Reviews for Alltshellach
Review 1:That there was only one sitting for a meal at 7.30pm which was quite late for my elderly parents. Large TV was not available to show a Scotland game of the World Cup rugby so we had to go elsewhere. Although we booked 2 rooms together, we couldn't have been further apart within the building, which was a slight concern in case my disabled father or mother required assistance.
Review 2:The buffet was excellent on the Monday evening and the staff particularly helpful.
Review 3:Despite phoning to inform them of our ETA we could not order food, so no evening meal (after a 10 hour drive). Upon arrival we were given the keys to an occupied room! We were then allocated a disabled facility room with twin beds. We had booked a double. The beds were hard and the pillows flat and like stone. It was very difficult to get to sleep.
Review 4:The location. The breakfast was very good. The bar was warm and welcoming.
Review 5:Whole hotel went into shutdown by 11pm. Bar shut very early. Never saw the swimming pool opened at all, sign up saying you have to take covers off pool and put them back once finished yourself! Having to sit with other folk for breakfast, big round tables. If you are not there on a walking holiday then you are sort of put to the side.
Review 6:Hotel was nice and clean, staff were nice too. Very quiet location.
Review 7:The bar didnt open till 6:30 and didnt like the set time for dinner, we were the only couple not part of HK holidays on our first night and were very much made to feel different at dinner by not being seated near other guests so ate at another hotel next night
Review 8:The location was good and hotel clean, food was nice enough but not a great choice
Review 9:Nothing.
Review 10:The Managers Andrew and Bridget were very friendly and helpful. All facilities were excellent and the breakfast was just amazing. Every try porridge, creme fraiche and raspberry jam together? You can at Alltshellach! Very generous and succulent full cooked breakfast also. Location is idyllic, the garden meandering down into Bishop's Bay with its yacht moorings. We even had a baby deer run to within 5 metres of us on our final morning.
Review 11:Charming full service resort. Short walk to the Loch & nearby restaurants. Excellent breakfast. Great wifi. Near beautiful Glen Coe. Hosts Andrew & Bridget very welcoming
Review 12:I ended up with a single bed when i arrived in the room(a double bed was what the paperwork..e-mail had said i would get)
Review 13:Great location and facilities.
Review 14:Found the bed to be hard and hotel in much need of updating. Found the shower to be in much need of a bottle of bleach!
Review 15:Beautiful, scenic location and staff friendly.
Review 16:Need to sort out the post code if using satnav to locate the hotel - got there in the end though !!!
Review 17:Location - real beer - good breakfast - swimming pool - friendly staff .
Review 18:Wifi was a bit poor but it didn't affect the overall stay. It's the Highlands so you can't really complain
Review 19:Excellent staff, lovely hotel in a beautiful location.
Review 20:We were in the newer part of the facility. We had a huge modern room and bathroom. The main area was old and lovely. I really appreciated the pool and jacuzzi after the long walks we did. The breakfasts were really good as well. The grounds are lovely.
Review 21:pool not always open. mostly hf hdiday groups. shared breakfast tables. old building. hotel has seen better times.
Review 22:location ok. big rooms. hiking infos everywhere.
Review 23:Bit more pressure in the shower is pretty much the only constructive criticism I can give.
Review 24:Some of the most helpful and friendly staff I've met in a hotel. Made us sandwiches even though we arrived late and the kitchen had closed. Beautiful ground backing on to the loch. Great fireplace in the reception. Amazing breakfast. Basically great all round.
Review 25:This is advertised as a 4 star Hotel. It is not!. We booked in April2015 as a 4 star hotel expecting the care and service associated withit. We arrived at 6.30pm, there was nobody about and the bar man when hereturned told us very sharply he could not book us in and laughed.Eventually the manager arrived and gave us instructions for our stay. She asked if we had arranged and evening meal and then told us she couldnot accommodate us in the restaurant! We went out to the Lock LevenHotel who were fabulous and had good food. On our return we stood at thebar for 10 minutes until the barman returned and got a glass of red wineeach. The wine was so bad we left it. Never have I done that before. Thefollowing morning at breakfast the table we were using collapsed and mywife was covered in cold milk from the large milk jug. We were justlucky that we had finished the coffee from the coffee pot. The waiterlaughed, the waitress ran and got a tea towel, well done to her. Thetable we were using was of the collapsible type and it didn't haveany safety catches fitted to prohibit it folding up. These should not beused and are a health hazard. This hotel is more like a hostel ratherthan a hotel and we have since found out that they cater for largegroups, yes there was one in, and the evening meal needs to be bookedearly from the choices given and that there is a single evening mealserving time. This is not what I expect from a 4 star Hotel. Only savinggrace was our room in the new section was good. A very disappointinglast night in Scotland and it's star rating needs to be looked atand reduced.
