Reviews for The Lovat, Loch Ness

Review 1:We were given a free room upgrade on arrival from an exterior room to a lovely room within the hotel which was very much appreciated by both of us. The staff were all extremely welcoming and made us feel very comfortable whilst staying at the Lovat. The New Year enertainmet was great and I can make no complaint on the food served to us over the weekend. We would definitely return here and 100% recommend to family/friends.

Review 2:Room was too small and there were no charging points in the room. Food was very expensive. Breakfast menu is very small for the price they charge.

Review 3:Good location

Review 4:The heating in the room was poor, didn't work properly so we had to have an oil heater which smelled so bad we had to remove it. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and we both woke up with sore necks and backs. A shame because the room itself was lovely

Review 5:The staff couldn't do enough to help when we raised issues over the heating in the room, so we must highlight that they were very apologetic and helpful.

Review 6:Nothing - no complaints at all.

Review 7:We had been given a free upgrade because it was our anniversary which was very much appreciated. The food in the restaurant was excellent and the service was very good. I would definitely recommend this hotel!

Review 8:Room was a bit small but well appointed (newly refurbished bathroom was lovely) and comfortable.

Review 9:Arrived to find I had been upgraded at no extra staff. Fantastic staff in a lovely location. The hotel is fabulous with large drawing and sitting rooms and a roaring log fire.

Review 10:Nothing not to like.

Review 11:Excellent room (free unprompted upgrade due to quiet period), great location, clean room, nice touches (free sweeties and cookies), good wifi signal. Games supplied for evening amusement and wide range of DVDs available for guest use.

Review 12:The staff were very friendly and helpful. They offered us free upgrades. The breakfast choice was superb and we also had dinner in the restaurant which was superb.

Review 13:Incredible views of Loch Ness from the south. Seeing mists coming down from the highlands into the loch as an I-kid-you-not double rainbow formed above our heads was a magical experience. And the hotel restaurant was absolutely first-class. I was somewhat puzzled by the enormous size of the restroom attached to our room, but am not complaining. Seriously though it was nearly the size of the bedroom.

Review 14:I had planned to book a beauty treatment but the beautician was on holiday, with no "substitute".

Review 15:We stayed with two other couples, visiting Fort Augustus for a weekend. We stayed in one of the external rooms which are sort of like motel rooms - main door access with car parking directly outside the room. They were small but very comfortable with a lovely wet-room style bathroom. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice of cooked meals, cereals, continental etc. We ate at the hotel one evening and it was delicious. Not a large menu but everyone said their choice was lovely.

Review 16:The fan in the bathroom would take 20-30 minutes before it would turn off. However, there was an override switch (hidden in the skylight space) that could turn the fan off. So no problem. The guests in the neighbouring rooms didn't know about this switch though, so we could hear their fans in the morning.

Review 17:The lodge, staff, location and breakfast were excellent.

Review 18:We booked a room with wheelchair access with disabled facilities on the ground floor. Which had ample space to get wheelchair moved around. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast and dinner very good, ample car parking with lovely gardens

Review 19:The room and hotel was generally clean but we noticed some ants (4 or 5) in the bathroom as we were getting ready to check out.

Review 20:The (exterior) room was lovely and comfortable. Breakfast was great and the staff friendly.

Review 21:Nothing of any real significance but dinner was nothing exceptional, in fact our choices could have been better

Review 22:Good location, good food, friendly staff

Review 23:Breakfast was ok/good and choices were limited.

Review 24:The hotel in general was to a very high standard. The room was very well equipped; clean and comfortable. The bathroom was a good size and like the rest of the room had a good feel to it. I would describe the hotel as cosy and that really works in its favour. It felt very nice coming back from a day's worth of exploring and having a good meal back to the room and would definitely consider coming back again.

Review 25:the manner of the manager/owner when we raised a small query - made us feel very uncomfortable and we wished we had said nothing although the very large booklet of information asked for suggestions!

Review 26:clean professional set up near the loch although not as close as you may think

Review 27:small air leak from bath u-bend caused unpleasant smell in bathroom and bedroom when we returned on third evening - reported it the following morning and staff fixed it by the time we returned in evening and explained the problem - great customer service!

Review 28:the setting, the room, and the staff!

Review 29:Studio room wasn't as nice as in the hotel, also would really like a bath to relax in in the room but the lovat don't seem to do baths, there was plenty of space in the shower room to put one in and would add to the experience

Review 30:Staff were great especially the buy at front desk who kindly stored our bikes safely overnight and was very helpful and friendly

Review 31:Lovely décor and communal areas to relax - lovely open fire. Good room with nice view of the loch in the distance and only a couple of minutes stroll down to the village. Excellent restaurant.

Review 32:Nothing

Review 33:Loved the inviting fire Good wifi Warm cosy room Nice shower Great breakfast Nice restaurant Good cocktail drinks Loved the added touch of some board games to play

Review 34:There's nothing about the Lovat I didn't like - I'd stay there again in a heartbeat.

