Reviews for Pier Hotel

Review 1:It was very noisy at night as taxis were waiting outside with engines running and people were coming out of disco. No hot water on Sunday morning and workman was walking up fire escape early morning when I was still in bed.

Review 2:We were upgraded and I had a sea view which was lovely. Breakfast was great.

Review 3:Internet was terribly slow. Staff on morning of departure not so great.....

Review 4:Receptionist on arrival was great. Nice bar with decent menu. Good breakfast.

Review 5:The room had paint peeling off the wall and ceiling the bathroom was large but there was a broken tile just small things really

Review 6:Lovely food pleasant staff lovely sea view comfortable and warm

Review 7:The bed was very worn you could see dips either side where it hasn't been turned/flipped in a very long time spent 1st night sleeping on the floor spoke to receptionist next day and asked for extra bedding to pad the bed up as I hate to complain and was delivered to the room immediately and she couldn't help enough mattress was turned and flipped much better however the manger was very helpful and also informed us the room would be out of use until he fixed this issue so can not complain as most helpful and apologetic

Review 8:Fantastic hotel with stunning views staff very happy at all times and very helpful and chatty very close to all local town centres. We had a balcony with our room fantastic to sit with a drink and watch the waves crashing. Room was clean and had more than the normal condiments and was a good temperature. Bathroom was also clean and had a very nice shower great water pressure. Lots complain of the noise from the nightclub although yes you can hear it it didn't bother me as the double glazing nearly blocked it all out and it's only people having fun so no issue to us. Rooms in reality are slightly smaller then the picture but still more than enough room and will definitely return to this hotel had an amazing weekend

Review 9:Paid for double room with a sea view but was a partial sea view. Obscured by railings and imitation plants

Review 10:Rooms a very high standard and food excellent

Review 11:This is a very very expensive place with lots of stairs and no lifts. If you want a sea view then be prepared to shell out for it. If i had left the booking to last minute then it would have been half the price. Limited breakfast buffet, cooked breakfast had a hair in it and scrambled eggs were burnt. Not in a very nice part of town.

Review 12:Room nicely appointed , but i expected a fridge in a premier room

Review 13:no TV for 2 days without straightforward acknowledgement--no telephone in room with connections to outside world

Review 14:sea view and position on sea front--lovely staff--fresh fruit at breakfast

Review 15:Room 303 was adequate and I enjoyed my stay but it would benefit from an upgrade or at least a few pieces of furniture being replaced. Bed was comfy though!

Review 16:Location - Staff - Breakfast - Service all spot on!

Review 17:Breakfast good but not so good on other meals, pie's far too salty and sauces very thick and overpowering.

Review 18:Room & Bathroom 5 star, excellent Extremely well equipped bar, lovely large range of products

Review 19:The drive in at night took us through parts of Great Yarmouth where I wondered if I was in a bad neighbourhood.

Review 20:The location is great for long walks and time on the beach.

Review 21:There was no entertainment for the guests on an evening, neither was there anywhere else

Review 22:We like the location of pier hotel, walking distance to the beach. The staff were ok, but could of been a little more helpful

Review 23:Only on this occasion we were woken early by someone trying to get someone up for work - presume they are contractors who stay - was annoying but unfortunate and reception said they would tell them to keep it down so couldn't ask for more than that. If not good on legs no lift!

Review 24:We love the location and staff are always helpful and friendly. Food is superb whether eating in restaurant or just in bar. We have been last 3 years and met a couple who have been going for last 20 but can see why!

Review 25:the cold breakfast buffet options. Lack of refrigerated options. The yoghurt looked like it had been sitting at room temperature for a while

Review 26:The barmaids. The beach on the doorstep

Review 27:very friendly, and attentive staff.location right on the promenade, great views form the second floor.Restaurant good, nice and easy going place to relax.

Review 28:There is not much to dislike about this hotel and the location. The only disadvantage for those with limited mobility are the steps up to the room however, staff are always willing to carry your bags up stairs for you.

Review 29:On arrival staff were pleasant and helped with luggage up the stairs as there is no lift. We asked to change rooms to one with a walk-in shower, they upgraded us which was much appreciated and was a fantastic room. Food in the restaurant and bar is excellent quality and has a good variety. All staff were extremely pleasant and always spoke to you.

Review 30:It was so expensive. We could've saved £75 if we'd booked direct

Review 31:The layout of the hotel was well arranged. The bathroom was small but they had made the best of it the shower was excellent.

Review 32:steep stairs no lift due old building and fairly noisy from corridors with slamming doors to bedrooms but still really enjoyed my stay and planning on revisiting.

Review 33:the lovely appearance of the room and fabulous sea view.

Review 34:Whilst the food we had was very good the prices were on the highside.having said that the starter potions were very generous. Maybe £1-£1.50 lower cost for some with a smaller portion as a consequence wouldbe beneficial. Outside Area to the left of the hotel is a bit tacky theprom to, the right was very nice.

