Reviews for Esplanade Hotel

Review 1:Bathroom was a tad small. Sat on the toilet your knees particularly touch the door.

Review 2:It is a 5 minute stroll along the front into town. Fast booking in. Lovely decorated room.

Review 3:position of hotel to town centre, did not need to leave the hotel for meals or drink, staff very nice and helpful, have rebooked for a second weeks stay.

Review 4:The rooms were comfortable, nicely furnished and they were warm. We also appreciated the lift as we were on the second floor.I certainly would recommend the Esplanade Hotel to anyone booking a stay in Dunoon

Review 5:Booked the hotel because said it had entertainment, but there was none and we had to go out. Nothing much happening anywhere else either.

Review 6:Location. Nice room and breakfast.

Review 7:Had a lovely stay , can't fault the hotel , also got a upgrade with sea view at no extra cost very happy , going back next year , totally recommend staying here

Review 8:Walls very thin. Other noisy guests could be heard running up and down outside our room to different rooms. Directions don't mention no access from front. Added £20 onto out bill saying it was a booking fee. When we asked to have it back after reading booking.coms comments, the receptionist said she was not able to give refunds and only the manager could do that. After a lot of questions we determined he wasn't there for another 3 days. And visited infrequently. Not acceptable

Review 9:Rooms basic but clean

Review 10:No entertainment on nights we were there. A bit disappointed as it was our anniversary.

Review 11:The staff were very smart and helpful . The bed was comfortable but small double.

Review 12:the bar could be staffed better someone with experence.no entertainment ment we had to go out at night to look for some and spend money elswhere.

Review 13:staff nice and friendly helpful.food good but small portions.

Review 14:We were only provided with one thin pillow. Car park is small and no alternatives nearby.

Review 15:Location was good. Staff were friendly. Room very clean and tidy and was a good size.

Review 16:The room next to the bar smelled quite badly of damp

Review 17:The staff were so nice, ideally located and the sea views from the bedroom are beautiful., surprisingly large bedroom. Recommend the steak pie for dinner....all in all very good value for money

Review 18:My room was close to the reception (no 305) and a long corridor. I went to bed quite early (10.30 pm) and was disturbed by the noise outside my room - footsteps and chatter and laughter until about midnight. My friends' rooms were on the third floor and had no problems - one even had a lovely waterside view.

Review 19:Location - excellent

Review 20:Bathroom door would not shut due to poor latch. Need a shelf in the shower to put shampoo and such.

Review 21:Nightly entertainment, staff, food, close to downtown.

Review 22:whats not to like?

Review 23:Loved the rooms and view over the garden to the sea. Liked the Scottish Night food and entertainment. Liked the house pink fizz and the smashing staff

Review 24:Double room a bit small. There was a wedding celebration taking place just along the corridor and there was noise late into the night.

Review 25:Location. Good parking. Good breakfast.

Review 26:This hotel if I can call it a hotel is very poor all round to say the least. Absolutley appalling food. Rooms are disgusting and the door handles to mail entrance are filthy and that set the tone for the stay. Windows have never been cleaned for months I would say. Run down dump of a place please stay away if you like your comfort and a clean hotel with decent food. AVOID !!!!

Review 27:Nothing at all totally unaceptable run down hovel.

Review 28:All foreign staff who fouñd it hard to understand us which led to us not getting what we ordered for breakfast. Sun terrace only had six old seats and no tables. We arrived just after 2o'clock and our room was not ready for another half hour.

Review 29:Location and views were excellent. The room was large and clean with a beautiful bathroom.

Review 30:Breakfast was served a little too late for a business trip, though the excellent gent on reception did offer a packed lunch.

Review 31:Lovely staff, excellent WiFi, location on sea front. Great value for money. Would be nice to stay on a relaxing holiday.

Review 32:Decor and facilities were tired and rather outdated - that said there is a high level of cleanliness. Not sure the man in my party appreciated the pink flowery soft furnishings!

Review 33:Convenient central location. Very helpful and friendly staff - everyone we met was smiling.

Review 34:Double glazing panes were misted which spoiled the side sea view. Suggest that seals are replaced.

Review 35:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Value for money. Sea view, when windows were opened. Loved the Funky bathroom wall covering.

Review 36:Difficulty at first trying to park the car, but someone noticed us and directed us to some waste ground adjacent to the hotel.

Review 37:Room very comfortable, staff friendly, good choice of breakfast.

Review 38:The heating only came on at certain times

Review 39:we were changed to rooms upstairs with great views. Staff were very helpful as mum is disabled and needed the lift. Food was good only downside was we only had entertainment on the Saturday night. None on the Friday x

Review 40:The dining room needs attention as well as breakfast dining experience, not good but staff were extremely obliging but overworked. Better if cereal and juices were buffets style to give staff a chance to take orders and deliver them without it feeling all rushed.

Review 41:Staff were brilliant and the room was very clean and comfortable. The sea view was gorgeous........very relaxing.

Review 42:Nothing

Review 43:Lovely large, bright room with great sea views. Quiet spot on sea front away from main road. Close to ferry terminal and shops. Friendly and helpful staff. Large first floor balcony to watch the world go by and the sun going down.

Review 44:Breakfast was spoilt by awful music played at high volume .Considering the age of the guests (60+) something more gentle would have been appreciated.

Review 45:our bedroom had a lovely modern bathroom with a really good shower and was tastefully furnished.

