Reviews for Normanton Park Hotel

Review 1:For the price it was pretty basic. Additionally house keeping walked straight into the room whilst I was getting dressed without knocking and when there was no sign on the door. When reported upon checkout we were simply told 'that's not very good' but no further comment or move to compensate us was made .

Review 2:Excellent location and fantatic view. generally very clean

Review 3:The television didn't work, they weren't serving food in the restaurant and failed to notify us upon booking ...the tap in the bathroom was broken

Review 4:The view was lovely

Review 5:The quality of the food was very poor. We chose the festive evening meal. My wife's turkey had the consistency of a gammon steak and a slight flavour of turkey. Maybe it came from a much larger bird, ostrich or rhea?. The scrambled egg served at breakfast was awful. It looked like a very inexpertly produced omelette. The waitress agreed it was disgusting and went to tell the chef off. produce

Review 6:Our room was quite small. We slept very badly due to noisy plumbing and other disturbances. Staff kindly moved us to another room but it had the same issues.

Review 7:The location was beautiful, close to the lake. The building was interesting and unusual. There is a lovely restaurant with a varied menu, friendly staff and cosy atmosphere. The lounge/bar area with open fire is a comfortable place to relax in the evening. Comprehensive breakfast buffet. Staff were very helpful and dealt extremely efficiently and considerately with issues.

Review 8:Bathroom tiles a bit grubby and towel rail heater didn't work but that wasn't a problem as the main room was lovely and warm and the bedroom was nice room other wise

Review 9:Room with a lake view was great and bed comfy

Review 10:An old building with poor wall insulation and consequent signs of mould. Fairly basic decor in bedroom. Reception staff could have been more smiley. Faulty light over basin reported and assured it had been fixed but had not.

Review 11:Good dinner pleasantly served, likewise breakfast.

Review 12:The room was nothing like the description or pictures on the website. It was more like a broom cupboard. The staff forgot to take my breakfast order and left me sitting whilst serving other guests

Review 13:The location was nice next to Rutland Water

Review 14:the bedroom was like a box. was not worth the money.for this room (3) would not stay again all you could see out of the window was the roof of the hotel

Review 15:The country side was lovely

Review 16:On arrival we were not informed there was going to be a wedding breakfast/evening, so when the guests arrived they took over the bar lounge, meaning it was no longer a quiet relaxing place after a 2 hour drive to get there. After 10 minutes we asked if we could sit in the restaurant and was told no as it wasn't open yet, so we had no choice but to go to our room! We chose not to eat in the restaurant as planned and instead took a taxi to Stamford. The whole place needs an uplift, our room needed decorating, very good photography! The window was broken and could be easily opened from the outside if not closed properly, and to top it all one of the guests next door decided to play their TV from 5am Sunday morning!

Review 17:Rather disappointed by 2 of the rooms we were allocated - they were cold, cramp and in need of refurbishment.

Review 18:Excellent meals - definitely value for money and excellent menu.

Review 19:We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Normanton Park Hotel, we stayed in a room that had a view overlooking Rutland water superb! It was very clean and spacious. The breakfasts and evening meal were excellent. We found the staff helpful and friendly.

Review 20:Staff not very friendly, had to ask about arrangements for Breakfast. Room was difficult to find in an 'annexe' across the car park. No signage to the rooms and there was no lock on the inside of the door.

Review 21:Lovely location on the lake.

Review 22:It wasnt a bad experience, but you could try to make the lounge by the fireplace and coffee bar a bit more warm and cosy towards the evening,it wasnt pleasant to sit there with an outside door ,could you use the fireplace?it gives the place a cold outlook with nothing in it.

Review 23:we liked the location, friendly staff and good service and the roominess of the hotel with excellent cooking.

Review 24:Cold/freezing water in the shower, very annoying even if they took off £20 from the bill. Breakfast was very disappointing. You can hear the rooms next door. Despite the very nice building, the rooms are old and needs work done. For £115 I really was expecting better.

Review 25:The building and location were beautiful, very Nice staff, our bed was comfortable.

