Reviews for Malvern Lodge Guest House
Review 1:The only bad experience I had at my stay was the bed, it was very squeaky, and not that comfortable.
Review 2:Was a lovely hotel, room was clean, and shower was powerful ! Would definitely go again !
Review 3:The mattress was old or seemed it and uncomfortable. & needs renewing Couldn't open a window & also the door to the toilet would not close and shut
Review 4:The location was decent . The room was ok tv ok. N facilities is what you expect as normal.
Review 5:Would have been better with breakfast. Bed hard and squeaky. Disgusted by lots of cigarette butts littering the front of the house.
Review 6:Close to facilities and the sea. Tea and coffee good. TV good. Nice room in general. Friendly host.
Review 7:Everywhere I went the staff was there, magically he would appear sometimes you need to be left on own
Review 8:The location, plenty of parking and plenty of facilities including microwave
Review 9:kitchen sink upstairs needed a good clean no extra milk for coffee in room or kitchen when staff had gone but not bad overall but I didn't think until it was to late
Review 10:clean room & shower was good ok for work, staff nice
Review 11:Room floor needs to be more clean.
Review 12:The lodge is really well located. Our room was upgraded to family room on arrival and you have a nice bathroom and clean towels every two days. There's also coffee and tea in room. You may also use the kitchen microwave, toaster and fridge.
Review 13:The double bed was horrible. No 24 hours reception desk and poor lock on the door. It did not meet our expections
Review 14:The location was good, nearby the sea and train station.
Review 15:I stayed in Room 6. The room front door needs attention as you can the light in the hallway through gaps in the door. Squeaky floorboards near bathroom door needs attention. At midnight on Wednesday 25th August people staying in room above were walking about and banging and floorboards squeaking which kept me awake for about an hour then it stopped.
Review 16:The shower worked brilliantly at the right pressure. TV and Wifi was excellent. Beds were very comfortable. Tea and coffee facilities good.
Review 17:Worst mattress ever (sore backs were the result) plus awful pillows/bedding (sheet ripped & thin, doona thin & cover pilled, pillows were old & disgusting) Would not recommend :( No crockery or cutlery in kitchen to use.
Review 18:nothing to complain.
Review 19:the man at reception was very helpful, help protect our bikes in the rain.Car parking small but had always room for us.Gave tips how to get around by train,in general very good.
Review 20:Could of done breakfast as have a dinning area?
Review 21:Close to everywhere great hotel doesn't look good from outside but inside room great nice shower and very clean
Review 22:Nothing
Review 23:No Breakfast included but there was a small kitchen that everyone could use if you wanted to. Proprietor very friendly and didn't pester to come in the room and clean. I would use the hotel again.
Review 24:Having parked as instructed and booked a space we were knocked up at ten to seven to move the car for another guest .
Review 25:Quiet location, handy for town centre. Host polite, bed comfortable, bathroom spotless. Basic facilities, no breakfast.
Review 26:Lots of noise at night, also guests going out for fags at the front speaking loudly. Parking is limited to 2 spaces
Review 27:It was perfect location for what I needed the place for
Review 28:It needs a facelift as its getting a little tired but ok and breakfast would be nice thre website needs updating as it shows a dining room
Review 29:Friendly service
Review 30:No cafes around need to walk 10 minutes to have breakfast
Review 31:position, opposite to westcliff station and 15 minutes from Southend on foot nice staff, good value for money
Review 32:In my first visit I found a spider on the roof but I think that's "normal" here in England. There is neither shower gel nor champoo, just handwash gel.
Review 33:Great Location, close to Westcliff train station which connects with London in 45 minutes and Westcliff sea-front. Free car park available. The staff was really kind and helpful. I paid a single room and they accomodated in a double room for the same price! The room was big and clean. They didn't make my room for 3 days but I can't complain after all.
Review 34:The location - but that's probably because I don't like Southend Room was right next to the front door meaning that you can hear everyone come in/go out
Review 35:Excellent host - welcoming and helpful I was upgraded to a bigger room on arrival Comfortable, clean, well-furnished room Very good VFM
Review 36:Breakfast advertised but not actually available. I pointed this out to the very helpful staff but after a few days it's still advertised. (There is a 'Wetherspoons' a couple of miles away, but on Fathers day???)
Review 37:Clean. Comfortable. Friendly.
Review 38:I wasn't impressed with the no breakfast when on the site it says breakfast is included. The stairs going up to the top floor were steep and dangerous. I am pregnant and was conscious of falling down them. They were very dangerous. The noise of the birds that woke you up in the morning early and being noisy at nightime. I wouldn't be staying there again.
Review 39:The member of staff was friendly.
Review 40:Nothing like pics online, front completely covered in scaffolding and works going on first thing in morning. Understand that redecoration needs to be done at sometime but a warning before booking would have been appreciated. No breakfast.
Review 41:Location
Review 42:Don't stay in the twin room at the top of the house. Stairs awful, my husband fell down the stairs and broke his arm. The worst place we have ever stayed.
Review 43:Friendly welcome, clean, comfortable environment, quiet area, and best of all, no more than a minute's walk from the station. Excellent value for money.
Review 44:Bed, furniture, bathroom very dirty, towels old and appear to have been over used! however, if I wanted better an cleaner facilities, I could have paid more elsewhere, fair?
