Reviews for Preston Sands Hotel

Review 1:The shower was a bit awkward to use. And there is some occasional noise from the railway line behind the hotel( but not to bad)

Review 2:Good location and friendly staff. Free entertainment when we were there.

Review 3:On my first morning on attending breakfast,no table number laid for my room,a but embarrassing standing there before one of the girls asked then had to lay up a table for me,just a little embarrassing having the residents staring

Review 4:My stay as before was very good nothing bad at all

Review 5:Don't book a standard room as they are pretty grim. Hotel is a bit tired and could with some money spending on it.

Review 6:The location was brilliant and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The seaview rooms are worth paying extra for. Breakfast was very good.

Review 7:The room was small, very noisy from the railway and other guests. Didn't bother with breakfast, couldn't wait to get out of the place.

Review 8:The room was clean. Parking on site.

Review 9:there was nothing we didn't enjoy about our stay here.

Review 10:It was close to the town without being in the heart of it, lovely view of the beach, excellent value for money. The staff were very helpful and attentive.

Review 11:Room was like a box, shower cubicle and bathroom quite dirty, bedding however was clean. evening meal was not good, with other guests also complaining to the waitress.

Review 12:Loved the sea view, and access to lift for higher floors

Review 13:The room wasn't very clean, it wasn't very big and when asked if there was an alternative to bacon and sausage the waitress just said egg, tomatoes and beans, I had to ask if there were mushrooms, after finishing my breakfast I checked menu and it said veggie sausages but waitress never said there was.

Review 14:The view and location

Review 15:We had a great stay, All staff were fantastic. Great night in the bar. We even had an upgrade to a balcony room for the first night at no extra charge. A very friendly place.

Review 16:On arrival Eddie the manager welcomed me with a big, friendly cuddly hug! Just what I needed as I am a lone visitor, and I love a hug! He was friendly and so kind and understanding as I cannot walk very far at all, or carry, pull my case..He kindly offered to bring all my belongings up to my room. He showed me where the hotel lift was. This was a million % bonus for me. This made my stay even more easy. The room I had was "simply the best !" a sea view which I requested, the room was perfect. Plus a huge balcony facing the sea of course, just heavenly. The weather was so hot the first day of my holiday, that I could sunbathe on a borrowed Sun lounger on this bliss full Balcony in the full Sun, just watching the beautiful Sea of Torbay. This is truly why it is called "The English Rivera" ! All the waiting staff in the hotel's restaurant were extremely happy and helpful. The room cleaners were of the highest standard for cleaning and replenishing stocks for the room with the utmost help to me when I had to move rooms. They helped me pack, and carried every single bag I had to the new room a few doors away. The receptionist "Emma" is a true professional at her job and is also very friendly and helpful.I have booked for many trips back to this wonderful hotel at regular intervals for most of all of next year 2016. That's how impressed I was and am with the Preston Sands Hotel. The last thing, one of the most important. The nightly free varied professional, musical entertainment, was also wonderful. Again, even these Artists were friendly and absolutely fantastic, and had most of the guests up dancing within a very short time of them starting their own performances Simply Wonderful.! I loved every single minute from the time I got up.

Review 17:We were made to feel very welcome by Eddie the manager as soon as we got there, cracking bloke cheers for the drink Brian was our barman lovely chap, nothing was too much trouble room was lovely and clean view was awesome and the staff were friendly and very helpful

Review 18:Rooms are very old fashioned decor and seemed geared to an elderly audience

Review 19:The staff were really friendly and really helpful. They couldn't be faulted.

Review 20:Not a criticism but it should be borne in mind the hotel usually has a coach party booked in,however in our experience individual guests get equal attention and use of facilities available.

Review 21:Hotel offers very good value for money and has friendly staff. The aspect of the hotel is excellent with many rooms having sea views. Being in a cul de sac it is also quiet.

Review 22:our third visit and as good as it gets, same staff always happy, lovely view, good food good bar and so relaxing with the beach and sea not more than 20yds away , just great already booked for next year in may

Review 23:Nothing

Review 24:The welcome on arrival was excellent the price in the bar is good 2.50 a pint shorts 2 the room very clean and breakfast was good the location is first class right on the beach

Review 25:The reception area and the corridors of this hotel were slightly claustrophobic.

