Reviews for Redcliffe Hotel

Review 1:I had no adverse experiences whatsoever at the Redcliffe Hotel.

Review 2:The staff were very helpful and courteous at all times. The location is excellent as is the ambience of the hotel. The breakfast was first class. I will definitely return in the future.

Review 3:We didn't realise until the last night that we could have had a bar snack meal which would have saved us going out in the rain. Our fault not theirs, but it could maybe publicised in the room.

Review 4:Location, cleanliness and helpful staff.

Review 5:The plastic flowers have to go ! Only 2 tea bags in room , no biscuits or tissues ?

Review 6:Food excellent , all staff but one friendly & helpful . Location brilliant , , , quiet and scenic .

Review 7:Blankets not duvet on bed. High up wall window was level with my chin to see out and only gave view of roof(rooms 109 & 110). Gym equipment dated.

Review 8:Location. Staff were helpful when problem with smell of paint in room and arranged room move.

Review 9:Excellent views, slightly away from main tourist streets. Staff very friendly and helpful.Rooms clean and comfortable (we did not have sea views). We visited a couple of local NT properties and also Dartmouth (which was very lively).

Review 10:More plug sockets would be a bonus but we made do, and I had to think very hard to come up with something we didn't like.

Review 11:Our room was smaller than might be expected in a more modern hotel but was perfectly adequate. Spa facilities were superior to those found in more expensive hotels. Good breakfast.

Review 12:The hotel badly needs a major refurbishment and the food at a special lunch event was poor

Review 13:The location and friendliness of the staff - and the breakfast was good

Review 14:Breakfast did not start until 7.45am. Breakfast was of poor quality and not much of it . Shower in my son's room did not work and when reported this to the Receptionist upon leaving she was disinterested. Bed was uncomfortable .

Review 15:Spacious bedroom.

Review 16:no air con.. room was unbearably hot and stifling, was unable to sleep even with a fan... i travelled with 1 yr old grandaughter.. 6 steps leading to entrance no ramp for pushchair... wanted to take her in pushchair to pool again staircase down no ramp or lift to go to pool...

Review 17:within easy walking distance of town centre but just far enough away from the noise

Review 18:Afternoon tea was very poor, one stale scone each and a pot of cream slopped in a bowl. Dinner difficult to pay for and the staff caused a small scene, embarrassing me.

Review 19:Breakfast was excellent and the room comfortable. Location was great.

Review 20:The hotel is tired and could do with a refurb but is good value for a three star hotel when you are able to pick up a last minute deal.

Review 21:I have stayed at the Redcliffe before, the location is excellent, the staff always friendly and helpful and the facilities, pool etc very good for a three star Hotel.

Review 22:The only improvement we can think of is Air conditioning

Review 23:The whole experience was very enjoyable. We made good use of the Gym and Swimming Pool. Food and Service was excellent.

Review 24:We came back after a long day walking, in the hope of grabbing some food at the bar, but they stop serving at 8.30pm and we were told to go back out to find a restaurant! Their "formal" dining room doesn't allow jeans or trainers... Really? It's a 3 star hotel, who are they expecting to stay?! At breakfast we had a table right by the windows, but the blinds were closed, I asked if we could open them and the waitress said no because it was sunny and would be "dangerous" (sun in my eyes I am assuming) I ignored her and opened our blind anyway... Nothing happened (apart from breathtaking views) Don't expect the hotel access from beach to be unlocked. We saw the door open from the beach and made our way up the narrow rusty stairs (with a baby and pushchair) along the interior tunnel and up the windy stone staircase to then find the interior hotel door locked! Had to go all the way back. The outdoor pool was closed (no big deal but a bit disappointing in August!) All in all, it didn't effect our stay too much but I do think that some of the staff need to loosen up a bit.

Review 25:The hotel is in a brilliant location, right on the beach and a short walk to town and the arcades/pier. The actual facilities are great, the indoor pool, jacuzzi and saunas are very clean and have a member of staff on duty. There is a children's outdoor play area in the grounds (just out the back door from the inside pool) with a mini putting green - it was hard to drag my 2 year old away to take him to the beach! The gardens, terrace and views were lovely, they also have a pool table in the bar area (50p to play) Ok, so the bedding and curtains were a bit flowery and out of fashion (along with the carpets) but it's in keeping with the charm of the hotel, most importantly - it was all clean. Another plus was the bathroom, it was huge! I would say the room with a sea view is worth the extra, it was glorious. Breakfast was great! LOADS of choice and good quality.

