Reviews for Park Hotel
Review 1:The coat hangers in the bedroom wardrobe were a disaster. Most of them were for a child's clothing. Couldn't seem to get any hot water at the hand basin.
Review 2:My stay was only for one night for which it was adequate. Very pleasant young lady greeted us on arrival. The waitress at breakfast was also very pleasant. The hotel was warm and clean
Review 3:The wallpaper was coming away from the walls in the room and there were many large areas of peeling paint. The room décor was extremely dated and tired. However the staff were very friendly the view is outstanding and our room overlooked the peer.
Review 4:The room was too hot at night for the dog so had to get up in the middle of the night to take dog out. With the windows open traffic noise kept me awake. The seal on the bathroom screen was mouldy. Shower gel sachets were not replaced each day and forgot to ask at reception.Did not take any shampoo as usually get this at b and b's.The bed springs made a noise when turning over to the annoyance of my husband. Window sill needed a lick of paint. Needed some TLC to bring up to satisfaction.Otherwise had a nice break
Review 5:Good location and able to take the dog.Staff friendly
Review 6:We booked for one of the rooms to be a disabled single ground floor room but were given a second floor twin room as they already had someone in that room and given no other option. Booked for a taxi for 7.30 to attend a surprise birthday party they forgot to book it. Asked for 3 cream teas with one with a coffee charged for the tea and coffee but only given the coffee and waited 40 mins for it all as they had again forgot
Review 7:Food good
Review 8:This hotel dates back to victorian times,as does some of the decor. Sadly ,unless they spend a considerable amount of money on bringing this into the 21st century, it will never attract custom.. very old fashioned ,and a bit smelly in places along the corridors. Have put it down to experience, but wont be back sadly.
Review 9:Room was changed on arrival,as had booked a disabled room by mistake. They kindly gave me a Double room overlooking the sea. Room was clean as was all bedding, and nice warm room. Breakfast was ok although at 8am nothing laid out cereals juice etc
Review 10:Park Hotel has a wonderfully calm and cheerful ambience. The staff are friendly and always willing to help with any concerns. It is an older hotel so rooms are basic but clean and the bed is comfortable. Always plenty of tea/coffee/milk supplies. Meals served in dining room are tasty and plentiful. Park is situated on the Esplanade and a short walk from Paignton town. I extended my stay and will definitely return.
Review 11:Although this hotel looks a little "tired" it does appear to being tidied-up bit by bit and it is certainly characterful. Location is perfect for town, beaches and railway station and I found the staff cheerful and friendly. Out-of-season prices are very good value and I am seriously considering rebooking in the near future. No idea why people moan about the prayer meetings, they're not compulsory and are held in an out-of-the-way room.
Review 12:The hotel is in a very poor state, are shower door was hanging off the hose was split and wall socket loose, mould and marks on the walls, pipes sticking out of wall in corridor, the breakfast was cold and a very slow service due to skeleton staff.i really dont know how this has passes any safety inspection.
Review 13:the local beach
Review 14:Dog friendly hotel- the staff were really helpful, giving Merlin a bowl of fresh water whilst I ate my breakfast in the sun lounge - they went above and beyond with their kindness and understanding - thankyou
Review 15:They couldn't find us on the their books and after 20 minutes just gave us a spare room, shower wasn't very powerful
Review 16:Great location, great view from room, comfy bed, good breakfast
Review 17:Right on the Esplanade, reasonably close to the station, quaint. Good wifi, good breakfast, very comfortable room with a good view. Definitely suited to older folk without children
Review 18:Following my overnight stay at the Park Hotel on the 29th August 2015 I am driven to highlight how dreadful and dangerous my stay with was.I booked 2 single rooms via Booking.com, one room for myself and the other for my Son. At the time of booking I was very pleased with the competitive price and thought no more of it.Upon check-in to the hotel I was greeted by a host of pleasant yet inappropriately placed pensioners who were confused and rather inefficient, this however I could overlook. My Son and I were escorted to our rooms by an affable man by the name of Ted. Although the hotel appeared dated and musty, I was still able to rise above the shabby state of décor and unpleasant odour of yesteryear, I comforted myself with the knowledge that we were only staying for one night and it hadn’t cost a fortune.I put my key in the bedroom door and could barely move the lock, eventually and with great force I unlocked the door and prised it open, it was firmly warped up against the door frame. When I walked into the room, I was taken aback with horror, was I entering a prison cell for the night?I was instantly hit with the smell of damp, you cannot disguise such a smell by opening the window! There were damp patches all over the room and the inside wall surrounding the window was flaking away from years of damp damage. Here is a list of other issues I found:· Broken window latch· Faulty taps· No pictures on the walls· Terrible smell of musty damp on the bedding· Old batteries in the remote control· No health and safety and fire notices to readIf there had have been a fire I would’ve had no choice than to climb out of the window and risk my life on the moss ridden roof below.I have subsequently read an article in the local newspaper relating to the health and safety and fire inspections carried out recently condemning the hotel as a ticking time bomb.
Review 19:Room was very shabby with draw front missing from chest of draws. Terrible smell in the hotel. Mould and dirt in shower. Nice from outside but dated inside.it was more like and old folks home
Review 20:Position of hotel was excellent.
Review 21:the hotel was very disappointing, very old looking needs a good refurbishment, no bar, no entertainment, very musky smell in the corridors. Room was very old looking.
Review 22:the hotel position is excellent. The bathroom was quite nice.
Review 23:This hotel is in an excellent location but is badly in need of a total refurbishment. It is tired, the décor is appalling with wallpaper peeling and lack of paint everywhere. This is such a shame as it could be so good. This needs to be advertised as a Christian Hotel also as there are prayer meetings each morning which we were not aware of.
