Reviews for Inch Hotel
Review 1:As we knew from previous reviews the rooms are very dated and need to be modernised to make this hotel 10/10
Review 2:Great location, wonderful staff, excellent food. The hotel resturant for an evening meal is also very good!
Review 3:The beautiful view over Loch Ness was enchanting. The staff were the perfect mix of friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The restaurant food was traditional Scottish fayre cooked magnificently!
Review 4:Our family room was large, but could have been in better condition. i.e. wall paper was lifting from the walls, children's beds were springy.
Review 5:Great location overlooking the loch. Common areas were warm and intimate. Breakfast and service were good.
Review 6:Expensive, particularly in the restaurant where the quality of the food didn't match the price.
Review 7:Excellent location with views to Loch Ness and easy access to Fort Augustus and other scenic attractions. Comfortable room and very friendly staff.
Review 8:Would have loved a bath (family room) and the rooms need a bit of modernisation but perfectly okay and very clean.
Review 9:Lovely staff couldn't have been more helpful or welcoming. Delicious dinner - bit confusing as decor old and tired in rooms but dining room lovely and food excellent. Lovely fire in the other room for sitting and relaxing with a drink. Awesome views of Loch Ness.
Review 10:The interior could do with a bit of a lift - slightly shabby grandeur. But it didn't detract from our stay at all.
Review 11:The hotel is a beautiful old building in a gorgeous position overlooking Loch Ness. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming - we can't rate them highly enough.
Review 12:Nothing.
Review 13:The location of the hotel was great only a short walk from fort Augustus. The staff where great and very helpful. The food in the restaurant was great just what you needed after a day's hiking.
Review 14:Nothing!
Review 15:We liked the cozy lounge area where some toys and books were available for kids as well. Food was excellent and staffs were all very kind. Family room was spacy and clean.
Review 16:The restaurant was over priced for what you got. The worst steak I have ever had. Burnt potatoes on both nights and tiny children's portions. Such a shame as it is a great hotel. Breakfast was good and starters good.
Review 17:The location and the rooms.
Review 18:It would have been nice to have been able to sit in my pyjamas and order some plain room service food such as sandwiches and chips and some drinks from the bar brought to the room but as this is only a small hotel I accept this type of service is not available.
Review 19:Stayed over after competing in the first day of the Rat Race Coast to Coast Challenger race and found the hotel warm clean and the staff very friendly and relaxed about our two springers. They set a table for us to eat in the bar with the dogs. We had not given them any notice in advance about needing to leave at the crack of dawn but they adapted to provide breakfasts for all competitors staying there.
Review 20:I absolutely loved this hotel! It’s quite charming and quintessentially Scottish. The grounds and surrounding location are beautiful, breakfast was delicious and the hotel manager and staff are as friendly as can be! One thing to be aware of, the beds are hard and the hot water does not come on until 7 am; I feel this just adds to the charm. If you are going to the Highlands, I highly recommend the Inch.
Review 21:Shame about the midgies - would have liked to be able to sit outside and enjoy the view but there's not much anyone could do about that.
Review 22:Lovely, friendly relaxed atmosphere with very helpful staff. The views from the lounge are stunning! Hotel itself is a lovely old building with lots of character - don't expect a mass produced chain hotel with everything the same as everywhere else. Breakfast was excellent and we had one dinner which was pricey but excellent quality and extremely filling.
Review 23:The bar was poorly stocked with virtually no selection of beers or ale. The shower wasn't the best either, definitely could do with something with power, as it was like getting under watering can with poor flow
Review 24:The location, the welcoming staff, the warmth and venue of the hotel. Amazing place to stay
Review 25:Facility need some repairs - e.g. Windows, but not influence the stay.
Review 26:Reception staff was very kind and helpful. The location with partly view on the lake is beautiful. Nice breakfast (Restaurant) room.
Review 27:The pic on Booking.com appears to show the hotel on the shore of the Loch but it is actually further away.
Review 28:Meals great, location great, staff helpful and curtious.
Review 29:Rude service. Told to go get soup at the gas station because kitchen had just closed even though chef was still there and there were guests eating in the dining room....
