Reviews for Best Western Argyll Hotel

Review 1:I booked a premier double with sea views my sea view was a house in front of my window about 2 feet away not sea view my bedroom floor sloped downward couldn't leave a cup because it ran down the table

Review 2:My room looked onto side street and it was Christmas time there was a lot of street noise at closing time.

Review 3:Quick service by the staff they were attentive.

Review 4:The entertainment very dated , a lot of noise from the pub across the road at closing time but didn't last to long

Review 5:Staff very pleasant , great location , breakfast very good , rooms clean and tidy

Review 6:Felt the hotel was a bit outdated could do with a makeover ..... Television had no reception in room Room on entry was frozen cold unheated also the bathroom was not of a good standard of cleanliness, Found the bar to be very expensive ( at £15 a bottle of wine )expected better for £100 a night

Review 7:Room had a nice view ...staff were really friendly good selection at breakfast

Review 8:The food was a little too pub like for a 'restaurant'!, and the custard with the apple pie was out of a tin, you can tell by the taste, so not good.

Review 9:The room was clean, and good en-suite, even tho we were on the third floor.

Review 10:everything from the cheap decor to the foreign staff. employ locals. italian restaurant ran by indians, poor quality of food and language barrier is awful as for a scottish hotel there is very little scottish people working there, disgrace

Review 11:leaving the place

Review 12:I would have preferred a room with a sea view, which would have been possible as the hotel was not fully booked

Review 13:There was peace and quiet, the staff friendly, but not in your face

Review 14:good value for money especially as it was centrally located. Breakfast was good although better pouring tea and coffee pots would be nice and save losing half the liquid on the table.

Review 15:Staff were great, very helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them, the chefs in particular were very accommodating to my request to change the menu a little, overall a great experience.

Review 16:Staff very attentive and helpful. Food good in the restaurants and the Italian restaurant - Rio. Overall the stay was excellent. Only 1 downfall, No Parking available.

Review 17:Management were rude and aloof thought it was below they to interact with guests. Cleaning staff were glum and wouldn't acknowledge you.

Review 18:Waiting staff were friendly and willing to help at all times. Breakfast was basic but okay.

Review 19:it has seen better days though still charming windows could have been much cleaner as usual in the UK far to expensive for given standard

Review 20:right on the spot in Dunnon splendid views on the Clyde very good bar/restaurant (ate the a few times there even when we stayed in our cottage)

Review 21:It was awful. A complete rip off! They exploit their older guests. We were very very disappointed (by the way - we are in our 50's and so we are not making the above comments based on being in a Saga trip). Very very poor.

Review 22:Nothing

Review 23:The vegetarian sausages for breakfast were a bit poor and I think you'd be better with quorn Cumberland sausages

Review 24:The staff were excellent and bedrooms very clean and bathrooms also very clean and modern , bed was cosy

Review 25:the car park was a little way away and the pillows were a bit firm....but the staff dealt with this without any trouble

Review 26:The staff couldn't do enough to help. They were exceptional!

Review 27:We stayed in a room with a four poster bed think possibly MacEwan Suite, which was lovely however there was no hairdryer in the room. Also to anyone going away for a romantic break might not wish to have this room as the bed is extremely noisy!

Review 28:My boyfriend and I decided to stay here a weekend in August, we loved it! The view from our room was fantastic and our room was immaculate! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The staff were friendly and helpful and the gentleman who checked us in was hilarious.

Review 29:Cold showers one morning but fixed quick! service slow at breakfast and dinner just not enough staff to cope with high number of visitors.

Review 30:Staff were lovely

Review 31:Location views are spectacular. Staff were helpful and friendly. Booked a clan room did think it would be more sumptuous bathroom was tired looking but did not detract from a fabulous break and the stunning views

Review 32:Unfortunately, we stayed on a Saturday night and there was a lot of noise from outside till after 3 o'clock in the morning.

Review 33:This hotel has a very central location, which I liked.

Review 34:The room was a bit dated! hall way had a damp smell, For the price I probably expected a little more.

Review 35:Staff were friendly. Food and drink were reasonably priced.

