Review 2:The hotel was excellent and we enjoyed our stay. Unfortunately the rating system above did not work. The staff and food excellent
Review 3:Nice clean and comfy rooms. We were meeting family members, all arriving at different times, so it was nice to have the bar/lounge area to all meet up. I love the convenience of the attached cafe so you can choose when and what you eat.
Review 4:Warm welcome, efficient admin and decent car park. Comfortable bed and good food at an affordable price.Generous breakfast included.View of Bamburgh Castle and sea from 1st floor rooms.
Review 5:Facilities were basic and the bathroom was rather outdated. Check out by 10am feels very early at the weekend.
Review 6:Good location close to Elingham. Very obliging staff who arranged an early check in for us.

Review 15:The bathroom wasn't very clean, duvet cover was inside out on the double bed. On the second day maids had re-made the double bed but not the single bed.
Review 16:The location was good, staff helpful and friendly.
Review 17:Room felt chilly when we arrived but soon warmed up with the room heater provided
Review 18:Friendly and helpful staff Good breakfast plenty of choice and good quality Had evening meal in restaurant. Excellent food well presented and freshly prepared. Room and ensuite was ideal for 3 although single bed not as comfortable.
Review 19:Visited to attend a family wedding at a nearby venue - this was a perfect satellite venue for accommodation - all my group happy!! Thoroughly recommend!
Review 20:no central heating- room very cold on arrival. Health and Safety Issues re heater. electric heater which is potentially dangerous to customers
Review 21:good location. clean and comfortable good menu and café bar for customers very comfortable beds
Review 22:Late check in of 3pm. Shower wasn't very powerful.
Review 23:Clean, friendly, great breakfast, tea and coffee in room, comfy beds, tv, Great place to get your head down. Cheap.
Review 24:Not much vegetarian option on the menu, fish and chips were excellent, spicey beanburgers were def not.
Review 25:Staff were fab, very professional and friendly. Good location to see the castles and coastline.
Review 26:Nothing bad to report at all!
Review 27:Lovely view over the fields to Bamburgh castle, super décor in the room and the ensuite, spotlessly clean and staff were very friendly.
Review 28:N/A
Review 29:We were going to a wedding close by and only really used the room to sleep so can't comment on staff or foo . But the room was very clean and tidy and the bed was comfy.
Review 30:Water pressure in shower was just adequate - could be improved.
Review 31:Staff were very friendly, informative re local places of interest & nothing was too much trouble. Food was Excellent!! Overall excellent value for money & excellent base for visiting Northumberland castles and beaches etc.
Review 32:Eveything exceeded expectations. Staff were amazing, everybody was friendly and helpful. Room was very very clean with brilliant drinks facilities in room. Purdy lodge was near a service station for easy fill ups for journeys out and home. Please do not let this put you off as we did not hear anything whatsoever with the likes of traffic and articulated lorries. Food in the restaurant was amazing. By the time we had ordered our drinks, food was brought to the table. Simply an amazing first time visit. Well done! And when budget permits, we will return.
Review 33:Cannot fault anything, its definitely not the Ritz but for a more budget hotel it's great.
Review 34:Great location for Bamburgh, customer service very good and nothing too much hassle particularly the lady serving at the bar in the evening. Also had a lovely meal in the hotel in the evening.
Review 35:Service in the restaurant at breakfast was a little slow on a couple of occasions.
Review 36:The staff were helpful and welcoming. The menu choices in the restaurant were very good, well presented and delicious. The location of the hotel was ideal for travelling to places of interest.
Review 37:I have breathing problems which I did not mention when booking the room. I would have preferred room 2 or 3 and not 10 but will know to point this out on our next stay.
Review 38:The dog yelping in the next room until after 10pm.
Review 39:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room had everything's I needed. Free wi-fi was a real bonus. Location was ideal for me and the room had a pleasant outlook.
Review 40:Bathroom would have been better if it was a bit larger..
Review 41:Friendly easy going staff always willing to help. Excellent food, at any time.. Good room, Lovely outlook & quiet
Review 42:Just wish the hotel was a little nearer to a village, just a little cut off should you just want a walk at night and on a very busy road. Other than that excellent.
Review 43:The Restaurant was excellent and the staff all very helpful and made you feel welcome. Nothing too much trouble.
Review 44:Nothing, everything was perfect & would certainly recommend Purdy Lodge to other travellers
Review 45:Top class service, amazing food from the restaurant both for breakfast & evening meal. Very friendly & helpful staff.