Review 46:Arriving at the hotel via the back door doesn't give a great first impression however everything gets better following this minor issue.

Review 47:Fantastic helpful and cheerful staff. Great food and service. Some rooms newly updated, some a bit dated but still cosy and exceptionally clean. Compliments to the housekeeping staff. Good evening entertainment, so no need to leave the hotel after dark.

Review 48:Our experience here still seems surreal. Tight hallways that go on forever, up stairs, down stairs, through large rooms. There was no sense to it and I worried if there were a fire, could we figure out how to get out. Head of bed lower than the foot, "upgraded" to a sea view room whose windows howled with the wind and thin curtains could not block out lights shining up from the lawn onto the hotel sign. Tub was chipped and rusted. Surprised at booking.com even offering it. Goes against the message in all their commercials.

Review 49:Helpfully staff very friendly.Comfortable surroundings lovely to sit outside watching the sunset . Clean and comfortable room definitely recommend it . Best location and view in town so near bus terminal and ferry .

Review 50:Great location close to the passenger ferry terminal and city centre. Well kept garden with lovely views out over the water. Clean and well-decorated room with very comfortable bed. Helpful staff. Tasty breakfast

Review 51:First impressions were dull, as vehicular access is to the rear of hotel where the car park is. ( the front of the hotel leads directly onto the promenade and has no vehicle access)

Review 52:My room must have been recently refurbished as everything seemed brand spanking new. Breakfast was very good and staff most polite, friendly, and efficient.

Review 53:Curtains not completely dark hence sunlight could still come in

Review 54:Window view facing sea, generous second helping during inclusive breakfast, helpful staff at reception as well as restaurant/cafe

Review 55:Parking very difficult esp as we came back late. No hot water in the morning because of a boiler problem.

Review 56:After many buffet breakfasts in other hotels, it was a pleasure to have a menu and be served (very quickly). Lovely outdoor areas to enjoy the wonderful view.

Review 57:We have never met such great staff. Nothing was too much trouble. We were staying there to travel to the Commonwealth Games. One morning we had a very early start and the evening before a whole 'breakfast buffet' was brought to our room to allow us to eat before we left. Whole bottles of juice and milk, grapefruit, bread and even a toaster. A great location to visit other areas. We were originally shown to quite a small room but after asking for a new room we were given one that was much better. Be prepared for some coaches but that didn't detract at all. The Scottish evening was great with our own Bagpipe player, Scottish dancers and haggis!

Review 58:This hotel is in desperate need of refurbishment. The decor is very '80's and the furniture is falling apart. I stayed one night only thank goodness as there was no hot water in my room, nor in a friends along the corridor. Breakfast was awful and it felt like it was too much trouble for the waiter to serve us!

Review 59:Location was fabulous with fantastic views of the river Clyde

Review 60:Very warm in bedroom. Shower in room was tiny and shower tray was losing its ceramic coating

Review 61:Location is great. Staff are lovely especially our little asian waitress. She was really smiley. Breakfast is superb. Reception staff are lovely. Rooms are well decorated.

Review 62:The dinner menu was quite basic and portion size was really small but massively overcharged (3 course meal for £20).

Review 63:The room we stayed was on the top floor, the carpet was light cream and the room decor was very bright and delightful, we don't like dark green carpet for example! The seaview from the room was fantastic. Overall good value for money, will book again.

Review 64:The coach parties complaining about the speed of breakfast to them. I would recommend an earlier start 7.30am min or buffet to improve the service for them. For me it was fine.

Review 65:The beautiful view of the Clyde and beach from the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the Scottish dancing. Everything I needed was available. Dunoon is a great place to holiday.

Review 66:Restaurant arrangements - no sign to say to wait to be seated therefore I seated myself by window. Polite member of staff took my breakfast order but then an abrupt officious young woman who was obviously in charge of restaurant strode forward and said I had to move as table was booked. No sign on table and most of restaurant remained empty for all of the time I was there. Disappointing that one member of staff can let down an otherwise excellent hotel.

Review 67:Room really comfortable and bath an extra bonus. Location of hotel gave fantastic views. A relaxing and peaceful stay,

Review 68:No 24hr reception, which meant checking out for us was very difficult as we needed to leave at 6:20am on the day of departure, had to search for a member of staff to leave the key with, had to bang on the kitchen door to find someone. Bar closed very early. No provision for people leaving early and not being able to attend breakfast, which was only open at 8:30am-9:30am

Review 69:Views were very nice (expect out of our room) Staff were very helpful, but there could be more of them. We needed to leave before breakfast was served, should have had two mornings breakfast. On one of the days they made us a packed lunch instead, which was very nice.

Review 70:My only negative was the shower wasn't powerful at all. I assumed this was because the majority of guests were probably getting ready for the day all at the same time. Breakfast was OK I felt a buffet would have been better, that is a personal opinion due to the fact I'm vegetarian so I felt the option was a little limited.

Review 71:Staff were all great. Reception was great even helped us with ferry times and recommended restaurants in the area... we fancied a curry! Very comfortable and modern room, super comfy bed! Great location, we love being by the sea! We will be back!! Dunoon is gorgeous!

Review 72:my one gripe was to be charged £4.20 for two packets of crisps and two small packets of peanuts

Review 73:It is a very friendly hotel - staff are great - always have entertainment - food is good I have stayed four times now

Review 74:The full car park
