Reviews for The Coach And Horses
Review 1:Our Stay @ Coach and Horses Inn was a lot of fun. What a very charming and pretty establishment with very welcoming and attentive hosts. The new owners clearly have a love of what they do and know how to offer a memorable stay. The location was perfect in that we were out on the road each day to explore The Cotswolds so access to the main highway was quick to start our day. When we wanted to wander around Burton-on-the-Water and enjoy some cheeky drinks, the walk home was pleasant and not to far to manage. Our room was generously sized, contemporary in furnishings with a very comfortable bed as was the bathroom with bath & shower and fresh towels each day. Heating was very effective and the room was serviced and topped up everyday. Each morning we were well and truly made to feel very welcome by Kate, James and their little girl Poppy-May in the Inn. A Full Cooked English breakfast and breakfast bar were on offer which was more than tasty and filling with plunger coffee too. We missed this very welcoming treatment after our departure. Each evening we were tempted by a lovely wine list that we sampled in the bar in front of their flaming fire with locals and other visitors dropping in, it was very warming and homely.
Review 2:The staff were excellent, particularly the front of house young lady, who was so welcoming when we arrived and looked after us so well during our stay. She worked like a trooper and always had a smile on her face. Nothing was too much trouble for her to sort out for us.
Review 3:We booked pub accomodation for the convenience of eating and drinking on site but the pub did not serve food Sunday evening and closed at 7pm ! The following day we were told the pub closed at 11pm. We came back from a day out at 6pm and enquired about booking a table for our evening meal but were told that they had no food. On reflection if we had known the above, we would have probably booked somewhere in the middle of Bourton on the Water.
Review 4:Location to village of bourton on the water. Room size good with all modern facilities, although wi-fi not available in rooms . Good breakfast.
Review 5:None to think of.
Review 6:Held a family 60th birthday party so we had four of the rooms booked on a Saturday night. We ate in the restaurant then staggered back to bed. A great night was had by all. Friendly staff, nice food and good amenities and a great location.
Review 7:The fire alarm was triggered and though this went on all afternoon no 'good will' gesture was offered
Review 8:The facilities were very good and the food was excellent. Very near to the centre of Bourton
Review 9:Restaurant meal was sadly lacking: dry and unappetizing. It looked as though it had been kept hot for some time or reheated. Portions are child size, unless you are a small portion person. As such it is overpriced for skill and quantity.
Review 10:Friendly people and straightforward, simple board.
Review 11:No Wifi in rooms and bad mobile reception. Mattresses need replacing and rooms could do with a referb.
Review 12:New owners, friendly and helpful staff, nice pub. Breakfast was good.
Review 13:Located just down the road from the wedding venue, which was really handy. We also loved the local villages we went to visit in the morning after our stay.
Review 14:The website didn't say the restaurant closed at 6pm and bar at 7pm on Sunday's winter opening hours?????? That was bad not to tell us we would not have booked there if we knew. The guest bed mattress was very uncomfortable and odd jobs needed doing in the room, like the bathroom door sticks and the shower screen needed a good steam clean.
Review 15:The location and the atmosphere were lovely, the people had just taken over and it was not quite ready! The staff were nice and breakfast was lovely, I'm sure when they get on top of everything ( new owners) it will be lovely.
Review 16:Only minor problem was with TV as it did not default to digital tv so had to adjust each time I switched on.
Review 17:Spacious room, adjustable heating, clean and good breakfast. Owners very pleasant and welcoming.
Review 18:Room I had had only a small window.
Review 19:Comfortable generous sized room for medium priced accommodation. Price per room obviously does not favour the single traveller. On a main road bur rooms are well back across a court yard so I did not find traffic to be a problem. New landlord coming in so may anthing change.
Review 20:When we arrived to check in on Saturday at 6:30pm I was shown to my room and told that breakfast was at 8 - 9:30am and I was not made aware of your strict check out times. When we checked out in the morning at 10:45, I was then charged on the spot £50 for late check out with very unwelcoming staff for exceeding the check out time which we had not been made aware of when checking in. The room had a continuous leak (burst pipe) throughout the night making our nights stay uncomfortable. In the morning we woke up to a wet floor and clothes. I feel it would have been generous of us to have even paid you the £80 for the room considering the leak, the staff and the general nights stay. Our total bill came to £130 which included a £50 fine for late check out which I paid due to no leeway with staff and being in a rush to drive to Scotland. We emailed on our way back from Scotland and I didn't get a response for 2 days, I called them to ask if they had received my email and the manager said they hadn't checked their emails for 2 days - the email stated that we were in the wrong as we had forgotten to give them their keys back which I agree was our fault and that the leak was our fault as we didn't report it straight away. I would have settled for a reimbursement of £80 for the room, but they did not offer anything back. If you want a quiet nights sleep don't stay here as next to busy main road.