Review 26:Like many who stay here, we had travelled to Normanton Church Museum to get married. The afternoon tea was fabulous and the hotel is by nearly very good. Staff communication prior to the wedding was poor and inflexible. As a result we had our dinner at L'olivete nearby, which was absolutely brilliant.

Review 27:We had room Barrow which I think was next to the boiler room which unfortunately meant a low pitched hum could be heard all the time it woke me up and was most unpleasant if we had been staying longer I would have asked to be moved.

Review 28:Lovely setting beautiful to walk round the lake.

Review 29:Rockingham room in annexe was not clean, shabby and not as advertised on the website. When I complained, they offered to knock £7 off the room; no apology. Reception staff frosty most times..

Review 30:LOcation excellent and very good breakfast

Review 31:The room wasn't as clean as I would expect for the price. There was dirt and rubbish on the floor under the bed.

Review 32:Location was fantastic. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room was lovely with jacuzzi bath and balcony over the water. Breakfast choice very good

Review 33:Indifferent staff /didnt feel welcomed / limited price choice for dinner ( ie expensive) / poor choice for breakfast eg no selection of ham and very little fresh fruit for cont. Breakfast / no sausages

Review 34:Very comfortable bed

Review 35:The TV in the room didn't work.

Review 36:Fantastic location right on the lakeside with beautiful views. Staff were pleasant and were friendly. Breakfast was good. Room was tidy and clean.

Review 37:Very little drawer/shelf space. Bathroom was ok but could be more thoroughly cleaned. Reception staff could be more cheerful and welcoming! One or two of the serving staff looked a little scruffy.

Review 38:Roomy accommodation, very comfy bed, adjustable room heating, lovely view.

Review 39:Not a bad experience but Breakfast was disappointing. No cereals, had to ask for fruit juice and the 'full english' looked over cooked. Having said that it was very tasty.

Review 40:Dinner was beautifully presented and cooked. It was served in a very friendly manner by happy staff. Wonderful outlook from the Hotel and garden over Rutland Water.

Review 41:They did tell me they were short staffed so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and say the stay was disappointing rather than poor. Such a lovely hotel let down by service. Room was dirty, no newspaper provided and staff far to busy to offer good service. I generally like Best Western and this is the most disappointing I've stayed in, especially at the price. All this could be quickly fixed with the right level of staffing.

Review 42:Location excellent and breakfast (full English) was superb.

Review 43:No ventilation in toilet, bathroom hadn't been cleaned properly. Bed was very uncomfortable.

Review 44:The staff were very friendly and pleasant. The location and property were beautiful.

Review 45:The staff were ill-informed, not knowing where the bedrooms were, unsmiling and rude.

Review 46:The room, overlooking Rutland Water, was lovely, the view stunning.

Review 47:The super toilet/bidet was not working. Late arrivals could be heard opening their doors and using the bathroom.

Review 48:The accommodation in the new building was very good. The staff are very helpful.

Review 49:No bedside light - OK, could switch overhead lights on and off from beside bed, but they were not well placed for reading in bed. Rooms are named not numbered, apparently randomly, and staff had difficulty finding them! No plan of hotel very obvious. Divisions between rooms apparently made of 2 thicknesses of wallpaper ...

Review 50:Everywhere seemed very clean. Staff, when located, were helpful.

Review 51:The restaurant staff were most helpful at the evening meal. With a group of diners (9)things can be a little chaotic but the orders were taken in a professional manner and everybody received the correct dish. The food being excellent.

Review 52:Only fault was cramped wardrobe space in our particular room.

Review 53:Excellent location. We even got here by train and bus! Not a very frequent service from Stamford but bus stop within a few minutes walk.

Review 54:I asked for a quiet room but near to amenities, we were given room TICKENCOTE next to the function room with a band playing.

Review 55:The Location of the grounds and hotel.

Review 56:There was no shower in the bathroom only a hand held head .

Review 57:The room was excellent the view of the water made it all the Moore special . The dinner in the eve was very good . The staff in the eve were very friendly and made us feal very special one person called Danielle in perticular .

