Reviews for Abbots Brae Hotel

Review 1:Shower was far too hot - was connected to taps and would go boiling hot every two seconds. Shame as the pressure was good. Lock also stuck on the door in the evening and took many attempts to get the lock to turn

Review 2:Location and view

Review 3:The hotel is a little shabby, surprised that it has 4 stars. Bedroom was lovely, housekeeping needs to be a little better.

Review 4:The view from the bedroom, the staff.

Review 5:People moan about the drive. If I can do it on a big Bmw touring bike in the wet, anyone can.The elevated position is worth it for the views.Leave the car on the road and walk. It's worth it up there.

Review 6:Honeymoon suite was amazing.Pics don't do it justice.Very nice place to be after a troubled journey.New Owners very welcoming and dinner(order on check in)was amazing. The four poster bed was very comfy, could've stayed in it all day.

Review 7:The location was amazing, what a beautiful view from our bedroom window. Graham , Claire and their staff were always so welcoming and friendly, couldn't do enough for us. A lovely atmosphere.

Review 8:Clare & Graham were excellent hosts, we felt totally welcome and relaxed. Good food and a well stocked bar. Amazing sea views. Will be going back.

Review 9:Steep drive up. Rooms a bit dated. Note to breakfast waitress that the smell of cigarettes and unkempt appearance are not good!

Review 10:Graham was very welcoming and helpful and the food was tasty and plentiful. Good size bedroom with nice view. Nice selection of toiletries.

Review 11:This property is advertised as being in the "Taste of Scotland", the reason I booked it. When we arrived we found new owners, and a very poor choice of dinner menu. Despite being surrounded by the sea and Lochs the chef owner told us he had " nae fish!" And suggested we could try to eat in town! When we asked if there was any cheese and crackers we were told, not available!! He seemed totally disinterested in his guests. However the breakfast was excellent, and the tea very good It was not anywhere near the Taste of Scotland standard however, and nervous drivers should be aware of the very steep road into the property.

Review 12:Warm and helpful welcome by new owners wife.

Review 13:The owners made us feel extremely welcome, we were the only guests due to a family party that weekend however they went out of their way to make us feel very much at home, even enjoying a drink with us when we arrived back after our wedding party had finished at a local hotel. Location is great, was perfect for us attending a wedding at the Park Hotel, there are amazing views and from what we could tell the couple who now own this b&b have grand plans to make it even better. We had a modern room to the rear of the property, spotlessly clean, very comfy bed and the molton brown toiletries were a lovely touch. Not to mention the cooked breakfast which was very yummy indeed!!

Review 14:My whole weekend was great. Wouldnt fault anything. Road up to Hotel is v steep may put less fit people off but didnt bother us.

Review 15:The staff were all lovely. Made us feel welcome. Room was warm + comfortable with a huge bed. Breakfast first class

Review 16:nothing to report!

Review 17:Warm welcome from Francois and his skill in the kitchen was superb! His dinner suggestions on the first evening sounded ideal and we took him up on it. Glad we did! Discussed and ordered the following evening meal right there & then :)

Review 18:Approach up front drive is very tight - steep and narrow - but also part of the charm of the place.

Review 19:Location. Wonderful view from very spacious king size bedroom. Delightful friendly reception from Francois. Best haddock and poached egg ever.

Review 20:A relatively average hotel by UK standard however my only issue was that there was a man peering in my room window after hours, this was very unnerving made my partner extremely uncomfortable and frightened.

Review 21:That the hotel is only a short drive to Colintrive

Review 22:There was nothing to dislike about this property.

Review 23:With a very warm welcome we were shown to a magnificent bedroom, with wonderful views. The quality of the decoration everywhere was quite stunning and the breakfast perfect - especially sitting in the window table! We will make every effort to return to this marvellous place.

Review 24:Location is up a dark, damp and very steep drive

Review 52:Nothing

Review 53:The personal service offered by the owners and staff is exceptional, this has to be the best hotel in Dunoon without exception also brilliant views.

Review 54:Was fantastic to be able to bring our dog with us. The staff were very friendly and were always ensuring we had anything and everything we could possibly need. We were treated like royalty and had an amazing time. We will definaty be back.

Review 55:While we had a fantastic stay there were three things which slightly detracted from our stay: The bed was hard and lumpy. The shower had to be adjusted using the taps, so it was difficult to set a comfortable water temperature. Wi-fi was poor, with slow download speeds.

Review 56:Christine was lovely: interested in us and immensely helpful; she gave us excellent advice which helped us make the most of our stay. Views from the hotel were fantastic and wildlife in the hotel grounds were a joy to watch.

Review 57:We booked late and could only stay for two nights. => Our own fault. ;-)

Review 58:Christine and Colin are excellent hosts! Christine is a sorceress in the kitchen. Everything is clean and the staff is very friendly. We will come back! The pleasure was definitely on our side.

Review 62:I have no negatives at all regarding this business,it is superb in every respect.

Review 63:Christine and Colin go out of their way to make all their guests feel welcome, they make the effort to learn names and use them. Nothing is too much trouble, their hotel is maintained to a very high standard and the food is at least equal to any 4* hotel. The hotel grounds are a haven for the local wildlife, who are also fed to a high standard!

Review 64:the welcome from Colin and Christine warm and friendly. The menu for both dinner and breakfast had good choices; and was delicious and well presented. Icing on the cake for me was the sight of my first red squirrel as we enjoyed breakfast.

Review 65:It is not a 4 star hotel by any stretch of the imagination so we left there and went to a real 4 star hotel. If you want a b&b then it's awesome

Review 66:It would be a great 4 star b&b. it is clean and appropriately sized as a b&b

Review 67:Everything was perfect, they even helped me to order a roses bouquet tosurprise my girlfriend.Todo fue perfecto, hasta me ayudaron a pedir un ramo de rosas para sorprender a mi novia.
