Reviews for Hallmark Hotel Irvine

Review 1:Decor as I'm a painter and decorator I don't like seeing soap scum down the walls next to the sink (cleaner could wipe this off) Or the wallpaper bubbling and peeling (looks like it's been tarted up to sell it quick) I.e for the take over from menzies! And our sink had 2 cracks (never leaked though)

Review 2:Staff friendly, breakfast great everyday and family room was a great size.

Review 3:1st breakfast was very unorganised,it really needed a supervisor on hand however 2nd breakfast was very good, room 115 needs a good clean round vents and above lights to remove dirt and cobwebs

Review 4:Nice location

Review 5:Dog allowed only in the room. It's nice if you can sit in the bar and have a drink and take the dog with you. Did'nt see any dog bins outside. Irvine is full of roundabouts and you need a sat nav to find it.

Review 6:The rooms are a good size and very clean. Lots of grass area's round the hotel for the dog to exercise, although pretty water logged when we were there.

Review 7:Poor organisation of staff and time management skills. Poor mentor ship of young staff. Rooms were dirty. Barking dogs, cleanliness and hygiene in main dining room. Health and safety issues.

Review 8:Friendly staff, location,

Review 9:Breakfast was limited, although I didnt ask for anything different from what was on the small buffet. Would have been nice to have a pool like some of the sister hotels.

Review 10:Dinner, Bed and Breakfast package was great. Dinner was wonderful.

Review 11:The only little thing was the shower wasn't great, could do with a little more power!

Review 12:The staff were amazing, so friendly and helpful. The food was fabulous.

Review 13:I came across a lot of bugs crawling all over the bedroom and bathroom and stains on the toilet and bathtub/shower which didn't have any power or heat it to. The bed was disgusting. There was a build up of dust everywhere. Mould. Torn wall paper. The whole building was in bad condition other than the reception which was misleading to the rest of the hotel. The staff were rude. My room did not get serviced on the first night by house keeping. The T.V. Remote was sticky. Marks on the majority of towels, clearly had not been cleaned. Cups were filthy. The money was not worth it in the slightest. The food was overly priced and the hotel offered a 24 hour takeaway service, yet this did not run most nights. There was too much noise late into the night with parties and karaoke being held in the reception. The fire alarm went of twice in the space of an hour with incompetent staff who could not work the system to reset it. The hotel didn't even have an ironing board, I asked for one at the reception and the staff told me I'd get one right away, it took 20 minutes of waiting for a staff member to come to my room and tell me that there was none when I could have been saved this waste of time and told by reception they didn't have any. I would not suggest this hotel to anyone and they also like to use the excuse they are rebranding but perhaps if they used the money from the overly priced food and room for such a dump of a hotel to actually refurbish the hotel and not only for the refurbishment of the reception then it would maybe become worth while and worth the money.

Review 14:Nothing

Review 15:Took two hours to have a two course meal on the second night. Long time between being asked order and receiving food and also from finishing food to second order.

Review 16:Lovely room - given an upgrade and was fantastic. Friendly staff. Good Christmas entertainment.

Review 17:Very smoke filled hotel Broken furniture Uninformed staff Immature levels of professionalism The fire bell sounded on too many occasions Breakfast was cold Staff too busy chatting to serve guests Cream for coffee was curdled

Review 18:On the evening there was 2 female members of staff who had good customer service skills however the problems were out of their hands.

Review 19:Very responsive and attentive staff helped as I am disabled - from room location to excellent service in the restaurant particularly from floor manager Kelly. I had vegan friends coming for lunch and chef readily agreed to cater to their needs. They were impressed and rated the food highly.

Review 20:On the final night we got no sleep due to a VERY noisy wedding party. They ran up and down the corridor shouting and banging doors up to 4am. VERY annoyed.

Review 21:The location is close to my daughter.

Review 22:It had been a very long day. A double whisky - Highland Park - at the end of it in the bar was £10.60. Ouch!! I may bring my own next time!

Review 23:Very pleasant check-in person. The room was very quiet and comfortable. My son and I slept very soundly. Food fairly good though I have never seen whisky being offered as a "topping" for porridge before!

Review 24:There was no shampoo on second day of stay, or bath products. You know what to expect when you book into a Travelodge but not expected this from a 4* hotel.