Review 26:The location would have been good if we had had time to enjoy it butleft after the breakfast table collapse.
Review 27:We had nice room but it needed maintenance- mould in the corner of the bath and marks on the walls of bedroom. This hotel has potential to be very nice if the standard of cleaning was higher. Hotel needs reception as well.
Review 28:Great location/ nice, quiet, relaxing area.
Review 29:The beds were super hard and I struggled to get a good night sleep. But very clean and presentable.
Review 30:The cooked breakfast on request was the perfect fuel for a day of hiking. And the view across the munros from the breakfast room was an excellent compliment!
Review 31:Location and views very good but a bit difficult to find using "Glencoe" in a GPS. Quite crowded with organised group (or groups).
Review 32:Older part of building lovely, excellent breakfast, clean room.
Review 33:The room was in an extended part of the hotel and didn't quite have the character and comfort that we'd expected having seen the pictures of the older part of the hotel. If we'd known we probably wouldn't have paid that money for it.
Review 34:A lovely location with helpful hosts and a comprehensive breakfast.
Review 35:Alltshellach could be the perfect place for days in Glencoe region - the house is very well situated, the staff is very friendly. Apart from this the house would definitely need renovation. Unfortunately it is a little run down and is in our eye certainly no 4-star-standard
Review 36:situation, staff, swimmingpool
Review 37:WiFi very slow Washing machine woeful - 4 hours to get a load done - I think it is time to invest in a newer, faster machine!
Review 38:Centrally located with a lovely view over the loch.
Review 39:The room was practically in the attic with a small dormer window that looked out to the pitched roof. The room was small and didn't look like the pictures on Booking.com Both hot and cold water was just a trickle and the floor boards creaked and moved up and down. We were on the top floor of the old section and the room was certainly not worth what we paid.
Review 40:Did not have a room for us although we had confirmation from bookings.com chalet type room they managed to find was not clean, carpet was filthy, door did not fit, walls not clean, picture hanging off the wall!!
Review 41:location was nice, breakfast fine
Review 42:Pillows!! Too hard for me.
Review 43:Helpful owner. I wasn't here for walking but clearly this is great walking country and this location is good lodging for that.
Review 44:Breakfast finished at 9am, I had travelled 200 miles and just think the following morning breakfast could of been served until 10am. The first night I got there they were full up at Dinner, so I had to go and drive again to find food. Being a diabetic this was not an ideal situation.
Review 45:Our room was in the new wing - clean with a modern bathroom. The main house had lots of character and wide open spaces to enjoy. The view was exceptional. I liked the old plus the comfort of the new.
Review 46:The bed and pillows were not to my taste but this point is only nit picking. I would definately stay there again when visiting the area.
Review 47:The food was first rate. Service from the staff could not have been better.
Review 48:The water pressure in our room was terrible: the shower was weak and the toilet would barely flush. This was not a result of conservation measures, as the next day when we went to the Glen Coe visitor's center which prides itself on water conservation and the pressure was twice as much as what we had dealt with in our room. The hotel definitely caters to large "holiday" groups and really seemed to feel that we were just lucky to get to stay there. We did not feel particularly welcomed, and no one was available at check out to ask about our stay. Wifi was poor.
Review 49:The hotel is lovely in the meeting areas, dining room, etc. Breakfast was tasty.
Review 50:No proper address for this hotel, no signage on road, etc. took a whiledriving around and asking locals to find this hotel. Beds really quitesmall, lots of madgis- little insects flying around grounds. Not worththe price really ...
Review 51:Hotel setting was very serene with some views of loch. Management seemedvery orgainised. There was a heated pool to enjoy.
Review 52:No complaints apart from the midgies but once we put on our Smidge they kept their distance
Review 53:The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Nice room and some of the public rooms were stunning. Swimming pool was a bonus. Loved the laminated hill walks and maps provided in the lobby. Great breakfast
Review 54:This place is old, tired and worn down. It appears that no effort is being made to maintain this property and actually the staff seem to have let go completely. The room was of very low standard with large mold damages around the window area in the bathroom. It really is a pity due to the beautiful location and a property which could be very nice but there is absolutely not good value for the money.