Review 58:The COBBLE STONES outside the rooms are SLIPPERY. There are loads of signs saying be careful of the slippery stones but even so I managed to slip over and crack my head on a planter outside our room (Seaton) just walking to the car. In my opinion if they know the stones are slippery they should do something about it other than put up notices. I wasn't running, just walkng. Ouch!

Review 59:The location of the hotel is superb and the reception was efficient. Great restaurant / food. The room was rather small but as we were staying for only one night that was not a problem for us. The bathroom was clean but the bedroom could have done with a little more attention.

Review 60:In the attic room we had, the ceiling was very low on one side of the bed, and care had to be taken when getting out of bed in the middle of the night.

Review 61:Our basic room was very clean, with an adequate shower room. Breakfast was very good, served by friendly staff.

Review 62:Room not adequately cleaned; crawling insect on my tea/coffee tray; bathroom is extremely tiny and shower cubicle and unit poorly maintained.

Review 63:Location and views

Review 64:The room did not have a lamp, only overhead light - not good if one wishes to read and the other sleep. Unfortunately the TV system failed during our stay.

Review 65:Location

Review 66:The hotel and rooms appeared a little 'tired' but this was more than made up by the hotel's superb location and the fantastic views over the water!

Review 67:The staff were extremely friendly and efficient - nothing was too much trouble.

Review 68:Inter-staff communication could improve; dinner menu less than inspiring; in-room tv reception dire! Internet used instead of fax could be a big improvement.

Review 69:Lovely breakfast, pleasant staff, adequate room, sufficient parking.

Review 70:Room was poor considering it was the Bridal suite, very basic, wardrobe too narrow for clothes, no proper shower and was not cleaned properly very shabby. Everytime that we needed a drink from the bar we had to go and find someone to serve us and they would not do Pinot Grigio by the glass.

Review 71:Had a room looking over the lake. Breakfast was really good and so were the staff that served it. Bar food was good as well.

Review 72:A little bit of TLC for rooms

Review 73:Very quiet and peaceful, good service and facilities, friendly staff and helpful. Lovely to cycle round the lake and go straight to the hotel off the cycle path. Will stay again and would recommend.

Review 74:Just one or two points:- Steps into bath can get slippery and the edges of the tiled steps quite sharp when you slip. Large TV but cannot see all the screen because of the post on the four poster bed, TV would be better in lounge area.

Review 75:Fantastic location overlooking Rutland Water. Had suite in annexe, with balcony. First class, will definitely be going back. Breakfast good choice, had meal in bar which was also very tasty. Friendly staff.

Review 76:It felt uncomfortable to have to drag our bags and to get to our rooms through the bar and the wedding party that was celebrating there. Luckily their discos did not disturb us.

Review 77:Fabulous view of Rutland Water and easy access to walks by the lakeside. Evening meal delicious

Review 78:We had a very poor experience in the restaurant, I had to send my meal back because it was cold, it came back still luke warm, when my partner had finished his meal, service in the restaurant very poor

Review 79:The location , fantastic

Review 80:alarm clock did not work and could not be plugged in near the bed. phone did not work so could not phone reception, they did come and got it working but when the fire alarm went off in the early hour's failed to work again

Review 81:location and most staff very helpful especially our waiter.

Review 82:Would have been nice to have had the choice of both menus in the restaurant

Review 83:Stayed 5 years ago to celebrate parents golden wedding it was so relaxing and staff made us feel very welcome we decided to celebrate our 25th anniversary at the same place

Review 84:The description booking.com made for the room was nothing like what we got. very upset when we got to the room, the manager gave us a discount but that was not the point please show the correct picture and give the correct description of the room so customers will not be as upset as we were.

Review 85:nice hotel nice, friendly staff,. good food. Thank you to the manager for helping us with our problem

Review 86:only small niggles, the pillows on the bed were far to hard and no where to hang shower attachment.a bit more choice on the menu would of been nice.

Review 87:the staff were great, friendly and welcoming.lovely location.will be returning but this time with dogs.clean room, and good food.a great night away

Review 88:Bizarre bed which turned out uncomfortable.low level dust in room. The steak I had tasted as though it had been kept too long!

