Reviews for The Royal Hotel

Review 1:Got keys for room at 2 pm the receptionist took us to room but room was Baltic she put a small heater on as room was freezing said she would try and do something with the heating ,,,we went out as room was to cold when we came back just after 5 pm the heaters were still not on so complained again they said heating was on a time switch eventually came on 5/30 pm

Review 2:Nice room although it was a upgrade was really nice ,,,very clean specially wet room

Review 3:staff very accommodating. our first room was a little cold , but on speaking to the bar manager in the evening we were moved in minutes the 2nd room was much warm and better value for money

Review 4:Building interior was tired, needs updating. No lifts to any floor and we were on top floor, both of us in our late 60's

Review 5:Friendliness of the staff and always prepared to do that little bit extra. The location in centre of town.

Review 6:Getting into our room after 3pm and then told the heating wouldn't come on until 4-30 on a cold wet Friday stayed here before sometime ago and the rooms haven't changed they need some updating

Review 7:Bar and restaurant are very nice staff were pleasant

Review 8:Pillows in the room were like sand bags, cooked breakfast was barely warm only the beans were hot. Also the door to room very heavy and difficult to push/pull open, my mum has bad arthritis in her hands and was unable to open the door due to the weight of it

Review 9:Location, friendly staff

Review 10:Paid for booking with AMEX card. Hotel refused to take AMEX card for payment. Should have been notified for this somewhere along the way !!

Review 11:They offered a buffet style breakfast during several days of our stay.

Review 12:The property is old and outdated . The room smelled damp and stale . It is poorly ventilated with mildew on window timbers. The bedroom window opens out onto overgrown weeds and shabby carpark . Very disappointed with accomodation . Staff are friendly and welcoming . We will not be returning to The Royal Hotel .

Review 13:The hotel was comfortable and the staff friendly. There was a good amount of parking. The hotel provided a good range of food and the breakfast was very nice.

Review 14:car parking is a bit restricted at times due to size of car park.

Review 15:This was our 4th stay at this hotel which says everything!! We will be back next year :-)

Review 16:As there was a Music Festival on in the area at the same week end this made the Hotel busy and caused restricted Car parking availability for the Hotel car park.

Review 17:The Hotel was in a convenient location for our needs and suited our stay.

Review 18:We went to Scotland for the Open golf at St Andrews, this hotel was a suitable distance from the course, so suited our needs. It was clean & tidy the food was good quality, staff were very helpful & informative of places to see.

Review 19:Whole place needs complete renovation, worst hotel we have stayed in . No lounge area except for dark & dingy bar area. Difficulty finding reception staff even to pay the bill.

Review 20:Only the location

Review 21:Parking, we were lucky we had gotten a space but very limited.

Review 22:Staff made it for us, enjoyed their banter and helpfulness, have had a chuckle as think one of the girls did not understand my other half's Border tongue. Hotel had character.

Review 23:We were expecting a superior room. What we got was a very poorly decorated room with a small opaque window backing on to the kitchen giving us fumes from the deep day fryer!

Review 24:Room was terrible. We were in the annexe - it needs demolishing and re-building. Fittings & furniture seemed to be at least 50 years old; clothes hangers were 6 random ones probably left by previous guests.

Review 25:Breakfast

Review 26:Town was a bit quiet but hotel was fine.

Review 27:Central hotel, very friendly staff and upgraded to a better room on arrival The shower was awesome! Good breakfast too.

Review 28:Downtrodden state of rooms, although clean, quite old, damp stained curtains and pictures on walls, old bathroom, with black mildew round window edges, old fashioned decor.

Review 29:Reasonably priced

Review 30:As there is no heating in the corridors, it was cold although there was a very good radiator in the room which you had to turn on. There did not seem to be heating in the shower room. The car park was always full but parking on local roads was fine.

Review 31:This was the only place left to book in Blairgowrie for the night we needed to stay. It is central and places to eat are within walking distance.

Review 32:Ground floor windows didn't close properly, other external doors just left wedged open and very limited car parking other than for local roadworkers and their vehicles !

Review 33:Good location

Review 34:Car park not big enough struggled to park both days. Hotel needs some TLC rooms a little dated. The standard rooms are poor for the price charged but would recommend the superior rooms if choosing to stay here.

Review 35:The staff are exceptional, nothing was too much trouble. The location is right in centre of town and very easy to find.

Review 36:room and furniture was very old fashioned with wood chip wallpaper, felt like i was in the spare bedroom of my grans house.

Review 37:Staff were extremely friendly and helpful, excellent food.

Review 38:Too much noise coming from what sounded like a generator from just outside my room window which continued all through the night. People in next room could be heard very easily. Even tried to sleep on the floor in the bathroom with the door shut to drown out the noise of the generator but this also proved difficult as could hear people next door using the toilet and also the toilet gurgling at one point!! No view from window just looked out onto part of roof of building.

Review 39:Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was clean.

Review 40:Superior room did not look like that shown on the internet. Bed was in alcove and you could not see window from the bed. Room was small with limited seating. If this room was superior the normal rooms must be dreadful. Breakfast from the server was luke warm and only fried eggs were avail able in the server. No lift available and room was on second floor.