Review 45:Staff very friendly and helpful...
Review 46:We booked at the last minute so didn't really look the place up. (lesson learned)The place seemed dirty and cheap. It was more like a hostel than a guesthouse. Good location for the Cliffs Pavillion but would have stayed somewhere else if I had known. I was on edge all night. I felt uncomfortable being in the house. After reading past reviews when we arrived home I'm not surprised. Avoid if possible.
Review 47:Checking out time.
Review 48:The carpets and furniture were dirty. The stairwell was very narrow and an elderly lady had to carry her own case
Review 49:The shower was good and the man friendly
Review 50:The sign outside on the wall for the name of the guest house was poor, we drove passed it in the dark, and it was raining, so not a nice night for walking up and down to see where it was, it should be more illuminated, and bigger, I couldn't get the shower on the right setting at first, but after few attempts I got there, water was warm, not hot,
Review 51:The Room was OK for the money, the young man who welcomed us was nice, and showed us the room first, as we was only staying one night it suited our need,
Review 52:Flexibility and helpfulness of the staff was first rate and unexpected. Our room was clean and served our purposes well. It was excellent value and will revisit next time we visit the area.
Review 53:one thing I found difficult was the height of the shower and mirror in the bathroom. As I am only 5'2" and do not like the water coming down on my head, I found it difficult to get hold of the shower due to the height likewise with the mirror for someone like me it was too high
Review 54:it was clean, comfortable, all the necessary facilities you would expect and the staff were very welcoming and friendly
Review 55:Off street parking, but was in a hired car.... Wifi was intermittent and a little annoying when trying to do your work.
Review 56:Location is excellent for our meetings fom Barking to Southend. Very quiet part of town and close to the marine drive promenade. Very comfortable room we had.
Review 57:We departed at 9.30am and there was no staff available to receive the keys, neither was there a box to safely deposit them.
Review 58:2 chairs in the bedroom Tea & coffee facilities
Review 59:It is a bit basic but it does have everything you could want. It actually delivers better in some regards compared to bigger name chain hotels. For the cost of a night it is great value.
Review 60:Couldnt get shower the right temperature. A tad hot. to be fair I should have mentioned this while I was there
Review 61:I was made very welcome after an 8 hour journey! Slept like a log in v comfy bed. Excellent facilities & value for money. Would definitely stay here again if Im back this way. Will definitely recommend the hotel & the lovely owner to all my friends & family Thank you very much for your friendly welcome & chat!
Review 62:Our room was a twin en suite which in it self was ok, slightly tight on space. The stairs however were steep and came right up to the door of the room. If i had been travelling with a younger child or someone unsteady on their feet i would have been very concerned every time left the room.
Review 63:the location as it is just a short walk to the sea front.
Review 64:The room was not suitable for two people - it was just two beds squashed into an attic room. The room was not entirely clean, especially the bathroom, and the onsite parking was not what I expected either - we were told to park on the road at first and had to drive around looking for a space.
Review 65:It's cheap and the location is good - right next to a train station.
Review 66:The bed was very squeaky and uncomfortable the door creaked right through the night very strange as was a solid door the property could do with updating and a bit cleaner
Review 67:Staff was friendly and very helpful booked single room but was given a double own shower tellie plenty of coffee
Review 68:Outside the room the rest of the house was not the cleanest and more scruffy than the actual room I stayed in. As I was only using this place to sleep whilst on a weekend business meeting it was ok and a last minute booking so not much choice in this area.
Review 69:guest house staff friendly and waited up as I was late checking in. Rooms where basic but functional and the room and shower was clean if a little bit dated. There was a small kitchen which was communal and contained microwave etc for guests.
Review 70:Shower was a little on the small side, but still quite manageable.
Review 71:Very friendly, welcoming staff. Well appointed, nicely decorated room with no noise from outside despite the fact that it was overlooking the street. Also very short walk from the station.
Review 72:The bed sheet had numerous very obvious stains. The bathroom floor had many body hairs scattered over it.
Review 73:Room was up a very narrow access staircase to attic. Linen was thin and past its best by a long way.
Review 74:The bathroom was really small.
Review 75:The shower was ok
Review 76:Comfortable bed, clean room.
Review 77:We were upgraded for free to a family room. Staff were so friendly. Could come and go as we pleased
Review 78:No service rubbish room worst I have experienced

Review 88:Not brilliant for parking close by but links by train are excellent
Review 89:Staff are very accommodating. Very good value.
Review 90:Great value for money. We would definitely stay again.
Review 91:car parking and pillows flat, no breakfast, and very little information were you could find food.
Review 92:Location, clean and on suite
Review 93:Needs upgrading really really poor
Review 94:Only item that was good was the pillow
Review 95:NO PARKING, OLD DECOR, OLD BEDS, NO BREAKFAST, NOISEY ROOMS
Review 96:NOTHING
Review 97:Ten minute walk from pier, which was fine for us. Nice local restaurants. Friendly service. Basic but clean. Excellent value.
Review 98:Parking not always close by
Review 99:Facade of the building a bit tatty and only room for 3 cars
Review 100:Close to seafront

Review 112:Only its location.