Review 35:The staff are courteous, attentive and clearly work very hard to make this business work. The food was excellent and served in very pleasant surroundings. I found my stay to be very good value for money

Review 36:Prices have risen quite sharply over the last few years, both for rooms as well as meals, and despite this being a great place to stay we are starting to wonder whether prices are getting a bit too high.

Review 37:Stayed here many times and like it very much, friendly staff, very cozy and comfy, good food etc. Also great that there is a real effort to be environmentally friendly.

Review 38:The company logo doesn't do the place justice. :)

Review 39:Comfortable, good sized room and bathroom with everything we needed. Staff were really friendly and the onsite restaurant was really good. The breakfast was the best full scotish we had all trip. Highy recommend.

Review 40:Only being able to stay one night as the hotel is shut on Sundays and Mondays in the quiet season.

Review 41:Coming back to the Lovat after two years home in Australia. The attention to detail, comfort and ambience. Easy but professional service. The restaurant is equal to fine food anywhere in the world.

Review 42:the only thing that bothered us was our duvet cover. If we move while we sleep it makes noise. I don't understand what kind of duvet cover .but for most lovat is fantastic.

Review 43:Most especially location.

Review 44:Creature comforts such as wifi, heating, TV, wet room, lovely food and welcoming staff and plenty of room inside and out. Also the masseuse Amanda was excellent.

Review 45:Nothing!

Review 46:Lovely studio room in the grounds perfect for mobility problems and just a short walk to the Brasserie for a gourmet dinner. Excellent service from the staff and care to ensure that my dairy free husband had nothing to upset him.

Review 47:Chilly bathroom. No drawers suitable for clothes

Review 48:Clean, comfortable room with a huge (but chilly bathroom). We received a warm welcome and all the staff were friendly during our stay and we even received complimentary cookies on our departure. The drawers in the furniture were tiny and not suitable for a long stay. As were were only there 2 nights we didn't bother to unpack. Good choice of food at breakfast and hot meals are freshly cooked. We dined in the Brasserie and, whilst not cheap, the food was delicious and we didn't begrudge the expense. We paid for a deluxe room and were upgraded to a super deluxe. On reading the various comments, however, I am sure I would be satisfied with one of the cheaper rooms in the outside lodge. The Victorian splendour has been retained in the public rooms and sipping a drink by the roaring fire is a joy. I would definitely stay here again

Review 49:The staff were friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable, and more than willing to assist form the off. Food in the Brasserie was delicious! I'd return for this alone! :) Beautiful scenery (very quaint and picturesque) and very peaceful surroundings - a stark, and welcome, contrast to city life. Log fire in each of the public rooms made for a perfect cosy, relaxing environment during a chilly evening/ night. Very comfortable bed - best sleep I've had in ages!

Review 50:not applicable.

Review 51:delightful hotel with pleasant and very friendly staff. Such a shame it is so far from my home otherwise there would be frequent visits'

Review 52:The bed was far too narrow for two persons (seems to be a general issue in UK).

Review 53:Location. Good food. The common rooms are very comfortable and stylish.

Review 54:Could have had a choice of pillows to make the stay perfect.

Review 55:We have travelled a lot all over the world and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

Review 56:Can't find anything we weren't happy with at all.

Review 57:Hotel and Staff were lovely and very helpful, food great and made to feel very welcome. We were a family of three couples and four of us were offered an upgrade from the Studios to rooms in the main hotel where our other family couple were staying which was very kind. Would definitely recommend the Lovat and if ever in this ares again would definitely return to this hotel. We all enjoyed every Minuit spent there. the location is wonderful with spectacular views and very quite.

Review 58:The beds we comfy but were very high, any small person would struggle to get on it

Review 59:Great food, great service, staff were very friendly. And got given a home made cookie when we left

Review 60:It was our first get away in six month of seeing each other. I surprised my girlfriend with the weekend at the Lovat. It's was the perfect weekend get away. Well worth paying the bit extra for! Will be back in March. ☺

Review 61:Nothing. absolutely no complaints, our guestsfrom Australia were blown away by theirr experience

Review 62:Set menu was fantastic in preparation and taste. Highly recommend it Staff ( including Carolyn the owner ) were most attentive

Review 63:The only negative thing was that the location of the bar was a bit offside.

Review 64:A hotel where details matter and where they have a restaurant that is one of the best in Scotland. The manager and owner takes great pride in her hotel and she really makes her guests enjoy their stay. Very good value for your money!

Review 65:Just hope we can return.

Review 66:The rooms were exceptionally well appointed and the beds comfortable. Our family took three rooms and all were very clean, quiet and welcoming. We had a birthday dinner in the restaurant: the staff was welcoming, the food was very good and the views pleasant. I really enjoyed our brief stay. The location, in Ft. Augustus, is superb for a visit to Loch Ness. We had a nice walk after dinner along the loch and the canal, saw lots of happy wild rabbits, blooming flowers everywhere. Peaceful and lovely. After our trip, when my father and I were confused about a bill, the staff response was prompt, helpful and courteous.

Review 67:The restaurant was fabulous. The room was beautiful. The staff were warm and friendly. Fort Augustus is lovely. We just keep going back.