Review 30:One of those mornings at breakfast. seeming unfamiliarity with table numbers led to repeated confusion with our order. Breakfast took a long, long time. This was followed by delivery to us of somebody else's order.
Review 31:Staff and management excellent
Review 32:Amazing location with views over Loch Ness. Very welcoming & friendly staff. Food was exceptionally good. Warm atmosphere & we all really enjoyed our stay.
Review 33:We realised our mattress was really old, but when we let them know there were no other rooms left, so we had to turn it over. However, the manager gave us a discount and apologised in the morning, since apparently nobody had complained before. My parents mattress was perfect on te other hand.
Review 34:The location os just incredible and so is the hotel and the staff and the breakfast
Review 35:stairs and we only had 2 nights would have loved to stay 3
Review 36:Just out of town, close to Loch Ness, and nice food, love the idea they have to put you in a sitting room before dinner and serve you drinks while you talk around the open fire
Review 37:Not a bad experience but we have stayed in much nicer for a less money. The whole place needs refurbished. The bedroom lacks any planning. No plug socket near a mirror. wardrobe door difficult to access because of its 'jammed up against the wall owing to a badly placed radiator and a bedside cabinet too close to it. Shelf where hospitality tray sat was not attached to the anything so was dangerous. I felt the entrance to it could be a bit more inviting.
Review 38:The view
Review 39:Firstly drove up to the hotel the receptionist came straight out to help us in with our bags. The room she showed us to was incredible we had the suite room which we were not expecting. The room was very clean and comfortable. was excellent value for money will be staying here again! thinking new year as very good deals
Review 40:We particularly liked the breakfast. The hotel has a cozy relaxed atmosphere with comfortable common areas and next to foot paths for walking/cycling in nearby woods. Fast internet connection was excellent.
Review 41:If you have large heavy suitcases, opt for rooms on lower floors as there is no elevator. However, the upstairs rooms offer a stunning view of Loch Ness.
Review 42:It was more like a home stay atmosphere from the lovely friendly way we were treated by the staff, good conversation and tips about where to eat in the village etc. Scottish hospitality at its best.
Review 43:Hard worn out mattress, tired decor, windows nailed shut, wifi only worked until 10.30pm, breakfast choice poor - was served raw boiled eggs! All receptionist said was "sorry to hear that, here's your bill". £125 for bed and breakfast is too much when neither bed nor breakfast was very good.
Review 44:Wifi could have better coverage, the water in the shower was a bit tricky to adjust
Review 45:Just about everything! The hotel itself, decoration, staff was efficient and friendly, advised wisely always. The room is big and comfortable, the views from the room's window was breathtaking. Breakfast was very good and included, highly recommend eating at the hotel restaurant
Review 46:The rooms appeared quite run down and old. The hotel wants to achieve a rustic old lodge feel however, it actually comes across as just a run down hotel. The old lodge feel they're going for can still be accomplished with newer beds and improved furniture. With the accommodations provided, the price is difficult to justify.
Review 47:the location was beautiful, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was tasty
Review 48:we booked 3 rooms. 2 rooms were not as expected and could have been better.my friends didn't enjoy the view too. Dinner option was not provided
Review 49:Location. The lounge with the fire place. Both absolutely stunning. They have a fantastic whisky collection
Review 50:The receptionist was unfriendly and the room with a very small bathroom , not properly cleaned, did not respond to the description of "superior room
Review 51:Location
Review 52:Evryting exelent
Review 53:View on lochbes, very nice staff and clean bedroom :) after breakfast we asking where we can go and there show a hilands wildlife park and show a road. Thank you very much for nice travel and nice night
Review 54:Very dated, run on the cheap and though not expensive, overpriced by about 30%. Decor horrible, stained carpets, plastic ducting all over walls to hide wires, fan in bathroom was noisy, shower stall was tiny, the place is just done lazy and cheap. To sum up the hotel, it had a lcd clock / telephone combo from the 80s in the room that wasn't plugged in. Not saying that that was an issue but just that that kind of sums up the place. Oh and the wifi was running at what seemed like 80s speed.
