Reviews for The Glencoe Inn

Review 1:The dinner menu was a bit adventurous for our taste buds..

Review 2:Dont be deceived from the outstide as this is a very cosy warm welcoming hotel with friendly helpful staff. . Delicious breakfast with plenty to choose from. Lovely clean cosy room. Great for a relaxing/walking/scenic break. Looking forward to a return visit

Review 3:The hotel was spotless, we were made to feel welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. Our daughter enjoyed the board games available at the bar. Would highly recommend this Hotel!

Review 4:Every thing was good

Review 5:My wife and I both love Glencoe we are up there alot normally with our tourer were we stay at the invercoe campsite. But was only up for couple days so stayed at the Glencoe inn which was very nice. Good food and nice staff.

Review 6:The room shook every time a lorry went by. And a 2 pound charge to pay electronically.

Review 7:What a gorgeous place to be! Friendly helpful staff and super breakfasts!

Review 8:The staff couldn´t offer us more that a 2 course set menu for dinner on arrival which is not great if you have young children. They didn´t have a good knowledge of the area and recommended Fort William and Ballahulish as alternative places to eat which are far away compared to for example the Clachaig Inn which is only 6km away and has great food. We booked a room for 2 adults and 2 children with a loch view and got a room with only 1 double and 1 single bed without a loch view.

Review 9:Some traffic noise at front of hotel. Room prices high for facilities available (but that probably reflects high demand in mid August)

Review 10:Very friendly and helpful staff, and excellent location. Very good restaurant and breakfasts.

Review 11:Booked a double room. Was given a family room. Whole room full of beds one double in the middle and single beds either sides making it impossible to get into double bed.

Review 12:Presentation and serving of evening meal. Friendly atmosphere.

Review 13:room not ready pre 4 pm .no phone or services directory in room luke warm shower 2 nights. staff poorly prepared for emergency evacuation. billed on a prepaid booking ,grossly overpriced stay.

Review 14:Restaurant / breakfast staff rude & disinterested, room tatty and not well cleaned. Cleaner walked in without knocking, no apology when told about sticky tables in room.

Review 15:Food very good. View from room good.

Review 16:Hotel is right on the corner of the busy highway that goes through the area-large trucks lumbering up and down caused our room and everything in it to shake throughout the night!

Review 17:Lovely staff & meals.

Review 18:Paid for Loch view, all we could see was a couple of old mobile homes. Dirty dark room with weird smell. Most expensive and worst place on entire Scotjand trip. Really brought our holiday mood down. Luck we only stayed one night and left first thing in the morning

Review 19:Stunning location

Review 20:There appeared to be a shortage of staff as the receptionist was also changing beer kegs, offering a waitress service and acting as the bar maid. This was a ridiculous ask for 1 member of staff. The room did not have a hairdryer or razor socket and the lighting circuit tripped. Wi-fi was only available in the bar. All in all over priced for the lack of facilities.

Review 21:View from restuarant and room. Stella the receptionist, waitress, bar maid was very friendly.

Review 22:Vegetarian choices limited. Staff knowledge of wines limited. Customer relations could be improved.

Review 23:Location and view. Tha Glencoe Gathering bar, once open.

Review 24:The staff were ill-mannered, the room was very small and the view from the window was blocked by the restaurant that had been added onto the hotel and not in the website pictures. The fan from the kitchen was all we could hear in the room, which was fragranced by the smells from the kitchen. Their full Scottish breakfast was the worst I have ever had. I would not recommend this hotel.

Review 25:Booked a family room for us and two kids. Room only had one double bed. Kids has to share a matress on the floor. problem was caused by booking.com sending incomplete information to hotel.

Review 26:Great location, very helpful staff, great food. Great value for money - price included dinner, bed and breakfast

Review 27:We were given the smallest room I have ever seen, more like a cupboard and you could hardly get around the bed. I asked for my booking to be checked as I was expecting a view, not of the dirty roof next door. I was told it couldn't be checked because she didn't know how to do it and it couldn't be changed anyway because they were full. I asked the employee to speak to her manager or someone who knew how to check it, no one came back to me. I since emailed to clarify my booking and am still waiting for a response, we were there in early June. I feel that the photos on the website are misleading, very disappointed in real life, except for the standard of food.