Review 55:The location is wonderful which is pretty much the best one can say about this place. Beautiful view from the room.
Review 56:The location of this hotel was excellent and the garden is so beautiful. The staff was very friendly especially a lady called Bridge. She was very helpful. The rooms were very clean and so comfortable.
Review 57:inconsistency of breakfast. i.e. when I requested bacon eggs sausage hash browns, I received one rasher, one sausage, one egg, and a hash brown.. However the next morning I might receive two of each product, bar hash brown...... On our last morning there was much confusion with coffee and no tea for my wife, no breakfast order was taken, toast was late also. Friendly staff, but much confusion. Probably due to staff training for the summer season. Not really a problem.
Review 58:friendly staff fabulous location very enjoyable atmosphere great quality food
Review 59:My twin room had an excellent view but a really tiny window. Not sure if, I got that room is because I booked via Booking.com. The reason I say that is because, the person who received me explicitly mentioned 'you have booked via booking.com', which sounded suspicious. My room had the sound of running water through out the day. The bathroom drain was in very poor condition, it just did not drain fast at all. The room temperature control was horrendous. After switching off all the heating and keeping the window open, the room was still hot. I asked for a regular sheet to cover myself in the night. Was really difficult to sleep.
Review 60:The swimming pool and Jacuzzi. Friendly staff. Good breakfast. The location and view from the building was really good(Although I got a really tiny window).
Review 61:But of confusion between time for breakfast verbally given by member of staff and what was written on sheet almost resulted in us missing breakfast.
Review 62:Bathroom was spacious as was the bedroom.
Review 63:Nice relaxing location, clean bright room and overall facility. Short drives to many interesting sites. Short walk to near-by pub. Laundry facilities available. Friendly and courteous staff.
Review 64:Unable to provide dinner as they were fully booked, but had a nice meal in the nearby hotel.
Review 65:Room modern and immaculate. Staff helpful. Although unable to provide dinner made a booking for us nearby. Also allowed us a late check-out
Review 66:Staff were welcoming and very helpful, all area's are spotlesly clean, food is excellent and very reasonably priced. Added bonus of swimming pool.
Review 67:It would have been good to be able to get a meal or even a snack of some sort or to be aware that we would not be able to get any food.We were not in a party, there were people eating in the dining room, who were in a party and they were all eating their evening meal but we had not eaten and there was nothing on offer to eat.
Review 68:The rooms were clean and comfortable Staff were helpful Swimming pool a bonus Location was perfect
Review 69:The hotel obviously is part of a group that sells organised walking holidays. Felt a bit of a spare part being seperate from the rest of the guests. Had pre arranged an early breakfast via email but hotel manager seemed unaware. He said he would pass it down to the breakfast team that we would be in a wee bit earlier but the breakfast team were surprised to see us at the arranged time. As above though, breakfast team bent over backwards to be helpful.
Review 70:The setting was amazing, the breakfast girls couldn't do enough to be helpful, the barman was very friendly and the food was good.
Review 71:Booked double bed room got twin and was for disability. Not very helpful and not impressed with food at all. Had to walk to another hotel to get some thing to eat. Just for mountain climbers and walkers.
Review 72:Hot tub
Review 73:Had to go up 2 staircases to get to our room. Once there we discovered a room that was decorated in the 70s. The bathroom was in a very bad state. The wooden structure of the bath had rotted and there were moisture stains on the ceiling. this was definitely not a 4 star hotel. A 2 max. by any standards. Plus there is no real reception. The hotel basically seams to cater to a backpacking & trek company and I don't think it really cares about it's other clients who do not go through that provider. Honestly avoid this hotel if you can.
Review 74:A pool.
Review 75:Box spring broke causing for a poor nights sleep on our last of two nights. Hopefully repaired properly for the next guest. It was mentioned they had a previous issue in our room earlier. I would still highly recommend Alltshellach.
Review 76:Location! Location! Location! Room, pool and hot tub looked inviting. Breakfast was a great start to the day with amazing views.
Review 77:The wifi wasn't working for most of our stay, but understand they were trying to get the problem sorted. Also the bathroom door kept getting stuck and the toilet flush was rather temperamental (had to press it a few times before it worked)!
Review 78:Gorgeous location. Not too far to walk to the bus stop on the main road. Easy access to Glencoe and Fort William. And breakfast was excellent!
