't told main door locked at night so only exit was a fire escape. lucky the dog didn't need the toilet!

Review 26:Great food. Comfortable room.Good view.

Review 27:Nothing at all to complain about. We had a great few days here.

Review 28:Absolutely perfect. Staff were so friendly. The room was very spacious and had a great view. Food was also fab and service was spot on!

Review 29:The staff was so very friendly and helpful. We loved the location overlooking the beautiful coast line - absolutely georgeous! I would definitely come back to stay again!

Review 30:This Inn is in a fantastic location - The staff were very friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. The food was lovely and was served very quickly considering home busy it was. A Great stay!

Review 31:the lack of a change of menu.the specials never changed. hot food at night half hot half cold. one night we told them to take the food back. on our 1st night had somebody else meals and drinks put on our tab, thankfully i noticed this and spoke to Anthony the next day and he sorted it out. So keep a close eye on your tab.Parking is a bit of a nightmare.

Review 32:comfort of the room

Review 33:Room very small. Menu lacking in fresh produce, chips with everything! Would benefit from a child free zone in the evening .

Review 34:amazing sea views, fresh crab and cod good ,would have liked to see more local fresh fish.GOOD Location

Review 35:Our bed (room #5) was absolutely uncomfortable. We couldn't sleep all night! Also we didn't like waiting for a long time our breakfast.

Review 36:Amazing view from all rooms.

Review 37:Nothing!

Review 38:Lovely big en-suite room, excellent food in the evening and also an excellent breakfast. All the staff were great and helpful. Beautiful location too. Both of us and the dog were very happy!

Review 39:The restaurant was a disappointment, for somewhere with fabulous views of the sea there was hardly any fish included on the menu, and my steak which I had requested rare arrived blue. Having said that I spoke with the manager and he resolved the issue immediately.

Review 40:Location is fantastic, and staff very friendly. The room was smaller than I expected but the bed and bathroom were perfectly adequate and comfortable.

Review 41:Comfortable spotlessly clean room, great location overlooking the bay, fantastic staff - who helped clean/dress my cut arm after a fall on the beach rocks. Thanks guys!

Review 42:Break fast starts at 8.30 which is late for us as we are early risers and would have liked to have been able to depart earlier.

Review 43:The location is great with good views of the coast. The local beer is very good.

Review 44:For an establishment that advertises that it doesn't do fast food it's odd that half of the main menu was burgers and everything except the ploughman's lunch came with chips. That's of course if whatever you asked for was still on the menu by 7:30 half of the menu including specials were off. There was an interesting special item that didn't sell out Fish Finger sandwiches. Breakfast is another experience. The fry is floating in grease and the scrambled eggs are straight from 5 mins on high in the microwave

Review 45:Location was excellent. Staff were generally cheerful and attentive

Review 46:Breakfast was luke warm both mornings, however great veggie options! Room was lovely but beginning to look a bit tired, especially the bathroom.

Review 47:Location is great, nice atmosphere, good menu - we ate both evenings and thoroughly enjoyed the food!

Review 48:Small room not much bigger than the bed. Tired decor, especially bathroom. Strong shake'n'vac smell. Seriously overpriced. Probably almost double what I would expect to pay. Expected much much more from the description

Review 49:location is good, management friendly

Review 50:We were a bit disappointed by the lack of choice on the dinner menu - they appeared to have run out of a lot of items.

Review 51:We loved the location and the friendliness of the hotel. Staff were willing to help book taxis and gave us fresh milk for tea on arrival.

Review 52:Charged for an extra night in error, but this was rapidly refunded, without any bother.

Review 53:Position was excellent. All the staff were very friendly. Good local beer.

Review 54:The views are breath taking and the location is just perfect if you love looking out on to the sea. Everyone was so friendly, the food was lovely in particular breakfast. The fish tank was a brilliant little feature.

