Reviews for Romneys Apartments

Review 1:No hot water and no shower for 2 days spoilt an otherwise perfect location

Review 2:Everything about the apartment was great apart from there being no hot water for the duration of our stay. we had to leave earlier than planned so we could go home and shower

Review 3:Loved the wooden beds, the double bed was the comfiest bed I have ever ever slept in! The kids loved the bunk bed and big TV. The bath and underfloor heating in bathroom was excellent!

Review 4:The staff were not great at first. Upon check in we were left stood at the bar for 5 minutes with 3/4 staff members busy but not acknowledging us. They did however redeem themselves in the evening as both the food and service was great

Review 5:The rooms were very unique and definitely worth the money, as was the food. Brilliant value for money

Review 6:On a winters night it was a bit cold and draughty staying in family 'snug 4' with a young baby - we needed an extra heater to be comfortable.

Review 7:Staff were great; real helpful and friendly. Pub food was good quality and accommodation was quirky/fun.

Review 8:Dish washer was not working and as we stayed over the Christmas period this created a lot of additional work. We did report it during our stay but no one came to look at it.

Review 9:Great location with pub on site. Staff were excellent in accommodating our party on Christmas Eve. Very nice bedrooms and well equipped kitchen.

Review 10:The apartment was next to kitchen and with young children we didn;t get much sleep as the kitchen staff were throwing pans around and chatting into the early hours . water leaking from bathroom into lounge below

Review 11:The food and pub friendly atmosphere

Review 12:There is no shower in the snug but it is quite clear this is due to the low, sloping ceiling in the bathroom. A good excuse for a relaxing bath, which was lovely. Unfortunately, when 4 individuals all need a wash after getting muddy and rained on this is not the quickest method! It would have be nice to have a shower head attached to the taps for efficiency (especially hair washing!) Unfortunately the wi-fi was terrible and hardly worked at all so it might be easier to look up all your activities/directions before you get there.

Review 13:Great location, friendly staff. Great apartment, beautiful, very clean and warm. The beds were extremely comfortable and the underfloor heating in the bathroom was a nice touch. I had read reviews about being able to hear noise from the other snugs but we found that apart from an occasional door closing this was not the case. The apartment is self catering but as the kitchen facilities were not working we were given a discount upon arrival. The kitchen was well equipped with all cutlery and utensils we might have needed. The food in the restaurant was absolutely superb, although very busy so need to book well in advance, especially at weekends. Limited parking as the pub gets very busy. Check-in/out at the bar was quick and easy. Overall we were very impressed, had a great time and would love to stay there again.

Review 14:We stayed in the stables and although really comfortable and great value for money, a few things could do with improving. For instance, the dish washer didn't work and there was a little bit of damp.

Review 15:fantastic weekend with the family for my step dads 60th birthday. The pub is amazing with great food, plenty of choice and good real ales. The staff couldn't do enough for us!

Review 16:The weather!

Review 17:Very nice snug apartment, very clean, lovely furnishings, good size for 4 adults. Staff were brilliant, food in the pub was incredible. Very highly recommended.

Review 18:Poor maintenance eroding the investment - disinterested staff

Review 19:Have visited Romney's several times really disappointed. Booked one of the snugs cooking facilities out of order and have been for months - failed to meet expectations - were moved after much persuasion but that apart #2 also had issues with heating & dripping tap - glad it was only for one night.

Review 20:The dishwasher didn't work - we didn't realise this until we'd stacked it, so it was a nuisance to have to unstack it all again and wash everything by hand.

Review 21:Beautiful location and house, quirky and very nicely done up. The beds were really comfortable and the pub next door served great food.

Review 22:The weather !!

Review 23:We wanted to do something nice for our mum and decided to take her out for a day in Kendall and stay over somewhere. The weather was awful so didn't spend much time in the lovely town, the apartments more than made up for the weather!!! The were lovely and cozy and the food in Romneys pub was excellent, the staff were lovely and we were more than happy to have a night in the apartment with a bottle of red... It was perfect

Review 24:Just the kitchen not working and this formation not being passed on.

