Reviews for The Nelson Hotel

Review 1:breakfast was very poor it would have fitted on a saucer easily had to wait for toast by which time the rest was almost cold. this spoiled an otherwise enjoyable stay.

Review 2:lovely room in a nice location friendly staff

Review 3:Not particularly didn't like, but no room in dining room for breakfast, sat in bar.

Review 4:Welcoming and friendly. Central Seafront. Clean.Jolly entertainment. Parking. Large warm room.

Review 5:Only thing was breakfast wasn't consistent first day was two slices of bacon second day only one.

Review 6:Enjoyed our weekend away very much.enjoyed our entertainment. Will be booking again

Review 7:Broken lampshade and curtain falling off :( a bit too hot.

Review 8:Very good service and food :) felt very safe with our young family. Excellent view to wake up to :) very clean and tidy. Nice and warm for the children.

Review 9:Window left wide open when we arrived so room very cold - freezing outside

Review 10:Good location despite the weather Friendly helpful staff Good choice at breakfast Clean, comfortable suite

Review 11:Our room was a little tired on the decoration side but acceptable.

Review 12:The staff where very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good and service excellent. Room was clean and bathroom tidy and warm.

Review 13:Quite limited choice of drinks in bar area. Service a bit sluggish at breakfast and the specials were unavailable. Clean overall but decor tired (and that's quite polite) in some public areas and our bathroom.

Review 14:Excellent location with great sea view. Staff helpful and friendly. Under £50 for a twin room (including breakfast my young daughter and I) during half-time can't be beaten

Review 15:Nothing at all.

Review 16:The staff were so fantastic, nothing was too much trouble. The food was just out of this world, breakfast cooked just how you like it, and served hot in less than two minutes from ordering, now that's service...!

Review 17:The only thing is that they could use some new matresses, those old spring ones they have are not very good for me with back problems but still they were OK.

Review 18:We liked the view and the proximity to the beach and the grosvenor casino wich was the reason for our visit to great Yarmouth. The staff specially Tony in the night shift that was very helpful, polite and friendly

Review 19:Very dated decor - very small room - very old furniture - dirty - mouldy shower , paint peeling off ceiling - felt unsafe as a woman travelling alone - woken up by drunk men falling over in hall and into prord doors - didnt sleep all night - arrived late no satisfactory offer of food :-(

Review 20:Bedding was clean & breakfast restaurant was pleasant nice views and friendly staff . Chris on reception had a cheerful greeting .

Review 21:Carpets in the rooms needed a better hoover but everywhere was clean overall

Review 22:Lovely hotel in a great location. We had 3 rooms and they had everything we needed and more. Lovely breakfast. Friendly staff.

Review 23:Didn't use the lift so 3rd floor was a trek, usual seaside leaning stairs the higher you go. Breakfast disappointed a little compared to some others but arrived hot and promptly.

Review 24:Wasn't sure I was in the right place at first, the Nelson is massive and rather nice for the price. Staff were attentive and helpful, room was very spacious and comfortable.

Review 25:The decor of the room could do with upgrading a bit.

Review 26:Fantastic value for money, breakfast very good, family room basic but clean and shower good, also great location.

Review 27:Breakfast was disappointing could do with taking a look at other hotels toast burnt beacon cold no tomatoes only juice not give a choice of toast just plonked on the table

Review 28:The sea view room was large and we had a great view

Review 29:The breakfast was poor, luke warm with a cheap and nasty sausage.

Review 30:Location was good, the room was warm and comfortable with plenty of tea and coffee. The staff are there greatest asset, polite, welcoming and friendly.

Review 31:The chef was rude as im gluten free I asked the chef what I would eat onthe menu he said all of it when I know for a fact I could not and thensaid I could have the gravy as it was vegateran er I dont think he didnot get it and the bed was as hard as nails I had to get 4 pillows outthe wardrobe to sleep on and the noise out side was ridiculous wheresome one was putting rubbish out slamimg the lid then slamimg the backdoor and when you flushed to toilet it sounded like the pipes wheregoing to come through the floor . The wall paper was coming off the walland the heating was on fall blast and you could not turn it down.