Review 28:The bed was a good size and very comfortable and the food for the breakfast was very good.

Review 29:For cost rooms were small. Too warm at night. Could open windows but then room filled with midges. Has so much potential but needs some work.

Review 30:Location of hotel was lovely. Beautiful scenery

Review 31:Next door is a more modest (and cheaper) restaurant than the one in the inn (where we only had breakfast), and the food was quite good. There is not much to see in the little town, which was fine with us.

Review 32:A very nice inn, in a nice setting and with a lovely view of the loch. Across the street from the bus stop, which was important to us as we did not have a car.

Review 33:For £145 a night we got a very small scruffy room, nothing like the pictures. Leaking window, rotting window sill, wet carpet, stained carpet. Tiny bathroom, slow draining shower, nowhere to put anything in bathroom except the floor. Not nice!

Review 34:Staff cheerful and did their best. However not enough of them. One person with little help cannot serve 20 in the restaurant and run the bar and do check ins.

Review 35:The restaurant was awful and I didn't rate the service highly. Definitely go next door for food and don't bother with the restaurant.

Review 36:Really enjoyed the views of the hotel, and how close it was to everything.

Review 37:Our room was terrible. I complained but nothing was offered. Very shabby indeed and bed was small, I'd say a 3/4 rather than a double.

Review 38:The restaurant and breakfast was really good.

Review 39:No children's menu. Rooms were very small.

Review 40:Location was good with great views of the mountains and lake. Staff were helpful but there was not enough of them.

Review 41:At £153 per night, this was very poor value for money. The room was very basic, the shower was luke warm at best. Breakfast served from 7.30am - not early enough for early risers.

Review 42:Location Staff were friendly Good restaurant and bar adjacent

Review 43:There was only one member of staff who was doing everything. Stella was doing her best to cope but you can't be on reception, the bar and waiting on customers in the dining hall all at the same time. We had to interrupt a customer complaining about the service at breakfast so we could get our breakfast served. Stella deserves a payrise (and a few more staff to help her!

Review 44:We liked the location, the facilities and the food.

Review 45:The room and shower we're cramped but luckily there was a full size shower down the hall. Parking spaces were limited.

Review 46:Breakfast was good and the staff were friendly.

Review 47:Over priced for basic room and surroundings. £125 was too much for that room. £50 - £70 more reasonable. The place needs refurbishment to cheer up a dour reception, landings. Bedroom needed less melamine. Floor had a sunken floor board by window. Breakfast staff need more help. Pressured lady, only one there to serve all guests. The Highland gathering bar next door could do with reviewing staff training. Very polite and helpful young male staff, but aspects of service need sprucing. Langustines need. A great big side plate, and greasy hands need something substantial to clean. Food was very very good though. Service for the drink for food customers needs stepping up by 100%. We were left to last and waited 40 mins plus, cos bar customers took first place. We had to get very shirty to force staff to push bar staff to supply get our drink. I don't think the young staff felt able to confront the manager who was running the bar that night.

Review 48:Location. Overlooking Loch Leven. Place and linen clean

Review 49:The room was very small, the furniture tired and paint peeling from the windowsill. The bathroom was in dire need of attention, black mould on the sealant around the bath and in the grouting on tiles, no toilet roll holder and the door lock broken.

Review 50:The location, food and staff

Review 51:I felt the GBP 155 over priced for a basic pub room with ensuitetypical small country town accommodation

Review 52:restaurant was good which is just as well as nothing else around

Review 53:We had booked a room for 4 (travelling with 2 young kids) but when we showed up, they had only 2 rooms for 2 people each.

Review 54:The diner at the restaurant itself was very good

Review 55:Bed was terrible, room was basic for the price! Not very clean, bathroom was bad expected more for the price! Wouldn't recommend to anyone to stay sorry but definitely eat here!