Review 35:Staff excellent, decor very good in all areas. Food in restaurantgood.portions good size in fact starters could be slightly smaller. Seedidn't like .

Review 36:Booked a double room with sea views. When I arrived was given the suite .Sunshine suite.so big two rooms on lounge and other large bedroom with modern double bed. Balcony overlooking bay.

Review 37:We had a very uncomfortable bed. When I spoke to the management, they immediately changed us to a room that was much more comfortable. Then, the next day, they removed the old mattress from the room and replaced it. This demonstrated to me just how much they listen to their customers and act quickly to resolve any issues.

Review 38:The staff were warm and welcoming. They took care of any request in a professional manner and really look after guests.

Review 39:Fantastic hotel right on the beach fabulous sea view and food amazing lovely relaxed hotel staff extremely friendly and helpful we want to chill out for couple days and really did

Review 40:A well run family business. A view of the ship's coming in to the port of Great Yarmouth, right on the beach and thus, with an excellent staff is very relaxing.

Review 41:Glass sink was broken and sharp, not safe view disappointing from sea view superior room, hedge and railings in direct view of beach and sea

Review 42:Location

Review 43:restaurant food was over priced, grilled cod tasteless and over cooked. side salad way to expensive for lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber and a few bits of radish and spring onion.

Review 44:upgraded room was really good a spacious, shower fast and hot. extra touches mineral water, ropes, slippers. Breakfast was great lots of choices

Review 45:If you end up on the top floor WiFi is very hit and miss. Can also be a bit noisy especially if facing the front and especially especially on a Thursday night when people leave the Ocean Room next door!

Review 46:Location can't be beaten - 10m from Gorleston beach

Review 47:I did not know that you had to put your room card in the key slot to obtain power within the room. I think a notice should be displayed informing guests. I dii work it out in the end.

Review 48:The restaurant is situated beside the bar but private to other guests. Staff were all very friendly.

Review 49:Wifi connection is very very limited. I had work to do but the connection was only available in the bar, which was heaving with no privacy. Hotel got an engineer out to solve the problem. They had a signal booster for rooms on floor 1 & 2 but it wasn't turned on! Was a lot of messing about but they came through for me.

Review 50:Nice location, right on the beach. Lovely restaurant and great food choice.

Review 51:The room had a fantastic view and was a lovely large room. The food in the restaurant was really good The staff are friendly and happy to help you

Review 52:there was a nightclub almost next door and instead of listening to the waves we had the sound of screaming teenagers until the early hours..

Review 53:The view from our room was lovely

Review 54:I stayed with my 8 year old son after a day out. We received a free upgrade which was fantastic & a perfect treat for us. The hotel was lovely inside, decor was amazing.

Review 55:noise level outside hotel on Friday nights is high due to local night club, hotel does not have double glazing.

Review 56:the staff are by far the hotels best asset, very cheerful and helpful at all times

Review 57:The fire escape across my window. The lack of a picture or something on wall opposite bed. It was bare and lacking in the decor department! Thought rate expensive for what it is.

Review 58:The very friendly, helpful and obliging staff

Review 59:only thing I would say was at night when people coming out of the bar downstairs it was very loud but we got back to sleep.

Review 60:The location was great, staff very friendly. Over all had a wonderful time and would come back.

Review 61:Bit of a walk to get to the town area.

Review 62:Lovely friendly staff. Breakfast was great. Good facilities, with a built in pub, outside eating/drinking area. Only 30 seconds to the beach. Free wi-fi at a decent speed.

Review 63:Too far from the centre of Great yarmouth We were not told you needed to book the restaurant so we had no choice but to eat in the bar area.. Not many facilities around or near the hotel

Review 64:Staff were very nice Hotel clean ,great being on the beach Food was great

Review 65:There was water stains on ceiling but that was all

Review 66:Staff was wounderful x the food here was so good it's was execellet I would go back just for the food x

Review 67:no double glazing so a bit noisy at night!

Review 68:i liked the fact that you can walk out of the hotel right onto the beach! the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 69:I think your meals are a bit expensive we ordered 5 x rib eye steaks at £20 each nicely presented but 3 out of the steaks were tough but edible apart from that it was very enjoyable

Review 70:The hotel is pleasantly decorated spacious double and single rooms very helpful staff. A good atmosphere in the bar and restaurant a lovely place to stay

Review 71:we loved our stay there, the staff were great, helpful, the hotel is in a great place near the beach,we would come again, and recommend it to friends and family,

Review 72:The room was very dated, shabby sheek I would say shabby, the furniture in the room was really dated and the chair's were thread bear, wallpaper peeling off the walls. The bathroom was huge but only had a bath (no shower) It's a great shame as the owners have spent huge amounts of money on the down stairs restaurant & bar facilities, they now need to spend the same on the rooms, well the room we had any way.