Review 36:Had to wait 15 minutes at an empty reception on arrival Entrance lobby has damp stains and mould - thankfully the rest of the hotel was OK Overall decoration is a little tired

Review 37:Good central location in Dunoon Good dining facilities

Review 38:Brewery Pub across the road from the hotel, played loud music Friday and Saturday nights.

Review 39:Location was great, Room was comfortable, breakfast was fab, staff were attentive. Hotel bar was reasonably priced.

Review 40:Parts of the room are very modern and the bed clean and comfortable but I think the carpet needed cleaned or changed due to the musty smell in the room

Review 41:Situated in great location, staff very nice, quick check in/out.

Review 42:Restaurant was a total let down, service was slow, starter was ok, main course was inedible. We went out for dinner after we left the restaurant.

Review 43:Location and friendly hotel staff

Review 44:REQUESTED GROUND FLOOR DUE TO DISABILITY, WAS GIVEN 3RD FLOOR ATTIC ROOM WITH NO WINDOW THAT OPENED. THIS WAS SORTED BY STAFF. AFTER BAR MEAL SITTING WITH FAMILY THE STAFF WERE OBVIOUSLY WANTING TO GO HOME STARTED MOVING OUR TABLES AT 10.30PM AND SHUTTING IT DOWN, AS RESIDENTS WE FELT THIS WAS NOT ENCOURAGING, THIS HAPPENED BOTH NIGHTS AND AS WE WERE CELEBRATING OUR 40th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY WITH ELDERLY DISABLED PARENTS WE HAD NOWHERE ELSE TO GO.

Review 45:LOCATION WAS EXCELLENT, BREAKFAST AND FOOD MENU WAS GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY.

Review 46:Terrible rack outside on the street opposite the hotel between 2 and 3 am when revellers left the pub and congregated at the local chippy. Woke everyone up.

Review 47:The staff was exceptionally helpful

Review 48:Stairway to 1st and Second floor was unclean and had a very stale smell. When coming down the stair the last step is dangerous there should be a sign that it is a different level from the others. Entrance to hotel could have been cleaner. Carpets in bedroom dirty and floor uneven. Breakfast could have been better poached egs strong vinegar taste . To be honest the Argyle Hotel is very tired and needs some care and refurbishment.

Review 49:Staff friendly, double room with four poster was spacious.

Review 50:Being one of the few good weather days we encountered we decided to dine outside on the balcony but were informed that we would have to go inside and carry our own meals ourselves due to "Health and safety issues". Needless to say we sourced our meal elsewhere and the hotel was £40 down

Review 51:Hotel only average but the breakfast was fulfilling and tasty

Review 52:we had a lovely stay from start to finish lovely friendly staff , food was delish , lots of space in the family room . wasn't our first stay and it won't be our last . see u next time

Review 53:Nothing to say :)

Review 54:I really liked the room with the four poster bed and sea view. It's definitely worth to pay a bit more. The room was huge with a nice bathroom. Price was reasonable. The hotel offers also vegetarian option for a breakfast.

Review 55:Breakfast cold buffet was poor . Some cooked items on breakfast menu had a supplement .

Review 56:Comfy bed bedding very clean. Hot breakfast cooked fresh and served to your table.

Review 57:limited choices at breakfast waitress filling up fresh orange and other drinks with cartons from happy shopper poached egg and smoked haddock supplimant fish like rubber door from kitchen to dining room filthy requiring cleaned no hot water on sunday unable to wash or shave male reseptionist would not reason with my complaints and was very abrupt pointing finger in my face also with one of my party of twenty people also they demanded we bring back twenty people before they would keep bar open

Review 58:hotel location and reasonable prices at bar

Review 59:Poor management of hotel. Even if the room was sold as single it would be too small, calling it a double was more than a stretch. Beds wedged against wall banged head and knees every time I turned. Was a small double bed not standard size.

Review 60:Noise at night from pub opposite, we would not stay again for that reason. I only wanted kippers for breakfast but had to pay an extra £4.50 which seems rather on the high side. Bathroom was mediocre.

Review 61:Staff were excellent and very helpful.

Review 62:Dirty cups at breakfast. Noisy guests through the night. Woken up by people on the street through the night. Hotel is tired and neglected. Stairwell is dangerous with parts of steps sloping and loose.