Review 25:Breakfast although i had to ask for scrabbled eggs this use to be ready for you, but not on Tuesday 27/10/15

Review 26:we went down for a bar meal as we normally do that, because it is quicker than the restaurant. it took nearly 2 hours from start to finish. we sat there for ages before going up to the bar(waitress used to serve us, not now its under new management) every time we wanted anything, it was back up to the bar, where we were ignored as they dried cutlery or talked amongst themselves. it was like no-one knew what to do. i finally had enough when i ordered cheese for dessert, 20min later i went up to pay for it, we didnt get the offer of a tab at the beginning, and just took it up to the room. we stay here quite a lot, but not sure we will be back as the service is not what it used to be, the rooms are looking a bit tired, ours had most of the rubber hanging off the window,

Review 27:it is handy for our visits to our grandchildren

Review 28:The Hallmark Hotel formerly The Menzies Hotel, Irvine is under new management. The room that I occupied had a very rusty door closer, no chrome left and the waste bin (chrome) was filthy on the outside. (Could have complained but didn't as they are superficial) The sizeable dining room is dark and dingy with no natural light which is a shame.

Review 29:The Hallmark Hotel, Irvine is well served by its staff who are helpful and attend to their customers needs. The weekend break that I enjoyed represented fantastic value for money. The self service inclusive breakfast was without fault. The evening meal was above average pub type food (in my opinion) and fantastic value for money.

Review 30:The room was in need of redecoration. Wallpaper was peeling from the wall, Scuff marks on walls and skirting. The drain in the bath was blocked with pubic hair and resulted in slow drainage. Therefore did not use the bath. Public areas were run down and new carpets are needed in the dining room. Excessive walk to the far bedrooms. Suspect that as the booking was made through booking.com we may have been given one of the poorer rooms way at the back of the hotel.

Review 31:Staff were pleasant and the bed was comfortable.

Review 32:bathroom floor wasn't the cleanest hairs from previous guest on floor. dust on bedroom furnishings dining table could have done with a table cover to hide scratches. claim to be pet friendly, but only if dog was staying in the bedroom .no facilities for pets to be in the foyer/main area when having a drink from the bar. so how can you say you are pet friendly?

Review 33:rooms very nice and well laid out.meal was good comfortable beds.

Review 34:Restaurant meal was grim, and staff were poor and at times non-existent. Public areas are dismal (due to decor and absence of natural light). We were locked out of the room one day - entrycard malfunction! No lift.

Review 35:Room was quiet and comfortable. Reasonable rate via internet agency. Hotel centrally located : easy to visit family and shops in Irvine. Front desk and bar staff were friendly. Plenty of parking.

Review 36:The cleanliness in the bathroom left a little to be desired - the doorframe and skirtings were very dirty. Bedroom was ok but bathroom wasvery tired - old faded paintwork, screws visible in wall where it lookslike showerhead had been moved and the door didn't close - doorfittings very rusty. Bar area was also very drab and un-inviting.

Review 37:Staff were very friendly and efficient

Review 38:Little bit disorganised at breakfast time but got there in the end.

Review 39:Last minute booking. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this hotel as I'd never heard of it before. Friendly staff and a decent choice of dinners on the menu.

Review 40:The staff member in reception was very poor, at check in we were given a room that none of the two key cards worked, after I went all the way back to the desk I was told it had given trouble to the last guest !!! They offers to fix it , we had just traveled from china and really needed to sleep . Her attitude in general was very poor ,it was more like tell me something I may be interested in.

Review 41:The staff in the dining room were very good and even asked the cook to alter some dishes to suit my pregnant wife's needs , thanks

Review 42:Dinner/evening meal was disappointingly small and not of the quality we have experienced in previous stays. Mediocre cooking and not very wide vegetarian range

Review 43:Convenient location for ferry, friendly staff

Review 44:I booked a room for my daughter on 29th march as she was getting marriedon 28th august.my daughter phoned the hotel and explained that she wasdisabled and was told that she would receive a ground floor room. Whenthey arrived they were given a room on the first floor my daughter andhusband had to climb stairs with great difficulty as she had a longdress on this was difficult.she was told there were no lower roomavailable. I am not happy with treatment.

Review 45:I booked twin room when I checked in was told I had a double bed. ask them to change it to twin, they put us in a room overlooking built up area under construction . No day light in the room and air condtioning didn't work. we were running late for a party so didn't have time to change room again but when complained in the morning , woman at reception blamed me for booking double then asking to change to twin. she knew room offered had no daylight but did not bother to share with us at the time. poor value for money. breakfast service was poor and food poor qulaity

Review 46:Room was fairly warm and we could not open the window or find a thermostat. Not in walking distance to a town. Easy parking, so appeared to be mostly frequented by tour buses.

Review 47:Staff was very helpful. Location suited us, as we were arriving late and trying to get near the ferry to Ireland. Signage on the road was very clear. Plenty of room for a family of 4.

