Reviews for Finch's Arms

Review 1:Nothing!

Review 2:Every things .. Friendly staff .. Delicious food .. Nice location .. They upgraded us with Lake view for free! Free parking. I strongly recommend.

Review 3:The rooms were clean comfortable very nicely furnished but very small

Review 4:We found all the staff to be very helpful, friendly and efficient. They could not be bettered. We stayed for three nights and as the menu hadn't changed ( not that we felt it should have done because there was a good choice) we were told that if we had any requests the chef would do his best to accommodate us, which he did. First class

Review 5:Lovely large bed but unfortunately it was low, difficult to get out of and noisy every time we moved. We would have valued a chair in the room. The kettle lid did not have a handle which was difficult to manage.

Review 6:The location was beautiful and the decorations and fittings of the building/room were very nice. Lovely deep bath in a large bathroom. An excellent breakfast that set us up for the day. Staff were pleasant and very accommodating. Lovely thick, white towels and plenty of them. We need not have brought our own.

Review 7:The Public Areas and bedroom had an overwhelming smell of the kitchen. Bedroom was very small. Staff were un-professional.

Review 8:It is located in a very pretty spot

Review 9:Seating in the bar was uncomfortable - food ok but not the wow factor. Had a good time but wouldn't go back. Garden full of lavender which attract wasps and insects.

Review 10:I loved the view from our room however I had to pay extra.

Review 11:Restaurant service Thought waiter was going to spill my soup, he didn't but did throw the bread ever where. Sat down at 7:30 main course arrived 8:40 this is way too long especially when your on your own

Review 12:Excellent beer garden (and beer) Fantastic shower

Review 13:Large comfortable room, excellent breakfast. Very convenient for Hambleton Hall - and much cheaper rooms! Friendly staff happy to keep bar open as long as required.

Review 14:The bedroom was uncomfortably hot which made it difficult to sleep

Review 15:The food was excellent. It had the feel of an old English pub, but has had a contemporary make over giving you the best of both worlds.

Review 16:We have stayed at the Finches Arms for both mine and my husband's Birthday's this year and highly recommend it. The evening meals, rooms, service and breakfast were outstanding and the staff were very friendly and helpful on both occasion's. The whole experience helped to make our Birthdays feel special.

Review 17:Poor arrangement of shutters in room meant no ventilation if shutters closed. High price for wine by the glass. Some minor areas of maintenance neglected

Review 18:Picture showed bathrobes in room, there were none, bring your own. Bathroom needs some cosmetic renovation to keep it up to standard. Bedframe squeaks Poor wifi

Review 19:Lovely relaxing location and views from room. Comfy bed/mattress Great bath Helpful staff Very pleasant restaurant (tables not on top of eachother) Good menu, food and wine. Chef really accomodating.

Review 20:Service during the meal and lunch could be better. I had to get up and go to reception to ask for cutlery for our table at lunch time. During the dinner (excellent food), I had to ask twice for my drink which was delayed for a long time. Apparently it was because they did not have Bombay Gin in stock, but could have said so and I was quite happy to have another brand. It was really disappointing to hear staff chatting load below the bedroom window early hours after midnight, it was disturbing! With the reservation, I had the option of requesting a bunch of flowers in our room, which I did. But it was not done so. I would have been quite happy to pay extra for it, or at least to be told in advance that it was not going to be done.

Review 21:The locality, the scenery, the village, the view overlooking the Rutland Water was beautiful.

Review 22:Shabby areas - needs painting and the terrace outside the back is shabby with areas not maintained . Breakfast room has a hole in the flooring which is dangerous and needs immediate attention . Staff not trained . Made to feel a nuisance as we arrived for breakfast at 9.30 and they said they were setting up for lunch !! No clean napkins - apparently they were in the washing machine.

Review 23:Location

Review 24:No wifi, very poor 3G signal around, kettle was old and has a fusty bottom.

Review 25:Cleanliness, comfort, free car parking, staff, free child cot, and really beautiful lake view.

Review 26:The reception was constantly messy. In the morning when trying to get fresh air and sit in the back garden, the doors were locked and there was no way to get any cold juice. As there was no one around. There was mould on the ceiling up above the shower head.

Review 27:The food is to die for, it is most definitely worth a trip to experience this delight. I would travel from Nottingham just for dinner. The staff were very attentive and very nice people.

Review 28:We were made to feel very welcome. All the staff were very efficient. The Finch arms is a lovely old pub with lovely ambience, but the bedrooms are very modern so a mixture of new and old. Very nice.

Review 29:The bed was very close to ground so hard work getting up. The bathroom lighting did not light your face when shaving. The shower was not very effective.

Review 30:The location, the bar and food were good.

Review 31:Lovely old with new building, rooms modern and decor was just too my taste. Bathroom excellent. Food very good. Rooms spacious (we stayed in Room 4 which looked over Rutland Water)

Review 32:Too dark in restaurant. Lighting poor. Same in bathroom - needs better lighting over sink to facilitate wet shaving. No bedside table on one side. TV at height lower than bed made viewing strange. Bacon and black pudding dried out and inedible.