Review 25:I booked the apartment for my mum and step dad as a surprise as they're having their house renovated and the kitchen and bathroom were out of use for the weekend - so it was disappointing when my mum said the kitchen appliances weren't working - when this was reported to staff they had said it had been made clear on the website that none of the appliances in any of the snugs were working (except the kettle) but I'm afraid we never received this information. That was the only let down for them - but quite annoying due to the reasons is booked them in there specifically. The apartment was gorgeous and the staff were great, really friendly and saved them a nice table in the pub for food. They loved it and would go back - albeit ideally with a working kitchen.

Review 26:The heating system os not really good. We are freezing and there is no control of the heater to increase the level.

Review 27:The apartment is good for family of 6.

Review 28:We stayed in lodge one and it was fantastic, so clean and modern. Nice and cosy too. The gastro pub was lovely, staff so friendly and food was spot on. Will be back.

Review 29:The only negative point was the sink in the bathroom was only small.

Review 30:Staff very friendly. location excellent. bus stop outside that takes you to various places in the lakes and 10 mins on the bus into Kendal. You could not ask for more. Ensure that you visit the pub attached it FAB :)

Review 31:There is only one bathroom on the upper floor. With 5 people sharing only one bathroom was make no sense when we need in the morning or at night.

Review 32:I love the feeling of nature and country side. The owner was so helpful and friendly.

Review 33:From the moment we arrived to when we left our stay was excellent. The staff were all friendly and helpful and we cannot rate the manager Andy highly enough for all the trouble he took squeezing our family of 5 in to eat on two occasions at short notice, sorting the heating when we messed up the timer and generally being professional and gracious. Definitely somewhere we will hope to visit again when staying in the Lake District.

Review 34:I took bread and bacon for breakfast as knew breakfast was not included and with having children with me thought it easier. The kitchen had no electricity so I could not use the grill. Apparently we should have been told on booking.

Review 35:The room was stunning, kids loved their bunk beds. The food and staff in the bar restaurant could not do enough to help you.

Review 36:In our room, there was no shower which was quite awkward for us. Fortunately, we had a friend staying in another room so that we could have shower in his room.

Review 37:the apartment is clean, spacious and close to Kendal College. The restaurant is quite popular with nice food, beers and wines.

Review 38:We booked the Snug accommodation with self catering. However, the cooking facilities were unavailable. Although we had a discount, this did impact on the quality of our stay.

Review 39:Decor. Location.

Review 40:Problems with the shower leaking through to downstairs, quickly patched up but it was obvious this wasn't the first time.

Review 41:The staff were all very friendly and helpful, particularly the waiting staff in the restaurant. The stables we stayed in were lovely, excellent value for money.

Review 42:Only thing I would have liked but due to lack of room in snug 5 is a shower for convenience. Bath is great in the bedroom but after a long day out and about a quick shower is needed.

Review 43:Loved literally everything about the stay. Brilliant facilities in the apartments and a wonderful pub with great staff below.

Review 44:No cooking facilities, despite showing in photographs. No shower for hair washing. No coffee table. The rug on the floor was stained.

Review 45:Location, friendly owners, comfortable beds and linen. Comfortable sofa with great view. Very clean.

Review 46:For some reason, we had no bath plug! The staff were brilliant at trying to find one, although there seemed to be none around. They were exceedingly apologetic and gave us complementary wine, again a lovely touch.

Review 47:Modern, clean and very well equipped(including tea, coffee etc)We loved having a jug of fresh milk , such a small but lovely touch.

Review 48:We had 4 adults in our party but only 2 could sit at the table at one time, very little storage space available, especially in 2nd bedroom, insufficient matching crockery in kitchen. Basically impractical for 4 adults. Quite expensive for standard of accommodation, especially compared to other places we stayed on our trip. Pub was expensive for the quality and quantity of the food provided.

Review 49:Modern.

Review 50:Only thing missing was a Toilet Brush.

Review 51:Perfect spot to get to from the motorway, within touching distance of the Lake District. Excellent value for money food in the restaurant.

Review 52:The tv had a mind of it's own and would turn on and off at it's leisure. However this did not effect our stay as we found it amusing.

Review 53:We had a fabulous stay in the lodge. The staff were extremely friendly full of warm welcomes. The food was outstanding. Highly recommended.

Review 54:WE LOVED EVERYTHING...there is generally nothing wrong as far as we concerned. Loved it.

