Reviews for Market Cross Guest House
Review 1:The weather could have been better. English Heritage should distribute discount entry vouchers to all B&B's as we declined their entry fee for Holy Island. Apart from that loved everything.
Review 2:All rooms were very well appointed and warm, cleanliness impeccable. Host were lovely and friendly, nothing to much trouble. Ask and it will be sorted. 10/10
Review 3:The weather. But made the best if it as you would expect. Lovely area.
Review 4:Everything. Rooms very comfirtable. Breakfast was excellent. Rooms lovely and warm considering its Winter.
Review 5:Nothing to dislike!
Review 6:Quality service and accommodation from arrival to departure, with attention to detail in every aspect. Food delicious. A delightful stay and would recommend without hesitation.
Review 7:The whole experience was fantastic. The room was so comfortable and the facilities excellent too. The hosts were very friendly and had put a great deal of thought into providing first class accommodation. We will be back!
Review 8:All possible needs had been anticipated. Warmth and sincerity of the welcome and the way we were cared for. In addition the breakfasts and evening meals offered a variety of choice and were well cooked and beautifully presented. Thank you Amanda and Steve
Review 9:Well situated for centre of Belford. Very warm welcome from hosts. Home made cake offered on arrival. Help yourself to local Mead. Excellent breakfast delicious home made flap jacks in room. Very quiet (at back of building). Very comfortable bed
Review 10:not anything.
Review 11:This is the best B&B we've ever stayed in. The owners made us very at home, the room was lovely and very well equipped, and the food wonderful (all home cooked and lots of special home made treats). A perfect stay in a beautiful area.
Review 12:Best B&B we have ever stayed at! Friendly reception, great room, excellent service and many additional benefits provided beyond our expectations, including full run down on local restaurant qualities. We would recommend anyone to stay here!
Review 13:Very high standard of accommodation. Everything was extremely clean. There was a great choice at breakfast and the quality of the breakfasts was the best I have ever had. Fantastic home jams and marmalades for toast in the morning
Review 14:Nothing
Review 15:Very friendly hosts. Gave advice on places to go. Made a cake for my busbands 50th birthday, gave him a card and a little gift. The food was lovely, excellent cake, delicious freshly cooked breakfasts and flapjacks in the room. Felt like visiting a friends home rather than guest house. Room was beautiful and set in a lovely peaceful village. Very friendly. Location ideal for visiting other areas.
Review 16:It is a pity dinner isn't served at weekends, though this is understandable. The village did not have many places to eat and so we needed to travel further afield.
Review 17:We had a very friendly welcome by the owners. Rooms were very comfortable - particularly the beds, which is so important - and everything we needed was there. The owners' local knowledge was invaluable and spot-on. Breakfast was delicious.
Review 18:Extremely comfortable room with many thoughtful touches. A warm welcome and a very tasty breakfast, especially the homemade items such as jams and granola which were delicious.
Review 19:Very friendly welcome, excellent service and lovely property in good location. Amanda & Steve are so helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Amazing attention to detail in all aspects (especially the Nespresso machine!) and wonderful breakfasts too. Very well done.
Review 20:Extremely friendly accommodating and helpful couple, and the facilities could not be faulted.Overall an ideal location for access to the visiting and sightseeing of beautiful rural historical Northumberland.
Review 21:Shower had low pressure, but the quality of everything else made up for it.
Review 22:Location was lovely, amazing gardens and room was wonderful. Friendliest welcome I have had in a B&B before, the food was absolutely amazing, down to the home made flapjack in the room.
Review 23:The host were amazing. Lovely place to stay as it is a quick drive to Lindisfarne. They have a very nice garden at the back. Tidy room. The food was great...We were quite impressed with all the homemade products such as granula, different jams etc. Highly recommended!
Review 24:Lovely B&B the owners obviously try very hard to please their guests - and succeed. The bed was comfy and the provision of toiletries, coffee maker, robes, chillers for milk etc, corkscrew, flannels and numerous other goodies makes this an outstanding experience. The breakfast was excellent and varied. It ranks as one of the best B&B's we've stayed at.
Review 25:The rooms were lovely and equipped with everything you could possibly want or need. Even coffee machines in the bedrooms and Mead or Sherry on the landing Excellant pre booked dinner. Lots of delicious homemade fare at all meals. Probably the best B&B ever.
Review 26:We liked everything , it was faultless. Clean and comfortable room, excellent food and friendly and accommodating hosts. The best b&b we have ever stayed in.
Review 27:Friendly owners, spacious room, lovely views, good breakfast, personal touches. Good WiFi, fresh milk and personal touches such as home made cake, jam, etc.