Review 32:Both the 2 tv's in our family room had very poor signal meaning that we couldn't web watch a basic channel such as itv, for us once the children went to bed this was an issue because we had nothing to do. We went to make a coffee after a long day out and discovered the inside if kettle was mouldy! We took it to reception and asked for another which didn't ever arrive. We knew there was evening entertainment but we didn't realise his was right underneath our room which was on the first floor, this was very loud and could be heard very clearly until 11pm, not ideal with children. Breakfast was small and toast was cold. A meme bet if staff was openly complaining to guests that they were under staffed and over booked. Faulty towers springs to mind!

Review 33:Great location & plenty of parking outside hotel

Review 34:No bad experiences

Review 35:Good location, some areas have been newly refurbished as was the room I had, all clean apart from the carpets, probably they are next in line to be refurbished. Carpet in a bathroom is a pet hate of mine. Sea themed dining room was pleasant, breakfast was unimpressive.

Review 36:Like many large and old Hotels ,you can see that in it's hay day it was a Grand luxury place to stay ,the character is still there, but the up keep is so expensive the place has become tired and appears neglected to a degree ..

Review 37:Nice clean ,warm and friendly Hotel ,the view from our room was good ,ample free parking and a great sea front location ..

Review 38:The location was excellent with the beach and Sealife centre opposite and the Time & Tide Museum only a 5 minute walk in the other direction. Staff were very friendly and our twin room was a lovely size; I don't think I've ever stayed in a hotel with such a big bathroom :-)

Review 39:My brother was not given the suite he had ordered (on the sea front side) but one at the back. The loud radio playing in the breakfast room. The coffee was not very good

Review 40:the comfortable beds and the bath with lovely hot water. The breakfast porridge and the kippers were very good indeed. The breakfast staff were speedy and friendly

Review 41:Breakfast time was a little disorganised with lots of tables not cleared away. There was 3 members of staff on duty and not many people in for breakfast so the tables could have been cleared.

Review 42:The staff were fantastic, really friendly and helpful. The location is brilliant, opposite the beach and just far enough away from the main hustle and bustle to be quiet at night. The view from our room looked over the beach and was stunning.

Review 43:The whole hotel was very dated, dirty, with odd smells lingering around. The room we were in was awful, the bed and carpets were dreadful and the bathroom was disgusting. It smelt like stale drains and the carpet continued around the bath?! Also only one of the lights worked in the bedroom which was extremely dim so when it got dark we could hardly see. Do not stay here, an absolute rip off, I would pay no more than £15 to stay in this dive. We went home as we couldn't face staying.

Review 44:The location of the hotel is close to the seafront if that is where you want to be.

Review 45:nothing

Review 46:The surprise for us for our diamond wedding anniversary by the hotel staff was brilliant and they were all so caring and pleasant . Entertainment was very good and we also had a room upgrade for free.

Review 47:Don't come to this town: boring, quite a few industrialbuildings/areas, the rest is bingo/casino/24x7 bar/pub -this isn't the place to be, even though it's on the sea coast.Had to book this because everything around Norwich (for the Sundownfestival) was booked out.

Review 48:This is probably one of the best hotels in this town. But it is thewrong town to come to.

Review 49:WIFI was only available in the bar area. There was no evening entertainment even though they state there is.... one person who works reception and the bar all evening.

Review 50:friendly helpful staff, good location, room was nice size

Review 51:Tired inside but clean. Breakfast very poor paid for B&B for 2 nights but after the first morning and nearly every guest complaning about something to dp with their breakfast we ate out on the second.

Review 52:Great location with sea view. A traditional hotel in a traditional seaside. Very restful.

Review 53:When we arrived in room discovered we were a single bed missing and had to make one up ourselves as the girl hadn't done one before.

Review 54:Great location, but hotel really needs updating. The wooden windows are in bad state of repair, especially our bathroom, it had tissue stuffed in a hole and was broken.

Review 55:dirty ,scruffy rooms. dirty bar with dirty mirrors and thick dust on bottles, dirty carpets, fart fan in toilet covered up with masking tape, when checking out receptionist was playing on mobile phone could not find time to speak to me just gave a grunt. hotel do not deserve customers.

