Reviews for St Andrews Guest House
Review 1:Radiator was broken , not hot enough, shower was broken, water scolding hot, no way to turn it down as the temperature gauge was broken
Review 2:Convenient location reasonable prices
Review 3:The fact that there were no staff on site was weird The radiator in our room did not work. People came back late at night and were making a lot of noise.
Review 4:It was easy to find and access
Review 5:the wifi is only in main area, not a lot of parking, walls were a little thin for the noise.
Review 6:the price was very cheap, the room fit our family of six well with an ensuite, outlets next to the beds with lights, great sitting room downstairs with fast wifi.
Review 7:felt very insecure, as front door didn't lock, internal door with security lock didn't lock so left exposed all of the time. Very bady insulated as the man upstairs kept us awake all night with his very loud snoring !!! Towels were not large enough, never saw a member of staff for all the 3 days we were there.
Review 8:Good car parking, beds made every day, towels changed every day
Review 9:There was no on-site staff. We were there 3 days and never saw anyone and our emails were not answered. The grounds were not taken care of and the beds sheets were sandy.
Review 10:Location
Review 11:Could not turn the radiator off in room 1. Emergency fire drill could have been clearer.(on back of door) no clock
Review 12:Access. Clean rooms. Big shower. Nice soap. Facilities very good.
Review 13:Beds were comfortable, we were suprised to find 2 rooms. We knew there wasn't a lot of amenities - there is no pool or sweeping vistas; but if you are looking for a good, comfortable room, with good wifi, good location, quiet - then you love this place. There is also a dining room that we didn't use but it was nice know it was there.
Review 14:Place was clean and comfortable, we had trouble finding the room key but we did! No staff at the location but that was funr, we had s code for front door.!
Review 15:For cheap accommodation one should not expect quality fittings. Smokers outside front door & bedroom window.
Review 16:Good for overnight stay to catch early morning ferry to Arran. Arrived late evening and gained easy access to room just as described in helpful directions. Left early morning so saw no staff but had no need to. VERY cheap accommodation for 2 adults & 2 grown-up children.
Review 17:Nothing to do with the guest house, but very loud and noisy people in the upstairs rooms, moving and banging furniture and running around all night. On the booking confirmation it said there was a fridge and microwave in each room, this was not the case it was a shared kitchen and dining room which was accessible to use.
Review 18:Rooms were big enough for two single beds in each room, and clean and comfortable
Review 19:There were workers staying and the noise was terrible at 6 am. Guests hadnt cleaned up after them, dirty microwave etc. We think they need checking and kept clean.
Review 20:The size of the room. The arrival and checking in. nice sitting room and the kitchen had loads of equipment, 2 fridge freezers, huge stove/oven, 3 toasters, couple of kettles, filter coffee machine etc. Super.
Review 21:I can't think of anything.
Review 22:The information on the Booking.Com Website was accurate. The room was clean, the beds were comfortable, everything worked and it was great value.
Review 23:Checking out at 10am on a Sunday morning!!!!
Review 24:Clean and tidy rooms, good tv in each room, good shower and comfortable. Wifi easy to commect to. Other facilities in guest room looked great, sitting room, kitchen and fridge etc. but only saw this as we were leaving. Great location for the town. Would stay again if check out time was at least 12 on a Sunday!
Review 25:Thanks for a lovely comfortable night had a great comfy sleep facilities where good very central local ammenities. Thanks a definite stay again when on business there.thank you.
Review 26:The shower fluctuated from hot to really cold and took me twice as long
Review 27:No hassle getting into room and just a short walk from a brilliant town centre and the train station
Review 28:Having to get up at 4am for an early flight.
Review 29:Very handy for Prestwick which we were heading to for an early morning flight. Despite turning up very late and leaving very early all instructions were clear and we all got a decent sleep.
Review 30:Bed pillows. Uncomfortable sleep for duration.(4 nights) Room next to laundry room and washing machine on late in the evening. No FRIDGE OR MICROWAVE in room as stated in description from booking. Shower going cold at times, plus noise level from other guest next to our room was very loud. parking was a bit of a nightmare as well.
