Reviews for Garth Hotel
Review 1:No wifi in bedroom but this wouldn't stop us returning.
Review 2:Pluses were: Staff - very friendly and helpful Location - good base for visiting the area Room - good size, warm and comfortable with bath and excellent shower Breakfast - freshly cooked and good choices of fruit yoghurt etc We can take our dog next time Small, homely hotel with character
Review 3:Wifi is very limited with no reception in bedrooms at all and kept dropping in communal area. Given that 4G signal isn't great in the area, decent wifi is a must for business travellers. Had to wait for checkout as there were no staff at reception and no bell to ring despite it being 9.30am.
Review 4:Nice room and friendly welcome.
Review 5:Our room was baltic when we arrived as the heating hadn't been on. There were cobwebs on the ceiling and a few marks on the net curtains. Also, small thing but we only had enough milk for a single drink each which meant I found myself wandering down to reception in my PJs in the morning - it was resolved with no problem, however!
Review 6:We were the only people in the hotel so we were a little spoilt with the service! The staff were obliging in every way. The food is LOVELY, breakfast was plentiful, excellent choices and served with a smile. We also ate in the evening and brought friends with us - the staff accommodated us to eat in the snug with the open fire. The shower was hot and powerful, towels lovely and soft and the beds comfortable enough to keep us asleep straight through. Thank you!
Review 7:Only one chef and two (very busy waitresses) in the restaurant on the Saturday night, meant quite a wait for our one-course meal. The waitresses were very efficient, but had to cope with the bar as well as the restaurant.
Review 8:Friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Also the full English breakfast on the Sunday morning was great.
Review 9:Nothing
Review 10:Great staff all very friendly.Food was excellent including Xmas menu.Very warm bedrooms and well kept.Would definitely recommend.Molly our Dog was spoils too.
Review 11:Shower did not work properly - no hot water of any pressure. If you are booking in near future, ask if shower is fixed in room 6.
Review 12:Ideal location for visiting family. Very comfortable room. Good choice of breakfast and nicely cooked.
Review 13:The friendly staff and cosy, homely environment. The small lounge with the log fire is very welcoming and comfortable. Good food and service. Nice restaurant. Breakfast in particular quite delicious with good choice for small or hearty appetites. Comfortable bed and room 17 nice and quiet.
Review 14:"Hot water" - not really! lukewarm would be a more accurate description. Wi-Fi reception is restricted to bar/reception area which is ok when things are quite, but may upset fellow guests if other people are working whilst they relax
Review 15:Despite our reservation being in the hotel diary for the incorrect day, this slight hiccup was dealt with very efficiently by the young receptionist on duty. In fact this young employee was a credit to the hotel and was more than able to deal with reception duties as well as staffing the bar area. I'd employ this member of staff if she lived closer to Edinburgh. Unfortunately we arrived late as was our plan, so were unable to sample the restaurant facilities, although breakfast was everything we expected it to be.
Review 16:No cocktails to speak of.
Review 17:Loved the atmosphere and the staff. Excellent dinner in the restaurant. Was able to get a box lunch which was good and a good value. You could walk into town or close to walking paths. Outside terrace to have cocktail and bagpipe player to boot. Big and comfy bed. Free parking.
Review 18:Waited over an hour for a table for dinner despite having booked one on our arrival. The hotel wifi does not work & is totally useless for any business users
Review 19:Good food & friendly staff
Review 20:They were short of staff on the first evening dinner, slow service. Staff tried there best. Next day much improved
Review 21:Food on second day breakfast/dinner very good
Review 22:My bathroom had a damp smell and could do with better ventilation or a window that would open
Review 23:Warm welcome and very helpful staff nothing was too much trouble
Review 24:Not a particularly warm or friendly welcome by the staff on reception after a long day's riding. Said we'd have to book an evening meal on arrival as hotel/town very busy and not many other places to eat - not correct as we found an excellent pub just off the high street that did brilliant pies. Hotel in general and the food expensive for what it was.
Review 25:Breakfast was good.
Review 26:Supper meal at night time was awful, really poor service with orders not all served and portion size was appalling. Had the feel of a hotel charging for upmarket dining and failing badly to deliver.
Review 27:This isn't really a bad experience as the Garth is a very old building and I don't imagine there is anything they can do about it , but the WiFi only worked in the bar, not the rooms.
Review 28:The staff were exceptionally helpful as we'd got our dates mixed up and so had they, but it was smoothly sorted. Liked the general ambience of the hotel, the gardens and of course the piper.
Review 29:We arrived at the hotel to find they had no booking for us. We found other expensive accommodation ourselves. No help was given to find other accommodation. We are worried in future that our bookings will be mistaken or not forwarded. I request a reply and have already forwarded 2 emails.
Review 30:The Internet conductivity was not good. The room size was good, but had limited amenities. Electricity was spotty. The food was good, but the portion sizes were small. Drink portions were small for the prices.
Review 31:Wifi connections/coverage could be better - currently only available in the bar and reception.
Review 32:Location, friendly staff, quality of the room. The food was great too.