Review 48:The hotel defiantly needs uplifting it's clearly due for a makeover with wallpaper falling off and light shades. The cleanliness needs regular attendance as my aunts room had bird feicies all down the window it was old too.

Review 49:The overall decor of the hotel was cosy enough the breakfast was as expected.

Review 50:Decore dated. Room was dusty and very tired in places. I tried to change my booking after I booked but the hotel were not flexible. The breakfast was ok, sparse choice & the breakfast room tatty. Was not worth the rate we paid. Did have coach trips in - if you stay there for a cheap coach holiday probably worth a cheaper rate. Room unusally hot. No air conditioning & the fan didn't work.

Review 51:Room was nice & large with two king beds.

Review 52:No air con. Decor at bit tired and dated. Had pasta with tomato sauce is ne night - pretty tasteless and beef dish also disappointing. Didn't have dinner there again.

Review 53:The location isnt great and nothing to do there for kids no leisure facilities on a hotel that size there should be at least a pool and the rooms extremely hot no air con can hardly open a window as its atached to a wire and one fan supplied very poor

Review 54:The staff was very friendly and the food was very nice and rooms clean

Review 55:The booking was changed from what I had booked. Room was like a sauna and could not be cooled. Bed exceptionally uncomfortable. Staff never spoke to us. People smoking outside the bedroom window.

Review 56:Leaving the hotel

Review 57:We didn't include breakfast when we paid for the hotel and were charged a premium of more than 50% when we decided to use the breakfast facilities. It wasn't worth it.

Review 58:This is a budget hotel and for the price it was good value. The beds were okay. The bathroom was good. We had a triple room which was comfortable for three adults.

Review 59:We could smell smoking, maybe coming From below or rooms next to us. The room and bathroom were quite dated. Plug did not fit into bath. Shower very basic

Review 60:Lovely view Quiet

Review 61:Is a disaster it does not qualify as a hotel. Motel that's what it should be. It's very hot. Dirty carpets and the Aircon does not work. I got very sick from the smelly carpets

Review 62:My wife has dementia and it was our first night away from home.Woke up at 1 30 am and did not know where she was, wanted to go home so had no option but to go rather than upset her further. Sorry to miss my breakfast.

Review 63:As my wife is disabled I asked for ground floor room pleasantly surprise as room just a short distance frm reception. thank you very much.

Review 64:The breakfast was poor. Was a good selection but eggs hard black pudding was hard. Bacon over done. Ask for a fan as room was very warm they didn't have enough.

Review 65:The room was very comfortable. Staff lovely. Good value for money.

Review 66:Inconsistency of customer service, breakfast when busy cold and staff sulky. Internet runs extremely slow when bus tours arrive ( told this was the problem by reception staff)

Review 67:Good value for money overall. Often very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast on 2 days was excellent.

Review 68:got a free upgrade but there was no air conditioning in the room, just a cheap dirty fan, bed sagged in the middle, toilet was loose from the wall and creaked every time you sat on it. did tell girl on leaving

Review 69:close to our son, who lives in kilwinning. normally a good price, but with the holidays price was double

Review 70:rooms are tired, no cold water at bath, no air con, having to use fan all the time, open window causes excess traffic noise.

Review 71:breakfast excellent, staff great.

Review 72:The veg lasagne in the restaurant was nothing but veg & pasta sheets no sauce & rock hard veg! There was bird fecies allover my grandmas bedroom window requested it be cleaned. Wallpaper falling off walls defiantly in need of a refurb! And rooms too warm! Staff were laughing and seemed immature & we wasn't asked if we had a pleasant stay wouldn't of mind if it was slightly cheaper but regardless of how much you pay it should be right!

Review 73:The decor is quite nice and cosy just needs uplifting

Review 74:room was not cleaned proper the dust on TV , on window ledge I could print my name on it , also when walking down the stairs I was shocked to see the dust again on and in between ledges x

Review 75:The bed the view the service all good

Review 76:we did not like tea and coffee served from communal pots. A 4 star hotel usually has a member of staff take the tea/coffee order and provide individual pots. The toilet was not cleaned under the rim- poor. The room was like an oven and most uncomfortable and there was no extractor fan in the en-suite. on checking in Carla answered the phone without apology and left us standing there- the customer infront of you is the only one who matters in excellent customer service. This may be management policy but it is poor and rude.

Review 77:the evening meal was of a very good quality and the breakfast was good .