Review 46:The waiting time for breakfast was too long. and we felt thre hotel was expensive for the facilities on offer. The location on the main A1 next to a garage where lorries were parked was not particularly attractive to the eye.
Review 47:The pillows were not supportive enough. Unable to open the bedroom window, consequently the bedroom was too warm & stuffy.
Review 48:Pleasant, welcoming staff. Good situation with a lovely view. Good food.
Review 49:We didn't have a bad experience, but one night the restaurant was so busy and there was a staff shortage. The poor girls were run off their feet.
Review 50:We were very pleased with Purdy Lodge. It was an ideal location for all we had planned for our holiday. Central for visits to Bamburgh, Seahouses. Berwick, Alnwick, Cragside etc. The room was very comfortable and clean. Outlook over cornfields towards Bamburgh Castle. Staff very pleasant. Shop by the petrol station for papers etc.
Review 51:If visiting again I would eat elsewhere. Full breakfast was included in the price of our stay however I would not pay £8.50 for the breakfast.
Review 52:Great location, not too far from Bamburgh, Seahouses, Holy Island. Lovely clean rooms with lovely view.
Review 53:Room was cramped and uncomfortable and not particularly clean. Evening meal was horrible and was sent back.
Review 54:Location was ideal for us and the breakfast was excellent
Review 55:Reported light over mirror in bathroom not working after we arrived. Still not fixed after two night stay. Mentioned it again when we booked out. Some wet paint on the staircase, but no warning notice at bottom of stairs. Another customer touched it just before we would have and warned us not to.
Review 56:Nice place with a good restraunt and the added bonus of a 24 hr garage outside.Note the location is not the best but it is ideal for a stop over on a trip.We were on a coast and castles cycle trip and the staff provided overnight safe storage for our bikes and were very pleasant.
Review 57:The lack of air conditioning in the rooms made sleeping uncomfortable!! The toast requested at breakfast often arrived in what we could only describe as coloured warm bread!! The sausage could also be improved in quality
Review 58:The hotel is situated within easy access of many attractions suitable for visitors looking to explore. The resteraunt and cafe menu was extensive and enjoyable
Review 59:It is a bit "out of the way" as inbetween towns, although on main road. Expensive taxi ride (£30 each way!) to get to nearest village/town as no taxis operate in area, thus meant drove to town and could not drink.
Review 60:Good size car park - Easy To Find as on main road. Breakfast good - reasonable restaurant menu (but def not the cheapest)
Review 61:Fire alarm went off at 6am. No apology or even mentioned to us when we got up for breakfast. Tables were sticky in breakfast room, we moved three times and gave up, they all were! Not worth the £80odd we paid in my opinion.
Review 62:Good location, staff were pleasent. Breakfast was average.
Review 63:The room was too warm.
Review 64:The rooms were too warm but comfortable and quiet considering the location. The evening meal was excellent and the staff fantastic.
Review 65:Bath let the room down. Bath panel had seen better days Needs ripping out
Review 66:Lovely bedroom great views across open fields to Bamburgh castle and FArne islands
Review 67:great location for Bamburgh Alnwick and the NE coastline. Good breakfasts and restaurant in the evening and a very attentive staff all at a reasonable price.
Review 68:Nothing negative at all
Review 69:The position the fact that we could bring our dog this is usually a problem there was no hassle parking . Overall all it was an extremely we'll run establishment and I cannot think of any negatives .
Review 70:The walls are very thin so you can hear surrounding guests.the beds are very small & bathroom in room 5 was pretty grotty, mouldy shower cubicle, dirty grout.the hotel corridors are very badly decorated giving the place a cheap feel.
Review 71:The view from the bedroom was fantastic.the breakfast was good even if there wasn't anyone to greet & seat you or explain the system.
Review 72:the bed was a bit too firm. we booked to stay whilst attending a wedding at Doxford Hall. Unfortunately we discovered it to be a bit further to the hall than we expected and we were unable to get a taxi to take us to the hall. another couple had booked a transfer from the lodge to the hall but the lodge had forgotten to book this and they too had trouble getting a taxi too. suggest you research and book well ahead if you need to get taxi.
Review 73:Bedrooms are at the back away from road so are quiet and we loved the lovely open view of cornfields from the bedroom window. not overlooked at all and lovely to watch the stars from the bed at night.
