Reviews for The Cairn Lodge & Hotel

Review 1:Very few minor annoyances, tv not working in our room and shower bracket broken.

Review 2:Very pleasant and helpful staff who did a wonderful job supplying flowers and balloons for my wife's 65th birthday. We all enjoyed the food and the general ambience of the hotel was very pleasant.

Review 3:A mirror somewhere to enable me to put on make up without standing would be nice. Even a small freestanding one that can be moved to window for natural light. Not a complaint just a suggestion.

Review 4:Presentation and quality of food at dinner and breakfast was excellent. Staff were warm and friendly. Would definitely return and recommend.

Review 5:Prefer a slightly firmer bed but that could be a personal preference.

Review 6:Great location, great room. Food was of a high standard. The Hotel staff were eager to help and were friendly.

Review 7:Food and the service provided not so good. The price we have paid per day it is too expensive for a hotel such as this.

Review 8:Such hotel in good location. A very peaceful place tobe.

Review 9:Do not trust this hotel. I was given a box room much smaller room thanthe pictures indicated without any chairs or curtains. You will beallocated based on availability and if the hotel is close to capacityyou could get one of these rooms which are not reflected in thepictures. The restaurant is lifeless with no atmosphere. Food is averageand service terrible. Not nearly enough staff.

Review 10:Dinner Menu on Monday 21/09/15 was a poor selection, especially main course

Review 11:The decor, the ambience, the quality of the furnishings and surroundings.

Review 12:Unfortunately the kitchen had a gas shortage so we weren't able to use the restaurant for evening meal, shame as a friend has raved how good it was!

Review 13:Stunning rooms Great value discounted rate excellent breakfast

Review 14:Staff were very pleasant but there didn't appear to be enough of them & they weren't very attentive. Multiple times we had to go looking for them for basic requests.

Review 15:Good size, well equipped rooms.

Review 16:Bath took ages too fill. Hardly a major prob ad was a,massiveluxurious bath :)

Review 17:Luxurious surrounding. Complimentary sparkling wine,as was 1 nighthoneymoon. Cocktails. Food. Staff. Bed. Huge bath. Brill shower. Thebest softest towels. I felt so spoiled and Def will go back

Review 18:The sink would not hold water. The toilet flush was broken. The bathroom door would not go past the toilet. No hand grips near the shower that was over the bath,so difficult to get out, Bedside lamps were dusty Hotel very understaffed..

Review 19:The staff were excellent.

Review 20:No gym. Also, we found the hotel a little style over substance in that there was little room in the bathroom to place toiletries or makeup. Also, the sockets were no where near the mirrors so using hair straighteners was tricky.

Review 21:Scott was just lovely. He was helpful and efficient. Promote him! The burgers were fantastic also.

Review 22:phone did not work...no room service menue in room and had to go to reception....toilet broke...door jammed half way open....public toilet in reception broke...tap to wash your hands broke..roomservice meal ( curry pot ) was terrible...water with a bit colour and over cooked rice...no mirror in room...no bath

Review 23:shower was ok and tv

Review 24:Very few staff, had to wait over 10 mins to check in. Eventually sought someone out in the restaurant. One girl (who was very sweet) seemed to be doing everything

Review 25:Very comfy bed

Review 26:Staff all great but young and inexperienced maybe could of done with more training in restaurant ie take away old glass when get new one but minor quibble as all staff very friendly

Review 27:Location to Gleneagles Big room comfy beds Great food

Review 28:We liked the look of the building when arriving and were expecting an interior to match. The new interior design is a matter of taste - bad taste in this case and so inappropriate. This building deserves so much more. Such a pity.

Review 29:The position of the hotel is perfect for golfers, as Gleneagles and Auchterarder golf courses are just around the corner.

Review 30:For the size of the hotel there simply were not enough members of the team to deliver a fast efficient service. For example there was no one at reception to deal with arrivals as staff had to come through from the restaurant and similarly no one to man the bar in the evening. The team did a fantastic job under the circumstances but they worked very hard.

Review 31:We had a wonderful special birthday celebration for a group of 12 and the staff could not have been nicer or more helpful in all the arrangements. The food was excellent and the rooms were opulent luxury

Review 32:We had booked an upgraded double room but the room allocated was very small, apparently the smallest of this category. There was evidence of damage to plasterwork in the room.

Review 33:Modern and clean.

Review 34:Staff having to multi task resulted in lower than expected level of service. Number of minor irritations experienced including shower noise, lack of toilet roll and tissues, shower gel in room partially used by prior guest.

Review 35:Nothing really. shower was loud

Review 36:loved the hotel, interior was quirky, but fabulous! Huge bedroom, comfy bed, amazing bathroom, great food, lovely staff.

