Reviews for St Ives Hotel
Review 1:The landlady was lovely and couldn't do enough for me. I was travelling with my dog Sam and it isn't always easy to find somewhere that will take dogs. This hotel is genuinely dog friendly and we had a great stay. Our room was lovely and the breakfast was wonderful. If you stay there you will have a terrific stay.
Review 2:The hotel is a little difficult to find, don't rely upon your GPS device.
Review 3:The host was very welcoming and friendly, offering advice on local eateries etc. I was leaving before breakfast was served, she made me a double bacon sandwich and a can of juice. Very thoughtful.
Review 4:hot water took about 6 minutes to reach the hand basin! shower fine squeaking closer on fire door outside our room
Review 5:spacious room fab view 2 comfortable arm chairs in room [often only 1 in other places!] Fairtrade coffee in the rooms - full marks for that! Delicious breakfast! Helpful advice re where to eat at night
Review 6:Decor, en suite and soft furnishings so dated and seems to reflects owners taste . Needs updating badly to compete with today's requirements for paying guests. May have been ok 10/20 years ago but no need now. Breakfast was ok but wasn't freshly made even although there were only two rooms booked that time. Told to leave room key when out but questions around security as keys visible to anyone else around Wouldn't recommend.
Review 7:Location overlooking bay and view from our room at the top of the house.
Review 8:with both of us being NON SMOKERS we both could smell smoke in our bedroom.I wood advise SMOKING OUTSIDE ONLY.OR NON SMOKERS WELCOLM. The BED OK BUT THE PILLOWS WERE QUITE HARD.
Review 9:the area was fantastic .
Review 10:Overall this hotel is drab and depressing, the beds were 5 out of 10 for comfort. I think the word Hotel is misused. B & B would be more suitable. We chose to eat there only once and the food was fair. I would not recommend this place, for these reasons
Review 11:good location very difficult to find,. lovely views.
Review 12:N/a both to dislike apart from not staying longer
Review 13:Room was perfect sea view spotless clean .lady who greeted us was very helpful. Breakfast was lovely will definitely return
Review 14:Nothing to dislike. Excellent stay, we will revisit.
Review 15:Friendly hostess, extremely helpful on local places to visit and eat. Breakfasts excellent and very filling. Bed was very comfortable, room decorated to a high standard.
Review 16:Room smelt of cigarette smoke and air freshener. Wifi wouldn't connect to many websites. Bed a bit too firm for me. Bathrooom very small.
Review 17:Decent location and good price.
Review 18:A bit cold, but it was summer and the weather was poor. If it had been that bad I'd have brought my blanket in from the car.
Review 19:The food was excellent and the staff very helpful and cheerful.
Review 20:good location for exploring the area. hotel was comfortable with friendly and knowledgable owners. we enjoyed our delicious. breakfasts whilst we were here.,
Review 21:The room seemed very small and cramped. Really needs updating big time! Think the en suite must of been a cupboard because it was minute. Im small and i felt claustrophobic in it, my partner is a big broad man and could barely fit in it! I didnt really have much for breakfast apart from toast but he did and wasn't impressed.
Review 22:The location was great if the weather had been better. Qwner was very nice and friendly.
Review 23:Hotel was a wee bit hard to find, street sign should be back further to give more notification of turn off.
Review 24:The owner was very good at providing information and advice for what we could do in this area. Location and views from Hotel were wonderful.
Review 25:The parking of the car, double parking tail to tail. Being asked to move car to let others in and out.
Review 26:We were close to all amenities. Lovely sea view.
Review 27:Lovely comfortable room with a sea view and walk-in shower. Friendly landlady, great breakfast and great sun lounge with lovely views and relaxing atmosphere.
Review 28:Nothing
Review 29:We all enjoyed the choice on the breakfast menu,,just sorry I didn't meet Matt. The Hotel is very well positioned for the town and for walks along the West Bay river front. I would certainly recommend it to family and friends.
Review 30:There was nothing to complain about.
Review 31:Our hostess was lovely and very helpful. The bedroom was nicely decorated and colour coordinated and the bed was comfortable. The room was very clean and there were great views from the public rooms of the sea and hills. Would stay here again if in Dunoon.
Review 32:Not a complaint but the beds in the twin room we had were rather narrow, but did not deter from a good nights sleep!
Review 33:Owners were very helfull and always willing to chat to guests. Breakfastwas excellant, location was also good.
Review 34:Pretty run down like many of the hotels in Dunoon. Dreadful thin towels which were faded to grey. Room was cold when we arrived.
Review 35:Easy to walk into town
Review 36:Advertised with WiFi but this is non existant. twice I have stayed there and is has never been available, when I asked this time the reply was "we dont have this fancy broadband you have in England" Should not advertise as "WiFi available"
Review 37:Price Location
Review 38:Not given clear directions on how to get to hotel Decor still stuck in a time warp Not good reception on wifi Nothing available in the evenings .... ie... bar not open Main lounge upstairs on first floor very dated
Review 39:We had to come home!
Review 40:Great traditional b&b with everything you need during your stay. Superb location and views. Very helpful and knowledgable staff.
Review 41:I had a room with a bathroom down some stairs and would have preferred and on suite facility but this did not detract from the welcome and the stunning views from my bedroom window, therefore I would return to the hotel.
Review 42:The owner was very welcoming and extremely pleasant. The food was excellent, could not fault the hotel's treatment of the guests.
Review 43:Decor outmoded - some upgrading needed Privacy felt intrusive at times Car parking was very difficult and easier to park outside hotel and walk Criticism was not accepted well