Review 28:Not applicable
Review 29:Everything about the place and the service we received was excellent. The room was very comfortable indeed and extremely clean. I have never been away even in large hotels where the breakfast was so interesting, delicious and different. The welcome we received was most warm and friendly. My husband even had a birthday card and chocolate waiting for him. Everything we needed or wanted was made available. I id not have opportunity to make use of the beautiful garden - just one reason to go again
Review 30:Everything - the welcome, the room, the little extra touches, the food ...... Steve and Amanda made our stay a special one. The area is wonderful too .. What more could we want?!
Review 31:Amanda & Steve are a lovely coUpleadon and make you feel very welcome,Amandas home made food is delicious,a variety of options to choose from for breakfast. Complimentary lindifarne mead and sherry. We stayed in the green room, it was very clean, cosy and had alk the amenities that you need. The guest house is close to lindisfarne, Seahouses and bambarugh castle. There's a local bus service and a taxi service if you want to dine out, we dined at the white swan, the food is excellent and the staff are very helpful and friendly, taxi cost is around £10 from there to the market cross, gordan the taxi driver is a lovely friendly chatty guy. We spent our 1st wedding anniversary there, Amanda and Steve made it special and memorable one for us, thanks to them for the use of thier champagne cooler and plastic glasses so we could have crack. Open our bubbly on holy island lindifarne beach. Overall a excellent place to stay :) <3 xxx
Review 32:Nothing !!
Review 33:Steve and Amanda are fab hosts. Lovely ambience to the whole place. Rooms excellent standard, well equipped and luxurious. Little added extras made the stay great.
Review 34:Immaculately clean, excellent breakfast and baking treats in room, location great for exploring beautiful scenery of Northumberland, very friendly helpful hosts, comfy and peaceful room.
Review 35:We had never stayed in Northumberland. After reading some excellent reviews on the Market Cross, I booked a room for a couple of nights. We were totally delighted. This facility has to be ranked in the top echelon of B&B’s. The room was large and extremely clean. Breakfasts were great and there is a fine pub just across the street. Market Cross is located in an ideal spot for easy day trips to the Holy Island and many beautiful historic castles, like Alnwick and Bamburgh. The hosts were extremely helpful and very knowledgeable about the area.
Review 36:Wifi was problematic but didn't matter enough to us to get owners to sort out- we were rather short of time!
Review 37:Tea and cake on arrival was a nice touch. Lots of homemade bits at breakfast and an obvious attention to detail throughout. Bed was very comfortable too!
Review 38:The owners put little touches in our room knowing it was our first wedding anniversary like hand made chocolates and a card.. So lovely! The breakfast was seriously yummy, the bed awesomely comfortable.. couldnt recommend it more highly! :)
Review 39:The rooms were beautiful, comfortable and of a very high standard. The hosts were welcoming, helpful and friendly. All the little extra touches made this a memorable stay.
Review 40:I dont have any negative to say - try this place. You wont be disappionted. The owners take a pride in their business and work hard to make sure you have an enjoyable stay
Review 41:The welcome given by the hosts, they offered us a piece of homemade cake and a cup of tea on arrival, these little touches make all the difference like the complimentary Sherry and the Lindisfarne Mead in the evening, as well as the cleanliness of the bedrooms. An ideal base for exploring the Northumbrian Coast such places as Amble, Warkworth, Alnmouth, Craster, Bamborough and Seahouses where you can take a boat to the Farne Islands. Also a good base for visiting the City of Newcastle upon Tyne and Edinburgh. I would definitely recommend taking your evening meal at the Guest House. We ordered our three course meal in advance of our stay; there was a set menu choice from several different menus. We had evening mean on both nights of our stay and were given the five star treatment; Amanda, the host, is a trained chef. It was fine dining at its best – like the sort the thing you would see on Master Chef! or the finest restaurant, but at a fraction of the price – try it and see you won’t be disappointed ! There is the option to purchase your own wine from the local shop in the village to have with your meal. There are also a couple of nice pubs in the village if you fancy a night cap!
Review 42:Only issue for some is on street parking but the village is quiet so not too terrible
Review 43:Fun to have a range of rooms to use (and a garden when warmer) with space to sit in your room too. Enjoyed the Nespresso machine and sweet treats and would take up the meal option another time as this looked fab too! Amanda is an excellent cook and clearly loves feeding people!! Really reasonable rate and perfectly placed to explore the beautiful NE coast and environs... basically its a fabulous find!