Review 55:The menu could have a few more options that did not include chips ie pasta and rice. Hotel clients should be given priority with dinner reservations and table allocations. Because of the unfortunate shortage of parking something should done to allow hotel clients priority with the parking situation. We had a room at the end of a corridor above the kitchen and a door to the outside opposit our room, this proved to be quiet noisy sometimes late at night. The staff acted quickly when we mentioned a very noisy extractor fan right outside the window, ensuring it was turned off as soon as possible after the kitchen closed.

Review 56:Friendly helpful staff, stunning sunsets, problems sorted quickly and without fuss. Although a little expensive the food was lovely.

Review 57:Shower head needs mending in Room 6!

Review 58:I stay in hotels up to five nights a week all over the country and the welcome received here was the best I have experienced. The staff are excellent and nothing is too much trouble. Food good and excellent hand pulled beer.

Review 59:Walls seemed a little thin at night, we could hear people chatting in the next room. It seems staff live above as we were woken by loud heavy footsteps each night. There also seemed to be a door in the bar area that banged in a breeze at night too. All these did affect our sleep a little.

Review 60:The location is superb with a great beach in a cove and an island out to sea. Great cliff top walks with Tintagel in an easy hour walk. Wifi is great, I even had connection on the opposite side of the cove on the cliffs! Staff were excellent, could not fault anyone. Food was great especially the fish and the breakfast. Great real ales from St Austell brewery although no guest beer.

Review 61:No WiFi signal (Actually suited us on this occasion).

Review 62:The food was excellent, trying several menu choices, it never failed to amaze us. The staff where very helpful with everything and the room was cleaned to a very high standard. Highly recommended!!!!

Review 63:No phone signal or wifi (believe wifi will be available at some point) Small room

Review 64:bedroom was practically on the beach, great location. Helpful friendly staff Nice bar area and great reasonably priced food Breakfast was really nicely cooked

Review 65:Being called 'guys' by the staff! Not informed that beach can be difficult to access Rubbish wine standard at the bar

Review 66:The sea on the doorstep! Able to take dogs.

Review 67:Room very small and VERY hot even with window open all night . Dont have winter warmer off menu very bad and over priced .

Review 68:Location and well equiped room friendly staff fab breakfast

Review 69:Everyone there are so friendly, and very helpful. Even when there was a power cut which was completely out of there control they were very apologetic and couldn't do enough for us. can not recommend it enough.

Review 70:The inn was in a elevated position in the cove and the views were sensational. We had stormy seas which were very impressive. The food, atmosphere and friendly welcome were perfect. There was a good choice of food and alcohol and the breakfast were hot and plentiful

Review 71:The food was very bad and the plumbing was very odd!! The whole room was heated by the toilet bowl which seemed to be full of hot water all night!!

Review 72:The venu had a view to die for the building and staff were great.

Review 73:The new managers were amazing, Thanks to Mike :-). The staff were so very pleasant and warming. so very happy, with service and experience, I have booked to go back again in March for a surprise for my hubby birthday.

Review 74:Very poor quality breakfast. Obviously cooked a while before served. Scrambled egg had a crust on and more like an omlette than light and fluffy scrambled egg.Menu poor only one vegetarian dish available. Food good quality but ruined by the chef. No cold water running threw taps in the bathroom. Ordered 2 drinks that were served warm. Told after we got them that the fridge was broke. Bar man should have said before we ordered. Very disappointed with the whole stay. No atmosphere. Stayed here for the last 3 years and had wonderful time but after this we won't be staying again unless things changed drastically. Real shame as this is the ideal pub for that altimste getaway. Sorry but never again.

Review 75:The location and room excellent

Review 76:Shower was difficult to control temperature. This was our only concern x

Review 77:Loved the location. Arrived really late and this wasn't an issue! Our pooches can come back with us next time. Breakfast lovely. All round great experience x

Review 78:A really great location. The rooms are small but extremely well thought out with a lovely comfortable bed. The staff were all lovley and the breakfast very good. Good meal options in the evning too. Very good value for money.

