Reviews for A La Péniche Durandal
Review 1:Spending a very tranquil evening enjoying the natural beauty of the area. Eating an exceptional meal served by very helpful staff. Eating a traditional french breakfast watching the ducks go by.
Review 2:Could not check in until 17.30 and no signage visible from the road. The bed was high off the ground and the deck could have done with a scrub.
Review 3:Great location on the Canal du Midi with a view to the loch, passing boats and cycle track. Nice shady section of the canal with its own restaurant behind and well lit path. Large room with good shower.
Review 4:No sign on the closed gate when you arrive - we wondered if it had closed unexpectedly and had to call to check we weren't lost. Whilst the WiFi is great in the rear two cabins, is is poor in the front of the boat.
Review 5:The hosts are superb - very friendly, multilingual and happy to help. Our 4 kids 8-15 had a wonderful introduction to the south of France and the hot tub was a hit after a long day's bike ride along the Canal Du Midi. The host's friendly dogs were also instant friends with our 8y.o.
Review 6:Not being able to arrive before 5:30means there is no time to enjoy facilities after lengthy welcome. Room small with a bed you have to climb up to. No hand towels and little space to lay out items. External access is unsafe as you have to step over a small wall and path is uneven. Even more difficult of you arrive by bike. Didn't sleep well due to noise of nearby autoroute and too hot to shut windows.
Review 7:Alain's welcome. If you are looking for a different experience this might be OK but if you are looking for just overnight accommodation then go somewhere else.
Review 8:Leaving at the end of our stay.
Review 9:Setting was beautiful and peaceful and mooring the peniche close to the fabulous L'Ecluse restaurant is a great business model. Dinner was excellent on both nights, but you will need to book in advance. The chef is our host's brother and Alain is a wonderful host who prepares and has breakfast with his guests. He is very sincere, funny, interesting and speaks excellent English. We will return!
Review 10:A bit tricky to carry bags on board.
Review 11:The owner, Alain makes you feel completely at home in his unique house on the Canal du Midi. His restaurant is on the bank next to the houseboat and you don't have to worry about driving home after a few wines. The view out of the porthole of the ducks gently paddling past.
Review 12:The bed is very high even though we are both tall it was a bit hard to climb into. no fan in the cabin although the breeze thru the window was nice. You could hear noise but I thought it was from the trains.
Review 13:Exceptional service especially from the owner who went beyond the norm for us when we got our arrival wrong and they were full. The restaurant attached was also great both value and quality.
Review 14:Bit close to noisy motorway. Would have liked tea or coffee making facilities.
Review 15:The host was Fantastic very helpful and spent time .with with everyone.breakfast was delicious.we had aperatives together each e evening which was lovely.
Review 16:Nothing to complain at
Review 17:The couple who ran it are fantastic - giving us a lift to the cycle hire place, translating conversation between us and the french couples staying during the daily 7pm welcome drinks. They are there if you need them, or maintain their distance if that's what you prefer. Rooms are comfortable and full of character. Also enjoyed the restaurant they own.
Review 18:no cushions on the sun loungers towels provided grey hard and very old
Review 19:Interesting place to stay
Review 20:the proximity with a motorway, even if we could not hear it a lot, it would just be fantastic to be far away from it.
Review 21:The location: on the river. The super friendly owners, and how they welcome and spend time with guests. The special way of sleeping on the boat
Review 22:The location of the boat, at the time we stayed, we could hear the close motorway noise as well as a side road
Review 23:The concept of sleeping in a boat, the friendliness of the owners, the breakfast with other guests and the owners.
Review 24:Alain was great. The restaurant next store was wonderful. We stayed one night while cycling the canal du midi. This was a great opportunity to spend a night on the canal.
Review 25:There was nothing that we did not like or enjoy about our stay.
Review 26:The barge was delightful, in a beautiful setting, with an excellent restaurant next door, where the food was some of the best we had during our holiday. Alain our host was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble. anything we needed we only had to ask. Our homeward flight was cancelled and Alain did everything possible to help us organise our return journey We would all highly recommend the Barge for its comfort, beauty and excepetional hosts. Wish we could have stayed longer.