Review 31:Cleanliness rooms were clean and the staff were good. Always refilled room with coffee etc.....
Review 32:The room was clean and the facilities were good. The staff were helpful. It really felt like home away from home. The location was good for getting to the town centre and station with ease if you enjoy a brisk walk. Very good value for money.
Review 33:Very poor soundproofing. Heard every word people in room above said. Arrived at 2pm and had to wait for nearly two hours for room to be ready, yet were expected to vacate room at 10.00am on day of departure. The fact that the owners were not on the premises; indeed no-one was, except the other guests.
Review 34:Location. Easy walking distance from town centre. Free Wi-Fi Good, friendly comms.
Review 35:We arrived late evening, there was no staff onsite, had to contact them via phone to get in, didn't see any staff at all.
Review 36:the room, facilities and location were excellent
Review 37:The walls were fairly thin and it would have been nice to have silencers on the doors. Also maybe notices to put on outside of the doors would be useful. Quite a number of times, people either came in or tried to enter our room while we were resting.
Review 38:It was warm, and being able to use a full kitchen was useful. It was in a fairly quiet area and it was run by friendly people.
Review 39:Room was quite dingy and all the beds were single beds - no double bed for a couple to sleep in. I thought I requested a family room?! The milk for the coffee tasted "off" even though they were in-date (Nov 2014). No shampoo provided, but luckily I brought my own.
Review 40:Good Wi-Fi on the whole. Plenty of room to park nearby. Plenty of room to hang the towels after a shower and nice soap. I would recommend this place to single friends rather than families.
Review 41:The email conformation said we could check in from 12.00 - 00.00. We arrived at 12.15 to find our room wasn't ready. Phoned reception and was told check in was from 14.00. So had to wait over an hour and a half to get into our room.
Review 42:Good internet
Review 43:No staff, could not get in to property: should have had an email that gave details but did not receive it. No reception, no-one to welcome you.
Review 44:Spacious rooms, located in town.
Review 45:It's called a guest house, but I would describe it as a hostel, more suitable for backpackers. Pillows & duvets awful, beds uncomfortable. I suppose you get what you pay for.
Review 46:Cheap & cheerful.
Review 47:Everything can be heard from room above.
Review 48:I like the fact that you have use of the kitchen facilities which is useful when you have small children with you.

Review 97:Great base for a short stay
Review 98:On street parking
Review 99:A good place with everything you need for a short stay. good shops and food outlets in the area.
Review 100:Kettle
Review 101:Good kitchen aeea available for use Good sized room
Review 102:Noise floor boards which creeked everytime people moved above us. Not the most comfortable of beds.
Review 103:Room had everything you needed.Compact sower room, towels, kettle, plenty of tea, coffee and mugs.
Review 104:I did not like the 10am room vacate, as i was catching my bus home to Inverness at 11.10am, which meant i had to wait at the bus stop for over an hour in the cold and rain, I asked the cleaner if i could hang about for an extra 15mts and explained why, and was told no, that guests were arriving at 11am, but i checked on the site and check in is at 12 noon. I know that they have to get the rooms cleaned for the next people, but i was not stopping the cleaning as i was all packed and ready to leave. What harm could 15mnts have done as i am 70 years old.
Review 105:I stayed in St Andrews Guest House roughly seven years ago, and when i stayed this time, i found it was refurbished which was good. I liked the self catering aspect of it, and the easy code door entry. You were left to do your own thing with no early morning cleaning if you fancied a bit of a lay in. All in all i enjoyed my stay.
Review 106:A towel rail or a hook in the bathroom would have been handy.
Review 107:Great little place to stay overnight, it had everything we needed. We arrived late, and although there is no reception, they had provided clear instruction on how to access your room.
Review 108:The room did its job, very dark though and the beds were terrible. 2 single beds which were squeaking as soon as you moved a foot or hand and the springs in the mattresses actually left imprints on the back.Very uncomfy. Can't say anything about staff or owners, because we didn't see anyone. In the bathroom sink were some left over shaved hairs from a previous guest. Would not come back.