Review 56:Staff were amazing, friendly food in restaurant was great would eat here again

Review 57:Everything felt like going home on my honeymoon when I got here. Needs closing down for 6 months and an overhaul the over priced bar needs repricing and the £2 charge on all credit and debit cards needs getting rid off

Review 58:I liked Stella and breakfast

Review 59:That the flooring and carpet in the room we stayed in had not been hoovered before we arrived The beer was not good, and was very expensive

Review 60:The views and the food

Review 61:Bathroom door could not be shut; toilet seat too small, did not cover pan; no razor socket, despite mention in brochure; no shelf anywhere in bathroom, and in general nowhere to put things except for wardrobe; room was tacky, holes in several walls; have stayed in better places for half the price.

Review 62:The staff were friendly and helpful. Switched us from appalling room 104 to better room 116.

Review 63:We had a long wait for a table for dinner, we only ate dinner there once. Food was ok, nothing more. Bedroom was tired looking and basic. Dogs barking all night from other selfish residents Never again

Review 64:Location to Glen Coe and surrounding area

Review 65:the only problem was the noise of the traffic at night but can't see that anything can be done about that.

Review 66:staff very friendly food very good décor tastefully done

Review 67:Cooked Breakfast very greasy. Shower was intermittently hold and cold. Parking was far away from hotel for bags. Room was very small with shabby finish.

Review 68:Location

Review 69:The ensuite bathroom was clean and functional, but pretty basic.

Review 70:Perfectly situated for exploring the Highlands – the Glencoe Inn provided a comfortable and welcoming base for a couple of night's stay. Plus points included ample car parking, free kit drying facilities (useful after a day of hiking), nice views, a real log fire in the bar, nice food and welcoming and friendly staff.

Review 71:What a cheek to charge £2 extra to use a debit card to pay the bill. Are they having a laugh or just trying to rip off every tourist. They should be upfront and put an extra £2 on the basic bill rather than this trick. Putting a sign on the desk saying debit and credit cards will incur this charge and adding this on when you pay the bill is quite unacceptable.

Review 72:A little bit of traffic noise but can't be helped.

Review 73:Good location. Pretty, comfortable room with nice view. Good restaurant next door, although service there was extremely slow. I mean really slow.

Review 74:Our room could be maintained better. Left a list highlighting bathroom door broken and would not close. Grout required around bath. Rain and wind came in under the window.

Review 75:Great location with easy travel up or down the coast

Review 76:Small bed. Only a standard 4'6 double which is a bit small for anyone younger than 75 used to at least a 5 footer.

Review 77:The good food for both dinner in the next door bistro, and the fabulous breakfast. Huge bathroom and good muted wall lights for late night reading

Review 78:Thought it was a bit odd that the doors could only be locked from the inside. Beds were comfy, but really not that helpful for bad backs.

Review 79:Hardworking staff, lovely food, beautiful setting.

Review 80:No hot water for a bath in the morning. Would be helpful if this could be remedied as it has happened before (mornings). However, we DO enjoy staying at the Glencoe Inn so we will continue to go back there.

Review 81:Comfortable room with good views over Glencoe. In-room facilities to make tea/coffee, and TV if you want it. Staff always very good, and always very helpful; (we have returned to this hotel a few times). Nice restaurant.

Review 82:The outside of the hotel looked pretty shabby although there was scaffolding up so renovations are obviously underway. Also they had run out of fuel in for the log burner in the bar area so felt cold.

Review 83:Was a good location for visiting the glencoe area. The furniture and furnishings in the communal areas were very nice and looked new.

Review 84:We stayed in room 110. No room to swing a cat, glad we never brought one. Shower was very poor, shower curtain fell down. No lights in the bedside lights and TV was totti.

Review 85:The resteraunt was excellent. Proximity was first class. Staff were perfect for us.