Review 26:A personal preference, I found the bed slightly too firm. Location of hotel was good - but Paignton itself is difficult to navigate around, lots of one way streets - so more detailed directions would have been helpful.

Review 27:The breakfast was lovely, a choice of cold food and then hot food cooked to order. Both the indoor and outdoor swimming pool facilities were clean and well kept - and not too crowded. Love that they had books around for guests to read - particularly the Dick Francis ones. The hotel was a nice short walk from the town centre, beaches, pier, steam trains and cinema.

Review 28:Outside swimming pool not open. Access to beach not available. being the 1st week in July we were expecting this to be included.

Review 29:Nice room with sea view and balcony. Staff very helpful and friendly.

Review 30:I couldn't get an internet connection on my phone despite the router being outside our room.

Review 31:Our room with a balcony had an incredible panoramic sea view. The hotel has a nice friendly atmosphere and the staff are very helpful. The choice and quality of breakfasts was good too.

Review 32:A lovely grand hotel. Stayed for one night. Room 67 with own balcony. Bar and restaurant very nice serving a splendid breakfast in the morning. Staff exceptional

Review 33:Our room (No.66) was at the back on the north side. It was smaller than we had expected from the photos and the view of the sea was not very extensive. As mentioned elsewhere, the bed was on the hard side. There is a very busy road around the northern perimeter of the hotel which was quite noticeable as we had to have the windows and doors open as the weather was humid.

Review 34:The location was good and the gym and indoor pool were excellent. We were worried that three weddings were booked for the weekend but, in fact, the hotel managed them very well and we did not hear anything in the evenings when the discos were running. The position is very good for visits to Torquay, Brixham, Babbacombe etc.

Review 35:the setting of this hotel is second to none. Set directly beside the sea in the middle of the bay the views are second to none. I would love to return for a longer stay!!

Review 36:Omg .... everything about this hotel needs updating from furniture, wall paper, bathrooms, carpets .... everthing. It felt like the furniture hadn't been replaced for decades

Review 37:cheap price , nice staff and amazing location

Review 38:Stay was short couldn't fault anything.

Review 39:Friendly staff, comfortable bed. Having parking. Excellent breakfast Room comfortable bathroom clean and nicely decorated

Review 40:The bed was not very comfortable and on the second night a noisy event in the ballroom kept us awake until quite late.

Review 41:The location was perfect and this was enhanced by the good food and service. Bar prices were reasonable.

Review 42:The bed was horrendously uncomfortable with the springs digging in. Could do with better mattresses.

Review 43:The updated bathroom was quite nice and the breakfast was good. Still an old style establishment in a good situation. Interesting story about the actual building itself.

Review 44:Last visited this hotel in 1976. It has kept all of its charm and was just as I remembered it. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Will definitely be back again.

Review 45:Instructions needed in room for switching on wall lights, electric shower, & TV. Slow bar service.

Review 46:Pleasant & helpful staff. Recently updated & refurbished room. Dinner & breakfast good. Quick checkout.

Review 47:Although given the Wifi password, could not log on - I didn't phone the reception to complain as it was not really that important for me but probably would annoy others.

Review 48:Good shower, crisp sheets, very clean room, friendly, helpful and obliging staff.

Review 49:Wifi range didn't extend to all rooms or lounge.

Review 50:Location, comfort, & period style of hotel decor. Excellent meals & service. Swimming pool (better if water temperature problem gets fixed)

Review 51:the bathroom let you down ,the shower had no pressure the hotter you went the slower it got, worst I have ever come across needs sorting ,the bathroom suite was poor low grade no complimentary soap shampoo,or shelves to put stuff on1st hotel that I had to complain about this

Review 52:old fashion type of charm about the place ,the pool and spar facilities were excellent ,the view from dining area was superb, reception staff were very helpful .

Review 53:Very poor WiFi service which as far as I am concerned is unacceptable in this day & age especially when advertised. Noise from parties the 2 nights I stayed there without any warning or acknowledgement or offer of compensation.

Review 54:Staff were friendly. Location was good. Facilities OK.