Review 89:Friendly, unexpectedly good service for such a small hotel

Review 90:Intrusively large TV in bar area spoils the atmosphere, particularly as it is placed over the lovely open fire.No need for tv. "Musak" playing intrusively. As much as I like Frank Sinatra do not want to hear repeated loop of song cycle while eating breakfast. Suggest remove "Musak".

Review 91:Spacious bedroom with wonderful view of the lake. Conservatory breakfast room with panoramic view of the lake. Very good breakfast. Easy access through lovely garden to path for walking or cycling around the lake.

Review 92:Black mould around the shower panel & bath which showed that cleaning was not up to standard - cracked bath panel which would be dangerous to young children - mould around window due to condensation - A real shame as with a bit of investment this could be a superb hotel.

Review 93:Lovely views, friendly helpful staff

Review 94:Nothing

Review 95:The room, the dog friendliness, the restaurant but most of all the perfect location ( half way between Kent and Yorkshire ) We will be back same time next year. Thankyou Pam ps I left my iPad in the room Susan let me know and posted it for me which was really kind

Review 96:Maybe my partner was unfortunate but she had to send her meal back so the following evening we ate at the wonderful Italian restaurant 10 minutes walk away. The curtain rail was broken and the duvet the thinnest we've ever had with no additional blankets. Not enough places were set for breakfast so they had to make up extra tables for us and another couple in a different room.

Review 97:Loved the location we had a room with a view of the reservoir.

Review 98:Pipes were noisy through the night - however we told reception about this and they couldn't apologise enough and we were compensated.

Review 99:We loved this hotel! It felt like we were completely away from everything! Nice relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast was yummy! Room was small but cosy. excellent customer service. Would go back again.

Review 100:Staff unable to cope with the open fire which was obviously a chore. Ran out of wood each night. Fried breakfast was poor. Sweet porridge

Review 101:Location by the lake is great Open fire and lounge with papers and comfortable "worn in" furniture.

Review 102:Bathroom was not clean which was very off putting. Bedroom decoration was 'tired'. Breakfast left to stew in metal containers very 1970s. They could very easily rectify this by having breakfasts cooked to order and fresh coffee serves from the bar

Review 103:Staff very friendly and helpful, particularly reception staff

Review 104:Bed hard, and pillows the usual polyester nightmare. For a dog friendly hotel there are no dog waste bins around the grounds which is slightly odd.

Review 105:Good rooms, beautiful outlook over Rutland Water, nice restaurant with tasty food. Portion size of pigeon breast starter possibly the smallest pigeon I've ever seen! Dog friendly.

Review 106:The room was very dated and the standard of cleanliness was extremely poor. The windows, net curtains, skirting and surface areas were dusty and there were lots of dead flies around the windows and stuck in the nets. The bathroom was freezing and it took a long time for the hot water to come through. Bizarrely there was a toilet roll holder in the wall inside the shower cubicle!

Review 107:The breakfast was ok.

Review 108:Lounge was very small . packed in evenings and difficult to get a seat. Tv was also always on. Breakfast was fine but spoons and tongs used for meat and non meat .. Little thought for vegetarians - tomatoes and black pudding in same tray. Evening meal was fine but they squashed couples together which made it feel claustrophobic especially as rest of restaurant was mostly empty. Small things that stop it being great.

Review 109:Location - right by the reservoir . Bedroom was clean and well furnished. Evening meal was good value. Plenty of attractions and pretty villages nearby.several good staff especially at reception .

Review 110:Green safety light on all night in the bedroom bedroom '' bijou'' and only one bedside table Radiators did nt work sometimes no staff at the bar as they were busy elsewhere

Review 111:Location overlooking rutland water and walking distance to nice restaurant

Review 112:We booked two suites which we payed the same amount for. But, one was a beautiful wedding suite and other was a slightly shabbie suite in a separate building from the main hotel. We were disappointed not to be in the main building.

Review 113:The hotel is lovely and the location is perfect!

Review 114:television in room is not in an ideal place...needs to be more central..... breakfast on previous visits has been excellent ...but on this occasion was awful....( maybe the chef had got up late as everything looked raw/undercooked )....very very poor...which considering the excellent evening meal we had had i found a little perplexing ...??...