Review 55:We absolutely loved apartment we have been given,we arrived on Sunday around 9.00pm and unfortunately kitchen was shut, staff gave us crisps ,nuts for nothing, that made us feel welcome as we were only foreign turists there,))) nice touch by staff( they were awesome( not for free snack) in every way,Pub next to apartments (that where you get your keys) is gorgeous and extremely cosy ,they had a quiz night that night ,was nice. We can advice to get some food as they do not serve breakfast, but can make you bacon roll or something,so if you like your breakfast take something with you as you can cook everything in apartment.Parking free. We can recommend for 100%

Review 56:1. no shower only bath, very small basin 2. nobody clean the room the next day, take out the trash etc. 3. the most important, paper wall! you can hear everything from the next door, people walking, speaking, using the toilet etc. its just like right next to you. we even got a couple knocking our bedroom wall at 11pm when we were washing face in the toilet! then they were gotting up from bed and walking in their room, so they realized the big noise they just made, we would have heard the same.

Review 57:we lived in snug 1, its stylish and clean. easy to find

Review 58:Breakfast would be nice, though plenty of facilities to make your own.

Review 59:Incredibly friendly staff. Excellent location for a stop on the way to the Lakes. Lovely meal, couldn't fault the room. Would definitely return.

Review 60:The oven did not work and i was not aware of that when I booked. As I had my children it was difficult to make a meal.

Review 61:The apartment was beautiful throughout. Very homely and cosy.

Review 62:The staff were very efficient, helpful and approachable. Our apartment was very nice, functional, clean, comfortable and we had a lovely view. Very quiet too, good shower.

Review 63:noisy floors, they creak and move. can hear EVERYTHING that goes on in other rooms!!!! NOISY BEDS very squeaky! not a chance of romance here without anyone hearing. Snugs are not for young kids or old who don't like open very tight stairs. and uneven floor levels and beams. no tea or coffee in room but was given a jug of milk???

Review 64:Quirky and great fun. great pub food and staff.

Review 65:Sound proofing maybe needed could hear other guests. Booking . Com had the wrong information regarding snug accommodation no cooking facilities in snugs at the moment but this was very well sorted out by staff discount given and a free breakfast for both of us great customer service.

Review 66:Lovely place, lovely staff, great food in restaurant comfortable accommodation in snug

Review 67:Wifi connectivity poor. We look for free wifi when we book anywhere and when it does not work it is disappointing. Staff told us to sit in a certain spot in the room and not move. It did not work.

Review 68:Lodge 1 was lovely, well appointed, comfortable, spotless, quiet, lovely decor, attractive outlook over a park. Absolutely beautiful.

Review 69:From the time I phoned to say that we might be late arriving through to arrival, serving the meal and departure the staff were very helpful and friendly. Very good bathroom and accommodation. We would have liked a light over a mirror but everything was fine. It was a pub on a busy road but we hardly heard a thing.

Review 70:The staff were lovely here very friendly and accommodating. I liked that you could sit by a window which looks directly onto the playground,so you can keep an eye on the kids as well as enjoy your food.

Review 71:Best thing about Romneys is the apartment which is very comfortable with all self catering equipment . Staffs are great n ready to help for any queries. Location is great ,18-20 mins to Windermere Lake Thank you !

Review 72:The wifi kept cutting off, the telly didn't work, the hob and microwave didn't work and they said that we could have bacon sandwichs but when we asked in the mornings they didn't have breakfast avalible

Review 73:The snug apartments were very modern and very well looked after, the bed is very comfy and the bath is amazing!

Review 74:The bathroom is poorly designed. The shower wouldn't run hot for more than 30 seconds. It had no hooks for clothes and more importantly no shower curtain to keep clothes and towel dry during the shower! Location of super hot towel rail by door resulted in one of the party getting an unplanned scorch when trying to sort themselves out. Not ideal. Good water pressure though.

Review 75:Very easy to find and very convenient for us as we were passing through. The pub was incredibly busy (Saturday night) but as we were self-catering we were happy to sort ourselves out and had a lovely quiet night in.

Review 76:No cooking facilities very bad parking in the evening when the pub was serving evening meals. Very thin walls could hear people next door. Bad traffic noise with being on main road, shower didn't work on last day poor water pressure, people smoking outside the pub smoke came into apartment unable to have window open. Staff not very helpful when there was no parking spaces left told to park on a side street not good when you are a resident there.