Review 26:The twin room was clean tidy and comfortable, the sea views were an added bonus. The hotel had a lift. The dining room was large and breakfast served efficiently and in a friendly manner. Excellent value for money.

Review 27:Small room, toilet smelled dreadful, shower tiny. All quite dated, but bearable. Car park required double parking. Balcony a nice touch, but not very private as neighbours can easily look atound screens.

Review 28:Good location, nice sea view from the balcony. Lots of plug points.Comfort level was decent. Quiet at night.

Review 29:Our twin room was double booked, so we were given a discount for a two single rooms for first night, room was not up to standard. Second night we were given a twin room which was not the one we booked on internet. So we decided not to stay a second night, so lost our money, but that was our choice. Very noisy at the back of hotel with trains passing close to room, this was not described when booking. Due to thin walls very noisy person next door, could hear everything.

Review 30:Beautiful location, good breakfast, friendly staff

Review 31:Our room very dated shower had mould shower curtain dirty needs replacing lovely view but dirty windows and carpet badly marked desperately needs re vamp.

Review 32:Breakfast was brill dining room very clean

Review 33:Room could do with a lick of paint, really could do with a new shower.

Review 34:Staff very friendly,hotel very clean,good breakfast,great location,had entertainment in the night.

Review 35:Staff very friendly and very helpful. Hotel was spotless.very good breakfast. With the option of evening meal 3 courses with coffee for 10pound a head Top class food. Also bar prices very reasonable with cabaret most nights. Also we had a wonderful sea view.

Review 36:It is a little run down but this is reflected in the price paid , it is very cheap. The entertainment is dated and could either be updated or simply not provided.

Review 37:Really good location with perfect sea view and view of the bay. Breakfast was fine and prices for drinks in the bar are exceptionally good.

Review 38:For the price we paid you could not ask for any more than we got. Thissmall hotel stands tall amongst it like for like rivals. Entertainmentevery night fantastic bar prices. ( almost half price of a pub perpint of lager) We had a excellent stay,so relaxed ,so comfortable, can't fault at all. Will be back with the grandchildren soon. Kenand janet hudson.

Review 39:The Base of the bed was broken which made it very squeaky.

Review 40:Room was great fabulous view of the sea. Helpful and pleasant staff. Room was clean and we'll laid out.

Review 41:could not get a drink after 12 even though we were residents.

Review 42:Great view overlooking the sea, good breakfast, good staff....Good for a 2 star accommodation.

Review 43:the breakfast was not very satisfying you could not add more of anything and u only got a set breakfast very tiny

Review 44:the views from the hotel room was lovely

Review 45:Not one thing------just wished I booked a room with a balcony lol

Review 46:The hotel was in the perfect location.and all the staff were so friendly. And what can I say about the food it was second to none was excellent .will definitely come back.

Review 47:We could feel the springs in the mattress which made for an uncomfortable sleep. I was tired enough that I barely noticed but my husband had less luck. There were socks left in our room from the previous guests as well as a razor cover. The toilet was very indecisive on when it wanted to flush, and the shower looked dingy - in need of a makeover and a new shower curtain. I'm not trying to say this to complain, it's just how it was, and we didn't spend much time in our room so we didn't end up mentioning it to the front desk because it just wasn't a big deal to us.

Review 48:The staff is very kind and helpful. I'm sure if we would have mentioned any of our problems to them they would have been more than happy to fix any of our problems but we didn't want to be a bother and we managed just fine.

Review 49:The pleasant and helpful staff nothing too much trouble. the room was excellent with a lovely view. great entertainment on the sat night, will deffianately stay again, a ready trying to book for October

Review 50:nothing bad to say

Review 51:excellent customer service especially Emma on reception and Linda in the dining room - amazing view across the bay was priceless- wsill be returning

Review 52:I did not like having to take my breakfast at 8.30am. All guests are FORCED to take their breakfast at that time even when they are not part of a tour!!! Hotel seems a danger in the event of a fire, with narrow, winding corridors and steep stairs. Because of average age on bus tours many are immobile.