Review 115:staff were excellent as always....the new manager was very attentive....lovely place to relax and unwind after the stresses of the hectic working week ....

Review 116:There was not anything to dislike.

Review 117:The location of this hotel we likened to being on the Italian Lakes. The hotel, staff and especially the food was wonderful. A beautifully cooked meal and then leather armchairs around a log fire with copies of the Times to read, just bliss. We did not previously know this part of England but we will in the future. We have promised ourselves a visit to this hotel.

Review 118:Bed was a little to hard but the overall experience and stay overruled this,,

Review 119:Staff couldn't have done anymore for us made our stay a stay to remember,, food was fantastic staff were professional and fantastic all our special requirements were met,,

Review 120:Small bedroom dwarfed by the bed Over bath shower temperature control was impossible, either too hot or too cold Staff were efficient but not very welcoming Heated towel rail didn't work; it was reported but not fixed and no feedback

Review 121:Location overlooking the lake Peaceful relaxed atmosphere Breakfast in the conservatory Four poster bedroom with views over the lake

Review 122:The bed was just a little too hard for my liking, but that is my only slight negative.

Review 123:The whole stay! All staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the hotel was clean and comfortable, breakfast excellent and dinner very good too. Lovely setting right by Rutland Water. Would definitely stay here again.

Review 124:The interior design is odd, slightly run down. The staff didn't always appear to understand their job. For example at breAkfast we had to ask for basic things. A housekeeper arrived too early to clean our room on the day that we were checking out.

Review 125:The location was ideal, the reception staff were helpful.

Review 126:The room was not the one promised on our booking form; booking said it had a balcony and was a spacious room, but the one were were given was small and stuffy. The 4-poster bed was ridiculous in such a small room and it was very uncomfortable.

Review 127:The view and the quiet were lovely.

Review 128:Room cleanliness left a lot to be desired. Room was tired. Veryfew staff.

Review 129:Location was convenient for Stamford (6.3 miles from town centre).Location was quiet (apart from the huge clock chiming on the roof).Ample parking.

Review 130:Restaurant menu was very limited and pricey. To eat on the company expenses budget I would have to eat in the bar.

Review 131:Lovely views, food was nice and staff very friendly and efficient

Review 132:Breakfast was pre cooked and left in Bain Marie's & just wasn't hot enough

Review 133:Lovely hotel, clean, friendly staff, Daniel the duty manager couldn't do enough ! Already booked for January

Review 134:I had a problem with the key card when I checked in ( which has happened to me in many hotels!) but the lady on reception dealt with the problem quickly and gave me an upgrade to a better room. The location is superb.

Review 135:The only thing that we would have preferred was a shower that you could stand under. Our room did have a hand held shower but if there had been a bracket on the wall to fix it to it would have been better.

Review 136:The food was all excellent and the service was good too. We ate in the hotel both nights and the food arrived promptly and was beautifully cooked and presented . The staff were all attentive and helpful. The breakfast was excellent too.

Review 137:Carpets in the room could do with cleaning/ replacing!

Review 138:Great bed! Great breakfast with friendly efficient staff! I checked in quite late and left early but a good hotel for the price :)

Review 139:Nothing !!!!

Review 140:We were upgraded to a room with a view over Rutland Water and an amazing jacuzzi bath for no extra cost. The lady on reception was extremely helpful by letting us store our bicycles in a locked building over night.

Review 141:Slightly old fashioned, i.e carpets and furniture although didn't personally mind it Needed more information about the area in the room pack Room pack restaurant menu was wrong and nearly didn't eat there. So glad we did as the food was excellent!

Review 142:The most beautiful location with a lake view, relaxed from the moment we arrived. Cosy atmosphere, came from not being a large hotel Excellent food and very attentive staff Attentative staff

Review 143:the hotel should have told us that there was going to be a wedding reception the night we were staying

Review 144:close to Burghley nice country location sadly a wedding the night we stayed spoilt the restful night we were hoping for

The Fine Print

Please note the restaurant will be closed on 31 December 2015.