Review 109:The location is good, not far from City centre, maybe 30 mins walk to harbour. Kitchen was useful. Quiet.
Review 110:The location was perfect and room was well cleaned. We arrived very late but, through a phone call to booking.com we got our room number and entry code; which made it possible for us to enter even though the staff wasn't there. The staff were very friendly to us. Thanks a lot Carmen and Andy. Keep up the good job.
Review 111:Shower didn't work which was a big disappointment. However when checking out at the hotel on the harbour side the manager/owner did apologise and refunded £10 for the inconvienience. We booked bikes if they were available and no notification of whether they were or not.
Review 112:Comfortable beds and spacious for family if four. Very warm and quiet location. £39 was a reasonable amount but shame no breakfast included
Review 113:The tea bags. No other negative comments.
Review 114:clean, warm and cosy. Very quiet in the morning and a very comfortable bed. Great value for money and I would return to this guest house again. The check in was also very easy and there was a lot of coffee for a good cuppa.
Review 115:Information booklet needs updating. Clear instructions for checking in required as no reception. There was a dining room & kitchen but we didn't know what we were permitted to use.
Review 116:Clean comfortable rooms with tea & coffee and TV. Quiet location.
Review 117:bedside lamp wasnt working. tea and coffee making facilities had not been changed in a while. Visit to the dining room and kitchen proved to be just 2 rooms with the facilities to cook something but nothing to eat. In all our stay there, we never met any staff.
Review 118:The room was clean, dry and warm. Beds were made every day and clean towels supplied.
Review 119:The chambermaid woke us up at 8.45 am on the Sunday. Need some do not disturb signs
Review 120:Had a shared kitchen area with fridge, freezer, cooker and microwave which was useful. Very close to the shopping centre and the train station.
Review 121:bed nearest toilet needs new mattress as springs sticking out into top of my backbut it will not stop me returning here again were in room 4
Review 122:room was very clean Annette the maid very helpful will be back
Review 123:Would have been great if the room had a mini fridge in it for drinks and a big mirror would have been handy.
Review 124:Great size 4 bed room with en suite shower room and shared full kitchen/dining room. Great value.
Review 125:I stayed 2 nights. I found parking a bit hard mid evening. there is a bingo hall behind it and though that gives no noise issue I had my window open( and I was at the back) parking was hard later or earlier no problem. the thing I found most odd was a marie celeste experience. in all the time I was there(there's about 7 rooms) I saw absolutely no-one and heard footsteps once. there's a kitchen and a dining room with internet access but I never saw them used. It was unclear if I could cook in them so that would be a useful question for future people staying if they want food. the kettle in the room was great
Review 126:it was clean. comfortable. very quiet the telephone number given accessed helpful directions from a very patient man when I had trouble finding it. the google map shows the wrong location on the street which looks like low cost flats the guest house is well turned out its obviously recently furnished and decorated
Review 127:bedside lamp bulb blew as soon as I put it on, no-one there to find out if I could get a spare bulb from anywhere. Minor issue, not really a problem
Review 128:Ease , out side parking, prompt assistance when my pin code didn't work, cleanliness, quietness good location for airport.
Review 129:I have still to check my account but am sure the correct amount will be debited in which case it won't be a problem.
Review 130:Very convenient for a night stop as we were travelling north. Price good and the arrangement satisfactory.
Review 131:There was no staff in the building to complain to about the level of noise that other residents were making in the middle of the night. Our children were terrified at the drunken state and level of noise coming from the people in the room next door and sounded like they were having a party in the lobby. Locking each other out of the room and practically trying to knock the door down to get back in. Our girls had an important dance competition the following morning and hardly got any sleep due to the noise. I have emailed to complain about this and heard nothing back.
Review 132:Easy to reeach, quiet, close to shops and beach. Staff very friendly andhelpful. Excellent breakfast! Close to many other places like Glasgowand Island of Aran to make it a central base. Thank you for a good stay.