Review 55:Location, amazing, building is great, quiet, nice enough staff.
Review 56:quite expensive for average and small rooms most expensive of our trip and not in the top five of other places we stayed for considerably less.
Review 57:public areas, staff lovely
Review 58:The evening meal was very good and the waiting staff and reception were excellent. Loved the individually designed rooms and comfortable beds. Lovely lounge with roaring log fire.
Review 59:Lovely historic hotel in amazing setting. Friendly, helpful staff and excellent cuisine.Wonderful Highland atmosphere. Wonderful forest walks nearby
Review 60:We stayed here for our honeymoon. Jane and her staff provided excellent service throughout. Food also to a high standard. Would be very happy to stay here again.
Review 61:Shower curtain was put up with cable ties and our room was not serviced.
Review 62:We liked the traditional setting of the hotel. It had an old fashioned but welcoming feel. The staff was very friendly.
Review 63:My only thing I would say that was negative is the wallpaper and carpet looked well used and could use fixing, but the place is 150 years old so what do you expect.
Review 64:The staff went above and beyond with friendliness and helpfulness. The breakfast was wonderful and had lots of choices. The rooms were spacious and had plenty of room for all of us. The bar was cozy and the beverages there was a large varied selection to choose from. The view couldn't be beat. Best family holiday we have had.
Review 65:The staff could not have been more delightful!!! Wonderful stay. This inn which is old hunting lodge is situated in lovely countryside walking distance to quaint town of ft Augustus. I can't say enough about the staff...wonderful!
Review 66:We enjoyed our stay but the hotel is a little tired. The heater had fallen off the wall and didn't work in our room (the staff did provide us with a stand alone heater on request) but there are many, many little things in the hotel that, although it is comfortable and we would stay again, look very tired and in need of refurbishment. Also, the menu could use another vegetarian option and the dining room which is open to external guests could do with some additional decoration to take away the 'cold' cafeteria feel. Some of the breakfast options on the buffet had run out on the second morning and were not replaced so we were just confronted with empty platters. For the price, a little more effort should be made.
Review 67:The staff were lovely, the place was comfortable, had character and was in a great location.
Review 68:I booked this hotel thinking that as pictured on the website there would've Scotland's signature " hairy coo". The pictures shows multiple cows in the pasture on site. We arrived and not only I cows but it was clear by the condition of the pasture none had been there For a long time. The hotel is a bit shabby with the flattest pillows ever.. not comfortable.
Review 69:The hotel staff are fabulous but the hotel could use a touch up, a bit shabby. Great customer service.
Review 70:We would love to have been provided with : towel racks or railings, a place for toiletries, luggage stands for 2 people and the use of laundry facilities.
Review 71:We loved: the location with its dreamy views of Lock Ness, the Highlands, the Highland cattle in the field directly in front of the hotel, the surrounding woodlands, the ambiance of an historic building and the energy and charm of the young European staff whose service was impeccable.
Review 72:Absolutely nothing.
Review 73:Very friendly and helpful staff. Beds were comfortable and rooms spacious. Great view of the Loch and close access to some great walking trails. The field with the Highland Cows right across the road was a hidden bonus for the kids. I would definitely stay here again.
Review 74:Telephoned earlier in the day to say we would be arriving after 9pm but would require dinner - informed that dinner was served until 9.30 so not to worry. Checking in at 9.05pm we were asked who told us that because it was not the case but he would see what he could do!! we enjoyed a pleasant dinner. When reading the hotel guest guide it DID state dinner until 9.30 - I suggest staff training should include waiting staff are familiar with information guests are given.
Review 75:Beautiful themed hunting lodge. Pleasant environment. The most comfortable hotel bed we have experienced.
Review 76:The staff were very good and helpful, nice to have a hotel that is pet friendly on all aspects, food was very good, home cooked, The location is very good for travelling around and quite only 10 minutes walk into Fort Augustus on a quite back road.
Review 77:Not a complaint at all, but the food portions were a good (large) size. We're not particularly big eaters, so maybe offering a smaller portion option would cater for smaller eaters?