Review 37:Kept awake most of the night by water pouring through and over blocked and dilapidated gutters onto the flat roof outside our bedroom window The food is okay but no more .Steaks at dinner overcooked/breakfast poor (one miserly cup of coffee, limited buffet table, past sell by yogurt and an untoasted BLT Bagel stacked full of tasteless lettuce and tomatoes)

Review 38:The hotel has been extensively refurbished not necessarily to all tastes but very comfortable, all the same Very pleasant staff and an excellent bedroom

Review 39:The double deluxe room was lovely. We got a glass of champagne on arrival for our honeymoon which was a nice touch. We both had the best nights sleep, the bed was sooooo comfortable.food was good and the bar was really nice too.

Review 40:Didn't have bad experience but got room in annex and would of like to be informed of this, we maybe would have changed weekends! Still had a lovely time tho.

Review 41:Evening meal was lovely and atmosphere great!

Review 42:Really slow wi-fi Varying quality of the restaurant

Review 43:Location close to Gleneagles Good bed Decor and ambience Spacious rooms Service oriented staff

Review 44:Although stated as a 5*, we thought it really only merited a 4*. The fine detail was lacking for the price paid. Although every member of staff was helpful individually there was no real leadership within the staff.

Review 45:The decor is lovely, very chic, the staff were very helpful, one girl in particular.

Review 46:Leaving the fountain on all night is a real noisy feature in an area which is otherwise very quiet. Our room overlooked the fountain !!!

Review 47:The location, appearance, style and overall cleanliness.

Review 48:We loved everything from the spacious and stylish comfortable room to the food. We were celebrating the recent marriage of my sister and had a separate diningroom for our party. The staff were very attentive and nothing was a problem. A nice evening was had by all. Breakfast was plentiful and not rushed.

Review 49:it was so dark in the bedrooms (being black) and there were no mirrors especially for hair drying! Also some of the toilet 'facilities' needing repaired. Thought the bathroom was badly designed as the door banged against the toilet seat. Didn't like there being no plug in basin!

Review 50:The decor was quite startling but worked well. Dining and food were excellent.

Review 51:Some of the staff were a bit inexperienced, but pleasant and helpful all the same.

Review 52:The decor throughout the hotel was beautiful, all done in black and white - very contemporary. Room was spacious and bed very comfortable. Fully tiled marble bathroom with a double bath and walk in shower. The food in the restaurant was good too. All in all a perfect short break.

Review 53:Extreme black and white decor, especially in bedrooms. it is not very relaxing and made it difficult to see into black sideboard where coffee etc. was kept. The bedroom did not contain a mirror, so was not sure where a lady would style her hair with the hairdryer provided!

Review 54:extremely comfortable and large rooms. very friendly and helpful staff. first class food--both dinner and breakfast. As our weather was excellent we were able to take full advantage of the large and comfortable seating and eating area outside.

Review 55:We stayed at the Cairn for 3 nights half board. Food was excellent, rooms were fab & all the staff were extremely attentive & helpful. Rooms were spotless & finished to a very high standard. We couldn't rate this hotel highly enough & would stay here again if in Perthshire. We would certainly recommend this hotel to all our friends & anyone else. Brian & Caroline. Belfast.

Review 56:Everything the way we expected Perfect

Review 57:Stayed many a time and always feel welcome

Review 58:Food expensive.

Review 59:Fabulous hotel, excellent food.

Review 60:Superb room. Staff excellent. Really nice food.

Review 61:A beautiful boutique hotel; super comfortable rooms, great staff.

Review 62:Beautifully appointed & decorated. Friendly, helpful staff. Good food at a reasonable price.

Review 63:Nothing at all

Review 64:Everything! Fab from the outset?!

Review 65:Room too hot and no means of reducing heat

Review 66:Beautiful hotel, very comfortable.stayed in the lodge ,no 11, had nice touches-sound system and pod coffee machine. Would recommend and stay again.

Review 67:Nothing to fault at.

Review 68:The staff (Laura) was excelant and very helpfull, food was very good. we all enjoyed the 2 nights stay, not long enough.

Review 69:Sound system and main light in bedroom didn't work and the staff were absent when required. Eg nobody behind bar and reception when needed.

Review 70:Limited storage in bedroom, ie- no chest of drawers, similarly no place in bathroom for spongebags, a cupboard or a washstand would have been useful

Review 71:No place to put toiletries in the bathroom.Only shelf space was the window ledge in the toilet.

Review 72:Comfort of bed and pillows

Review 73:Overall a nice place to stay with a first class room and excellent meals.

Review 74:Leisure facilities would have been the icing on the cake.

Review 75:Large comfortable room Lovely decor Friendly staff

Review 76:Fabulous location and everything was perfect

Review 77:Very helpful and friendly staff, great decor, food was exceptional.

Review 78:Everything was perfect and will be back again

Review 79:Large room which was very nice and clean with lovely bathroom. Scottish breakfast was excellent

Review 80:Stay not long enough will remedy soon

Review 81:We loved everything staff decor food wine all first class

Review 82:Nothing

Review 83:Everything. This was a birthday present for my wife and the staff truly made it special. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Review 84:Downstairs of the hotel required some tidy up i.e. painting, decoration. Breakfast was poor.