Review 21:Very rude staff on arrival (admittedly I was late and hadn't appreciated past their check-in time. However nothing excuses rudeness and surliness and after a long day with no supper I was then refused breakfast despite being in the price. I was alone on site with no-one else staying in the pub or staff living in - felt a little uncomfortable as a single woman in the middle of what felt like nowhere at 10pm in November! When I asked, wryly if I would be charged less due to no breakfast as it was in the price I was told that as I was so late in arriving I was in no position to ask!! The rudest welcome I have ever experienced in all my travels - I was appalled.
Review 22:The room was clean and warm and bed comfortable
Review 23:Not a pub, no food after 6pm on Sunday , closed at 7pm so no drink either , no explanation of this on their web site, we had travelled 450 miles that day not happy.
Review 24:Freshly cooked breakfast to order
Review 25:attendants could attempt to be nicer. performed the minimal required by the job description.
Review 26:facilities were good and very clean. spacious and convenient.
Review 27:Some may think it is a too far from the centre of the village.
Review 28:Really lovely family run pub with B&B accomodation. Rooms are lovely and the food in the pub is great. The owners are very nice.
Review 29:Both the staff and accommodation was fantastic. The food from our evening meal to breakfast was delicious. The accommodation was so spacious, and it was lovely to have a working heating system at this time of year. Not too far from the local attractions.
Review 30:The breakfast was cold the first morning after complaining it improved slightly but was still only warm apart from the egg and mushrooms. Good quality food shame it wasn't served hotter. We didn't realise when booking how close the accommodation was to a very busy road.
Review 31:It was within about 15 mins walking distance of the village, the room was very well furnished and very clean .
Review 32:1km away from the town centre, late breakfast (from 8:30), too tightened taps in a bathroom
Review 33:Spacious room, nice view, delicious restaurant, not very noisy even it's located beside a road
Review 34:We were impressed that the proprietor rang us before we had arrived to check that a car left in the car park with it's lights on wasn't ours (she thought we might have parked up and gone for a walk). This was a very thoughtful gesture.
Review 35:Not enough options for breakfast - we were given 3 half slices of toast with our breakfast on the first morning.
Review 36:Location - personnel pleasant and we enjoyed the surrounding area.
Review 37:Not having access to wifi in the rooms was a little frustrating at times.
Review 38:Friendly and engaging hosts, who let our little one play with their's, making it a relaxed and family affair. Rooms were exceptionally clean and very comfortable. Even though it was on a main road, traffic was very hard to hear in the rooms.
Review 39:We did not have address details to hand, and therefore found two other Coach & Horses establishments before at last finding the one we had actually booked at. We got a bit fed up with three places having the same name in the same area.
Review 40:The room was on the groundfloor and our car was parked adjacent - good position. Breakfast served well and good food.
Review 41:The location is not so good, it's just next to the highway so it was a bit noisy.
Review 42:The room was clean. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious.
Review 43:Nothing to dislike!!
Review 44:Everything!! The coach and horses was a great little pub the food was excellent, the staff very friendly and always happy to help.
Review 45:Only sad that we couldn't stay longer. Feared that road noise would be a bother. It wasn't. Not at all
Review 46:Food was simple clean healthy and delivered what was promised. Room was great, clean simple lines and furniture. Our hosts were generous charming and personable
Review 47:finding the pub closed as we arrived at 3.30pm and having to bang the letterbox quite a few times before anyone came, suggest they invest in a bell with please ring for reception.
Review 48:accommodation was good
Review 49:Nothing. It all suited our purpose.
Review 50:Groundfloor room opening onto the courtyard made dog management very easy. Easy walking distance into Bourton. Plenty of safe dog walks very close.