Review 53:Good parking for customers with cars.

Review 54:The bedroom overall was incredibly tired and worn but comfortable for our one night stay but no hairdryer. The bathroom was something else, the bottom of the shower curtain was black all the way around, towels were small and hooks hanging off the wall. If I had to stay for more than one night then I would have asked to b moved

Review 55:The staff were all lovely and location was fab

Review 56:Everything apart from the rooms, they were not that special. But overall was fine, would go again.Waitress we had was excellent, all staff very friendly

Review 57:RELAXING,lovely views, and nice walks, fish n chip shop up the road which I would highly recommended

Review 58:Received a room basically 2 meters away from the reception, been noisy whole night, last thing you want after many hours driving. After finally managed to fall asleep, I got woke up in the morning by the fire alarm ( not just me, the whole hotel ), 15 minutes later there was a man that came in to the room to check if room's alarm is allright ( at least he knocked on the door ), after another 15 minutes the same man came again ( opened the door directly with the key, didn't even knocked or whatsoever ) - while I was changing, realising after that he already checked that room. Seriously?

Review 59:Location

Review 60:Some of the areas look their age - bed was a little hard and a little small!

Review 61:What a view - Loved the location Breakfast was served at listening speed with a smile

Review 62:Couldn't buy a snack/sandwich /pasty on the eve.. Entertainment wasn't on. . Could do with a bit of a face lift.. No pets allowed..

Review 63:Lovely location.. Friendly.. Parking .. It had a bar.. And alcohol was cheep too.. Nice breakfast.

Review 64:The room was small tatty not clean, bathroom from the 70's, backing onto railway line. The food was not very good, not being fresh but overcooked. Being on ground floor, was good for my father, but music in bar and singing wasn't so nice. With so many hotels near by, in better locations,I would not recommend Preston sands.

Review 65:Let's just say my father of 90 liked it.

Review 66:Breakfast could have been a bit larger lol but all meals were great and more importantly they were hot and stayed hot until you had finished

Review 67:The staff are great have some good laughs . it was quite which is exactly what we wanted there was a stag weekend at the hotel and I was a bit apprehensive but all were great no problems at all it was that nice there we are booked to go again in august and are taking 3 teenagers with us

Review 68:Marathon weekend! We had to stay in resort until noon on Sunday as therewere no roads left open for us to leave. This is not good enough &is of course the Council's fault. Fire alarm went off at midnightdue to a man smoking. Not the hotels fault. Good job we weren't toldwho the culprit was!

Review 69:Central enough to enjoy all we wanted to do, far enough not to hear thelate night revellers

Review 70:I had no idea that this hotel was largely for coach parties. Unless you like a hugely crowded breakfast room, inflexible breakfast time, no breakfast buffet (all served), and extremely loudly amplified nightly 'entertainment' (bingo and then an ageing crooner from 7pm to 11pm), then stay away!

Review 71:The very obliging and efficient staff who will do everything to make your stay as happy as possible. The position, on the quieter, more attractive Preston Sands, is preferable to a hotel in the middle of town.

Review 72:Nothing bad to report . All was well will go back again .

Review 73:The hotel is right by the beach . Lovely and quite and beautifully scenery . Drinks are cheap and a lovely friendly chilled atmosphere . Nice getaway for some chill time .

Review 74:The hotel is 10 steps from the beach and although it is 2 star it really should be 3 in our opinion. The staff were very friendly. We as Led for a sea view room and had a panoramic view of the Bay. So good we stayed an extra night!

Review 75:Shower was smallest I've ever seen shower head to high and stuck to the wall with writing for hot and cold

Review 76:Breakfast was excellent service excellant

Review 77:The location was perfect, looking right out at the sea. Close enough but far enough away from the main strip. Would definitely stop here again. Breakfast was excellent and staff very friendly.

Review 78:Nothing to write here...