Review 74:We were a bit unsure when pulled into the truck stop...but the Lodge was welcoming, clean and of a high standard for an overnight stay. Room comfortably slept 3 and breakfast was a mix of help yourself and cooked to order, of high standard.
Review 75:Nothing bad to report!
Review 76:No problems with our 2 dogs staying in room- I requested a room nearest the end of the corridor so no passing guests to start them barking! This was adhered to as much as they could(other rooms already occupied). Breakfast would have been appreciated a little later- though all food- very good!
Review 77:We like to sleep in a cool room and found it to be too warm. It would be nice to be able to ventilate the room down to a desired temperature. We did crack the window open slightly which was good for that bed by it.
Review 78:The quietness despite the main road location and the rural view towards the coast, even being able to see Bamburgh castle. Being able to stay with your pet at no extra cost.
Review 79:Fire alarm went off twice during our stay and we were only here 2 nights, didn't seem to be anyone coordinating, just told by another guest that it was a false alarm!
Review 80:We had a meal during our stay, and this was very much above expectations, good choice of menu and good quality food, dining staff were brilliant as well.
Review 81:Fab breakfast with plenty of choice. Very efficient, friendly staff . Fresh flowers in vases and very clean . Bedroom and linen was spotless with views over fields towards bamburgh . Over all a very comfortable and relaxed stay .
Review 82:inevitable, approach over the patchy tarmac of the lorry park isn't a good introduction. From our point of view, the situation bang on the A1 wasn't ideal, but the view from our room over the fields was fine. We had just come from somewhere with a far larger selection of breakfast items, so felt the choice not good - more fruit for instance - but in fact only with you for 2 days & enjoyed both breakfasts we had -
Review 83:very clean, glad to have chairs in the room, pleased to have bath. Good about having any odd selection of items from the "full" breakfast
Review 84:Bathroom completely different from pictures online.
Review 85:Very good restaurant. We ate there on both evenings of our stay, and the food was extremely well presented. The Eyemouth hake was fantastic, and a feast for the eyes!
Review 86:The bed was a little soft, my partner fell out of bed during the night.
Review 87:Location, warm and cosy room. Good shower with hot water. Restaurant on site, good bar.
Review 88:Quite small rooms but we asked to move and staff obliged. So we had a family room which was much better
Review 89:Staff good. Bar service good and meals very acceptable.
Review 90:The shower did not work very well and there was mould around the bath. The locking system on the main door was awkward and took us a while to get the hang of
Review 91:When we first arrived my first thoughts were "oh no we're right on the A1 I'll never sleep with the noise" but I was wrong, our room was at the back and had views over fields to Bamburgh castle and Longstone lighthouse and we could not hear the traffic.
Review 92:Nothing to dislike really although breakfast was priced a little on the high side.
Review 93:Very friendly staff, comfortable room and clean bathroom. Only ate breakfast but the food was good.
Review 94:Bathroom a bit tired, grouting needed a good scrub. I would have liked more local foods on the menu.
Review 95:Lovely views from the bedroom. Room quiet and comfortable. Meals in restaurant better than expected, well presented, freshly cooked. Very convenient for Bamburgh, Seahouses and Holy Isle
Review 96:Had a really enjoyable stay
Review 97:Cosy and relaxing stay. Hard to get a taxi from though as it is a bit in the middle of nowhere! Staff were really nice and helpful
Review 98:IF pet-friendly, why has no-one thought that guests may want to dine and/or drink together? Regulation may well say that pets cannot be in the dining-room [nor the Bar?!?!], but not allowing a pet to be left alone in the room rather wrecks the evening for all concerned - until the pub/restaurant down the road hoves into view. That said, we prefer to trust our pet [as had been the case for the previous 4 nights in a 4* hotel], or pay for extra cleaning if necessary.
Review 99:Excellent location beside the A1, just South of Berwick, just North of Alnwick, very near Holy Island. Restaurant food is very good, but gassy beer rather takes the edge off that!
Review 100:Price plus extra for late checkout
Review 101:We booked this accommodation as we knew we could be late arriving. Due to traffic problems at the start of the journey we did not arrive until 3am . Paid extra for later checkout. Bit pricy at £85 for room only!
Review 102:The shower attachment in our room was the most oddly designed I've ever seen, was very low-powered, and the only temperatures I could get,try as I may, were cold/tepid, and Dangerously HOT !