Review 86:We had a load of snowboarding kit that needed drying and they took for us and dried it overnight which was brilliant. It was nicely dry and warm for us the next morning ready to hit the slopes again

Review 87:wifi signal falls off when you enter bedroom

Review 88:-Hotel decor wax traditional style -staff were very friendly -restaurant next door was great for our young family's needs( chicken and burgers) -good allround value

Review 89:Bedroom was a little on the small side if anything but we didnt spend a large amount of time there so cant really complain.

Review 90:Restaurant and lounge areas very spacious and comfortable. Brilliant location just down the road from the glencoe ski and snowboarding (purpose of our trip) Food in the restaurant was very very nice.

Review 91:The showers where terrible hardly any water coming out of them and they where cold, tried to turn the heat up on the shower but the more heat you got there was only a trickle of water! Bathroom was cold as there is no heating in it, the hotel could be doing with upgrading and some money spent on it to bring it up to scratch as its a lovely hotel , won't go back till the showers are better as it was just too cold

Review 92:The location, the real fire, staff were friendly, breakfast was lovely as was my room

Review 93:A detail here and there, but nothing worth mentioning.

Review 94:It was our first hotel in the Highlands and it really didn't disappoint us. Wonderful location, great breakfast and a comfortable room. The pub next door served very nice dinner and we even got live music. Perfect after a day of driving and hiking.

Review 95:not very clean, e.g. bin had not been emptied when we first arrived wifi is restricting as it's only in the lobby

Review 96:location was good, right next to a petrol station and only a few minutes drive to some shops breakfast was quite nice

Review 97:Kevin who owns the hotel with his wife was the perfect host, attentive and caring. Nicely run hotel with breathtaking views. Looking forward to going back when its in season & making sure we can stomach the beautful breakfast that is served without being to hungover! Top Marks!

Review 98:Always a restriction to have wi fi limited to public areas.

Review 99:Kevin the new House Manager was both entertaining and helpful. The breakfast was good. Room was basic but clean.

Review 100:Excellent staff (stella in particular) breakfast and an area to store my bike. Also had access to a drying room to dry wet gear. Dogs were also made very welcome. Highly recommended.

Review 101:very noisy banging pipes at 6.am vibration throughout the room including the bed when lorries past. Early closing of bar, (we came in from a meal next door to have a night cap at half ten, and it was all locked up) Uncomfortable bed. Towels, tea, biscuits not replenished after first night. not told about bar food menu availability, we were ushered into a la carte style restaurant, although food was good, it was very expensive

Review 102:food bar area

Review 103:Showers lack any water pressure

Review 104:Staff were fantastic, particularly two ladies in bar/restaurant. Very good with dogs, great stay. On criticism is showers were rubbish but everything else made up for it!

Review 105:There is no Wifi in the rooms, we had to be all our planning/browsing in the lobby.

Review 106:Our room was spacious with a great view. The breakfast was both high quality and generous. The manager was very helpful, even late at night when she was knocking off.

Review 107:We did'nt like anything about the hotel it was very dirty

Review 108:The location was excellent, we didn' t end up staying as the hotel was very run down and dirty

Review 109:The room was small but cost £110 per night. We paid extra for a loch side view but although the room was on the same side of the building as the loch our main view was a field and a wall. The TV was tiny. No biscuits. The last orders for the bar were 10.30pm. Drinks at the hotel were considerable more expensive than the bar next door which was also owned by the hotel. The bar next door (owned by the hotel) also had last orders at 10.30pm promptly followed by putting all chairs on the table to make leave as soon as possible. Were made to feel like naughty children because we wanted to stay up in the lounge past 11pm. Basically they were in the bussiness of fleecing customers with the minimum of effort.

Review 110:Nothing. We booked for two nights but left after the first. We were told we could not have our money back for the second night

Review 111:Fabulous location in the highlands with friendly helpful staff and great food and lodging. Great base to start your walks or drives around the highlands.

Review 112:While our guest room was attractive and clean, the bathroom was small. The hallways and stairwells are a bit tired and had an odd odour but the positives far outweighed the negatives.

Review 113:We had an amazing room with a view of the water and mountains in the distance. The sunset was spectacular. The food and service in the small restaurant was exceptional.