Review 79:I always have wanted to visit the Torbay area, I could not have picked a better Hotel. Position can't be faulted, cleanliness is what you would expect faultless, food brilliant and always hot, staff more than helpful..The best I can say is," I will be back ".

Review 80:We had a very comfortable stay at this hotel for the one night we were passing through Paignton. We were especially pleased with the entertainment in the bar on Saturday night as we hadn't expected it. A singer with an exceptional voice entertained us with a wide range of songs and we had a very enjoyable stay at this hotel with very helpful staff.

Review 81:There isn't anything we didn't like

Review 82:The owner and his workers were very lovely/funny people. Made sure we were happy right the way through - definitely will come back!

Review 83:Lovely hotel. Great location with wonderful sea views. The staff were friendly and helpful. Room was clean and tidy. Breakfast was excellent. Would definately reccommend.

Review 84:me and my partner stayed here for 3 nights and it was amazing, friendly staff, we stuggled to understand why its only a 2 star hotel, our room was perfect, lovely view and spotlessly clean! we loved our stay and didn't want to leave, we will definitely be returning!

Review 85:I was only there to sleep did not see anything i did not like.

Review 86:were it is situated right by the sea you can sit eating your breakfast looking out at the sea.

Review 87:I at home sleep in a double bed and not used to a single bed this is not a criticism the question was what didn't I like it was not a problem

Review 88:The general outlook of the staff, they tried and succeeded to help in every way

Review 89:the room was very unclean, with stains and cigarette burns on carpet, and had not been cleaned for a very long time, we were also put in room close to railway line and little sleep was had by all. there was no fruit at breakfast, and English breakfast was all piled together on the plate. We would never stay their again.

Review 90:The position was close to sea and sands very good for children

Review 91:The General Manager was insulting to me when I left, unprovoked. The general cleanliness of carpets and interior is dated and of a very poor standard. Disliked having a train running past my window at regular intervals which I had not been warned about.

Review 92:The young lady who greeted me was very welcoming and kind.

Review 93:The location was excellent for touring the area and the sea view from our bedroom was fantastic. The Staff were particularly friendly. The meals were a delight and so cheap e.g, 3 course meal £10. Happy hour in the bar was from 3pm till 10.30 with beer at £2.50 a pint and spirits at £2. There was superb entertainment each night. We stayed for 6 nights. I would recommend an upgrade to a sea view which is only a nominal charge.

Review 94:I was hoping that the offer of £27 per night was a good occasional deal but in fact I got what I paid for. A cupboard space turned into a room with no sound proofing from the music below.

Review 95:Location was good

Review 96:10-15 minutes walk into the centre of paignton which was fine for us but some may find difficult.

Review 97:Rooms very clean, staff welcoming to our party. Free breakfast and parking also a big plus!

Review 98:Toilet was difficult to flush in the room. Choice of eating options was very limited outside the hotel. Mostly fast food and fish and chips

Review 99:Location was good and the area was very pleasant for a good walk on the beach

Review 100:had a fantastic time we are planning to return and would like a sea view next time .......... breakfast was very nice ....... staff were very friendly .

Review 101:Our room and the hotel corridors are rather pokey, very much a sea-side 2-star BnB.

Review 102:The location just behind the beach and the adequate parking. Beds were comfortable and the room was clean if a little tired. Breakfast was good and overall our stay was comparatively good value.

Review 103:ill fitting bedroom windows meant noisy, chilly and draughty room. we purchased cello tape to seal off windows - problem solved!

Review 104:Friendly staff good atmosphere in the hotel entertainment good drinks good value easy walking distance from town

Review 105:No bad experience, even though the hotel is rated with 2 stars, the services it provides exceeds the standards of some 3 stars hotels I've stayed in the past

Review 106:This has been the second time I have stayed at this hotel, I liked every aspect of the hotel, the friendly/professional & helpful staff, the location, the room couldn't fault the hotel on anything, Some modernisation is required of cause!! But this hasn't had any detrimental effect on our stay. Well done Guys, hopefully We would return again. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Review 107:C.ould`nt fault it

Review 108:Clean hotel and friendly staff made our stay great. The bed and bedroom were very good but, if there was a fault, I would suggest an up-date in the bathroom although it was very clean.