Review 51:sound travelled from upstairs room - could practically hear them breathing! Beds were incredibly uncomfortable TV didn't appear to work
Review 52:really nice room, fabulous shower staff very helpful and accommodating of our unsocial hours breakfast quick and tasty
Review 53:More variety at breakfast would be nice. we stayed for 6 nights and had options of cereal or cooked breakfast. Porridge oo croissants would have made a change. most people only stay for a few nights so maybe this would not matter. Road busy at times and created a little noise if windows open
Review 54:Good hospitality, friendly staff. Very good food and excellent chef. Location is just outside of the village which reflects the difference in cost. Would certainly stay there again.
Review 55:being asked by the manager what happened to the shower as it had been 'ripped' out of the wall. Myself and my two adult daughters are far from vandals! We were quite shocked by his attitude. The shower was very powerful and ventilation in the bathroom was very poor evident by the flaking paint to the ceiling etc. The shower was in place when we left. the attitude of the manager spoilt what was otherwise a lovely 40th birthday break for my daughter.
Review 56:Great location to explore. We had a room with put you up bed for three adults. The main bed was very comfortable but you could feel every spring in the put up bed so not comfortable for an adult. We had lunch when we arrived which was very good.
Review 57:Unfortunately for us we stayed on the ground floor and could hear very moment of the rooms above, throughout the night till breakfast. So our night was not very peaceful.
Review 58:Nice and clean room, very friendly staff/owners.
Review 59:Not a quiet location, very busy trunk road, also the bed could do with a mattress topper.
Review 60:Very large room and very convenient to many local attractions.
Review 61:As with the British weather, it was raining for 2 out of our 3 days. Wewere surprised to find that not only was the wifi limited to the bararea (!!?) but that the bar area shut at 9.30 straight after the onehour slot for breakfast. So on a rainy day and whilst waiting forfriends to pick us up, our thoughts of enjoying a coffee and the wifiwere dashed and we were stuck in our room until 11am. The Coach andHorses doesn't offer any facilities for the price and it seems to berun for the convenience of the staff as even the bar is shut at 9! Beingon a busy main road slightly out of Bourton on the Water meant that wewere again stuck in the room with our children. Having a husband in thehospitality trade, we couldn't believe the approach to running TheCoach and Horses.
Review 62:The room was large and accommodated the four of us well.
Review 63:The distance to the centre was further than the location suggested. As the rooms seemed to be newly erected, the doors had quite large gaps in between the door and door jambs.
Review 64:The room was new and well proportioned.
Review 65:Floor boards in room above were very squeaky and that kept us awake as the occupant was pacing up and down all night. Hot water tap on basin turns the wrong way. Room was very dark and needs updating.
Review 66:Good location
Review 67:No wifi in room unable to work once I'd arrived could have worked in bar area but not comfortable doing so. Breakfast not till 8.30 too late for me when I had to leave before 8am
Review 68:Room and restaurant very nice staff were friendly and welcoming
Review 69:The shower really is as crazy as everyone else has said.
Review 70:The meals were excellent. The accommodation across the road from the walk which goes from Lower to Upper Slaughter. A real highlight.
Review 71:No bad experience. Would have been easier if wifi worked in each room though instead of having to go into the dining room.
Review 72:Great breakfast with a friendly smile from the person serving it. Nice comfortable room. Enjoyed walking through the countryside to Lower Slaughter.....an unexpected bonus at this location.
Review 73:Road noise all night - room door and window opens straight onto car park facing main road and door was a poor fit. Breakfast doesn't start until 0830 then only on for 1 hour.
Review 74:Comfortable bed. Very clean. Easy to find. Good parking.
Review 75:Lovely large room, comfy beds and excellent facilities. Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Really good location for local attractions. Good evening meal in restaurant and value for money.
Review 76:We would have preferred access to the Wifi in the room and not have to go to the reception area.
Review 77:The room was very large and comfortable. It was close to the town of Bourton on the water.
Review 78:The only fly in the ointment. it is a busy road at night, and we could hera the lorries every time they weent past.
Review 79:This was our first time staying in this area. i do not think we could have done better with pour accomodation.
Review 80:Bar closed before 10pm, check in stopped at 9pm. Not made to feel welcome and asked when we were leaving at 10am in the lounge area of bar. 10am was check out time.
Review 81:Room was comfortable and away from the bar. Breakfast good.