Review 33:4 open fires - all roaring. Very cosy bar area. Fantastic view of the Lake from bedroom 4.

Review 34:marquee obstructing our view of rutland water .

Review 35:the decoration and ambience were perfect for our night away. staff were lovely and the location idyllic.

Review 36:lovely little 17th century inn with very clean modern but authentic rooms. staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was excellent, location was ideal with views over lake. very quiet, peaceful and cosy warm would love to stay again.

Review 37:Our room was located next to the staircase leading to the accommodations, it tends to get a bit noisy because of the coming and going of the guests, persistent ringing of the phone from the reception can be heard in the room. No internet connection in the room, need to stay in the hallway to get connected.

Review 38:We like the size of the room. It is clean and the bed was comfortable. I like the modern decor. We had full English breakfast which is included in the rate. Lunch and dinner were great.

Review 39:Tatty decor in rooms didn't match up to photos online, shower hose in bath but no shower curtain, no bath robes as stated online, service well intentioned but ramshackle at times.

Review 40:Location, size of room, atmosphere, friendly staff, really nice breakfast.

Review 41:The ?Edwardian beds were not the most comfortable ever. The room was rather too hot with little scope for cooling it down.

Review 42:Excellent dinner with varied menu. Breakfast extra points for not wrapping the butter, sugar and jam. Could have been offered a greater choice of fruit juices. Bathroom had a recent make-over and was very comfortable and convenient. Wonderful fluffy towels. Staff were most attentive and helpful.

Review 43:Phone signal is lousy. Had a number of long distance business calls to make and lost the connection many times. Had to go outside to get a good signal . Unfortunately, I am sure this will deter business users from returning.

Review 44:Great location

Review 45:At check-in, the guy didn't say much + just threw our keys on the bed + walked out. Had to come home early because we couldn't get in after 11pm.

Review 46:Breakfast was first class. Spacious room, comfortable bed. Ideal location but a bit tatty on the outside. Good range of TV channels.

Review 47:The standard of our room. No mirror in the bedroom. Toilet seat broken. Room thermostat not working and temperature in room unbearably hot. Windows had to be opened thus hardly any sleep as room over car park.

Review 48:The catering was good.

Review 49:Apart from pub no real lounging area only one chair in bedroom.

Review 50:Lovely views from bedroom, great food and quiet location although popular with the locals.

Review 51:Considering the amount paid, customer service was very poor! Took half an hour for someone to come to the desk to check in! This deal included a 3 course meal for £30 that apparently doesn't exist! Took a while to be shown to to the table at night, no menu and wasn't offered a drink and then when checking out tried charging me for the food again! Shame dogs not allowed in garden as friends birthday and couldn't even sit and have a drink with them before the meal!

Review 52:The room, food and location was fantastic!

Review 53:We arrived late and were welcomed by happy staff who could t have been more helpfull. The food was excellent and obviously popular with locals. Our room had a view over Rutland water room 4. The room was in need of a few repaired but certainly not as bad as some reviews. Lovely breakfast too. Will return.

Review 54:Not a lot at all that I didn't like! I would just say that perhaps some things are looking a little tired and could do with a spruce up. This did not harm my stay in anyway which was very enjoyable.

Review 55:This quaint farmhouse type hotel was just in such a lovely place, with fabulous views of Rutland Water and lovely surrounding areas of little thatched cottages etc. The food was also delicious and beautifully presented. All staff were very pleasant and helpful.

Review 56:Massively overcharged for evening meal. This was satisfactorily settled after complaining. Upstairs unbearably hot even though not particularly hot summer weather. Too hot to sleep comfortably.

Review 57:Lovely location Comfortable accommodation Excellent food Mostly pleasant staff

Review 58:I could have done with a well lit mirror in the bathroom. I found the decor a bit grey and dull. A splash of colour would have helped.

Review 59:We visit the finches quite often as it is one of my favourite places for lunch. We stayed one night ,on this occasion, after a wedding at Hambleton Hall. The staff were very busy but all excellent. The room was spacious with a lovely big bathroom with an excellent shower. We had a tasty bar snack in the cosy lounge and an excellent breakfast in the dining room which has lovely views of Rutland water. I wish the weather had been good so we could have sat out on the attractive patio.

Review 60:The twin room was very small and tired looking with a hole in the wall above one of the beds. The mattresses need replacing and the shower cubicle had black mold in it! What a shame it's so in need of care and attention as I'm sure it was once a lovely place to stay.

Review 61:Food was very good and staff were very polite but the restaurant service was just OK. The setting overlooking Rutland water is beautiful.

Review 62:Quite a few things on the menu were not available, some fresh fruit at breakfast would have been nice. We were told to close the windows at night because of the midges, but there is no air con and the room temp was 29degrees C. We were given a fan which helped a bit, having said that there were no midges!