Review 73:The room was a good size with a great view overlooking the sea, bathroom was huge, the downstairs restaurant was pretty good food wise.staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 74:One small gripe - WiFi connection not available in our room (too far from the hub or router?), although it was OK on the stairs and in the restaurant.

Review 75:Practically everything.

Review 76:the honey was out of date at breakfast. we did point this out to the staff who promptly changed them on all tables.

Review 77:The room was clean and comfy. The food was excellent. Staff were helpful and friendly.

Review 78:Didn't like loud raucous music in dining room even at breakfast. More subtle instrumental background music would have been preferable.

Review 79:Great bathroom!

Review 80:The food was really good but at breakfast you only had a choice of smoked bacon, not everyone likes smoked food. This is the only complaint I could find

Review 81:The location is lovely. no complaints at all except breakfast see "what i didnt like"

Review 82:We loved the view from our bay window, we were impressed by the menu and pleased by the friendliness of the service. An excellent stay even if it was for a wake!

Review 83:The only one miner issues is that the club on a Friday night can be loud but would not stop is from staying there again.

Review 84:Everything about this hotel was lovely. We stayed in room 108 which is a premier room. Well worth the extra money. Room was extremely clean and house keepers where really good. We ate in the pub its was lovely. Good selection of beers and ales.

Review 85:The Matress in room 203 was awful, both myself and my husband have bad backs now, for 140 a night its pretty disgusting to have a mattress that poor, just awful, there must be a mattress topper added as a facility for this room, when U have done this it would be prefect

Review 86:Room was smaller than it appeared on web photos. I noticed room prices at reception were a fair bit cheaper than I'd paid online so that's a lesson learned.

Review 87:Breakfast was very good

Review 88:Nothing bad just not as good as other trips and rooms

Review 89:Food is always extremely good and staff obliging however the rooms are hot or miss. Always clean but the more modern rooms are greatly superior

Review 90:our room was over the smoking area and also on the friday night the nightclub next door was open and so there was quite a lot of noise. when we return we will ask for another room or join in the fun!!

Review 91:dinner and bar snacks were excellent. choice of beer was good in the pub

Review 92:Whilst the shower facility in the bedroom was good, I personally would have liked to have had the use of a bath most mornings.

Review 93:We found the staff to be very helpful and friendly whilst the "Full English Breakfast" is amazing and always served nice and hot. Well done.

Review 94:We have stayed here before its right on Gorleston Beach. Great Location for the small town and not that far from Great Yarmouth. Lovely Hotel and Staff very friendly and Helpful.

Review 95:Could of been a bit cleaner in bathroom and shower head was very scaled up and shampoo bottles very grimy.

Review 96:Love the sea view, room was amazing will be returning in June.

Review 97:On a Friday night the nightclub next door creates loads on noise and taxi's up until 2.30am - not great really. The bathroom ceiling was full of cobwebs and quite off putting really, all in all overpriced for what it is.

Review 98:The breakfast was OK and the bed was comfy

Review 99:I paid 90 pound for a box room, which was just big enough to fit a double bed. (pictures didn't match room we booked for ). shower was very poor, more water ran down the wall than on me.

Review 100:The room was incredibly hot, in early Feb with window open and radiator turned off - heat coming up through floor, strangely. But better than being cold. Bathroom didn't quite live up to rest of room quality. We were given free upgrade to a room with sea view, which we were delighted about, but it actually had a red iron fire escape directly in front of the window obscuring the view of the sea! Poor quality continental breakfast.

Review 101:The stylish art deco furnishings and pleasant lighting, comfort of bed, quality of tea/coffee, good quality hairdryer, quality of food in restaurant, location by the sea, quality of food in cooked breakfast.

Review 102:We stayed in a very attractive room with amazing views of the sea and beach. The room was comfortable and well appointed. All the public areas were welcoming and the staff excellent.

Review 103:Bathroom door wouldn't lock, staff couldn't find a iron when we requested and waitress in the morning was very loud spoken in kitchen which we heard and few swear words also with the chef.

Review 104:Sea view and very quiet just what we needed

Review 105:Room was a bit tired, thread bear chairs, very dusty carpet around side table and wardrobe, glad didn't have any allergies! Quite high price paid for one night, but bathroom made up for this, big lovely room with bath for long soak!

Review 106:Booked here as wake of relative was in restaurant,so it was nice not to worry about having a drink after. Had evening meal in bar, which was excellent and not to expensive. SeaView from room was lovely, especially first thing in the morning.

Review 107:Shower slightly difficult to use until I got use to it. Door into shower room was not easy to open and close.

Review 108:Pleasant staff. Great views from comfortable room with nice furnishings. Good breakfast. Very quiet at night during my stay.