Review 114:Rooms were a bit shabby. Hotel in need of a revamp. Pictures on website looked a whole lot better that it actually was.

Review 115:Loved the location. The pub next door was really good with great friendly staff.

Review 116:The room we had was quite small and had a sloping ceiling on one side. Not too big a deal really as we only used the room for sleeping. The plumbing bangs quite a bit when other guests are using water which became a little annoying early in the mornings.

Review 117:All the staff at this hotel were really friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel is perfect for exploring Glencoe and Loch Leven. The food in the hotel and adjacent "Gathering" restaurant is first class and very reasonably priced. Parking was no problem with a large area to the rear of the building. Free WiFi is available in public areas. The hotel has a lovely character being none too modern.

Review 118:Not enough staff, rooms were a bit "tired" and needed sprucing up. Evening meal menu did not seem to change.

Review 119:Friendliness of staff, food and location was good.

Review 120:Very expensive, we spent 110£ for just a night! The wall of our room, which was very small, were dirty. There was a lot of dust in the lobby and all over the room's floor.

Review 121:Breakfast was nice.

Review 122:Dining room characterless. Breakfast service terrible - felt like I was very unwelcome. I was served the worst poached eggs I ever had. well overdone. Same for the boiled eggs- must have been boiled for 0 minutes

Review 123:Clean average hotel with ordinary amenities.

Review 124:Rooms are very basic. Clean enough but not worth the price. Our booking was for 5 rooms for 2 families with children. We only got 4 rooms in the hotel and 1 room booked in another hotel. This meant splitting parents from children. Not ideal. There were apologies but no offer of reducing the rate due to the inconvenience. These things happen but not managed very well

Review 125:Don't expect to sleep. Logging trucks drive on road very close to front of hotel causing entire hotel to shake (think richter 4 earthquake) every 10-30 minutes throughout the night. You should get paid by the hotel owners to stay here. It's a shame because the staff and food here are lovely.

Review 126:The weather was very hot and the room so stifling we were unable to sleep. The radiator in the bathroom wouldn't turn off - the staff explained that this was a quirk of the hot water system - which made matters worse. Staying here in cooler weather would probably be a better idea

Review 127:Staff were great and very helpful

Review 128:The place needs an urgent upgrade(everything). The tiny room and facilities had a very alarming problem: When an HGV passes down the main road there is what feels like an earthquake in the room------bad enough to make the doors rattle. If the hotel is not to be pulled down, I would suggest a good civil engineer is employed along with a vibration expert------it is likely that a natural frequency is being breached.

Review 129:good food, staff very friendly and helpful

Review 130:our room was very small had we been staying for more than one night would have asked for a move and we had no view out of the window

Review 131:we had dinner in the dining room and it was excellent... young lady's looking after us very nice and friendly....enjoyed the small hotel bar too. We would stay here again.

Review 132:Staff were exceedingly helpful and friendly. We dined in the hotel and the standard of food and service was excellent. Clean rooms well equipped albeit a bit small. Good parking facilities and excellent location make this a definite will visit again.

Review 133:I had booked two rooms and one of the rooms was not reserved and rented to another party. The staff member would not admit to the error and almost did not refund the full cost of two rooms. She was quite rude during the entire process.

Review 134:Our deposit was refunded thanks to the manager.

Review 135:TV didnt work. Water was COLD, even though there was sign on the wall saying "water could be very hot". The evening staff was way too busy to take care of hotel guests because they had to look after the dining customers. Please get more staff.

Review 136:The only highlight of this stay was the super-friendly breakfast staff and the wonderful breakfast.

Review 137:Wifi only in public areas. Showers can be great or awful. Not much hot water after 9 am. They do shut it off during the day. Maybe I slept too late. Parking was tight.

Review 138:Two restaurants right there. Bar. Beds comfy. Easy to find. Outgoing and funny staff. Met lovel people and partied till very late. Hence missed breakfast and hot shower. But they did serve us scrambled eggs. Thank you. Breakfast included.