Review 79:My booking through Booking.com had not come through, but fortunately they had a room available, and the initial awkwardness passed when I showed my confirmation email. I had to eat elsewhere as the dining room was booked up, but I was recommended a nearby hotel for dinner, which turned out to be excellent.
Review 80:Very modern decor, everything in perfect working order, stylish and tidy rooms. Would have liked to have used pool but didn't have the gear! Breakfast was excellent.
Review 81:Would have liked a mini fridge in the room. Most of the other guests were much older and the dining was tables of 8 so mingling was forced which made for a less than lingering breakfast. The dinner menu was a set one with one serving and seemed pricey plus the menu wasn't that enticing so we didn't eat there.
Review 82:The location was good, only 20 mins drive to Fort William and about 30 to the start of the Ben Nevis climb. We got room 29 in the new wing and it was great, big bed, floor space and even 2 chairs and a table. Bathroom decent too with a very strong shower. The bar is quaint and well stocked, staff efficient. The hot tub was awesome after our Ben Nevis climb! Really comfortable bed, pillow and sheets, one of the best sleeps I've had on our trip.
Review 83:No staff to receive us at the time of checking into the rooms
Review 84:The location of the hotel and the food was good including the take away The garden was well kept Staff were courteous
Review 85:The breakfast was poorly organised for B and B customers. Our room was right next to where the hikers got there bus early in the morning. The staff didn't seem interested in making the B and B guests stay the best they could.
Review 86:The hot tub and pool were nice room was ok.
Review 87:Communal dining. i.e large circular tables. Forcing one to be social. I like my own company at breakfast time. However, this is probably a fault of my own rather than the hotel. In the end I got used to it and it turned out to be quite convivial.
Review 88:spaciousness
Review 89:No bar meals. Strict dinner plan. Too far from public services and outdoor centers - like West Highland Way.
Review 90:Well kept. Very organized services. Helpful staff.
Review 91:This hotel is setup to welcome people who've booked activity holidays with HF holidays. They seem to try to fill their spare capacity with bookings from the internet - like us. This was not clear at all when booking. The staff when we arrived seemed very unfamiliar with the hotel itself, and were only setup to deal with the package tourists. We basically felt fairly unwelcome and like an afterthought throughout.
Review 92:Clean room, good breakfast. Lovely area and it was easy to find the hotel and get to nearby walks.
Review 93:I din't like staff's attitude, owner should think how it make more cosy and sophisticated. It is fabulous location- but hotel itself is very poor. Not very clean, breakfast is so average
Review 94:If your not there for walking, there is just the pool to keep ypu entertained. So could get boring. Slightly over priced for what you get.
Review 95:Great rooms with helpful staff.
Review 96:Good position and ideal for exploring Skye.
Review 97:Staff very friendly and helpful. Food good.
Review 98:nil
Review 99:quiet location
Review 100:Very friendly staff, clean hotel and great food!!
Review 101:Cant recommend this enough. Bridget and Andrew were lovely and plenty of activities around
Review 102:Location of hotel. Friendliness of staff.
Review 103:The history of the building and easy access to tourist places.
Review 104:Great location Located right in the heart of Glencoe.
Review 105:OMG. What a location! The scenery was awe inspiring!
Review 106:Nothing to dislike.
Review 107:Staff exceptionally friendly and gave valuable advice about the area. We will definitely be returning.
Review 108:Staff, general atmosphere, typical HF style
Review 109:nothing
Review 110:wonderfull old house in extensive grounds staff verry freindly a good place to unwind or as base for walking and out door persuits
Review 111:the bed was a little hard, (but i'm a little soft...)
Review 112:The staff were very lovely, efficient and welcoming
Review 113:Rooms were spacious and bright with modern bathrooms... Nice small bar and hall with log fire
Review 114:Pool and Jacuzzi were excellent
Review 115:Good clean modern with a pool and hot tub that looks out onto the mountains.
Review 116:The location
Review 117:Thought it was very expensive for what you got
Review 118:The bed was comfortable had a good nights sleep
Review 119:Nothing I am defiantly returning with more family.
Review 120:Piped in for dinner and Bridgette hospitality was amazing, a genuine warm welcome.
Review 121:Uncomfortable beds Didn't realise it was a hotel used mainly for tour company.
Review 122:Swimming pool views location
Review 123:everything about Altshellach, beautiful room, good facilities, friendly and helpful staff
Review 124:Location and swimming pool amazing
Review 125:Excellent dining facilities, clean rooms, friendly staff