Review 85:Bedroom was very clean, spacious and luxurious.

Review 86:Rooms were nice with very modern fixtures and fittings however very very small

Review 87:Lovely trendy bar and dining room

Review 88:The staff were great from beginning to end. Always on hand to offer assistance. Food excellent at reasonable prices!

Review 89:Sheff late for breakfast, didn't turn in until 9am

Review 90:Bathroom

Review 91:nothing

Review 92:everything, ambiance

Review 93:avoid room 9 - very small room

Review 94:Food was excellent. All the staff were excellent

Review 95:lack of drawers for clothes

Review 96:bathroom amazing room very luxurious food very good staff very friendly

Review 97:Everything

Review 98:This hotel gives you a warm hug from the moment you pull into the car park, nothing to fault All staff were excellent

Review 99:Wifi didn't work well in the room.

Review 100:Location close to Gleneagles. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

Review 101:The room was too hot even with windows open

Review 102:Lovely sirroundings but different to my usual taste. Menu quite expensive, nice though, but not sure quite nice enough.

Review 103:Something a bit different. Really enjoyed our stay and would definitely come again. Room was superb. Meals were excellent.

Review 104:Poor wine list

Review 105:Excellent design

Review 106:thought area outside could have been tidied up more regular

Review 107:rooms were beautiful, staff were good food excellent

Review 108:This was our first visit since the hotel was refurbished and we were very pleased with the outcome and were very impressed with the quality of furnishings and fittings.

Review 109:Poor phone reception .... BUT that's hardly the Hotels fault !!!

Review 110:I have stayed in hotels all over the world due to the nature of my work, this Hotel Lodge is by far my favourite yet, it's a 10 out of 10 WOW factor in every aspect, from you check in till you check out.... Just can't wait to visit again

Review 111:A nice overnight stay while on my travels up north, The hotel was very nice and the room was very nice. The steak was the highlight of the night and was cooked to perfection.

Review 112:No swimming pool which I was fully aware of but this addition would make this the perfect hotel.

Review 113:Very stylish hotel and the staff were all extremely friendly. Highly recommend!

Review 114:I personally would have like some music during and after dinner .Felt it lacked abit of atmosphere after dinner was finished .

Review 115:The staff were very nice and helpful.the Decor was amazing in every corner of the hotel ,

Review 116:Lack of plug sockets, wife had to sit on the floor in front of the wardrobe to dry her hair! Breakfast on the first day was not nice, everything far too salty, coffee was incredibly bitter. Second day was better, having more staff available on day 2 seemed to help.

Review 117:Room was fantastic in terms of look. Evening meal was nice if a little expensive. Staff very friendly.

Review 118:The hotel had no record of our booking (made 9 months before) but eventually found a room for us for two nights. Although told this was a one off event, my cousin who had booked a room for 2 nights at the Cairn Lodge a week before his stay also encountered the same problem. Bedroom looks wonderful but: impossible to read with bedside light and you have to get out of bed to switch it off; mirror placed too high on wall to do make up or dry hair (designed by a man?); no place to a suitcase; radiator/towel rail in bathroom didn't work despite 3 requests. Designers should be made to spend a night or two in their own creations before the public do so.

Review 119:Staff were professional and friendly. Great breakfasts and excellent, "proper" coffee.

Review 120:Breakfast was a bit slow but to be fair it was very busy. An additional mirror in bathroom would be useful as the nicely designed sink does not allow you to get close enough to the mirror behind it to do your makeup.

Review 121:We stayed in room 5 it was amazing!! White leather pillows in the bath for two! Staff were very friendly and efficient. Food was lovely and hotel on a whole is beautifully designed. We would return.

Review 122:Very friendly, luxury surroundings, great food both dinner and breakfast the manager Lionel lovely man, the price we paid was a bargain, and would certainly return, pity they are all sold out for the Ryder Cup!

Review 123:After reading other reviews for this hotel we were expecting some fine dining. Dinner was rather disappointing although the fillet steak that we had instead of the non-existent Chateaubriand was very good. Starter and puddings a bit nondescript, I am sorry to say. Breakfast was also nearly non-existent as we had an appointment a 10 minute drive from the hotel at 8.45. We did mention this at check-in when we were told that breakfast was served from 8 until 10. Unfortunately the chef didn't turn up until 8.00, about the same time as us, and we got our breakfast at 8.35!!! The one waiter was pleasant and did apologise but we had to track him down to check out as there was no-one on the front desk. Not what I expect from a hotel at this price range.

Review 124:Rooms were nice and freshly decorated. Front desk staff on arrival were very helpful and friendly

Review 125:The food was very disappointing.

Review 126:the staff were very friendly and helpful.