Review 24:Had a sea view was the only plus point, curtains wouldn't close as curtain rail broken, no bar had to go out and get a takeaway drink as no alcohol after 8pm, room and furniture very dated, had unpleasant smell when walked into reception. Breakfast poor
Review 25:Sea view
Review 26:Could feel mattress springs and therefore didn't sleep very well, room cleanliness was ok, few repairs/redecoration needed in room and bathroom, continental breakfast choice was just a croissant and a very ripe banana. Selection should have been explained clearer
Review 27:Very friendly staff, excellent location, very good value for money, cooked breakfast was very nice, view was amazing, lots of different public rooms to relax in
Review 28:It was carnival week which we hadn't realised and the funfair was on the green right outside the hotel which was very noisy. This was not the hotel's fault and didn't really affect our stay.
Review 29:The location right on the esplanade was excellent. The staff very helpful and efficient. The cost was very reasonable and fair for what you get.
Review 30:Found the breakfast a bit oily.
Review 31:Excellent location and easy access to various tourist spots from the hotel. The view from the room out to the Pier was amazing.
Review 32:Fair in front blocked our view! But this was nothing to do with the hotel.
Review 33:Good location, friendly helpful staff, pleasant hotel steeped with an interesting history.
Review 34:Like most seaside resort hotels, very dated. 50 years ago this hotel would have been fantastic. Hopefully the investment will come to turn it back into its former glory!
Review 35:Staff very friendly. Breakfast good. Room and bed clean and comfortable. Free parking and location good. Right on the seafront.
Review 36:The hotel is good value for money and located very close to the beach. However, there was a noisy fair on when we visited. Plus the hotel is a little shabby. Staff vary in friendliness.
Review 37:Good value, convenient location and some nice food.
Review 38:The hotel looked and felt rather tired. One of our 3 rooms must have been near the hot water boiler because from 6am there was a lot of noise
Review 39:Slap bang on Paignton seafront so easy to walk about during the day and in the evening.
Review 40:The building looks very tired, and the breakfast was mediocre. Perhaps this is reflected in the price? I have limited mobility on stairs but didn't mention this when booking because their wasa lift. This went out of order on our second day so had to climb 3 flights of stairs and was still out of order when we left (only there 3 days)
Review 41:Good location, sea view. Just a minuet away from all main areas.
Review 42:Very shabby everywhere. Lift not working after fals fire alarm dirty bedding we had to request it was changed. Dirty shower old soap left in tray. Human hair in shower tray. Breakfast moderate . They maid a mistake saying our payment had not gone through, when I checked it had all we won't go back there
Review 43:View was excellent .
Review 44:Dinner on first night very poor and badly presented, fish and chips oven cooked and overdone with very poor choices we had only one meal,
Review 45:Bedrooms were fine
Review 46:Bed not good very shabby. Rooms dated and old. Chair in room broken.
Review 47:Great views and location free parking. Small servings but Good food.lovely dining area.
Review 48:Like traveling back in time , old building needing lots of expensive upkeep. Bedroom ceiling heavily stained from water leak above. Mattress that was so worn out as to be funny. Tinned tomatoes at breakfast !
Review 49:Large room, good breakfast given price, good location.
Review 50:Booked with a sea view,no sea view, view of bins.Tried to tell me they did not have to give me room as advertised, until I told them I hadn't driven 180 miles to sleep over their bins Guy then started to complain to me how hard it was to run a hotel -very Basil Fawlty.lol. Room not cleaned or bed made last night. No milk replenished in room,Toilet starting to smell. Carpet in room filthy. Breakfast service a shambles, one couple ignored two mornings running. Continually bringing wrong items to table, or not bringing items, having to keep asking to have this corrected, but after four days, still making the same stupid mistakes. Windows filthy, and about to drop out in room 60 plus year old sashes? glad it wasnt winter. Decor original 1970's liked by a lot of elderly folk. bit like an old peoples home, with authentic smells thrown in. Staff loved appologising, personally I would write things down if my memory was that bad, instead. Breakfast not really worth the hassle, not much of it, Butter left to melt to gloop in the sun ( and served up for the next 3 days, after being rechilled each night!). Small slice of bacon, nearly raw first morning, bit more cooked next morning, Like baked shoe leather the last morning. Trying not to think how many times it was reheated.Bubble an squeak for breakfast?? I kid you not.
Review 51:Staff very friendly, comfortable lounge areas, An amusing place to stay if a fan of Fawlty Towers. Breakfast service a great laugh.Never know what will turn up, (or not) to see two members of staff both turn up with baskets of toast, turn on there heels and march off when they realised I had toast, made me chuckle. Tea or coffee? you get the tea brought first, what ever you say.lol.
Review 52:No air conditioning so room got a little warm during my stay.
Review 53:Location was excellent being right in sea front with on-site parking. Some would say that it's in need of updating, but I prefer to have friendly helpful staff & a clean & tidy room which this hotel definitely provides. Can't fault the staff.
Review 54:The only outstanding memories were the size of the room (more suitable as a single) and the condition of the hotel itself which really could do with complete redecoration.
Review 55:The staff were pleasant, and even the new girl tried her best to help in the restaurant. The breakfast was served fresh and hot.
Review 56:I only wanted a single room but was given a battered family room with a dodgy lock on the door, a hot pipe running along the side of the room and a dirty kettle with a rusted element. The room was baking even with the window open and the beds were lumpy.
Review 57:There was a car parking space outside the hotel