Review 82:We chose to stay 2 nights in a pub because we didn't want to stay out late. So when we arrived back at 9:30 we were very disappointed that the pub had already closed - for a Saturday that is really early. The same happened on Sunday evening too, but at 9pm. When asked, the lady said she had a 2 year old to look after. Thisis no way to run a business let alone a pub!!! I believe the customer is king anywhere else. They are bound to lose business ess this way.
Review 83:Lovely room and breakfast was great
Review 84:short stay as we were at local wedding but they let us book in before our room before it was ready for our convenience and leave our bags - very welcomed comfortable bed and water when we arrived home after midnight! Breakfast was delicious and lots of it!
Review 85:Unfriendly staff! No wifi in the room. checkout late for 0.5 hour and it charges $75 for that with no room for negotiation. Unheard-of in this hospitality industry.
Review 86:Comfortable bed
Review 87:While wifi was available in the bar and resturant there was no internet acces in the rooms. Breakfast was lovely but didn't start until 8.30 which can be too late when you have a big day sightseeing planned.
Review 88:Very tasteful decoration. The internet photos didn't do justice to the charm of the place.
Review 89:felt a little rushed for checkout in the a.m a slightly more informal lounge area would be good
Review 90:location, general quality of accommodation, good food, attentive staff
Review 91:AS ROOMS ARE SEPARATE FROM THE RECEPTION/COACH HOUSE THEY OVERLOOK THE CAR PARK. HAD TO LEAVE BUILDING TO GO ACROSS A CAR PARK IF YOU REQUIRED MORE MILK/COFFEE/TEA ETC- SUGGEST THAT MORE MILK/COFFEE/TEA SHOULD BE AVAILABLE IN THE ROOMS. DISAPPOINTED THAT THE BAR CLOSES VERY EARLY.- 10.30 ON ONE EVENING WHEN WE WERE HOPING FOR A NIGHTCAP.- EVERYTHING WAS IN DARKNESS ! MAKING IT SEEM VERY UNWELCOMING. ROOM - BATH TAP TOO TIGHT TO TURN OFF. THE BATHROOM COURTESY MAKEUP/SHAVING LIGHT WAS FAR TOO HIGH TO REACH (HAD TO STAND ON THE TOILET TO SWITCH ON AND OFF). TOILETRIES NOT REPLENISHED AND WASHBASIN NOT CLEANED.
Review 92:PEACEFUL AND QUIET. THE BEDROOMS WERE QUITE HIGH SPEC AND LOCATED IN A SEPARATE CONVERTED BARN.
Review 93:We went to dinner at 6.40 and the menu was greatly reduced with a lot of items no longer available. This may be our fault for not booking and we did still had a splendid meal.
Review 94:Convenient location to tour the Cotswolds. Room secluded and quiet.
Review 95:Wonderful proprietors, extremely friendly and wanting to ensure you are pleased. Great food both breakfast and dinner. Stopping in the pub at the end of a day of touring felt like coming home. Great walking paths nearby. Rooms very comfortable and clean,
Review 96:The one hour when breakfast was available was somewhat inflexible and the busy road was a little noisy.
Review 97:Central location in the Cotswolds was perfect. Clean and comfortable room. Good breakfasts.
Review 98:Couldn't use shower because the pressure was so high! Closed between 2pm and 5pm. Got the impression C & H was closer to town. Paid 6 pounds for tomato soup that tasted like dishwater.
Review 99:Breakfast was great. Staff were friendly. Plenty of carpark space.
Review 100:Friendly staff, great rooms with lovely toiletries and little extras like yummy biscuits and hot chocolate as well as tea and coffee. Free wifi in the pub. Great location. We walked to The Slaughters from there and it's also a short walk to town.
Review 101:The room was great, excellent water pressure in the shower. Breakfast was also very good, full English cooked breakfast. Located directly across the street from the footpath to Lower Slaughter. Staff was very helpful and friendly.
Review 102:A bit of a draft through the cottage door and some noise from the road BUT it must be remembered that these are old buildings and it is one the main road - although the cottages are well set back and behind the car park. Earplugs help a lot!
Review 103:Spotless bedroom Plenty of storage space for clothes very well provisioned tea and coffee (& hot chocolate) making facility Helpful and friendly hosts
Review 104:Welcome and friendly staff...lovely food. We wish the couple every success as they start on their second year in the pub...they deserve to be successful.