Review 77:Very unhelpful staff, wrong info about accommodation, booked 2 apartment for 2 families. Went there to find it's 2 small bedrooms with no space for children beds. Had even called a day before to check if child beds could be accommodated. Very disappointed

Review 78:Location

Review 79:Only stayed one night and used the adjacent pub/restaurant but apartment was set up to accommodate self catering if required. Staff very helpful despite arriving at a very busy time.Good location for exploring the lakes. Food very good.

Review 80:The apartment was ideal for us as we took our 3 teenage grandchildren to the lakes for a few days. Everyone had their own space. The kids are 2 boys and 1 girl so some privacy was essential. The location is ideal for touring the lakes and the surrounding attractions. The apartment is very well equipped and comfortable. We ate in the adjoining pub a couple of times and also ate in the apartment. This flexibility was good for us. I would recommend these apartments to anyone without hesitation.

Review 81:We had not been informed when making the reservation or checking in that the cooking facilities were not working - this is self catering! The stairs are very steep in the snug.

Review 82:Modern, clean and friendly staff. Good pub with excellent food.

Review 83:The playground for the kids next to the bar/restaurant. Dinner at the restaurant was delicious and the staff very accomodating due to us have very young children.

Review 84:When booking in the description it stated four poster bed and it wasn't. When making breakfast there wasnt a can opener!! Apart from that the stay was excellent

Review 85:The pub was very busy but the staff were still very Friendly and helpful

Review 86:Cons..... I really don't have much to complain (just info for any other travelers really). There's tea and coffee supplied but there's no milk and there's no washing machine in this apartment.

Review 87:I stayed in Lodge 2 which is a 2 room apartment. The toilet and the shower rooms are separate which is good as there's only one toilet in the apartment. I love their shower room, the radiator is constantly on which means when you are inside, you won't feel too cold to take off your clothes for a shower. Water is very hot and powerful too! Good size shower room, it's not too cramp. The rest of the apartment is clean and decorations are quite modern. Kitchen has almost everything you'll need. The apartments are located just next to their pub. It's fairly easy to spot from the main road (we found it at night when it was very dark very easily). Check in would also be at the bar as well. I stayed there on a Sunday night. There were no noise from the bar nor from the road.

Review 88:The meal in the restaurant was good; we were pleased that we had booked it ahead of our visit as it was popular with the local residents. We had 2 self catering rooms. In one the cooker was disconnected; we were given a reduction in our bill without us having to ask.

Review 89:Everything! Stunning and quirky 'snug' and pub was the same - food excellent, staff very welcoming and friendly, didn't want to leave and will certainly go back.

Review 90:That breakfast was not included in the price even if it could of been provided to cook yourself in the apartment therefore we feel the apartment was overpriced by about £25 we paid £125 for one night. Also told there was no one on site from midnight until 9am again pointing to it being overpriced considering no night staff cost to them.

Review 91:The bath in the bedroom and the beautiful staircase, also being attached to a pub with a good restaurant was great because you didn't have to drive anywhere.

Review 92:Staff were great...couldn't do enough for us. Loved having our own peaceful flat. Brilliant after a long drive and easy to find. Pub restaurant and play area for children was fabulous.

Review 93:Needed a bit of TLC, TV's didn't work, 1 kept turning itself off and the other pixelating all the time. Wi-fi very weak. Car parking difficult during pub hours.

Review 94:Being able to have more room to move about, able to do own breakfast. Romney's do a fantastic carvery meal in the gastro pub, no wonder it's hard to get a car park.

Review 95:We would have loved a washing machine instead of a dishwasher as we never used the dishwasher being just two of us and not many dishes even though we were there 6 nights.

Review 96:Eletric tool to cook didn't work but our meals have been cook by the restaurant for free ;-) Thanks again !

Review 97:Really fun and nice people Room was very beauty and clean

Review 98:We got a discount because of cooking facilities not working which was fine, but would have liked a toaster, also no shower to wash my hair, but neither would stop me staying again

Review 99:We enjoyed everything about our stay, we stayed in snug 1 and are already planning to book it again next year the snug was beautiful and comfortable, food was very good, the atmosphere was so nice and friendly .

Review 100:The 'Snugs' are small apartments located in one building - on the first floor - not apparent on the website. Unfortunately the kitchen was not working - although we were told this before we arrived and received a discount to compensate. No shower - just a big bath

Review 101:The staff in the restaurant and bar were all delightful - we enjoyed some lovely meals and had fun taking part in a quiz night. The apartment is modern and feels luxurious. The location is outside the centre of Kendal but good access to the main routes - and ideal for getting into the Lakes and Dales

Review 102:Check in was quick simple and the staff were very friendly. The Snug accomodation was quirky but very cleverly put together and the kids loved the bunk beds.