Review 56:nothing really

Review 57:I DID FEEL THE MATTRESS WAS PROBABLY COMING TO THE END OF ITS COMFORT LEVEL. THE SPRINGS COULD BE FELT WHICH IS NOT GOOD FRO A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP000

Review 58:THE LOCATION WAS GREAT .THE STAFF WERE VERY PLEASANT

Review 59:Dingy room, nothing like the photographs. Unappealing public facilities. Wi-fi in public areas but not in room.

Review 60:Excellent location, and quiet at night. Free parking, though must search for a spot.

Review 61:no parking available. Parked half mile away, but was told parking would be available at 3am. Windows did not fit so wind whistling all night

Review 62:Had a lift

Review 63:The mattress on the bed was very thin, so when sat on you could feel the base of the bed (hard) The traditional breakfast could have been bigger as I really like my food. But was still nice.

Review 64:The staff were very acomadating and helpful, Especially the deputy manager! I would recommend this hotel as an ideal stay! Great location.

Review 65:The hot tap on the sink was temperamental worked when it decided to work couldn't have a shower cos you either had a cold shower or scald yourself trying to have a hot one. The bed that me and my husband slept in was very small and very uncomfortable so didn't get much sleep. The breakfast was ok one of my children is fussy on what he eats and what he does eat wasn't on the menu so he only had cereal that's all the service was poor we seated ourselfs while they stood around gossiping and when we finally got seen the lady was a bit rude and only spoke to the coach load that came in which was a bit rude as soon as we had our breakfast we checked out and carried on with the rest of the day before going home.

Review 66:We arrived at the hotel and checked in served by a gentlemen who told us the easiest way to our room via the lift when we got to the room we had a lovely view of the sea. The breakfast wasn't to bad I enjoyed it but there wasn't enough for the children to have.

Review 67:Was really looking forward to the breakfast but unfortunately the toast had green mould, very disappointing.

Review 68:The room was excellent more than big enough for very satisfied.

Review 69:Bed was very hard so didn't sleep well at all. TV would be better on wall facing end of bed as had to crook neck to watch. No evening entertainment in bar which was disappointing.

Review 70:Friendly staff, nice breakfast and good location. Good having lots of hot water which enabled using the bath. Lovely soak....the room was exceptionally clean and lovely having tea and coffee facilities refreshed daily.

Review 71:a certain tattiness in the bedroom and the inability to open the warm water tap of the shower

Review 72:Location, price, breakfast and staff are really satisfactory

Review 73:The beds crippled me and were extreamly unconfortable. The room was tiny. The wifi didnt work in our room on the 3rd floor in attict.food was horrible.the tv didnt work the hotel ruined the holiday

Review 74:Staff were mostly friendly and helpfull

Review 75:not bad but mattress past its sellby ,turned it to get comfy sleep otherwise no problems, look forward to new mattress on next visit.

Review 76:location, friendly staff ,clean room, good breakfast.

Review 77:Complained on the first night as our room smelt of urine. It was coming from the toilet area but having stayed there 4 days the room still smelt on the last day. Not pleasant when you have 2 small children.

Review 78:Staff are very friendly.

Review 79:Run Down, Dirty room and dirty cups every day in breakfast room & room. Repeated complaints went un-noticed. Very poor waitress service : clueless.

Review 80:Free Parking. Left 2 days early

Review 81:Had to wait a little whole for the hot water to come on.

Review 82:Staff were friendly and behind helpful. Location brilliant and the view! We were in rooms 200 and 202 and they had a beautiful sea view!!!!

Review 83:Poor Staff - did not thank us for staying or ask us if we had a good stay. Poor cleanliness - bedroom floor not hoovered properly there was still hairs and dirt on the carpet; the carpet along the side of the bath was hanging off; the room had a funny smell; the corridors smelt and was not clean; there was a centipede in the bath; wall paper was hanging off the walls. There was no plug sockets near the mirror in the bedroom which is inconvenient for women wanting to do their hair. The room was a 'Junior Suit' which was displayed to have a small sofa and be more slightly more spacious than a double room yet, on our previous stay we stayed in a double room which was much cleaner and far better well presented compared to the 'Junior Suit' - it was not worth the extra £14.

