Reviews for Annfield House Hotel
Review 1:3rd floor room had problem with hot water tap, secondary glazing rattled during the windy night I stayed keeping me awake(shame really as pretty much everything else was spot on)
Review 2:Great staff and brilliant menu well presented especially the sweets(home made)
Review 3:Housekeeping could have been a little better. had to ask for clean towels at one point.
Review 4:Town Centre location. Staff were generally very good. Food was also very good.
Review 5:When I arrived, there had been a mix up with my booking & my single room had been cancelled & booked by someone else. (It wasn't me that cancelled it), and only through my friends cancelling their booking, I was able to take their double room, but it was on the top floor(3 flights up) and as I have a bad spine and hips, it was a struggle getting up and down the stairs. The bar prices were a bit expensive, £4.55 for a Bacardi & can of Irn Bru. Apart from that, everything was hunky dory.
Review 6:My room was very comfortable, clean & had an En suite bathroom, but the shower was over a bath & not a shower cubicle.
Review 7:Shower
Review 8:Clean room good staff. I had a single front room very clean and comfy but very small inadequate electric shower.if you.re big like me and drop shampoo you.ll have to open the door to pick it up. In all I had a cheap room and enjoyed my stay. 3 minute walk to the high street and local pubs, take away etc... Would go back
Review 9:Hotel is located in a nice area and is very clean. The evening meals are to a good standard and come to the table quickly, the staff are efficient and friendly. The breakfast is also good.
Review 10:Breakfast was very average and not worth the money ie £5.95. Cooked breakfast was especially poor. Bacon very salty and dissapointing overall, as evening meal had been so good
Review 11:Evening meal, size of room and cleanliness were all very good
Review 12:The door to our room did not lock! I spoke to the reception and she said she would look at it, but it still wouldn't lock.. There was know one on reception when we arrived. We had to look for someone to help us. Not a good look when you first arrive.
Review 13:We liked the lovely stone building the proximity excellent. Very quiet.
Review 14:All the staff were very friendly & helpful, good location close to town centre, plenty of parking spaces, rooms were kept very clean & tidy.
Review 15:Costly room only. Thought I had booked breakfast, was my fault . The cost made me think breakfast was included. Wasn't paying anymore.
Review 16:Spacious room
Review 17:A great little guest house which I used as a base to play some local golf courses in the area. Everything you would expect and more from a relatively low cost guest house and would use again even if only for the breakfast!
Review 18:Shower cubicle was far to small, had fish for t seemed more batter than fish, chocolate fudge cake was overcooked, breakfast was ok but again slightly overcooked
Review 19:Staff were very friendly and helpful, located close to town, nice room
Review 20:Staff member on the day was not very helpfull and to the point of being rude when certain requests were made...for example pre agreed early check in and even a simple request for a receipt!! Would not stay again or recommend it to anybody else.
Review 21:Not a lot really.
Review 22:The bed was really uncomfortable as was the pillows, the shower was nothing more than a trickle and as we arrived late at 10.30pm we were ushered straight up to our rooms and told that it was quiet time and after such a long drive I would have liked to sit with a glass of wine in the bar to unwind before being ushered up to bed ....
Review 23:Water for bath/shower lukewarm. When staying at a guesthouse I would at least expect hot water available. The reason for the lukewarm water was that probably lots of folk had used the hot water at the same time but I tried to get a bath at 11pm and my friend a shower at 8am and both times lukewarm. No excuse nowadays as you can get systems that provide hot water all the time.
Review 24:Friendly staff, comfortable bed, clean and nice breakfast.
Review 25:staff/owners not very welcoming,w fii wouldn't work anywhere on either device, shower has no pressure.old 70/80s style tv with very poor picture took a while to get it to work! makes humming noise, poor breakfast service no cups had to search one out ,no toast offered, breakfast good though couldnt lock the door when i left but lockable from the inside.
Review 26:nice position, large car park.,evening meal good, large bedroom comfortable bed it is cheap though
Review 27:We had taken our room key with us as we left for the friend's party we were attending. (we realise that we probably shouldn't have). On our return at about 12.30ish, the door was locked and the night watchman was quite grumpy about being disturbed as he believed that all of the guests had returned for the night.
Review 28:the young woman who greeted us and checked us in was extremely pleasant and efficient.
Review 29:The only negative was the shower cubicle was tiny !
Review 30:The hotel was in a lovely setting. The staff were were very welcoming, courteous and helpful. The food was excellent value, especially the breakfast which set me up for the day. I'd certainly stay here again.
