Reviews for Vale of York
Review 1:The rooms are very basic, but you get what you pay for and the price was possibly the cheapest you would get anywhere..Ideal spot I imagine if you are race going or passing through on business.
Review 2:Staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. Had a great evening in the pub, where the customers were also very friendly and warm people. Really enjoyed my stay. Breakfast was fine and my dog was welcome to join me..He even got a bit of sausage as a treat...
Review 3:Would it hurt to buy a cheap table lamp? Nowhere to place toiletries next to tiny sink. Room sporadically cleaned, room was depressing, was a good ploy to make you use the pub. Pub food was ok but clientele seemed to have come straight from work in smelly clothes. You could say what do you expect for £30 per night, well actually quite a lot, living in Spain I can get a fabulous hotel off season at this price.
Review 4:I was expecting the worst after reading reviews and not being allowed to cancel even though it was 5 days in advance, but the room smelled clean, was warm and the shower was good
Review 5:The shower in room 1 is so tight for space,it is extremely difficult to wash thoroughly. The bath room is extremely tight for space. The hand basin is minute!!
Review 6:The food, evening in the pub and the breakfast were very good.
Review 7:Room still had a lot of hair in the carpet. Orange juice was off. No one to welcome us to breakfast, no one showed us into our room.
Review 8:You could take pets
Review 9:The rooms are quite spartan
Review 10:Food was a bit better than standard, staff were friendly & helpful. Left too early for breakfast & were given nice 'pack-up'. |good price.
Review 11:No side lamp in bedroom. No curtain over frosted glass front door. only one had a hot shower. stone cold for second person.
Review 12:The tremendously friendly staff.
Review 13:Not much character in rooms, has a student halls of residence feel about it not hotel. Beds very small.
Review 14:Location good and parking facilities very convenient
Review 15:Wires from flatscreen tv came down onto where my granddaughter was sleeping. The kettle far too big to get into the tiny sink for water to fill it, had to use a cup. NO toilet brush. My daughter and husband experienced far worse in room5!! They had no sleep as couple above sounded like they were making homemade porn!! Disgusted
Review 16:Clean and comfortable
Review 17:Perfect as a transit hotel. Well located for nearby Ripon & Fountains Abbey on the main road, near Thirsk. Rosie and the team were very friendly. Excellent value for money. An enjoyable breakfast.
Review 18:The room was a bit noisy and I didn't feel safe as someone tried my door at 1:30am. The heating was not working properly in the breakfast room. Had to wear my coat.
Review 19:The staff were very friendly and the food was excellent. Enjoyed the atmosphere in the Bar.
Review 20:Nothing
Review 21:Fantastic we stayed here with our dog and we were well looked after the pub is really nice and friendly the food was great very clean comfortable rooms we will be staying again loved it....
Review 22:We were led to believe it was 55 pound per night yet we were charged 60 pounds per night ? The bathroom smelled of dampness as did the room, the television was tiny as the bedroom side cabinet was , the down stairs door was left open all night , we never got a change of towels.
Review 23:The staff and food were good.
Review 24:Friendly and efficient staff. I just needed a place for 1 night on my way further North and this was perfect. Great location just off the A1(M) and easy. I arrived really late (1.30am) but the kind staff had left a key out for me. Breakfast was delicious and very welcome too.
Review 25:the staff went out of there way to cater for my mother in law who needs a gluten free diet, nothing was to much trouble for them, the food was first rate, can't what for my return stopover
Review 26:Might I suggest that larger hand basin in the bath room should be fitted. The existing hand basin is far too small.
Review 27:The evening pub food was very good, and the breakfast.
Review 28:Bathroom door in room 2 doesn't fully close, and sink a bit small if you want to do more than wash hands without having full shower, otherwise good room facilities. Tables and chairs in dining room are sticky, could do with a full clean down. It was quite pricey for 5 bed and breakfast. Group discount should be given. Otherwise very nice stay and lovely staff and great food made up for all. Thank you.
Review 29:Staff friendly and great food. Flexible over meals, snack options. Good parking. Warm and cozy room.
Review 30:Shower cubicle tiles & tray not very clean. TV remote did not work - Sue changed it immediately however. Breakfast staff not very friendly.