Review 109:Nothing to dislike

Review 110:A most enjoyable stay with a well equipped bedroom having all that was needed a well stocked tea and coffee tray with a choice of milk or cream. Everywhere was spotlessly clean we had a wide choice of items for breakfast each day. The internet was easy to access and reliable. All the staff were very helpful and did their best to ensure that we had the best

Review 111:The fact that booking.com charged £90 for a standard room, (which cost £68), £90 was for a Superior room, so in the end I got my moneys worth.

Review 112:I liked the room, which were upgraded to, which was a superior room, at the same price as the standard room I booked.

Review 113:I think that the room we had was probably one of the ones still to be updated. It was fine, but in need of a bit of modernisation. The bathroom was freezing! Food was good, but service a little slow.

Review 114:The position on the beach front is great and the public areas are well kept. Food was good, choices different on the two nights we ate. Facilities great for a sea-side town out of season.

Review 115:Disabled facilities are not good and whilst a lift may not be possible a stair lift should be considered to cope with the rather steep stairs.

Review 116:The room was very comfortable and the staff made us feel very welcome and were most helpful. Breakfast choice was very good, well cooked and presented, and accompanied by a first class pot of tea all served by very friendly and cheerful staff. I am disabled and have great difficulty climbing stairs, we had been allocated a room on the third floor which would have been a major problem to access. The staff were most accommodating in relocating me to the 2nd floor (1st floor offered but not my choice as there was a function on and it may have proved noisy.) I should have been clearer on booking but the staff still did well to help me out.

Review 117:I paid extra for a sea view but had a metal fire escape going past our window, also on the Friday night we was woken up by the night club next door, from 2am -2.30 there was trouble outside our window with drunken people.

Review 118:The Hotel was very warm & the decor was very tastefully put together, the food in the restaurant was very good and it is in a lovely location.

Review 119:The Wi-Fi itself was fine, but the underlying broadband speed was pathetic. Useless for a business traveller.

Review 120:Recently refurbished hotel, comfortable room and bed, excellent bathroom, good restaurant. A great place to stay if you're on business in the area.

Review 121:Having to leave!

Review 122:Very friendly staff, extremely comfortable bed, great food both for our evening meal and breakfast. Really please to have chosen this hotel and will return again very soon.

Review 123:Rather industrial dock area behind hotel, not shown on promotional photos but lovely views to the front.

Review 124:Hotel was friendly, clean, well run. Quite busy in bar but had a nice atmosphere. Particularly liked terrace area outside for coffee, bar meals. Food was very good. Good location right on beach.

Review 125:Stay away from room 104. Air conditioning is under the window as is the pub smoking area and exit. Was moved to another room and it was as good as the others we have stayed in here.

Review 126:Staff are always great. Food is tasty, breakfast sets us up for the whole day.

Review 127:the hotel is in a great location right next to the beach the hotel was excellent great food and lots of it very good menu lots to choose from and ower room was excellent we would go back again

Review 128:The bed had some very big springs and no padding, needs a new mattress. Decor a bit dated, some updating done, still needs more.

Review 129:Staff very helpful and friendly. The view of the sea. The quiet room as requested. wifi very efficient. Breakfast tasty especially the yoghurts. Tea very good. Bathroom fittings worked well. Plenty of toiletries and coffee/tea etc.

Review 130:The windows are not double glazed they are old single pained windows made of glass therefore any external noise is easily heard. We had a room overlooking the front of the building on both nights drunk customers who had had been at either wedding or birthday functions within the pub part of the hotel where shouting outside the front. On the second night everyone was woken up at 0050 in the morning by a drunk female customer who was shouting and screaming for between 20-30 minutes right outside. We contacted reception by phone to ask if they had called the police however they said the group were going on there way. She carried on screaming for another 5 minutes before slowly walking off down the road with her group. Also if you eat in the dinning room all of the noise travels through from the bar. The first night there was again several loud drunk males in the bar who were shouting loudly and the noise could be heard clearly in the dinning room as there is no real partition between the two rooms. Again one of the female waitresses looked quite concerned at the situation and was intently observing the group for some time. I would not stay again as it is clear regular functions go on at the pub and that drunk people are not asked to leave earlier on or controlled in an appropriate manner.

Review 131:Good location right next to beach. Room was nicely decorated and modern.

Review 132:We had the Sunrise Suit and the decor is first class with an ensuite to die for. The view is absolutely stunning. we will be going again.

Review 133:Nothing really only the fire exit stairs over our window spoilt view a bit .

Review 134:Had a lovely stay . staff great food excellent nothing too much trouble. Will visit again Thankyou

Review 135:The room was quite hot in the evening so a fan might be useful as the windows do not open very far.

Review 136:Rooms were lovely. Very clean and tidy and nicely decorated. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