Review 103:2 of the radiators wouldn't switch off and even though a member of staff came to look, no one could fix the problem so it was a little too hot all night!

Review 104:Plenty of space for 4 adults. Kitchen great, comfy beds. Lovely staff!

Review 105:WIFI internet runs from slow to nothing Dusty sofa and armchair in living room No basin in shower, only a small one in the toilet

Review 106:Friendly staff, OK location Good food and beer in the pub Most of the apartment was good...

Review 107:Shower screen leaked very badly onto the floor. Light bulbs missing/not working. Cob webs/dust on closer inspection.

Review 108:Everything about the stable. Pub/restaurant. Beautiful carvery. Extremely friendly staff.

Review 109:Wasn't able to use kitchen in the snug as the cooker and job where not in use. Discount was given

Review 110:Loved the whole place, people are so friendly and the snug where we stayed was excellent.

Review 111:There was a manager on duty and her attitude was awful. All the other staff members were amazing, it's just a shame it was the manager!

Review 112:Location was great, the food in the pub was great! The accommodation was lovely. The staff helped set up some presents, champagne and flowers for my parents which was a great surprise! Loved this place and will definitely return!

Review 113:The overall stay was fine but the accommodation for us was not as advertised in the booking.com photos, it was very very small to the point that visiting the bathroom for a 6ft tall man was like having to do limbo and would suit kids. Very unique but so so small and almost uncomfortable. The staff at the bar don't know much about the rooms, the water went off on our last day and was only fixed when the manager was available after 9am. Just remember there are not many perks for the staying customer at this place, you are left to fend for yourself a bit and I feel they could improve in this area if willing.

Review 114:I liked that it was attached to a restaurant with a great outdoor play area, understand the venue is very popular to locals, there is no priority to paying customers and you need to book a table early. The rooms were adequate but not amazing.

Review 115:We paid the £160 for 1 night and added a second night and were charged another £160. However, the apartment was not serviced in between, same towels, soap, no toilet rolls etc and that is not fair!

Review 116:Spacious and well equipped in a good location, with ample parking. The onsite pub served good food and had a useful children's play area.

Review 117:The bathroom is a bit small.

Review 118:Almost everything. Great value for money. And do order a burger in the pub. It's the best burger I had so far. Apartments are a bit small, but they are very nice and comfortable.

Review 119:Everything exactly as described and better. Lovely food in the pub. Great for children. The stables were lovely.7 adults and 1 toddler worked perfectly. Loved it.

Review 120:The long window in the bathroom. Needs a blind it donethibg to screen it as the person in the bedroom can see right into the bathroom which vlmpromises privacy.

Review 121:A very quirky place. We liked the thought of how the rooms have been designed.

Review 122:The lack of cooking facilities did not ruin our stay at all! We had nibbles and used the fridge and kettle. So everything was great!

Review 123:Beautiful location and stunning wooden and tile featured apartment! No cooking facilities but a lovely pub downstairs and we were refunded an amount for not being able to cook. Would definitely go back!!!

Review 124:The location was ideal for exploring the Lake District. Convenient to all the main roads. The Restraunt was fabulous and the staff were great. Accommodation was better than expected.

Review 125:Checking in at the bar was a negative after a long drive. We were advised of the removal of the cooking facilities about a week before our visit. we only had tepid water for a bath despite twice letting the staff know of the issue - they tried but could not resolve during out 6 day stay. They gave a partial refund without quibble.

Review 126:Nice people and nice property and I would use again.

Review 127:lugging the suitcase up the narrow stairs. If a lift cannot be installed then perhaps can widen the stairs.

Review 128:Uniquely furnished apartment akin to living in a room in a castle.

Review 129:I stayed here and loved every second of my stay. All staff was lovely even the lovely cleaning lady made us feel very comfortable thank you will definitely be back.

Review 130:really noisy- could hear almost word for word the neighbouring apartment and every time they moved our floorboards squeaked!

Review 131:The apartments look really nice, exposed beams and a huge bed

The Fine Print

Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances all Snug Rooms are without cooking facilities until further notice.