Review 31:No bad experiences, walk up 2 flights of stairs to the room was a minor inconvenience.
Review 32:Price, friendly staff, nice clean room.Choose the room only option, so not much else to comment on.
Review 33:'Prehistoric' small screen TV Banging head every time I used the toilet (sloping ceiling) No lift for disabled - 2 floors to negotiate
Review 34:Location Quiet Having a bar, dining room, cafe facilities Helpful, considerate staff
Review 35:room allocated on 2nd floor lots of stairs, but we managed and felt the room had character
Review 36:The staff were very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble
Review 37:The windows were sealed and there was no way to get fresh air into the room, a minus if one is there during the summer season.
Review 38:The bedroom was excellent an comfortable and had a fantastic view which all helped to feel at home for a long stay. The location is excellent as it was central and one did not need transport to the town center. The staff were excellent and made sure we were looked after. The cleaning staff member kept our room clean and tidy and respected ones privacy.
Review 39:The Wi-Fi would cut out and you would have to walk to the stairwell to be able to connect again, this was problematic when it was during the night and you were in your pj's. No elevator so you needed to carry your luggage upstairs.
Review 40:The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was clean and comfortable, the hotel had ample parking, the location was superb.
Review 41:The heating was off on arrival and it took some time for the building and my room (on the top floor) to warm up. Heating is costly but I would advise it is better to keep the heating running at all times , but at low temperature when guests are out, then increase temperature when during occupied hours. Big old buildings like Annfield take a long time to warm up from cold. It will not cost you more.
Review 42:Nice décor.
Review 43:Not staying longer
Review 44:The staff are very welcoming here, Arriving at 18:30 and after signing in I was asked if I was dining in or going out then informed of the times, shown to my room which was spotless, went down for evening meal which was served in good time and was very nice, the bed I had was very comftable and warm. I ordered breakfast for 08:00 but went down at 07:45 and it was freshly cooked for you while you had coffee and toast. All this at a very good price.
Review 45:We were there, primarily, for an 80th birthday on the Saturday evening which was very well catered. Stairs to top floor could be a little bit daunting for anyone not completely fit but, on the whole, we found no fault.
Review 46:Some new staff, one young lad couldn't care less, couple of the female staff were very good and were obviously workers. Kitchen made an mess of our orders on both nights, and our room was cold.
Review 47:The Breakfast was good, the evening meals were really good.
Review 48:No heating in bathroom, bedroom was cold owing to small radiator, high ceiling, and the heating which was there did not come on until about 0700 hours, for a relatively short period of time. Likewise in the evening.
Review 49:Full of character, a listed building, charming and welcoming. Excellent breakfast, evening meal and afternoon tea, with first-rate service. Reasonably priced bar. Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 50:Coffee at breakfast a Tad strong & by the time you put milk in its Luke warm. Coffee in room good
Review 51:Friendly, clean & plenty hot water breakfast was good
Review 52:Leaving!!
Review 53:Beautiful hotel and grounds, where we received a very warm welcome. We arrived early but our room was already available for us. The decor is lovely, the food was superb, both evening meal and breakfast, and the ladies in the restaurant were so friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Our room on the 1st floor was a good size and very comfortable. Location is great, just a short walk into town and a short drive to the shore. Free car parking is also a bonus. This was our first visit to Irvine during a short break around Scotland and would highly recommend staying here.
Review 54:As always, in Scotland, the bedroom could have been a lot warmer at times - further comment is superfluous. The bathroom was entirely functional, but basic. The menu was "samey", to put it mildly. But I guess the proprietors know their market a lot better than a transient "Sassenach". Like all UK hotels, it is expensive ; however, it served my purposes at the time and I expect - all other things being equal - to return in the fullness of time.
Review 55:The Annfield had availability for a seven night stay (price ok.) and a good location for my family and shopping in Irvine. The room was spacious, and I slept reasonably well there. Plenty of safe parking. Food was well cooked, and the staff were pleasant and friendly. I felt reasonably comfortable coming back to the Annfield for an evening/overnight after my business elsewhere.
Review 56:Put in an attic room, with seemingly very few other guests! The room was clean but general decor was tired. But with new wardrobe and cupboards it may have been work in progress.
Review 57:The staff, brilliant. Exceptionally courteous and helpful.
Review 58:Wifi in room didn't work. Also maybe a later check out time would be great.