Review 31:Convenience to Thirsk, Carlton Miniott is a nice village. Situated on a main road (A61)
Review 32:Charged £5.00 extra for the privilege of checking myself in after 8pm! Key in box at door. Almost impossible to see in the dark. Nobody there in the morning either when I wanted to check out-though the owner appeared just after 8am. Total lack of customer service and paying extra for the privilege!
Review 33:Room was clean and well equipped. Tea and coffee making facilities. Fair price.
Review 34:The rooms are very basic and not very well insulated as it was possible to hear every noise in the room next door and above and the beds are exceptional soft and springy. The reception on the television was intermittent. Although food was not served on Sunday evening, staff were helpful in offering take-away menus. Breakfast was hot and acceptable however the coffee was instant and of a poor quality and unfortunately the milk had gone off! It was a last minute booking and somewhere we will not be returning to in a hurry.
Review 35:The location of the pub is perfect for the races or train station.
Review 36:The shower room left a lot to be desired. Broken toilet roll holder just left on the floor The sink plug broken The shower cubicle had mould all round it Also we did wonder if there was a fire on the stairs how would we have got out?
Review 37:Easy to get too the staff in the restaurant were very polite and helpful
Review 38:Was way overpriced for staying in a very outdated facility, the dinner was of poor standard and we had to carry all our luggage up about 30 stairs.
Review 39:Breakfast
Review 40:Had to leave early so was promised that breakfast would be prepared and ready for me a little earlier than their 'official start time' but it didn't happen and no apology. Didn't sleep well as the single beds are very narrow and uncomfortable. No WiFi in my room so had to go into the bar/restaurant to work.
Review 41:Nice pub.
Review 42:The wi-fi was Abit of a let down it only seemed to work in the bar area
Review 43:All the staff where very friendly very helpful couldn't have asked for anymore, & not too far from theme park which we was going to thank you
Review 44:The tiny wash hand basin in ensuite made washing a skill. Lots of water on ones feet! Not a great deal of natural light in room Tiny tv Better selection of in room drinks. eg, drinking choc my favourite luxury fix! Other teas possibly apart from standard one type,
Review 45:Nice and quiet , super breakfast options. Casual attitude of staff made for a pleasant stay alone.
Review 46:Staff very polite, food good, room size perfect and bathroom very good with a lovely shower. Location excellent a few minutes from race course and city centre and also near tesco, very good stay, will recommend it.
Review 47:Room was ok but very basic, very small washbasin and no shelves in bathroom. Poor wifi acces in rooms
Review 48:Staff friendly and tradiitonal pub food was good
Review 49:No Wifi - despite it being advertised on Booking.com.
Review 50:Room was perfectly acceptable for a solo traveler. Great location for Thirsk Breakfast was great. Staff very friendly.
Review 51:The bedrooms could do with updating a little bit and a really good clean and lick of paint, they're not bad, just dated a little bit.
Review 52:Staff are lovely and friendly, very much a locals pub, locals are friendly.
Review 53:Staff were lovely, nothing was too much trouble. Our room was upgraded and we were the first to stay in the brand new room in the annex, although not quite fully furnished.
Review 54:Beds could be a little comfier, they're not horrific but not amazingly comfy!
Review 55:Comfortable little place, friendly staff and cozy! The bar staff are friendly and polite.
Review 56:Fairly basic room, OK for an overnight stop but would be a bit too small for an extended stay.
Review 57:Nice bar. Excellent breakfast. Good parking. Motel type block separate from Pub.
Review 58:Television wasn't working on arrival,a lovely lady (Rosie) tried to sort it but couldn't. We were given another one but unfortunately had to wait over 3 hours-Not good when you have a teenager missing Saturday night tv! The room was cold as the radiators were turned off and took ages to warm up. Bathroom radiator not working at all so was too cold to use the shower. No Wi-Fi in the room.
Review 59:Staff all very friendly and accommodating. Room was very nicely decorated and beds very comfortable. We had a lovely evening meal in the restaurant and breakfast was good too.
Review 60:The room was a little dirty and the internet connection was very slow.
Review 61:The breakfast was very good. The staff was very friendly. (When I could find them.)
Review 62:Freezing cold breakfast room - should have eaten in bar perhaps. Wifi great in pub, but useless in room Duvet too small and not very warm
Review 63:Quality of food was really splendid, yummy! Staff are an asset to the place. Well located for the A1 next morning
Review 64:tiny room, towels old, value for money not in it. Surprised at cost in retrospect. Staff very friendly though.