Review 79:Problems with shower and temperature regulation of water. Cold tap provided warm water!

Review 80:Location,staff,cleanliness and decor, welcoming relaxed atmosphere.

Review 81:might struggle with parking in the summer, very narrow lanes.

Review 82:old fishermans cottage with loads of charm, friendly and helpful staff. Good food and a wide choose.

Review 83:Rubbish breakfast , frozen sausages which so say where butcher/farm sausages, button mushrooms where poor as they where so say field . Presentation of breakfast was rubbish !

Review 84:Location

Review 85:I was sad to see that the 'Surfer's Lunch' is no longer on the bar menu.

Review 86:The outlook from the bedroom window was stunning and being able to wake up and watch the waves pounding up Trebarwith Strand was truly memorable. The vegetarian breakfast was very good and set us up well for the day ahead. We will definitely be back!

Review 87:The only downside for us was the room was too hot and with the blustery weather we couldnt have the window open for the noise of the wind and sea. We still enjoyed our holiday and would recommend this hotel

Review 88:Location Room and decor Food Pets made welcome Would definately stay there again

Review 89:loved the whole experience!

Review 90:The location is unbeatable. The views are spectacular! The staff was very helpful and pleasant. The Inn's food was very good.

Review 91:Food not all good. One meal was pretty in edible - staff were very apologetic and offered another meal and a free drink. However I still got charged for my meal. Door handles need a good clean and polish and carpet in corridors and stairs dirty.

Review 92:Location beautiful, staff friendly and helpful. Room very comfortable and clean. Ensuite very clean.

Review 93:We had confusion over they payment- we thought we had paid when we booked online but it was only a reservation. Wasn't very clear.

Review 94:Loved the location and the rooms were really nice. Beach is amazing.

Review 95:you had to order food and drinks from the bar but being a popular place it was all ways crowded it all ways seems under staff at times only 1 person serving but saying that once you ordered the meals were served up

Review 96:the total hotel was ok the staff where help full and the location was the best

Review 97:the Tv in the room only got 4 channels & they were a bit suspect, checkout seemed early maybe another half hour would have been good

Review 98:the views ,the room, the peace & quiet, the food,

Review 99:No mobile phone facility only had three grainy TV channels. Food could of been hotter

Review 100:Location,sea view from our bedroom, clean, friendly staff comfortable, great walks

Review 101:The food was appalling-we have been using Port William for 12 years 9of them as locals and it was reknowned for its food but now it is really poor -boring menu ,food badly cooked and some things on menu tasteless. How can you do a bad cooked breakfast ?-I asked for well done bacon -it came nearly raw ,with 2searmarks on it,tomatoes cold and uncooked and the sauté potatoes were re heated boiled potatoes -hadn't seen any oil! The next day I had scrambled eggs which were taste, ess watery and rubbery -inedible?Its a tragedy because all my local friends are boycotting PortWilliam and it will lose its winter trade.

Review 102:Every thing except the food

Review 103:too many dogs allowed in the eating areas. breakfast and evening meals we were surrounded by dogs.

Review 104:loved the location right on the south west coastal path. the views were great from the room and breakfast area.

Review 105:Room- dirty !! Dusty, walls with marks, toilet roll holder broken!! Shower pipe split!.. Carpet needs a good wash., the cleaner needs to be shown how to wash a floor and not make it wet!! Chairs in dining area were dirty with finger marks!! Watching the cleaner in the morning clean windows was a show of how not to clean windows!! A new cleaner is required to bring the levels back up to a high standard!!

Review 106:Location was great!! Lovely place to visit!!

Review 107:There was a problem with the shower/hot water and the loo didn't flush too well. Some of the staff need to be more careful with food preparation. I am intolerant to gluten and despite checking the content of my meal 3 times and being told it was ok I ended up on the bathroom floor at 1.30 am. Could have been more serious if I was allergic.