Review 33:I couldn't fault it and I'm known to be quite fussy !
Review 34:The staff were very friendly, the food was excellent and the room was spotless. Great for those wishing to take their dog
Review 35:WiFi only works in bar and lounge area. Beds are a little firm for my taste.
Review 36:Very friendly and helpful staff. Good meals despite being very busy at times. Nicely refurbished rooms.
Review 37:Room not warm enough. Bathroom in need of attention. Awful smell. Patches of dirty grout. Wi fi only in the bar. Breakfast not freshly cooked. Waitress in the morning was polite but not friendly. If you want to 'test' how good a Scottish hotel is, go off peak in January or February!
Review 38:The evening meal was good. Nice lounge with cosy real fire. The room was clean.
Review 39:The room needed double glazing. Road noise loud also walls very thin. We went in January and room was cold but they provided extra heater.
Review 40:The staff couldn't do enough for you they were excellent.
Review 41:Car park should have been gritted - ice
Review 42:Pet friendly Excellent facilities Room perfectly located for the dogs Superb food Great atmosphere Very clean

Review 46:Nothing!
Review 47:The staff were fantastic and friendly and really accommodating to our requests. Food was superb throughout our stay and had a very comfortable and quiet nights sleep.
Review 48:we weren't asked if we wanted a table for dinner when we checked in or subsequent mornings at breakfast. Its only a small point but the restaurant gets busy with non residents and they made us feel like they were doing us a favour squeezing us in at an inconvenient time even though we were staying with them
Review 49:very good breakfast, good restaurant meals in the evening, friendly staff, comfortable rooms. We were surprised how nice the town is, much better than Aviemore where we had originally planned to stay.
Review 50:The Garth Hotel was lovely and very traditionally Scottish. The staffwere exceptionally friendly and responsive. The hotel restaurant wascozy, and one couls easily imagine themselves in a Scottish huntinglodge with the tartan- themed decor. The food was excellent as well. Ourroom was spacious and comfotable.
Review 51:Everything about the place was perfunctory. A soulless experience which compared badly to the excellent places we stayed in other parts of Scotland.
Review 52:Not much.
Review 53:Duvet too hot, but it got changed, so no problem
Review 54:Snow on Boxing Day. Local food,

Review 101:The piper playing on our arrival!
Review 102:Shower head needed a soak in bleach to clean the black deposited off.
Review 103:Vegetarian breakfast was very nice indeed.
Review 104:Average hotel. Didn't seem great value and supposed special price looked like normal price. Retro CRT TV – though they had all disappeared – with only 4 channels. Very noisy room – boiler or something downstairs rumbled on and off all the time.
Review 105:Clean and comfortable. Nice bathroom with plenty of water in shower. Nice breakfast. Good location at end of town overlooking public garden.
Review 106:Stayed for dinner, which alas was very average.
Review 107:Comfortable bed, excellant cotton bedlinen, good pressure on shower. Great breakfast and friendly, happy staff.
Review 108:bed too hard though realise this can be a personal preference(room 1)
Review 109:staff were fantastic, helpful, friendly and efficient. Food excellent - dinner and breakfast! Room very nice.
Review 110:The room was comfy and we had everything we needed. After a long walk, a hot bath was heavenly. The hotel reception staff were very welcoming, though the woman who served us breakfast was a little moody. This is why I've rated the staff as 'good' rather than 'excellent'. Overall though, this was excellent value for money and we would definitely go back.
Review 111:Weclomed us and let us know of local amenities and got us a drink to getsettled before bar closed. Even offered food but we ate out at amaziongcurry house. Thanks!
Review 112:The double bed was two singles pushed together without a mattress topper nor a duvet large enough for a bed that size.
Review 113:Really nice place and nice staff
Review 114:My sister stayed in a single room across the hall from us. It was very claustrophobic, and the mattress was uncomfortable.
Review 115:The welcome is always warm at the Garth hotel. We popped in there two years ago for drinks and the staff lit the fire in the guest lounge for us, as it was a cold night. We decided then and there we'd love to return on our next holiday for an overnight stay. And so we did. Our double room was an excellent size, and very comfortable. At dinner, although there was an unavoidable delay with our starter, the waiting staff acknowledged this before we had to, and offered us complimentary drinks. Breakfast was excellent, and check out was very accommodating (I wanted to pay in a slightly complicated manner, but this was made very easy). I would definitely return, and recommend to friends.
Review 116:Need to update TVs...little on old side. This being said this area is not one where you should be in your room much. So....
Review 117:Outstanding hotel. The restaurant was very special as well. We just spent 14 days in Ireland and Scotland, 8 different hotels and this was by far our #1 for best meal and place to stayed.
Review 118:Came and asked for last orders before 11.00....5 of us enjoying a drink by the fire then.....would have enjoyed another drink later on.......
Review 119:Open fire in the lounge....great meal at night....friendly staff.....lovely breakfast....
Review 120:Bed was a little overfirm truth be told.
Review 121:Stayed here several times over the years and never fails to impress. Ambience, wonderful food and drink and fantastic location in the Cairngorms National Park.