Review 47:The weather! But then you do not go to Scotland for the weather in the first place!
Review 48:It was a very pleasant stay. Nice breakfast with wonderful views. Close to the town, 5 minutes walk, without actually being either to see or hear it!!
Review 49:Parking, but Sandra the owner always sorted things out for all the guests so not really a negative.
Review 50:Very friendly and helpful proprietors nothing too much trouble. Excellent breakfast with a good choice. Everything about this hotel is very good and superb value for money. I would recommend it.
Review 51:The toilet and shower were in cupboards. No buggy ramp/wheelchair ramp to the garden is understandable but could be put in easily.

Review 53:Car parking is a bit of a squeeze.
Review 54:The property was in a beautiful location with views over the firth. The room was very clean with all the necessary facilities and the breakfast was very good. The proprietor could not have been more helpful. Tremendous value for money.
Review 55:Outside and inside of building needs a facelift and modernising. My room was not en suite but had private bathroom. this I did know about when booked but all rooms should be en suite for the price charged.

Review 57:To anyone planning a break in Dunoon Argyle and Bute. The St Ives Hotel is a MUST. I give it 5*. The Food was excellent. The Room was excellent. The Lady Owner was very helpful in directing you to all the must see sites. The Hotel is in a perfect position for the Town Centre. I cannot express enough what this Hotel is like, You Would Have To Try It Out For Yourselves to appreciate the standard. I highly recommend it.
Review 58:Not a hotel dislike as we knew when we booked but there are no dinner facilities after a set, short meal time. Having a dickie hip it was a bit of of a trudge to the nearest restaurants and bars; Ok if you are fit.
Review 59:The hoteliers were wonderful hosts who made us feel welcome. The rooms were spotlessly clean and the beds very comfortable. The breakfast was exceptional.
Review 60:An truly excellent B&B. We only stayed for one night but the owners were so friendly and welcoming. We they realised we had to leave early before breakfast they instantly offered a packed lunch in lieu which was delicious. We would defiantly stay again.
Review 61:Had issues with parking as there were few spaces. Lights in the bathroom were visible in the bedroom at night - had to choose to sleep with the lights on so that we could see to use the bathroom during the night. No window to the outside. Had trouble accessing Wifi.