Review 78:Wow, what a fabulous location! We paid extra for Loch views and it was well worth it. The staff were great, as was the food. Ah yes, the food. I had the Game pie one evening. It was perfect and I would go so far to say it was the best pie I've ever had. The breakfasts were superb too and quite happy to prepare food "off the menu". Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel has character by the bucket loads and we will be back for more in the future. Highly recommended.
Review 79:Windows are in need of some serious repair.....also our curtain was hanging by a string!
Review 80:It was really warm and comfortable staff are very pleasant and friendly
Review 81:Bed not very comfortable Had to wait to be seated for breakfast Seemed under staffed
Review 82:Proximity to the town Free breakfast where you could ask for vegetarian but that should have been on the menu
Review 83:Our room was large, and comfortable, so was the bed. Very friendly, helpful staff with dinner, breakfast and a bar. Awesome food. This was our favorite place to stay while we were in Scotland.
Review 84:The staff were brilliant, made us feel very welcome, and this seemed very genuine. The location and the loch view room was perfect, with picturesque views out over Loch Noss and a field full of highland cows.
Review 85:The Hotel is tired in need of a slight re- furbishment. bathrooms were cramped poorly designed.Booke Sunday evening meal on the Thursday we arrived on Managers recommendation re sunday roast Dining room had run out 19-45 pm and the alternative meal supplied was poor
Review 86:staff were obliging and helpfull
Review 87:The only thing that could be optimized is the bathroom - it's a bit cold in there (due to the old building), and it uses the typical electrical water heating, that only allows for a marginal water flow during showers.
Review 88:The hotel has atmosphere in every "inch" of the house. The stuff was very helpful, even our extremely late arrival was no issue. Breakfast is delightful and plenty, the restaurant is also pretty good.
Review 89:our room was a old fashioned and tired and the bed very soft.
Review 90:the whole atmosphere was very pleasant from the moment we arrived. The staff were fantastic and made our short stay really enjoyable. The food was excellent and we would recommend the steak and the salmon risotto. Our dog agrees with all the above !
Review 91:Fabulous location with breathtaking views of Loch Ness and the beautiful highland cows grazing in the field below the Hotel. The staff were wonderful, very friendly and efficient, nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant in the Hotel served excellent food and the restaurant took full advantage of the view of the Loch. A fabulous place to stay, highly recommended. You will not find any better on the Loch than this beautiful and historic old hunting lodge/hotel.
Review 92:The bed was very uncomfortable (Etive room) seemed like one side of it had slats missing and it was very rickety
Review 93:The restaurant was very good and we liked the system of relaxing in the lounge with a drink before being taken through to the restaurant to have the meal served right away.
Review 94:Nothing bad at all. In fact, we stayed longer than we planned.
Review 95:Great views of Loch Ness from the super-comfy living room (with fireplace!) of the former hunting lodge. Food cooked by the chef/co-owner was delicious and ample. Warm hospitality capped by a late-night dram.
Review 96:Waited for nearly 40 minutes for breakfast and told it was because there was a problem with the till. Utterly irrelevant. Food offering in general generous but not high quality
Review 97:Comfortable bed and lovely view. Staff were helpful.
Review 98:The hot water heater for the shower wasn't working properly and there was no curtain for the large window that looked out over the parking lot. Also, it was difficult to lock the door.
Review 99:Location and food.
Review 100:We spent 1 night and everything was nice. Hotel is located not far from the town and can be easily reached by car. The dinner at the restaurant was good, but overpriced
Review 101:Nothing to dislike!
Review 102:Great 'home from home' atmosphere. Nothing was too much trouble. Great food. Great vista.Great staff. Perfect week with perfect weather too boot!
Review 103:- Staff extreamly friendly - Food at the restaurant amazing! Big portion sizes, and very good qualaty food - Stunning viws from the lounge, where a nice wood fire burns We had a perfect stay! Thx so much again.
Review 104:The carpet smells and i paid for the lake view, but in front of the window, they put the tv, so we didnt really get the view.
Review 105:Big room and the breakfast is great. The location is very beautiful infront of loch ness.
Review 106:Rooms were drab and badly in need of redecoration. Battleship grey gloss paint on doors and beige painted wood chip paper on walls was depressing.