Review 109:No hairdryer in the room, had to ask for one at reception, no blackout curtains - sun Wakes you up very early morning, couldn't pay with American express, couldn't choose table at breakfast.cleaner entered room at 8:47am without reason when we were all in bed a day before our departure.

Review 110:Good sized rooms, comfortable bed, tea and coffee making facilities, sea view, good sized bathroom, binoculars were a nice addition! Tasty breakfast with attentive staff.

Review 111:The location of the hotel was right on the sea front, the sea so close you could hear the waves crashing, stunning views of Torquay and Berry Head.Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 112:some carpets were rather jaded/ bathroom needed better cleaning/TOO MUCH Country & Western(it made my ears bleed)How about a bit of Northern & Tamla ??

Review 113:Fantastic view & good loation.Eddie the manager was very friendly/good sense of humour/very attentive Linda our waitress was very friendly/good sense of humour/ very professional/ only problem was she supports Arsenal/ HO HO Bar prices extremely reasonable. Will definitely go back. Evening meals were very good & terrific value.

Review 114:Marks on the bottom of the valence of the bed, rooms a tad dusty apart from that ( being really picky ) everything else was amazing

Review 115:The sea views are amazing! Great location and all the staff are really friendly, will be coming again

Review 116:The rooms are slightly dated - not an issue for this price though! Also a train lines runs alongside our room ...but wasn't late night trains so again did not bother us.

Review 117:Welcome by friendly and helpful staff. Rooms were comfortable and clean. The bar had a '£2 a drink' which was brilliant and entertainment from a lovely lady called Lindsey...everyone singing along and had a great atmosphere. Would not hesitate to stay again... runs right along the beach. Brilliant

Review 118:The hotel is in an ideal location with amazing views of the sea. The service was exceptional from the offset. The rooms could do with updating but they were clean spacious and comfy. The views from the breakfast room in the morning are breath taking. Each room has it's own table in the restaurant so there's no queing up to eat you just go to your allocated table. There is a selection of cereals and juices followed by a full English or egg on toast and the service is friendly and fast, I would defo recommend

Review 119:The staff are so friendly , nothing is too much trouble for them . The hotel which has a fabulous setting on the sea front has a homely welcoming atmosphere

Review 120:Set time for breakfast - 8.30 am - way too late for me - breakfsat itself was underwhelmingly average (we didn't bother with it on day 2) A bit old fashioned No shampoo in the bathrooms (just bodywash lotion) Walls were a bit thin - the people in the next room decided to watch football after midnight - I could hear every word of the commentary

Review 121:Nice location, right on the seafront Decent value for money Staff were just fine Rooms were clean and acceptable

Review 122:got told of at breakfast because I helped myself to orange drink , told to sit and staff would serve us, first time for me not to help one's self

Review 123:There was a coach load of people there which was no problem as the staff managed ok, also there was a singer and ale was only £2.00 pint so fun was had by all

Review 124:No real dislikes the room was a bit hot for me but that is just personal preference, I opened the window.simples!

Review 125:The hotel was very welcoming with friendly staff and relaxing atmosphere.Lovely views from the restaurant and bar.planning to go back later in the year.

Review 126:Not a single thing

Review 127:I was welcomed early but allowed to check-in anyway. Talked to, welcomed to dinner, welcomed to the bar, entertained, fed with good quality food decent menu, room had a fabulous view, balcony overlooking the bays, plenty of parking,

Review 128:Eddie the manager help us arrange a wedding party at very short notice we all had a fantastic time lovely hotel very comfortable beds clean value for money breakfast very good service and will be going back this summer . .

Review 129:Soft mattresses, worn floor boards. condensation in windows spoils what would have been fantastic sea views

Review 130:The staff were helpful and polite. Location fantastic.

Review 131:Cleanliness was poor in places, kettle in room leaked when pouring hot water, and room was next to railway line.

Review 132:It was close to the beach, easy to find.