Review 41:Convenient for local shops and restaurants

Review 42:No heat in bathroom. Poor standard of room 60.Route to room in annexe,we expected to be in the Royal hotel not negociating a series of corridors throughout a run down building linked to the hotel by a fire door which was un done all night. Room heater an inefficients electric wall heater.

Review 43:Food was good. Location was good.

Review 44:Room could have been warmer but this was one of the coldest nights of the yearc

Review 45:Staff very helpful as I am disabled and there was no lift but due to staff consideration this was no problem

Review 46:nothing no hote watere

Review 47:nothing no 1 to help u when got there had wat about 10 mins on some come take ur room no internet in rooms not nothing do had come to bar go on line that not gd noth from ur hotel geve 3 out off 10

Review 48:Bit dated and £70 for the night overpriced ... Considering premier inns on average range from between £50-£80..... Would we stay again ... Yes if the price was more realistic £50 would be there or there abouts

Review 49:Location very good although it was very quite .... Stayed midweek though

Review 50:Alas not the best poached eggs I have ever had.

Review 51:Location, Parking, Good Food. The Staff were about the friendliest and helpful I have had the pleasure to be served by in many a time. Bar suppers very good. Quality Beer. Very nice gantry.

Review 52:staff friendly was most important and was fine.Nice clean comfortable room important and it was fine. Many thanks to the barlady and bar manager, Gary. Breakfast was excellent as well. No attention to detail was missed.

Review 53:the first room we were offered was disgraceful. there was a leak in the ceiling, and the shower was the dirtiest I have ever encountered. we were moved to a supposedly superior room, which was better, but still not up to standard I expected. rooms definitely require upgrading

Review 54:staff were friendly

Review 55:Nothing.

Review 56:Friendly staff, good breakfast in nice dining room. We had dinner in the hotel bar and that was very good as well.Excellent value for the price as we stayed in Jury's Hotel in Aberdeen the previous week for 4 times the cost and while the room etc was what you would expect for a 4 star hotel the overall experience was not any better, would definitely return to the Royal Hotel.

Review 57:The decor of the bedroom wing our room was in was a little dated, and the car park is quite small - but these are very minor moans. Very happy overall.

Review 58:the hotel is well placed in the centre of Blairgowrie. The bar was very comfortable and served very nice evening meal. The rooms were clean and excellent value. Above all the staff went out of their way to be helpful.

Review 59:The staff were all lovely and very helpful. Maureen the owner was very nice and welcoming. (Her staff were full of admiration for her). She served the breakfasts herself and the meals were all good and piping hot. Would definitely go back again.

Review 60:Room was very dated with a badly stained carpet . Would not consider it worth 76 pound a night I've stayed in far better for half that price . Also we were seated and waited 45 minutes for someone to take our breakfast order but breakfast was lovely . Hotels gorgeous downstairs ... Upstairs not so much .

Review 61:Location , bar, modern decor downstairs , comfy bed

Review 62:We upgraded to a superior room and would not class this as superior-very basic and a view of a roof top. Felt a bit expensive for what we got. Not the usual little extras like even some toiletries = to us it was just a basic room.

Review 63:Staff were friendly and location.

Review 64:...well I deduct last decorated in '81 from the original print above the bed and the anaglipta wall paper. The filth in the bathroom on the floor around the towel radiator was years old (not a just missed last time) the mould in the shower replaced the grout. The hotel is run down and needs a lot of investment. Which is very odd as normally in a hotel like this the staff are dejected as well. But not the case here the staff were helpful chatty and a delight 5* to the staff 1* to the establishment....

Review 65:Front of house and bar Staff are fantastic. Breakfast was very nice

Review 66:would be better to have wifi in your room.some tv channels were scrambled and unviewable

Review 67:the food was fantastic, staff friendly and pleasant, bar and restaurant facilities were excellent.liked how you could get a packed lunch instead of breakfast.rooms were basic but comfortable

Review 68:Rooms need updating. They were clean, tidy and functional but old. Also poor access to wi-fi. Could just get a signal downstairs but not in my bedroom. Not an issue for me but business people might not like it.

Review 69:Staff great and friendly, location great.

Review 70:three large windows facing in close area's heavy traffic coming from both sides of the room till very late. no sink stopper for washing in the bathroom and a fog horn noise repeatedly coming from somewhere. not restful. it was clean and a lovely bathroom with shower also a good cooked breakfast. I think this hotel will suffer from the traffic as it is in the middle of the town. the staff were very friendly. my overall view is apart from not sleeping well with noise on this occasion, I would say an average hotel and good staff. Ms Maxwell Edinburgh

Review 71:good location.

Review 72:Small shower room. Slow service at breakfast. No dinner when we checked in due to kitchen closed. Times should be advertised.

Review 73:Friendly staff.Comfortable room. Very handy for our golf tee time. Free parking.

Review 74:The toilet flush stopped, felt like the connector from the handle to the gubbins embedded in the wall had fallen off. This was at 11pm had to fill the waste bucket with water to flush what a pity!