Review 63:Dinner was good and location of hotel is lovely

Review 64:Stayed here for a night and the place can't be faulted!! Great views, very clean, good food & the friendliest staff I've come across!!

Review 65:We had room 134 which was directly below the function room, due to the noise it was impossible to get to sleep until well after one o clock in the morning.

Review 66:Friendly staff and good food

Review 67:The room could be better. Bed was uncomfortable. Carpet was old. The breakfast was not very good. Scrambled eggs were horrible.

Review 68:Central position and good view from the bar.

Review 69:What's not to like everything perfect

Review 70:Manager,receptionist and all staff very helpful, can't praise them enough excellent stay can't wait to go back

Review 71:Try and get a room at the front of the hotel. Our room at the back overlooked a pub and a takeaway which was used as a taxi rank up to 3.30am...extremely noisy and did not have a good nights sleep.

Review 72:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was great.

Review 73:Stayed in a twin room ... 117 - One bed ok the other one - springs digging into your back needs changing or more padding applied

Review 74:Left with the feeling that the staff couldn't do enough for you....

Review 75:no remote for TV, which was tiny and high on the wall. WiFi intermittent at best.

Review 76:Great view from the room. Shower was hot and strong. Comfy bed to sleep on. Rio restaurant food was very good!

Review 77:The first room we were given was very small and there was no access to one side of the bed as it was against the wall. The receptionist went out of her way to change it by shuffling things round as the hotel was full. I was impressed.

Review 78:Staff were excellent. Large bus party in and hotel was full but staff managed to cope well. Beds were very comfortable and hotel in a great location.

Review 79:The staff were pleasant. The room was very comfortable. All our rooms were as there were 3 booked. Breakfast was lovley and the staff efficient. Checking out was easy. Will return. I have family in Dunoon and will be more than happy to stay again.

Review 80:Would've preferred one double bed to two singles together, maybe four-poster next time!

Review 81:Great sea views, lovely building, nice room. Naturally friendly staff whose relaxed but professional attitude made us feel at home.

Review 82:Only stayed for one night but will use again. We had one of the cheaper rooms and it was warm and clean with plenty of tea, coffee and milk. All staff very helpful and friendly. Great value.

Review 83:Old hotel which meant creaky floorboards from outside and above the room.

Review 84:The room was lovely. Spacious with good views of the Clyde. Excellent bed. Great food in Rio's restaurant.

Review 85:Only downside was a massive crowd of youngsters who exited the bars at 1am and made a lot of noise in the main street outside our room. Nothing to do with the hotel but unfortunate disturbance.

Review 86:Great friendly service from all members of staff, good value and location. Restaurant Rio was good for breakfast and dinner too.

Review 87:The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the service was excellent. I was upgraded to a super room at the top of the tower with brilliant views

Review 88:Small room. Window did not open much due to design. Bathroom dated but clean. Not that I needed it but hair dryer was a small folding travel one. Wife was not happy.

Review 89:Food good staff excellent breakfast good over all value for money.

Review 90:The Eastern European lady at the bar did not understand a word of English making it very hard work ordering drinks

Review 91:Location good , view over the Clyde very nice . The master of ceremonies at the wedding reception was very impressive he is very good at his job

Review 92:We were called by the hotel 2 days before informing us that due to electricity issues we did not have a room. We had been booked for months for a family wedding which was to be held at the hotel. Not impressed.

Review 93:There was nothing I didn't like about this hotel as I found it excellent in every way.!

Review 94:The hotel was fantastic and ideally located for the ferry. The housekeeping was excellent and the breakfast and reception staff were very friendly and helpful. For instance one night it was raining heavily and the rain was dripping from my ceiling on to my bed.I went down to 're eruption just to let them know and within five minutes they had upgraded me from my single room to a lovely double room at no extra cost.I

Review 95:The room was beautiful and bed was so comfy. Even the chairs and wee table were lovely to sit at and admire the view. All members of staff were so friendly and helpful in particular the general manager Deve gave us an instant impression of being looked after getting us a glass of water when we arrived.