Review 78:Room was insufferably hot during the night and window could only be opened a small distance. Black pudding was sticking to dish and looked like it had been there since 7am. Perhaps a card stating that this could be ordered via waitress? Price of drinks seemed excessive

Review 79:Room fully adequate and comfortable lounge and dining area

Review 80:Our kettle was not working. When my husband went to reception to report this he was asked if he had 'twiddled' with the wires as sometimes they came loose. He was told it would be dealt with. We were never given another kettle so could not have a hot drink in our room. I am concerned that a member of staff thinks it is ok for guests to 'twiddle' with electrical wires to get something working. Surely this could be dangerous? NOT IMPRESSED.

Review 81:The bedroom was far too warm, and it was impossible to open the window far enough to allow some air to ciculate. Sleep was difficult because of the high temperature. We did not have breakfast as we thought £11.95 too expensive (£8.95, as in Premier Inn, would have been more realistic) Drinks at the bar were also far too expensive.

Review 82:We had dinner, and the food was excellent if rather over-priced.

Review 83:The decor in the rooms is a little faded in places and the rooms would benefit from a little modernisation.

Review 84:All the staff from arrival at reception to bar/restaurant staff to morning cleaning staff, were all extremely friendly, cheerful and thoroughly professional. They could not do enough for the guests and made for a most relaxing stay.

Review 85:Not very impressed with the value of breakfast. Very generic selection with not many options.

Review 86:Location, price and value. Great place with great people.

Review 87:Domestic staff used key to enter the room about 09.45 hours while I was in the shower. My wife was partially dressed & using hair dryer so was unable to answer the knock on the door prior to it being opened. The TV was also on so the staff member should have been aware that the room was still occupied.

Review 88:Very noisy hotel group of kids playing hockey in hallway had to speak to them twice about banging ball of walls and doors as did other guests.

Review 89:Good location.

Review 90:two colleagues had rooms overlooking old leisure area and kept awake by loads if pidgeons. Staff not friendly and dinner was just poor. Chef does not know how to cook dishes, battered fish ¾ batter and served on ridiculous wooden off cut. Breakfast was non event where you have to prompt staff for tea several times. Never again.

Review 91:room was good, clean, comfortable.

Review 92:The bar food in the evening was ok, but nothing more. At breakfast time no-one asked me if I wanted tea/coffee until I was about to leave.

Review 93:Welcome at reception.

Review 94:The price of breakfast!!!

Review 95:My 3 year old described the hotel entrance as 'fancy'! Was the only hotel we could find that would accommodate a family of 5 in one room.

Review 96:The room was clean, warm and large as we had a family room which had 2 double beds. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was clean with usual bathroom essentials (shower gel etc). The staff were polite and helpful. The buffet breakfast was good, plenty to be had. The hot food was fresh and not dried up.

Review 97:The wifi, wasn't a strong enough signal. Couldn't pick up any sites. Fortunatley I have data contract on iPad so didn't matter to me that much.

Review 98:The bed was the most comfortable bed that I have ever slept in, in a hotel.

Review 99:none everything was fine

Review 100:the staff and the cleaners were very helpfull also any thing we asked for at reception they attended to immiatelly i would certainly come back when i come to scotland jim and irene nicol playa flamenco spain

Review 101:Was quite warm in our room no air con but a fan was provided. Went to reception and asked for another one which was no trouble at all.

Review 102:Staff were extremely helpful Rooms very clean and spacious Breakfast was lovely

Review 103:Is starting to look a bit dated inside, though it is kept very clean, and orderly. Only dated decor.

Review 104:Friendliness of staff, very accommodating and informative.

Review 105:Food was very disappointing and no swimming pool or facilities to entertain the kids.

Review 106:Hotel accommodating my family of 5 in one room, which was very comfortable and great value for money

Review 107:I came with a disabled person and asked for a room on the ground floor as there is no lift but we really struggled with how far away the room was. No notice taken as to being a bad walker. Will not be back and have advised other disabled people the distance we had to walk back and forth.

Review 108:The meal was perfect but we had to wait a long time in between courses, we didn't eat until 7.30 and as it took so long we didn't get the chance to sit a while as it was after 10 when we finished the meal and didn't feel like extending it any more and we also had to consider the time it would take to get back to the room with the stoppages we had to take

Review 109:£15 per night for pet, but did not provide anything for the dog - no bed/bowl/chews and put us as far away as you could get from an exit making it hard work trudging through entire hotel to walk dog. I had already paid for the room so what was the excessive charge for?

Review 110:Will accept pets.

Review 111:Room very dusty. Bed very lumpy and uncomfortable. Two beds put together with a zip in the middle which was not zipped up. Bathroom poorly maintained.