Review 84:Location - everything is walking distance and the hotel is right on the front. Free Parking

Review 85:Only that we had booked 2 family rooms next to each other. Rang to confirm and said 112 and 114 but when we got there they had changed it to further away from each other.

Review 86:Very near the sea. Free parking.

Review 87:I only booked the single room for one night excellent value would stay again a good size room large bathroom plenty of coffee an milk telly worked defo recommend.

Review 88:the hotel was clean, i like it but the hotel is old,and we got the room with balcony, i realy wish to go in there, but it was locked and not clean(full of grass)

Review 89:we like that everything very close outside from hotel

Review 90:Due to water leakage room not available and manager moved us to guest house 100 yards away. Were very happy there and would not go to Nelson Hotel in the future

Review 91:This hotel is very dated and in need of refurbishment (light hanging off wall jacuzzi bath operating butting all loose dirty net curtains that look like they have never been cleaned) I could go on but will take to long

Review 92:Stairs were a little tight.

Review 93:A warm and friendly welcome, very clean and comfortable if a little dated. Perfectly located across the road from the beach, in between the town and the pleasure beach. Would definitely recommend.

Review 94:Where old meets new. This hotel probably depends on what room you get ours (228) was spacious but very grubby carpets needed replacing and a good hoover everywhere. Windows were old sash so only one stayed open. Towels small but sheets and towels clean. Breakfast was ok but the continental side was left uncovered and chipped jug Hotel corridor on 2nd floor was also grubby could do with a good hoover stains on wallpaper.

Review 95:Location by the sea was good. Had room back of hotel so reasonable quite apart from other guests and seagulls! Breakfast was just the right size. Friendly staff.

Review 96:Asked for rooms next to each other as have 3 children and the family room only caters for 2 adults and 1 child, the other room was down the corridor and round the corner through a fire door!!!! Not near and this meant the adults had to split up to slepp in seperate rooms with the children.

Review 97:The location was great, within walking distance of all facilities. Hotel staff friendly and helpful.

Review 98:Bathroom was dirty had hairs in bath and hairs on the shower handle Could only get a few channels on TV

Review 99:Comfy bed Big room Lovely staff Value for money

Review 100:Wifi could do with a boost ... Only just about extends to the rooms

Review 101:Superb location overlooking the seafront, excellent value for money and extremely helpful, pleasant staff

Review 102:Lovely clean room. Kids had proper beds not just bunk beds. Very clean and friendly staff. Bar and wifi a brilliant extra. Breakfast perfectly cooked. We will be coming back.

Review 103:double bed which had a slope in it, was to small for two adults to sleep in, luckily there was a spare single bed in my daughters room for my partner to sleep in.

Review 104:nice hotel in a good location .friendly, helpful staff.

Review 105:The hotel was lovely but required some much needed TLC. It was clean and well presented but could do with some new paint work and repairs to the wall paper in some areas. It didn't stop us from having a great weekend.

Review 106:Our suite was excellent and the staff were lovely. The location was perfect; not only for the town itself and the seafront but also for surrounding areas of interest. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Review 107:Hair dryer you get from reception maybe keep one in each room all the time - bathroom need updating carpet on floor maybe use tiles overall hotel very good value for money an would recommend !!

Review 108:Location was brilliant, room good value for money, bed very comfy, staff very pleasant an approachable

Review 109:Room could do with updating but was adequate very small for a double but wevunderstand that renovations and upgrading is in progress

Review 110:all staff were friendly esp chris the assistant manager nothing was too much trouble prices in bar were very reasonable and dinner in the restaurant very good

Review 111:the fact that we didn't originally book for breakfast as well as bed but no problem second day went in a lovely bright and airy sea facing room lovely start to the day.

Review 112:staff were friendly and helpful small chocolate egg under tea cup on easter sunday what a lovely thought

Review 113:only thing was the suite we stayed in did not have a shower or even a hand held shower in jaquizzi bath,to wash hair in, not a major thing but would have just topped the suite off , plus a mini safe in room, maybee a good idea. yes a few cracks here and there but and old building, , plus a mini fridge .