Review 96:3rd floor attic bedroom overlooking argyll street, very small window no double glazing, which was very noisy with clubbers going home until 4.45am. Lift very old and scary. Bar closed at 11.30pm instead of 1am as advertised. Bedroom very small.

Review 97:Lift was sometimes quite slow.

Review 98:Staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Comfortable bedroom with an excellent view. Lunch menu was good. Very good central location, literally a step away from the town centre.

Review 99:Top Floor rooms with arch windows have height restrictions in areas and are probably smaller although they have made good use of the space available even at 5'5 i banged head numerous times. When concerns raised regarding this it was met by the receptionist "you should have learnt after the first incident" Not what i would have expected as i had booked a double room NOT a small double, apparently the hotel was full with coach party and they didn't want to split them up. Don't let it put you off the hotel just an area of concern make sure if you book a double you are allocated the room size you book as i believe there are small doubles in the hotel too charged at cheaper rates. Lift was very creaky and slow although it did work.

Review 100:Very Clean, Food Excellent Bar Prices Reasonable. Great Location near to Ferry port and has fantastic views.

Review 101:Can't think of anything.

Review 102:The location and the view was fantastic. The staff were very friendly and knowledgable of the area. Overall thumbs up from us.

Review 103:...because our room at the Argyll wasn't available due to maintenance. The owner really looked after us and the Esplanade is probably a better location than the Argyll, being quieter and on the 'beach'. Dunoon is a pretty little town and a good base to explore the surrounding countryside, which is beautiful.

Review 104:We booked a room only to be told on the day off arrival that the particular room was not available. We were offered a alternative room and a complimentary dinner......so all and all not the worst outcome. Unfortunately on the day the alternative room was not available which resulted in us being offered an alternative hotel and a complimentary dinner in the original hotel..........I could go on but I am still slightly miffed

Review 105:Staff were friendly

Review 106:we stayed overnight and wished we had stayed for the 2 nights, room was fantastic, spotless and very comfy,we just loved the 4 poster bed,a mix of old and modern,beautiful..staff were so helpful

Review 107:The lift is prehistoric and very slow -- but obviously difficult to replace.

Review 108:My single room was excellent value for money. The location is central Dunoon, and also convenient for the ferry. Reception staff were quick and efficient. (I did not eat at the hotel). The revamped bathroom was appreciated.

Review 109:The room we were put in at first although a double room it seemed to be more of a single room. Very small I would even say claustrophobic. Bed a bit uncomfortable.

Review 110:Staff was friendly and helpful. We asked to switch to a different room as the one we were put in at first was really tiny and it wasnt a problem for them, they have done it at no extra cost and we got a room with a bit of a sea view. Location is best you can get probobly. Breakfast was ok too

Review 111:I liked everything :0)

Review 112:The hotel was ideally situated for the ferry terminal and for the function I was there to attend. All who I met were very courteous and accommodating as I had turned up earlier than the advised check-in time due to the time of the wedding I was attending. I was granted access to my room with no problems, which I was grateful for as I had been travelling since 5.15am that morning. Everywhere was Spick and span. My room was lovely and the bed incredibly comfortable.... I just wished I was staying for longer!! The breakfast was freshly cooked and the buffet section well stocked with fruit, yogurts, pastries & cereals. I can totally recommend staying at this hotel from my experience.

Review 113:Lovely large clean room. Pleasant staff. Good value.

Review 114:Thought the dining room let the hotel down as it was dated

Review 115:Room was very comfortable and clean. Staff helpful and pleasant.

Review 116:The food was great and the staff really helpful

Review 117:Very helpful and friendly staff

Review 118:Hotel is excellent value, rooms were very clean, staff cheerful and helpful, unfortunately we did not eat there so no comments on food.

Review 119:Poor parking. Breakfast not very exciting. The hotel was a bit shabby.

Review 120:The staff were extremely friendly and helpful

Review 121:Cost of a single room(very small) was almost the same as a twin

Review 122:Friendly reception staff. Good food

Review 123:Lovely breakfast

Review 124:Ease of parking

Review 125:The lift

Review 126:The location we very peaceful

Review 127:n/a

Review 128:location of hotel the cleanliness of rooms and furnishings and a good cooked breakfast helpfull staff.