Review 108:Comfortable bed with lovely soft pillows. Soft towels. Good standard of cleanliness. Great location with a lovely view. Friendly, helpful staff

Review 109:Staff were unfriendly upon arrival. More interested in us paying upfront. Access to the hotel is poor, one way only and if you are a visitor it is unacceptable. Standard of food not great.

Review 110:Close to the sea and views

Review 111:The parking was horrendous and you had to carry your luggage up the stairs.

Review 112:This place was off the beaten path and had a very friendly atmosphere frequented by the locals. Our room had a fantastic view over the ocean with incredible sunsets.

Review 113:Noise of bin man 7 am on Tuesday morning. Quite a racquet. Took a long time to get service in evening with many visitors present.

Review 114:Location was excellent. Staff were helpful although a bit manic at times as there were many visitors. Room was small but very convenient and beautiful view.

Review 115:Road getting there was exciting.

Review 116:Striking location and a great place to decompress. Staff very thoughtful and friendly. We were going to use PW as a home base but it was so pleasant we just relaxed and enjoyed ourselves.

Review 117:The young bar staff/waiting on staff didn't seem to know what they were doing, had to repeat myself several times each time I ordered drinks or food.i asked for a white wine spritzer and got a plain white wine. The food wasn't at the same standard as the room, poached egg breakfast consisted of 1 round of cheap white bread with 2 eggs on top - hard boiled not poached. No hog pudding on my breakfast either. Plus the ham and pickle salad came without the pickle... Had to ask for pickle afterwards and the lamb was overcooked and was tough.

Review 118:The room itself was lovely, it was spotlessly clean and had plenty of tea/coffee/shampoos etc. brilliant view of the sea and could imagine it would be glorious on a sunny day (it was raining when we were there), the first members of staff we met (obviously more senior) were very friendly and welcoming and let us check in early as the room was ready.

Review 119:The evening meal on the first evening we were there was chaotic. They could not cope with the number of people so there were long delays and mistakes made with the food.

Review 120:Great views of a great beach. Friendly and helpful staff. Pleasant room.

Review 121:Unfortunately, the room is the thing that really lets the Inn down. The rooms are a lot smaller than they appear in the photographs. They're tiny. However, this could be considered quaint and fun if it were not for the condition of the room itself. The bed was probably the most uncomfortable bed I've experienced, with a huge depression in the middle, making it feel as though you're kissing your feet as you sleep. Not good if you have back problems I'm sure. And impossible to sleep on your front, unless you're a committed yoga practitioner. The carpet was filthy, grimy and in dire need of replacing. And the bathroom felt like it needed a good refit too.

Review 122:Port William Inn is in an amazing location. It has friendly staff and a very nice breakfast, with lots of fresh fruit and cereals as well as a nice options for a cooked breakfast.

Review 123:Very hard to find and was not informed that dogs were allowed, I find this may comprise the cleanliest of room , not keen to sleep where an animal may have been eg bed or floor , not everyone is honest where their pets are concerned

Review 124:Good size room and great view

Review 125:bathroom needs updating run out of crackers to go with cheese for a sweet ran out of bacon for breakfast queues for food and drinks reported defective bulb in bedroom on sunday not replaced when left on Wednesday despite reporting every day

Review 126:location food staff

Review 127:The room was a little on the small side, with a rather small window, and we we could hear people from the neighbouring room; all factors of the hotel being an historic building. These aspects were outweighed by the ambience of the lovely old inn, in such an amazing setting.

Review 128:The location was wonderful, with amazing views of the sea and coast. We were lucky to strike perfect weather, and enjoyed a wonderful walk on the Coast Path, to Tintagel castle. The breakfast, and other food we ordered was excellent.

Review 129:Great location. Pleasant staff..Very dog friendly

Review 130:Breakfast serving staff, Parking very difficult.

Review 131:Location & Room

Review 132:Food not brilliant & rooms need a refresh.

Review 133:Location, staff & decor.....fantastic!!!

Review 134:Parking

Review 135:Staff are very friendly. ..