Review 44:Lovely b and b. Very clean and comfortable. Homemade flapjacks In room and can help yourself to sherry. Lovely owners, great breakfast, excellent bathroom equipped with everything you need and more! Wonderful weekend. Highly recommended
Review 45:There was nothing to find fault with. The hosts were friendly & hospitable, very helpful & knowlegable about the area. There was a excellent breakfast menu & everything was cooked to perfection.
Review 46:Warm welcome, spotless clean room, wonderful coffee, tasty home made biscuits followed by a fine full English breakfast to start the day. On business however I will be coming back with the Family in the near future for a few nights as it is a lovely area and a great find.
Review 47:Very good quality throughout from the room to the breakfast with lots of extra thoughtful touches eg coffee maker and cooler fridge in room, homemade cake and flapjacks complimentary, range of good quality toiletries, bed linen etc Breakfast - v good selection and beautifully cooked
Review 48:Friendly informative hosts who provided excellent service and lovely food. Very comfortable room with a lovely sitting area. Would love to return again
Review 49:Nothing. We drove past a few times in the dark so perhaps a light under the sign, but otherwise can't fault it.
Review 50:The level of comfort was superb, really deserves its' 5 star rating. The little extras (mead/sherry and homemade cakes) also went down really well. Lots of interesting local info to browse and breakfast was excellent. Cannot fault this place. Only a sea view could improve it - but the location only heightened the thrill of driving past Budle Bay towards Bamburgh Castle. We'll be back. (Hopefully, without the children and for longer! - but even one night felt like a real break, everything was so good.) Many thanks.
Review 51:We stayed there at the end of October. The couple running the Guest House are very friendly and the Breakfasts are wonderful. I have stayed in many places over the years but this was best. I am looking forward to going back there in the new year.
Review 52:A lovely quiet place, just what we wanted. The guest house host were warm and were discreet and not overpowering,We will definitely recommend to our friends.
Review 53:Having to leave
Review 54:From arriving and being greeted at the door out stay was everything and more that was expected from 5 star accommodation. Excellent !
Review 55:From our arrival the hosts were kind and friendly but non invasive. We had a beautiful room (although the entire house was gorgeous) which was furnished to a high standard whilst still maintaining a cosy, homely feel. There we're lots of personal touches such as complementary homemade flapjack and local mead. Breakfast was quite simply the best we've had at any hotel or b&b! Blueberry pancakes and homemade granola, or homemade baked beans with pancetta and poached eggs...delicious! We will definitely return!
Review 56:Felt just a little expensive .
Review 57:Great position and ideal location for us, and what we wanted to do . Staff very helpful and offered suggestions about places to visit .
Review 58:Only a short one night stop over, would have liked to stay longer!
Review 59:Very nice people very nice room and very comfortable bed, what more could you ask for! We will use it again if we are in the area.
Review 60:Nothing!!
Review 61:Wonderful welcome from our hosts. Bedrooms were outstanding with attention to detail. Beds were extremely comfortable which is so important. Breakfast was wonderful - such choice. I highly recommend this establishment.
Review 62:Because of commitments, we were only able to stay for the one night!
Review 63:Both Steve & Alison were the most attentive hosts, nothing was too much trouble. The room was beautifully decorated and furnished with all the little extra touches you could wish for on a stay away from home. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend a stay there, it's so central for both Lindisfarne and Bamburgh Castle etc.
Review 64:This guest house is truly home from home. Stephen and Amanda make you feel very welcome the minute you step through the front door.Attention to detail is second to none.Very relaxing atmosphere.Great choice of breakfasts and beautifully cooked (everything homemade). Belford is a great place to explore the Lindisfarne area.Highly recommended.
Review 65:Nothing of note.
Review 66:Lovely guest house, decorated immaculately in excellent taste. The room and en-suite bathroom were of a good size and very well appointed with an excellent range of toiletries, big fluffy towels and bathrobes. The room had its own Nespresso machine supplied with my favourite coffee pods. The couple who run the guest house were very friendly and helpful. This was not the cheapest B&B I've stayed in but you get what you pay for. Good location - very handy for Bamburgh, Holy Island etc. and a good range of pubs and restaurants in the area.
Review 67:Only proviso is that we'd have liked a bit more flexibility over breakfast times, especially on Sunday.
Review 68:Extremely comfortable room in village location close to Holy Island and fantastic beaches. Hosts attentive and welcoming. Lots of extras. Delicious breakfast with great choice.
Review 69:Owners friendly & helpful. Well cooked food & lovely homemade jams & marmalades. All furnishing were of the best quality & no corners cut. Mattresses firm & comfortable. A well presented Bed & breakfast hotel.
Review 70:Lovely hosts, very helpful and friendly. Comfortable rooms and facilities. Excellent breakfast (daughter had homemade baked beans on toast and she said it was the best breakfast she had ever had!)