Review 107:The location and view was excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 108:Booked the main meal on our first night there. Venison casserole, which could of been anything and Blacked Salmon which was very salty and overcooked. £40 for both. Not very good and not value for money. Only gripe of an otherwise brilliant stay
Review 109:Location, friendliness, bedroom, view from room over Loch Ness, 15 minute stroll via wooded back track avoiding main road to village. Everything was just what we wanted.
Review 110:Dining experience lacked atmosphere - they kept the lights on full beam, dimming them down would create some ambience. Shower on the top floor was a little weak.
Review 111:Room was spacious and comfortable. Very strong wifi throughout. Friendly staff and good food. Great location for exploring Loch Ness, and exceptional value for money on the price.
Review 112:At breakfast there was at least 10 min gap between me receiving my breakfast and my partner receiving his. It was slow both mornings we were there too.
Review 113:Very friendly staff. The bed was very comfortable and cosy. The views were beautiful. Evening meal was delicious.
Review 114:The room was a little run down and our cooked breakfast was extremely greasy.
Review 115:Great location and lovely views of Loch Ness. The staff were very friendly and our evening meal was excellent. We particularly enjoyed having a drink by the log fire in the afternoon.
Review 116:Staff had little or no idea about interpersonal skills. They knew little about the products they had to offer the guest. Nothing was quite as shown on the menu and no explanation could be offered when asked. Spoiled our trip
Review 117:Great location
Review 118:The hotel is set in a excellent location over looking the loch. We stayed I. The loch room which was really lovely. The staff were all so friendly and helpful
Review 119:Everything, the welcome by Jane was very warm and friendly, the relaxed and homely atmosphere was just lovely amongst the grandeur of the lodge and surroundings. Our food was fantastic, both at dinner and at breakfast. Our room was warm and beautifully clean, with everything we needed. I would 100% stay again and would go out of my way to travel the 600 miles from home necessary to do so.
Review 120:Where do you start when you have had such a great weekend!! John and Janet were brilliant hosts couldn't do enough for us all weekend and nothing was to much trouble for them. The Hotel is situated in a stunning spot overlooking Loch Ness and a lovely 10 min walk into the village which was a welcome after a great breakfast. Stayed in the Bridal Suite overlooking the loch fantastic room with a large 3 seater sofa which was surprisingly very warm considering it was so large. Thanks John and Janet will definitely be back!!
Review 121:Full breakfast was first class, would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a traditional scottish hotel with a log fire.there is a waterfall right behind the hotel which looked great
Review 122:I don't want to say anything, but if i was nit picking i would say squeaky floor boards in one area, but due to the age of the building it added to the experience :)
Review 123:From the moment we arrived the service was top notch nothing was too much trouble. The decor is really nice and the open log fire adds a great touch. We booked via booking.com and had a great deal. The food was out of this world and the presentation was outstanding. The room itself was very comfortable with a huge wardrobe (perfect for the missus) lol We where made to feel right at home every step of the way a perfect stay with perfect hosts. Jayne & John are a credit to the company
Review 124:The hairdryer.... but when isn't a hotel hairdryer a bit dodgy. Serves me right for not packing my own.
Review 125:The Inch Hotel was a stunning stately building with beautiful spacious and gorgeously decorated rooms. The views to Loch Ness were great and the breakfast was incredible. Value for money +. Best of all were the hosts. Warm, welcoming, happy, funny and genuinely interested in their guests.
Review 126:the staff was most friendly and helpful with all our inquiries! Many thanks to Nuno who made sure that we didn´t starve when everything was closed! Perfect location, wonderful breakfast and Christmas dinner and one of the best rooms with view at the lake...All people working there are Professionals and know what this industry is about!!!!Definitely will come back again!!
Review 127:Only had late (8pm) dinner slot left for us due to miscommunication between staff. We had confirmed the meal at 5.30. Were offered room service but already too late. We already had crackers and cheese in our room. Re other aspects - this hotel is not as good value as other places we stayed on our trip- Moffat, Dornoch, Ullapool all better for room comfort and breakfast.
Review 128:Location and snug bar.