Review 75:tired decor freezing room didn't feel very safe in room as solo female wi-fi never seemed to work after 10.30 pm bathroom mouldy, dingy and poor shower

Review 76:wi-fi - free room clean bed comfy great location

Review 77:the room was in great need of decoration the window was filthy although the bedding and towels were spotless, there was a disco on on our second night and sleep was very limited due to the noise, i did complain but to no avail, if you are looking for peace and quiet to sleep don't come here terrible racket! even after the disco finished lots of noise from outside the hotel not really very good when they have residents in

Review 78:the staff were excellent, friendly and very helpful couldn't fault the service at all, breakfast was very good too

Review 79:On arrival my sister in law and myself were shown to our rooms. The shower in room 66 needs updating and a good clean. Hot water tap didn't have any water!! There was a 60th birthday event in the hotel and I was woken up at 2am with the noise above me. I phoned night porter at 3.30ish to report the noise and asked to b moved but hotel was full. The noise continued until 4.30ish. Never again. A refund would be a gesture !

Review 80:Location was good.

Review 81:Inefficient check-in. reduced room charge only to raise it again. Stale/damp smelling room. Disgusting shower - mouldy &evidence of prev occupant! No breakfast before 8am - take it or leave it attitude of staff. Noisy party until early hours.

Review 82:Location easy to find but apart from that - nothing.

Review 83:It seems very odd that under 18s that are resident are not allowed in the bar area even if not trying to purchase alcohol. Car parking was very limited only 12 spaces, we were in a room in the 70s. The rooms are very dated.

Review 84:Breakfast was very good always hot.Staff always happy to help. Rooms comfortable and clean tea and coffee filled on a daily basis. The hotel even offered to dry our clothes if we became wet on the hills. You could order a packed lunch if you required one.

Review 85:We had 2 rooms next door to each other. From 11.30pm onwards the fire door outside our rooms was used as main entrance and exit for the hotel. Door remained open entire night. My husband closed it twice and it was reopened. After 11.30 guests are instructed to phone the number on a card given on check in, to gain access to the hotel. My husband called this number at 1.45am and was told by night porter that he had been instructed to leave the door open as so many guests were out late that night. The constant traffic of people continued until 4am. We are not talking about a few people here, I mean people were in and out ever 5 minutes and understandably, they were not quiet. We had our 2 young daughters with us and had we been able to, we would have left during the night. The safety of all hotel guests was compromised by this door being left ajar the whole night. On bringing the events of the night to the attention of staff next morning, we were asked to speak to the manager when she came on duty at 11am. We had to hang around exhausted, until she came on duty. She apologised, as did other staff, and refunded payment for the coming night. In short, we still had to pay for a night in a hotel where we were given rooms it was totally impossible to get any sleep in and where out safety was compromised the whole night. This is wrong on so many levels.

Review 86:Location and food

Review 87:The entry from the parking lot into the side door is pretty bad. There were people outside drinking and lots of garbage. Could have been a lot cleaner.

Review 88:The menu was good.

Review 89:Couldn't shut windows properly in room 68, toilet and brush dirty , shower door dirty , curtains with holes and didn't close properly - couldn't sleep with noise from not being able to shut windows

Review 90:Staff were very friendly and accommodating

Review 91:Playing golf at Blairgowrie golf club for 3 days the Royal Hotel offered a perfect location and the staff were the friendliest I've encountered for a Long time in a budget hotel.

Review 92:The Hotel is tired and dated - as are some of the staff. They attempted to charge me £57 for an evening meal I didn't have. The conversation about this was such that I felt I had to produce receipts for my evening meals on the two nights from the Weatherspoons pub two doors down from the Hotel. Which, by the way, was terrific for quality, value, staff, and the general buzz ! After 5 minutes of frustrating conversation about this meal it was conceded that I wouldn't be charged for "my food" !!!! .........I had even been told, on checking in, to present my room card with my signature should I wish to charge anything to my room. Apparently though they don't operate their own system. They also need you to tell them at what time you'll present yourself for breakfast. I booked for 7.30 on the 2nd morning. My room number was on the table at 7.30, but the breakfast cereals / juices table was still being set up at 7.45 and my order not taken till 7.50. The breakfast was half the size of the previous mornings. No idea why. No evidence of customer focused management. I suggest they have a staff night out in Weatherspoons - it could be a fun learning experience.

Review 93:The price, and location are good.

Review 94:We werent expecting our room to be ready at noon when we arrived but were disappointed it still hadnt been cleaned by 5.30 p.m. Apparently a lot of late check outs that day but surely not as late as that. However it was sorted out when we complained.

Review 95:Location of the hotel. Had dinner in restaurant at night and this was very good but a wee bit expensive for steaks.

Review 96:This Hotel is tired and really needs a facelift, wood chip wallpaper everywhere convection heaters in rooms if you are in the extension you are in a very run down part of what must have been a great building years ago...

Review 97:The location was great for the event we attended very central location over looking the town centre. The staff should be commended on their hospitality "Highland hospitality at its finest" It is very hard to criticise the place with this kind of treatment thanks to all concerned from the cleaners to the receptionist brilliant!