Review 59:It was in a central location staff were friendly and food very good. Would definitely recommend.
Review 60:Our room was in the attic, quite small with limited head space. No reduction in price that I was aware of. Roast potatoes were from a frozen packet .... Let the quality of the meal done,
Review 61:Good price and location for our requirements. Good breakfast, lots of choice.
Review 62:Stayed four nights no carpet vacuumed until we requested on fourth day. Staff hung wet towels on top of each other on door peg. Breakfast coffee and tea from a flask. Our rating would be 5 at best .
Review 63:Quite location
Review 64:The bed was uncomfortable- too hard, and a request for alternative bedding (a blanket) could not be met. Windows need repainting/ replacing and curtain tracks needed attention so curtains could be drawn. French toast and mushrooms tasted as if they had been cooked in chip fat.
Review 65:The hotel was well situated and the view from our room was pleasant. Staff were always on call and tried to be helpful
Review 66:I would have liked the room cleaned everyday. I would also have liked fresh towels on a daily basis and more tea, coffee as we run out after the first day.
Review 67:The hotel was in a nice Central place in Irvine, the room was comfortable and apart from one day the room was cleaned each day. Breakfast was good with a wide selection to choose from.
Review 68:Rooms are tired and could do with refurbishing. Bed was not very comfortable. Guest lounge was not fit for purpose.
Review 69:Breakfast was excellent and really good value. Location is great.
Review 70:Not a thing.
Review 71:The hotel was ideally situated and priced for our 1 night stay, and with Breakfast included in the price this was a really good deal. The Staff are very friendly and welcoming, We have had a few meals in the Hotel in the past, but this was our first stay. Excellent stuff all round.
Review 72:Nothing
Review 73:5 minute walk to the town centre, 15 minute walk to the train station with great links to Glasgow. As a solo traveller it was nice to have the bar and restaurant on site. Staff friendly and helpful.
Review 74:Nothing.
Review 75:Large comfortable room with a nice outlook on a quiet street. Excellent parking, friendly and helpful staff and food quality was very good. Interesting area with easy walking and we would happily stay in this Hotel again.
Review 76:I've stayed here twice now and both times the staff have been friendly with 1st class service. The hotel is in a nice quiet location right in the center of Irvine close to everything. Good food too.
Review 77:I was put in a poky wee room more like a maids room but worse than that when I returned to the hotel I was locked out no sign of staff I had to sleep in a friends couch that night
Review 78:There was nothing I liked about this hotel
Review 79:The staff were first class, so helpful, attentive, accommodating, welcoming and friendly. I will definitely use this hotel again in the future. Superb :)
Review 80:attic room no view sky window no way to open window no way to close blind,Door lock could be better more secure. The stairs were a killer for older disabled people there is parking for disabled but no way is this hotel disable friendly and this should be on booking form.
Review 81:staff,meals.
Review 82:unable to open the bedroom windows - due to the age of the property and the type of property we were unable to open our window however this didn't interfere with our enjoyment, perhaps provide the option of a fan in rooms where the windows don't open? Also had to ask for the WIFI password, perhaps this would be better located in the welcome pack that is in each bedroom? No instructions on where to leave towels when they were finished with, again, a small note in the welcome book would suffice. Our visit was only for 2 nights so this wasn't an issue for us but if we were staying longer then we would have probably asked where to leave dirty towels.
Review 83:bedrooms were a brilliant size, lots of room, very comfortable, food was brilliant, well cooked and real food. Friendly and welcoming staff, who provided suggestions on exploring the local area, always there with a smile. cannot wait to visit again
Review 84:it's obviously a period house and up on the second floor there were sloping ceilings which were unavoidable. I lost count of the times I banged my head. The hotel whilst very good value for money was a bit tired, it needs a bit of revitalising
Review 85:Food was good and the staff were very friendly. Hotel was clean and comfortable.
Review 86:property had great character. staff are freindly and helpful. food was delicious.
Review 87:The bathroom not great at all

Review 93:Room decor and bathroom dated.

Review 95:Lovely friendly hotel, nice rooms and a great breakfast.
Review 96:poor shower in room .. no power and not hot enough
Review 97:Friendly and helpful staff. Quiet location.
Review 98:Rooms were spacious, light and airy. No street noise or lights to disturb one. Nothing was to much trouble staff were great.
Review 99:Bathroom was cold and I did not know how to turn any heating on.
Review 100:The amount of TV channels in bedroom was second to none, comfy bed and lovely staff