Review 105:I was a little cold and there was no spare bedding in the room. Happy to give me a blanket for our 2nd night though. No fresh fruit at breakfast
Review 106:Spacious room helpful friendly happy staff location
Review 107:Would have been nice to have wifi in our room.
Review 108:Friendly and helpful owners; great English breakfast; large, comfortable, nice room; great little pub; very good value for money.
Review 109:Broken gutter that dripped all night during the rain
Review 110:Good location just outside Bourton on the Water. Rooms, nice size and comfortable and separate from the pub, good place to stay, would stay again
Review 111:No wifi access in rooms, and had to wait until 8:30 in the morning to get access to the pub to be able to log in. For international travellers with jet lag, who are awake from around 4am, this was an annoyance.
Review 112:History of the property was very interesting and the buildings are well preserved. Food was good, though a little pricey. Accommodation very comfortable.
Review 113:No WiFi in the rooms, and ver poor in the pub. The breakfast would've been good had it been hot, we sent both back only to have them returned after a blast in the microwave. Rubber eggs! We left it all.
Review 114:The room was very spacious, tastefully decorated, clean and comfortable. The fish and chips on the menu was very good.
Review 115:One small criticism is the gents toilets in the main bar could have been better serviced.
Review 116:The staff were friendly and accommodating. Room was comfortable, well furnished with all the facilities you would expect from a four star hotel with the friendliness of a good B&B. Great breakfast, well cooked and plentiful.
Review 117:My room was on the ground floor and the noice of steps from the upstairs was clear. A little bit disturbing at bed time.
Review 118:I travelled with one female friend and we stayed in the twin room for one night. The room was large, clean and comfortable. The building was in between the city center of Bourton-on-the-water and Lower Slaughter. It was convenient to us as we wanted to visit both. Located next to a lawn, the restaurant provided a good view of sunset. Nice breakfast as well.
Review 119:Nothing really but wifi in the room would be a bonus
Review 120:Cleanliness friendly staff facilities central location for the cotswolds lovely food excellent chef lovely atmosphere pub with plenty of character stay was lovely would definitely visit again
Review 121:atmospheric but quite small bar area within burner We arrived late but the owner was happy to accommodate our request for a bar snack on a Sunday evening - breakfast was ok nice sausages but was slightly over cooked
Review 122:Bedroom needs Double-glazing because of road noise, and the Front door didn't fit properly
Review 123:Nice modern bedrooms, Pleasant, Hard-working Staff, Excellent Breakfast
Review 124:Large bath towel would have been useful. Bathroom needed decorating. Television could of been positioned higher. Fridge facilities.
Review 125:The room was beautiful, nice quality furniture....Handy parking.
Review 126:Meals were expensive, did not expect McDonalds chips with gammon no choice to have veg or potatoes . breakfast took 30mins to come on second day then it was not what I asked for, when it came back still not right kept it but egg was hard bacon cold only enough tea for one cup each had to ask for some more(think they need to organise breakfast better.
Review 127:Room was comfortable clean ,staff were polite and friendly .
Review 128:Wifi is only available in the restaurant. The room is a bit cold, especially in the bathroom.
Review 129:Bright room with lots of space. Comfy bed! Good locations, less than 5 mins drive to town centre of Bourton on the water. 8/10 :)
Review 130:The cleanliness of the property, excellent and varied food menu. attentive and friendly staff, and an ideal location for visiting the surrounding area of Bourton on the Water.
Review 131:Price of meal was a bit expensive for plate of spagetti, & not enough on plate there was more in a tin, but otherwise food was lovely just could have done with a bit more.
Review 132:The room and how clean it was
Review 133:Room cold on arrival. shower attachment broken. Generally a bit stark - easily remediable with minimum expenditure. Breakfast timing far too late. Had to leave without.
Review 134:Excellent food, helpful staff, particularly in restaurant.
Review 135:Breakfast was not good , my husband went for the continental breakfast - he was served with two pieces of toast. I waited for about ten minutes for my pot of tea by which time my breakfast was cold .we stayed in the annex outside in the car park it was very noisy from road noise.we were told to vacate our room by 10.00am!!
Review 136:Not a lot.