Review 63:Location was excellent. Food good. Comfy bed, lovely room, lovely Bathroom. Very quiet at night.

Review 64:Decor in corridors and main bedroom was a bit tatty. One of our window catches was broken and the mirror had fallen off the wall. There were no scones for the cream tea and we were told there was no sausage at breakfast but then 5 minutes later the chef found them. Staff were all nice but seemed disorganised. Room was nice but not worth £130.00 per night.

Review 65:Lovely views. Great bathroom. Food was nicely presented and of good quality.

Review 66:Room temperature was unbearably hot Bathrooms in need of redecoration and a hand held shower with no curtain is not adequate Reception should be manned or a bell provided

Review 67:Restaurant Friendly staff Good quality food Lovely patio area for outside dining Great location for long walks and cycling

Review 68:We booked and paid extra for a view of Rutland water but there was a massive marquee outside our bedroom window which obscured our view, this spoilt our experience as it was otherwise a lovely place ,

Review 69:The food was good in a nice setting .

Review 70:Not a £100/night more like £70 tops. Room 6 was very small and badly in need of spruce up. Squeaky bed and shower (we had bath option) either v hot or v cold !

Review 71:Lovely location and view from patio. Peacefull. We had excellent weather and ate breakfast outside. Food was excellent.

Review 72:Their information states "modern and luxurious" but it is neither. My room didn't get serviced at all one day and there isn't anywhere to put anything! No drawers or shelves and so everything got soaked in the bathroom, I had to use towels as bath mats as the floor gets so wet with condensation. The drawback with the view of the lake is that when you open the full length window everyone in the garden can see into the room. There was also a huge health and safety risk when the staff were cleaning the rooms as they left hoovers and bedding all over the floor so I had to step over it to get to my room. Staff weren't readily on hand except in the restaurant where they were very attentive.

Review 73:The food was excellent.

Review 74:The room was a bit too warm

Review 75:The atmosphere the food the staff are were very helpful and the place is just great. The rooms are very nice and comfortable and all in all a really good stay.

Review 76:The Full English Breakfast was at the best mediocre. With so few people participating you would have expected the breakfast would have been freshly cooked. It turned out to be as if you were in a very busy hotel with a buffet breakfast that had sat for a long time under the heaters. The quantities were hardly adequate with only one slice of bacon and that had suffered from being cooked much earlier. The eggs which were freshly cooked, had one under cooked on my meal.

Review 77:Beautiful situation overlooking Rutland Water. Very good food at a lunchtime 50th Wedding Anniversity and an evening meal for four. Rooms very good with excellent facilities.

Review 78:Old squeaky beds worn out paintwork. Ripped wallpaper. Too hot no air conditioning. One room not cleaned properly. Front desk a mess and often unmanned. Some staff very moody. Broken and grubby toilets in restaurant

Review 79:Food and the view

Review 80:At the evening meal we asked for a window table but were initially told all of those tables were reserved. When they were informed it was our special wedding anniversary, and we had informed them of this on booking, they gave us a window seat. NO other people arrived for the supposed reserved tables. This was very disappointing, although the rest of the evening was good.

Review 81:The tranquility, the excellent service at breakfast and friendliness at breakfast. The choice of table without any quibbles. Food outstanding.

Review 82:Bath leaked and soaked my husbands trousers Fire alarm went off in the morning and was really loud Show water was difficult to get a consistent temprature Card machine stopped working left my contact details as we were camping down the road for 4 night and was more than happy to come back and try again or go find a cash machine, so was told to expect a phone call to explain what was going on and I got nothing!

Review 83:Beautiful location Lovely food Bedrooms were great

Review 84:Food a little pricey

Review 85:Room 3 was absolutely stunning, huge terrace overlooking the lake, just beautiful.

Review 86:The restaurant was excellent although the menu was somewhat limited

Review 87:no chair in room

Review 88:Good food

Review 89:Room Heating control, shower control(too stiff to turn on). Breakfast service (bit disjointed).

Review 90:Location and food quality.

Review 100:Hate the wet room!

Review 101:Food!

Review 102:Paid for best room which needed refurbishment and at 7am terrible loud noise

Review 103:Good location in pretty village close to Rutland Water

Review 104:The hotel was v disappointing so much so we decided to leave and stay

Review 105:Could not find it easily - poorly signed.

Review 106:Atmosphere; menu; quiet; cask ale

Review 107:Rain-style overhead shower a little annoying for trying to not get your hair wet.

Review 108:Trendy room décor, excellent bed, delicious dinner and breakfast

Review 109:The staff were most attentive and friendly. The food in the restaurant was excellent. It was very peaceful with views over Rusland watre.

Review 110:room was very hot. advised not to open windows due to midges!

Review 111:food and location

Review 112:Sitting in the garden, food and ambience.

Review 113:Minor hiccup first morning satisfactorily resolved

Review 114:Accommodation and food

Review 115:The staff couldn't have done more for us if they tried, the room was of a high standard the view was amazing and the food out of this world
