Reviews for YHA Dufton

Review 1:Bathrooms although adequate and reasonably clean could do with updating. Although, having said that for the money, you could not really expect much more

Review 2:Exceptionally good value with a very welcoming and friendly host who went out of his way to make sure all guests felt comfortable

Review 3:There was nothing I didn't like, I would stay here again and again!

Review 4:It is in absolutely draw dropping location, quiet and peaceful, really friendly staff and lovely old building. I loved it! Was very welcoming and felt like a home from home.

Review 5:The only problem we had was trouble finding this hostel in the dark. We knew that Dufton is a very small village so assumed we would have no trouble finding it. Unfortunately, arriving in the dark (admittedly, after check-in was closed so we couldn't phone staff) the hostel sign is very small and unlit.

Review 6:The manager (Simon) and staff could not have been warmer or kinder. The bed was comfy and the duvets and pillows appear quite new. We would gladly return, especially now that we know how to find the place!

Review 7:Elliot was the perfect host to me on my arrival, anticipating my needs in my period of distress after losing myself on the trail. He subtly allowed me to maintain my independence and stepped in where required.

Review 8:I didn't realise it would be bunk beds never stayed at a hostel before . It was our own fault but I took top bunk ended up covered in bruises !!!!

Review 9:Lovely village spotless good size room

Review 10:Nothing.

Review 11:Made to feel very welcome by staff from off. Room comfortable and facilities excellent. Special mention to Elliot who came to room when he finished his shift to say goodbye as we were off next morning. Don't over look this yha for lake district. Its only 30 mins away.

Review 12:The helpfulness and friendliness of the young man on staff. The location was fairly close to the Lake District where all the hostels seemed to be booked out. Dutton was a pleasant little village

Review 13:Having to pay £138 for a two night stay on my own in a 4 bed room.

Review 14:Being able to shelter before opening times. The layout and rooms, very cosy. the friendliness of the temporary warden

Review 15:Movement sensors on the lights in the bathrooms; be warned, if you stand still in the shower (or sit still on the loo) you will be plunged into darkness!

Review 16:It's a lovely location; our room had a view across the village green to the north Pennines. There is a well-stocked kitchen, basic supplies in case you forgot your own, nice places to sit and eat, a bike shed, a lovely garden. The staff are friendly and helpful. YHA facilities tend towards the basic, but they are all clean and in good condition, bunk beds didn't wobble, loos didn't smell.

Review 17:Rooms are far too small (me and my 6' tall 17 year old son). The beds were too short and creaked. Even the separate loo was an incredibly tight fit.

Review 18:Staff, cleanliness and location

Review 19:Nothing

Review 20:The friendliness of the place and staff. The location was great, will be back for leisure - walking. Wonderful breakfast set you up for the day. It felt comfortable and homely.

Review 21:we spent two hours to go there (but it must be a problem with the reading of our map...). And the night was too hot (but the weather was very good, and unexpected, so we couldn't avoid it).

Review 22:the kindness and attention of Simon to get things good for everybody. The whole environment (nature, the pub just near the YHA...). Breakfast. The location (bedroom, eating room). The games for everyone. The garden. The common room was so pleasant ! We'll get back there as soon as we can !

Review 23:It felt a bit like entering a sanctuary. Couple in charge runs a place with great sense of dignity and take pride in the work they do. To reach this remote location we drove on narrow roads through beautiful scenery and old villages and towns. The effort to maintain the character of these old places is evident, and deserves high praise.

Review 24:Wish the log fire had been on

Review 25:The location and the very freindlly manager / chef. Welcoming and produced excellent good value meals.

Review 26:Really helpful and friendly staff. Lovely location opposite a pub serving excellent food. Really good with the kids (age 2 and 5).

Review 27:Heating in the room was too high.

Review 28:Everything.

Review 29:The warm and friendly atmosphere, very helpful and flexibel, friendly staff. Cozy, well furnished rooms, great food.

Review 30:Shower unit door faulty. No television. Drab and needs modernising, looks well used.

Review 31:Breakfast.

Review 32:Small friendly hostel. We only had one night so limited review. One comfy chair in room would help for when children in bed and need to sit in room

Review 33:Simon, the Warden, consulted us on menu for evening meal, breakfast and packed lunch. He really took trouble to treat us as individuals.

Review 54:Location on Pennine way, friendliness of staff

Review 55:tea cold at breakfast as was breakfast

Review 56:nothing really

Review 57:mostly everything

Review 58:The Hostel, facilities & Staff were excellent however in our room there was a considerable amount of mould growing on the wall next to one of the bunk beds.We only stayed for the one night as booked. I would have mentioned it had we stayed longer but I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

Review 59:Bed and Breakfast in nearby hotels and B and Bs are all about £75-80 per couple. This means a large room with private bathroom and double or twin beds. The YHA, for a double bunk room and breakfast was £63 per couple. Shared facilities, narrow bunks and you have to make your own bed. I thought that was actually quite expensive for the facilities compared to a hotel.

Review 60:Very comfortable and homely. Lovely old house. Beautiful garden. Very good value, simple 3 course dinner. Well cooked breakfast. Very helpful and friendly staff. Excellent tea and coffee making facilities.

Review 61:i have stayed in dufton youth hostel and have always found it to be excellent.the meals are very good and the warden could not be more helpfull.all in all a great place to be.

Review 62:Nothing!

Review 63:We stayed three nights during half-term and they were the best nights sleep we had in our week away! Great beds, fabulous open fire, games and we even made a start on a jigsaw. Perfect base for walking, excellent pub across the road, thoughtful and helpful warden.

Review 64:Timer switch in shower room. Shower on a raised platform. No window in shower room. Covers on sofas - undercovers needed fixing and overcovers cleaning.

Review 65:Warm, comfortable and good food

Review 66:Cold self serve breakfast a bit pricey - cheaper to order an extra round of sandwiches.

Review 67:Perfect location for an overnight on the Pennine Way. Warm welcome and helpful friendly staff who accommodated my need for an early start.

Review 68:The board forming the foot of the bunk bed stopped me for being able tolie straight out or roll over in my sleep without waking myself up (I am6ft 4ins tall, but this would be an issue for anyone over 6ft, I guess).

Review 69:Value for money and the great breakfast.

Review 70:The miserable publicans in the pub opposite, has Thank you gone out of fashion?

Review 71:Ideal cycling and walking base, good food, very quiet. Wardens friendly and welcoming, a lovely family.

Review 72:We thought we were getting a twin room as it said on booking.com but in fact there were no twin rooms only a bunk bedded room. As neither of us wanted to climb up (being mature) my husband slept on the floor.

Review 73:The friendliness of staff and other guests. Good food and lovely surroundings. Liked the common sitting area with books.

Review 74:showers not working, small kitchen, delivery van driver leaving engine running at 0700, awkward to reach without car.

Review 75:friendliness (staff and other visitors), informality, good breakfast, nice village with good pub. (NB: please call me Tony!)

Review 76:Friendly and helpful staff Excellent evening meal Perfect stop for Pennine Way