Review 71:Everything you could need and things they had thought of that you didn't know you needed. From home cooked treats and coffee machine in the room, to wonderful cooked breakfast and home made preserves. All that and the coast on your doorstep. Would definately stay here again.
Review 72:very good position for exploring parts of Northumberland and very knowedgeable hosts as regarding where to visit and eat in the local area. exellent accommodation with very good breakfasts. would thoroughly recommend this guest house to anyone.
Review 73:You will struggle to find a better-appointed guest house anywhere than The Market Cross Belford, this is B&B accommodation par excellence. The owners know their stuff and have really got it right. Within this spotless property, decorated with impeccable taste, there are many welcome delights for the weary traveller to enjoy, including home-made cakes, preserves, bread and cereals along with decanters of nightcap. The friendly, approachable owners are on hand to provide advice and obviously maintain a keen eye for detail - which guest for example would expect to find a shoe cleaning kit in their room, or the opportunity to avail themselves of a range of bathroom items overlooked during the packing process before leaving home? Congratulations Steven & Amanda, we’ll be back !
Review 74:Steve and Amanda made us feel extremely welcome and at home the moment we opened their front door. We were shown to our delightful, large room with an attractive sitting area, beautifully decorated and with every need taken into consideration and enjoyed some home made cake. We slept very soundly during our four night stay in bedding of the highest quality and in probably one of the most comfortable beds in the country! A wide cooked menu was available for the delicious breakfasts with many other home made goodies such as muesli, yogurt and jams. Steve and Amanda look after their guests, work to the highest standards and deserve the highest praise. Market Cross is one of the best guest houses in which we have stayed and we cannot recommend the venue highly enough.
Review 75:When the duvet was too hot they found a lighter one. The pieces of flapjack in the room were delicious. The TV had a very large screen. The proprietor was so approachable.
Review 76:There was absolutely nothing we did not like.
Review 77:Everything was just perfect: breakfast, room, coffee making facilities, sweets,... Steve and Amanda were wonderful hosts with an eye for the detail.
Review 78:nothing to dislike except, perhaps, a shower which took its time to heat - a minor quibble in a mini heat-wave in August.
Review 79:cheerful, pleasant welcome well furnished/equipped room excellent breakfast helpful owners easy parking access to room throughout the day
Review 80:Duvet was far too thick for the summer. Because we had to shut the shutters to keep out the light the bedroom was too hot. (It was a heatwave)
Review 81:Breakfast was excellent, very friendly and helpful couple and lovely room and house
Review 82:The owners were friendly, helpful and professional. Our stay could not have been better. The breakfasts varied and yummy. Would certainly go again and recommend to anrone.
Review 83:Nothing!
Review 84:Friendly and welcoming owners. Lovely room with lots of extras including Lindisfarne Mead! Wide choice of breakfast with lots of unusual homemade jams and marmalade. Nothing was too much trouble. Would be a great base for exploring Northumberland and the Borders. Would recommend without hesitation.
Review 85:Small fridge in bedroom, served no purpose as didn't chill. The other small fridge at the top of the stairs also served no real purpose. Just a suggestion - get rid of the small ones and replace with one slightly larger that works properly at the top of the stairs.
Review 86:Bedroom, breakfasts
Review 87:nothing, everything was amazing
Review 88:everything, from the great hosts to food, everything was lovely and all the extra's made it. we would definitely be visiting again and we would recommend it
Review 89:Nowhere really nice to eat within walking distance, but there was within easy car drive. The basin was in the room rather than bathroom which is not my preferred option but wasn't a problem at all.
Review 90:Amanda & Steve were friendly and helpful. The twin room my mum and I stayed in was spacious and beds comfortable. There were lovely extras such as the Lindisfarne Mead and a good coffee machine. The breakfast was delicious and generous. All in all a super place to stay and we will go back and recommend to anyone to stay.
Review 91:My husband & I stayed in the Blue room which was very well appointed, spacious room. Lovely large ensuite bathroom with shower. If you're a light sleeper you might be better in one of the rooms at the back as the church clock chums hourly, however I slept so soundly I only heard it twice over the 2 nights we stayed. The owners are very pleasant & helpful. Breakfast was delicious & included homemade granola, muesli & preserves. Excellent location for visiting Holy Island, The Farne Isles, Bamburgh & Alnwick. We also visited Cragside, which was worthwhile.
Review 92:everything steve and amanda were great hosts food was lovely and all the extra's made it and location was just right for visiting surrounding areas would definitely be visiting again and would recommend it
Review 93:We could not find anything wrong all
Review 94:Comfort, welcome, food everything!