Review 114:staff where great , suite was nice, bfst was great. nice warm room,

Review 115:the rooms are getting shabby and need maintenance.could not get a wifi signal in my room.

Review 116:the hotel is on the sea front, free parking outside in special bays, don't park on the main street.some staff friendly enough.

Review 117:A piece of carpet stuck onto the side of the bath! !f only someone with a bit of go in them could cut off the frayed edges! The very loose sash window over the radiator let in so much cold and let out so much heat(and money)

Review 118:Nice welcome on arrival. Lovely big room with sea views, very good singer in the evening.Excellent breakfast served by friendly staff. Will certainly stay again during the summer.

Review 119:No tv in bedroom , no refrigerator and being a suite we expected bath robes and slippers .

Review 120:The huge bed in the huge bedroom , the seperate lounge with sofa`s and large tv , huge jacuzzi bath in again a huge bathroom . Large suite with lots of comfort and warmth .

Review 121:The hotel in general looks tired and could do with a lick of white paint to make it look fresh again! The mattress was really lumpy and uncomfortable!

Review 122:The hotel was lovely and welcoming! The staff were lovely and the walk to my room was pleasant! The room was lovely and had a nice sea view too! Was given complimentary hair gel and shower gel!

Review 123:hotel was nice and warm and very comfortable also i think the mans name was john was very friendly and helpful and was always available to help you . also offered a 24 hour bar which was good , i will definitely stay at the nelson hotel again when i vist yarmouth next

Review 124:The room was cold ,quite big and on the front corner and hard to warm up (small radiator). Also shower did not work very well.

Review 125:Lovely view of sea and a great location ( family we we're visiting live 5 minutes away ) .Manger was very helpful .

Review 126:The room although inexpensive was not in great shape , the bathroom ceiling was peeling the shower was very low on pressure The bed was very lumpy although the bed linen was fine. The Kettle was so furred up that I can not imagine that it was ever descaled . I think the hotel could be very nice but is in need of a major refurb. I was booked for 2 nights but decided to find another hotel.

Review 127:The staff were very nice indeed And the Deputy manger Carey Ann did offer to change my roo but it was late at night.

Review 128:Room was far too cold. Bath towels are rather small. On the plus side a heater was swiftly provided. We returned from a late dinner to find the radiators had gone cold. Therefore the heater remained on all night as it was a particularly cold December night

Review 129:Staff, friendly & helpful. Requested heater and hair dryer were provided instantly. As a listed building the Nelson has plenty of character, the downside to that is the floor to ceiling metal frame single glazed windows which let in the extreme cold. Would love to have that room (100) during the summer season as it overlooks the sea but is far enough from the hustle and bustle of night life to be peaceful.

Review 130:Unfortunately found the bed too hard. Also would be nice to have a comfortable chair in room

Review 131:Location, staff, cleanliness. Lovely sea view from room. Plenty of tea, coffee and milk in room.

Review 132:Small television and too far away from bed. Room needs new mattress. Coffee and tea facilities needed cleaning.

Review 133:Friendly service. Good parking. Nice sized room with good view of the sea front. No noise overnight.

Review 134:matteress bit lumpy shower was just a trickle

Review 135:Bar open 24 hrs Room was massive Very warm welcome on arrival We paid very cheap and got more than we expected

Review 136:I recently stayed at the Nelson hotel with my husband, we were a group of 11 friends on a weekend break to Yarmouth. The hotel were very accommodating allowing us to check in earlier. The rooms are a bit dated by great valve for money. The staff were all very pleasant, helpful and friendly. Breakfast was lovely and just the right amount to set you off for the day. I would definetly recommend this hotel to others and would book again if returning to Great Yarmouth.

Review 137:I was in room 101 decor was poor but my main concern was that if a fire had started in the hallway our windows were, screwed shut with no possible escape, very worrying indeed

Review 138:Friendly staff, late bar , television on view if needed

Review 139:The only negative I could give is that the decor is a little 'tired' in places.

Review 140:The staff were very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble.

Review 141:Breakfast was poor - especially for the price charged. Had breakfast the first day and then ate out after that ... had far more and paid quite a bit less...

Review 142:Excellent all round value for money. Will definitely come back again.