Review 112:Clean, comfortable and an amazing price! Fab atmosphere in the lounge area too, have stayed here lots of times visiting family and will definitely be back!

Review 113:There was very little information about the dinning facilities and we were only able to view a 'special' menu before arriviing in the dinning room. We did not get our dinner bill itemised when we checked out so were not aware of what we had paid. Heated towel rail and hair drier did not work in the room.

Review 114:Staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. The foyer was a pleasant comfortable place to sit and the background piano and harp were a very relaxing suitable addition.

Review 115:Noisiness of lounge area--could not hear the lovely harp music being played there live. Live music should be held in a totally separate area where there is no noise or distractions and where silence is a requirement of attendance. Bath water was lukewarm at 08.30hrs Worst of all, staff remove one's drinks if one leaves one's seat in the lounge area for a short while.

Review 116:privacy quietness of location

Review 117:Initially thought room looked nice, very warm but nice. However, on closer inspection the bathroom was dirty - black scum under toilet rim, around taps and mildew coming from cold tap. In the bedroom itself there were orange stains on my duvet cover. We had been out most of the evening and it was late in the evening when we noticed how unclean the room was. We stayed in the room as our 6 month old daughter had finally settled for the night and we had unpacked all out luggage. We notified staff in the morning and they were very apologetic. We stayed in the Gailes hotel the following night and this was by far a more pleasant and enjoyable stay.

Review 118:The location and staff

Review 119:Tongue-in-cheek, I missed the lagoon, but it must have been a problem. No complaints

Review 120:The new (for me) reception/bar area is much better than my last visit in 2003

Review 121:Every time we have stayed at the hotel (we have stayed several times) the hotel standard is badly let down by the extremely poor "hot water" system. The hot water supply at the worst is lost completely or at best lukewarm only. A great disappointment....

Review 122:The staff were very attentive and the food quality / standard was great.......

Review 123:I was quoted £44 per night when I booked which I was told included breakfast. For breakfast I was charged an additional £7.50, a total of £51.50 per night. My sister and her husband, who booked the same day, was quoted and charged £65, £32.50 per head. Hotels similar to Menzies normally charge per room so I was surprised to be charged a single supplement equivalent to £19.00.

Review 124:I always have a Guide Dog Pup in training with me on my way to and from the Guide Dog Training School in Forfar before I return to Belfast. The Hotel Staff are always very helpful and interested in the pup and how the training is going.

Review 125:Toilet / shower room dated Shower head blocked, Lack off water pressure

Review 126:Friendly helpful staff General cleanliness of rooms and common areas comfortable large bed And an excellent choice at breakfast

Review 127:The Hotel was very clean and the room spacious. We have breakfast in the morning which was fresh and enjoyable and the staff was pleasant and efficient.

Review 128:No lift to first floor.

Review 129:Comfortable room, excellent evening meal in restaurant, friendly staff, good breakfast, good wifi, nice bar and reception area.

Review 130:Dirty room Dirty corridors Restaurant.service - not much choice, overpriced, food cold when it finally arrived and very small portions No wifi at all during my stay anywhere in the hotel and when I complained I was told they were having a.problem so why not tell me this when I checked in instead of giving me the password to connect!

Review 131:Breakfast ok

Review 132:Horrible insanitariness/cleanliness of the Ladies restroom in the bar area. We occupied Rooms 147 and 148. The door jambs were thick with dust, the inside of the drawers, closet, night-tables, all around the bedheads, were the same. Dust everywhere!! Fridge was missing in Room 148. The corridor doors adjacent to our rooms were bashed and dented. Giving a very negative first impression.

Review 133:The staff were earnestly trying to make guests comfortable, but we had the impression that they were swimming against a tidal lack of funds.

Review 134:only thing i was dissappointed in was there food menu for evening meal not really nuch to choose from in traditonal dishes but excellent service and value for money

Review 135:i would like to thank all the staff at menzies hotel for there kindness and full attension which we received when we came in to leaving the hotel and there support to my husbad who is disabled and in a wheelchair couldnt have been more helpful than they were would recommend this hotel to anyone so 10/10 for menzies

Review 136:The windowe in the room didn't seem to close properly - a constant draft and some noise from traffic. The draft was soon fixed by using the spare heater in the room though. There was no individual thermostat for room heating but again fixed by using the extra heater.

Review 137:Good size rooms, clean and comfortable, friendly staff. Free WiFi and parking also a bonus. I love that kids under 16 stay free. Good breakfast. Der recommend again.