Review 55:Bed wasn't the comfiest bed but was still ok other then that I can't fault the place

Review 56:This was our first time at the Redcliff and I know I will be back! Amazing hotel for 3* great location and good history

Review 57:The lady in the bar very unhelpful. Our travelling companion requested a cup of hot water which was refused even though the lady in the bar had to go to the kitchen to get the coffee my husband and I requested. Also small shampoo etc should be placed in the rooms. Having run a small hotel myself even our basic rooms had toiletries in for the traveller who may have forgotten.

Review 58:Location and parking good.

Review 59:I asked for tomato and bacon but thought I might have had more than one small rasher and the toast was rather soggy.

Review 60:The hotel was warm and inviting staff were very friendly and the bedroom was tastefully decorated.

Review 61:Room94 allocated to me was a very small and VERY VERY Cold room due to lack of double glazing. I did get it changed on request later, but I should not have been allocated such a room at the normal rate

Review 62:I don't want my bed making while I'm having breakfast. I suspected this might happen but my room didn't have any 'do not disturb' signs. I was going to lie in the bed to make some calls and texts but felt this wasn't a good idea with the bedding changed for the next guest. No guest soap or shampoo in the room also a bit cheap

Review 63:Breakfast. View. Location. Swimming pool & sauna

Review 64:Very dated bedrooms, room was very stuffy, bad decor, could do with a spice up in terms of gloss paint and emulsion. Shower was also poor.

Review 65:Views excellent and staff were very helpfull

Review 66:Nothing not to like. Everything was great. First class

Review 67:Looking for a hotel for one night and came across this hotel. Staff were fab. Breakfast was really excellent. Liked it so much stayed an extra night. Definitely going to go back .

Review 68:Hotel had modern facilities although maintained the old fashion feel very well. A nice place to relax good food too and the staff were attentive

Review 69:We did not like our special request for no stairs or lift being ignored when booked into a second floor. The least we expected was notice of their inabilty to comply before travelling as a matter of courtesy at least. We also noted a few goings on in the restuarant in particular by unchecked elder staff. Perhaps not significant but concerning was warmed up milk left overs being poured back into the chilled server when recovering tables, and leaving cheeses out for the entire evening dinner session withought ice or chilling during a heat wave. Our allocated turret room was just adequate but seriously in need of a referb. I actually took some pictures to remind me of how much some hotels put profit before service. Respect is about action, not rhetoric without meaning.

Review 70:In general we had be patient and tolerant dealing with a self proclaimed staff that needs training of courtesy, correctness, and health and safety.

Review 71:The Radcliffe is well located on the seafront with its own private access to the beach. There is a leisure club with indoor pool and steam room, jacuzzi and sauna as well as a heated outdoor pool. The rooms are airy and clean and the staff friendly and polite. Pete MacDonald

Review 72:we stayed in the tower on 2nd floor. nice room but only a small window. room very hot. no fans available at reception to use. shower was either boiling hot or freezing cold. .

Review 73:very friendly staff, excellent breakfast. clean rooms.

Review 74:Shower very difficult to operate. TV didn't work properly. WiFi unavailable in room despite claim by hotel that WiFi is available throughout the property. Dining very ordinary.

Review 75:Location. Cleanliness. Friendly staff.

Review 76:Room supposed to be seaview. very dingy small room on the end corner of building. Just a side view of the sea and kitchen's below us. Expected better. stayed in other hotels that week in cornwall same money much better rooms.

Review 77:The view from the hotel across the sea

Review 78:Wifi did not work in my room (58). Bed very hard. Also springs were uncomfortable to lie on. Room very basic. But the price wasnt.

Review 79:Staff were fantastic. Very well organised. Food was excellent.

Review 80:single sheet loo roll and soap dispensers gave the room an "institutional" feel. There are guest houses and hotels with better facilities close by.

Review 81:Our dad's single room was tiny(73). The bar meals were disappointing, we preferred the look of the restaurant menu but only wanted a main course it was a shame they weren't priced separately.

Review 82:We liked our twin room, spacious with a nice view(85) We also enjoyed the indoor swimming pool area. The staff were very pleasant .

Review 83:Beautiful Hotel, felt really spoilt. Staff were lovely and my room was gorgeous. The breakfast was lovely too. Would stay again, for longer next time!!