Review 65:convenience to parking and single level accomodation
Review 66:the doors and walls need sound proofing. at 1am some other guests returned. they weren't loud but we could hear their conversation like they were in our room. woke us all up.
Review 67:Food was excellent and great value for money. A short car ride from lightwater valley.
Review 68:lack of a bedside light. Shortage of hand towels.
Review 69:Quality and price of food both for dinner and breakfast. Staff could not have been more obliging.excellent bath towels.
Review 70:The room was tiny. One twin bed was so lumpy and that I had to pad the mattress with three pillows in order to get any sleep. The curtain was inadequate to keep the security light outside from lighting up the room. The shower jets were blocked so one big jet of water only came out. There was no exhaust fan (broken for some time by its appearance) or window in the bathroom. Compared with many other pubs and B&Bs we stayed in, this was bad value. We hope some good maintenance will quickly improve the accommodation which lets down the rest of the hotel.
Review 71:The staff were very friendly and courteous and the food in the pub was fantastic.
Review 72:MINOR THING - NO BEDSIDE LIGHT SWITCH
Review 73:ONLY STAYED FOR THE NIGHT WHILST PASSING THROUGH. THE FULL ENGLISH BREAKFAST WAS WONDERFUL AND THE DEAL GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY. IDEALLY LOCATED ON THE MAIN ROAD, SO EASY TO FIND. THE STAFF WERE VERY FRIENDLY
Review 74:Room very small up stairs while construction workers had ground floor rooms in courtyard. Room was dark and not cleaned but could not complain as owner was not available and told us to pay next morning but the amount was deducted overnight and the cleaner said there was no receipt left. We felt we had been pushed into this tiny room as construction workers took priority. bathroom needed thorough cleaning there was no mirror and no surface as chest of drawers had tv and cups on. Would not recommend or stay again-breakfast waitress sullen and only pleasant to construction workers - we did not sleep as we felt uncomfortable, room so small we had to open bathroom door to squeeze through - feel very let down!!!
Review 75:availability of evening meals easy to find
Review 76:Could have done with an iron but I'm sure if I'd asked for one then I'd have been offered one
Review 77:Food was very good Comfort Facilities in room Costs Helpful staff
Review 78:Would like a better light in the room. Was unable to read by the main and only light. A bedside lamp to read by would have been great.
Review 79:Made to feel at home straight away. The staff are most helpful, the food is good and very reasonably priced and, above all, pets are welcome
Review 80:the person next door had 2 dogs that woke us up at 6am with their barking - not what you want on holiday.
Review 81:the room was clean and spacious. there was tea and coffee, but the cups weren't so clean. The price was excellent
Review 82:The room was very small. Two people trying to move around the room constantly bumped into each other. One hanger in wardrobe, cheap furnishing and nowhere to put anything in bathroom. More like a bunk room than a hotel. The staff tried hard but seemed somewhat demoralized. The overall impression was of an absentee owner whose sole concern was maximising profit at the expense of guests and staff.
Review 83:Reasonably modern purpose built annex to a pub. Comfortable and clean. Close to the railway station (about 200m) for people arriving by train. 15 minutes from the A1(M) motorway by car.
Review 84:The decor would benefit from a fresh lick of paint
Review 85:Staff were friendly and helpful. The large room was clean and the dogs were made welcome.Parking was free and observable from bedroom window . The breakfast. was excellent. It was the best value for money I have had this year
Review 86:Room light was too dim to read by. Broken electric socket plate. No coat hangers, only two skirt/trouser hangers. No coat hooks for outdoor coats. No towel rails. No mirror near an electric socket for a hair dryer. No chairs in the room. No bedside light switch or lights. No curtain over the door window to block the (summer) daylight. No hair dryer. The showerhead had been a good one but the mechanism was broken. Could be replaced with a simple one. TV was much too small to be seen from two out of the three beds. No shampoo. No hand towels. No working extractor fan in the shower room. Waited an hour from sitting down for our evening meal to be served.
Review 87:Very friendly staff. Very clean room. Comfortable beds. Good size triple room. Very good breakfast. Very good Evening meal. Beer selection good. Good private parking at rear. Plenty of tea and coffee.