Review 103:A handy base.Rooms clean and well equipped, but a little "dated". Appreciated the free wifi in all areas.Has it's own bar and decent restaurant.Staff friendly and very helpful. All rooms overlook the back of the hotel with a distant sea view(over fields) from the second floor.Despite being adjacent to the A1 there's little road noise from the rooms.
Review 104:On sunny days room was very warm, had to get windows unlocked by reception so a bit of a hassle
Review 105:Very friendly staff, great location and food available when I wanted it
Review 106:Absolutely nothing to complain about.
Review 107:Although on the A1 the room was very quiet with lovely open views & only a short drive away from the beautiful Northumberland coast & Alnwick. Breakfast was great & our one evening meal there was excellent.
Review 108:Only bad thing was the location but bit in the middle of know where but I guess there has got to be one somewhere!
Review 109:We very much liked our room, both the main room and the bathroom were a nice size and the view from the bedroom was lovely. Staff were friendly and helpful and food was good too!!
Review 110:The water was too hot, but we gave feedback and we received an extremely courteous email after our return home.
Review 111:Fabulous view across the fields to Banburgh Castle. Good restaurant.
Review 112:The entrance lets the place down. The carpets are grubby in the rooms and threadbare in places on the stairs. Although there have been attempts at painting it was poorly done.
Review 113:The evening meal was good
Review 114:Rooms were clean and well laid out ideal for us as a family, great views of Bamburgh castle and the coast from the windows, it was a great location for us to explore the Northumberland coast, the staff were very accommodating with our sons dietary requirements and helped us out were and when needed. Thank you we would love to come back when next holidaying in Northumberland
Review 115:Continental breakfast was poor. Only 1 choice of yoghurt and either cornflakes or museli. Plus no fruit, ham, cheese or eggs, or bread and butter to self serve like most B&Bs or hotels. Just toast or croissants, porridge but not help yourself.
Review 116:staff and room all great; friendly and very helpful; bed very comfortable.
Review 117:We had a first floor room and shower pressure struggled.
Review 118:Rooms had lovely views towards the coast and were clean and functional. Dinner in the restaurant was very enjoyable with good, friendly service.
Review 119:Although my husband got a wi fi connection on his app, I could not get a any response on my computer, not sure what the problem was and did try over the three days we were there but no joy, never mind, it did not spoil our stay.
Review 120:Central location and able to get an evening meal and a glass of wine on site at a reasonable price when you returned after a day out this was always served by friendly staff.
Review 121:The room was a sauna. It took a long time to get the temperature to anything under boiling. Quite an expensive stay for a hotel in the middle of no where.
Review 122:Clean and tidy room.
Review 123:Water pressure in shower needed a boost on 1st floor especially when there were several people using the bathrooms.
Review 124:The location was great for the Farne Islands birdwatching and Lindisfarne, also good for getting up to Edinburgh. Room was clean and tea making facilities were well stocked. The staff were very helpful. The breakfast was freshly cooked to order, with plenty of choice.
Review 125:The staff made our stay, they laughed along with us and nothing was too much trouble. They made our stay very happy and even reserved the same table for us in the dining room every night. The staff were also multi-skilled and were a credit to Purdy Lodge - thank you.
Review 126:Disturbed sleep due to Other inconsiderate noisy residents
Review 127:Excellent location with staff doing everything possible to make our stay pleasurable . Really good value for money .
Review 128:not a bad experience but not up to the usual standard due to the refurbishment. didn't spoil our stay.
Review 129:Purdy lodge is a place we use regularly and it suits our needs. the breakfast is always very good and sets us up for the rest of the day.
Review 130:We feel that this needs looking into. We stayed 6 nights, the bed clothes were not changed during that period and not made properly, so we had to strip the bed and make it before retiring. The shower was very weak.
Review 131:We loved the view from the bedroom window, which looked across the field and beyond that you could see the sea and of course Bamburgh Castle. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Unlike other reviews we thought the WiFi was excellent and free.
Review 132:Bed very hard . and on wheels so had to keep moving it back .
Review 133:Very clean .. Situated where needed for places we wanted to see .. Staff very attentive ..
Review 134:There was nothing I didn't like.
Review 135:Friendly, helpful staff; good food; plenty of parking; wonderful location - close the Holy Island (Lindisfarne), Bamburgh and the Northumberland coast in general.
Review 136:Stayed here twice now.Two nights each time. Excellent value for money, clean, all facilities are in the rooms which have views overlooking Bamburgh castle. A good base to explore the area.
The Fine Print
