Reviews for Westcliff Hotel
Review 1:It's not sound proof, our room was opposite the stairs :( ...... 3am people still going up and down. Please remove free-parking from web page ..... You can't count street parking it's misleading!
Review 2:It's got character !
Review 3:We liked everything, the room though described as "small" was more than adequate (we have stayed in smaller). The staff friendly and helpful and breakfast was enjoyable.
Review 4:The breakfast wasn't very good. The fried egg was solid and rubbery. The scrambled egg looked grey and unappetising. The rest of it was passable but at £12.95 was extremely poor value for money.
Review 5:Loved the convenience and location for Southend town centre and the view over the estuary was brilliant - the location was quiet and peaceful. Parking was on-street, where you could but was not a problem at this time of the year (December).
Review 6:We stayed in a junior executive suite with a spa bath overlooking the front. It was spacious, modern and clean. Had a very good night's sleep in a very comfortable bed. Iron & ironing board are supplied in the room which was useful. Excellent location for trips to the Cliffs Pavilion & close enough to walk into town.
Review 7:The wall between our room and the next was too thin ie when the room next door turned on their TV late at night we could hear it very clearly and it woke us up .
Review 8:The location is good , as it is only a 10/15 minute walk to Southend high street .
Review 9:Lovely hotel, right on the front so gorgeous views, very friendly and helpful staff, we had a small double which was more than large enough for the 3 of us and our son had enough space on the floor for his bed too as well as suitcases etc. gorgeous decoration too. Lovely stay indeed.
Review 10:The night porter left us and four other couples on the doorstep for 20minutes (12.30am) despite ringing the bell and hotel telephone. We hadto call a relative who was in bed to come and let us in. The room wascold and the duvet very thin.
Review 11:Room spacious, comfortable and clean. Breakfast was good.
Review 12:When we arrived back at the hotel at 1am the front door was locked. We rang on the telephone and it took around 15 mins for someone to let us in. It was so windy and rainy which made it very uncomfortable.
Review 13:As the mother of the groom we were to have complimentary room. There wasn't a room kept for us.
Review 14:Staff very good clean and helpful the wedding venue was lovely very tastefully done.
Review 15:Booked two superior doubles - one was just about ok but other tired and definitely not superior
Review 16:The sea view room although it needs upgrading to b a true superior room
Review 17:Shelf not secure in bedroom and fell off wall, when reported it was made to feel as though it was my fault. Bits of black plastic all over bathroom floor and in shower which I had to clean before use
Review 18:Bed comfortable, dinner ok
Review 19:Bed a bit soft but duvet too small for bed was the size of bed no overlap not good Plus travelled a long way to be told no hot food so had to go out in awful weather
Review 20:Room good size
Review 21:Only had 1 bath towel and 1 hand towel for a couple. The heating was off so the room was cold until I turned it on.
Review 22:It's easy to book in and the staff are friendly
Review 23:If it is a wedding night it can be noisy but the staff were very helpful and spoke to the DJ.
Review 24:The very Victorian feel. The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Easy to reach from the station.
Review 25:The room was very nice and had excellent views of the estuary. The staff were friendly and helpful. I have celiac disease, so can't gluten, and the staff were very helpful and accommodating.
Review 26:Only take a rear room if you like thundering boiler coming on and off incessantly. Single glazed louvre do Windows will enable you to hear the noise in full, though.
Review 27:Friendly staff
Review 28:No bad things, just a little niggle we were described as having paid for an executive room with four poster and spa bath. the room was lovely but it was only a little different from the other rooms we have stayed in there, the spa bath didnt work, and NO biscuits with the tea,,,
Review 29:Loved the room although it was not as described. bed was very comfy and lovely bathroom, sea view, when tide in! the staff found my purse and posted it to me straight away, well done Guys i was frantic , when i couldnt find it when i got home.
Review 30:slight problem with the jacuzzi bath and drinks were quite expensive.
Review 31:I booked four rooms as we had a family get together, all the rooms were large and comfortable with good facilities. The bar/lounge area was great for meeting up.
Review 32:Breakfast was disappointing. Buffet style, the food items had obviously been there for a long time, eggs congealed, bacon hard and only just warm.
Review 33:Room was very spacious and comfortable with great sea views. Evening meal excellent.
Review 34:Everything about this hotel is fabulous! From the gorgeous 4 poster bed & spa bath to lovely cooked breakfast and coffee! Would definitely stay again!
Review 35:In our room, around the pelmit of the curtians was lots of cobwebs So could of done with a good clean around the ceiling of bathroom also
Review 36:Great location, would stay again
Review 37:I didn't find anything that I didn't like about our stay.
Review 38:I stayed there with a friend, we had tickets to a show at the cliffs pavilion. We liked the convenience of having somewhere to stay so close. The staff were friendly and helpful when we had to change rooms as were given a double, when a twin had been booked.
Review 39:In a double room it would help to TWO bedside lamps, and lighting that could be controlled from the door.
Review 40:Convenient location, nice room, good breakfast, pleasant staff
Review 41:No fridge/mini bar
Review 42:Pleasantly surprised by room considering price! Will definitely stay again. Quite a walk from main shops but a walk down the sea front isn't all bad!
Review 43:As I walked into the hotel there was a very fusty smell, looking at the worn & tiered carpets I couldn't help think the smell was from the carpets and they needed a good clean. Room advertised as a junior suite, I would say it's more a standard hotel room, decor very tiered again quite fusty smelling. Also very noisy throughout the night early morning so didn't feel refreshed.
Review 44:The food actually surprised me, as it was a lot nicer than I thought it was going to be.
Review 45:The toiletries provided I should have thought included soap in the bathroom. It did not.
Review 46:It must be remembered that this hotel was built in Victorian times so is not ultra modern. However the staff were very pleasant and helpful especially as they were under staff and running from one job to another. The hotel is in an ideal position and the evening meal was good value for money.
Review 47:Disappointing little touches, sink tap loose, holes in ceiling where equipment removed, dust/cobwebs higher up wall
Review 48:View, spacious room, nice towels, good bar area, buffet breakfast
Review 49:Unfortunately you can only park on the street and you may not find space near the hotel. The only windows were facing the building next door, but we did not mind since we just used the room for the night.
Review 50:There was ironing board which was nice. The hotel shampoo smelled very good. Outstanding quality for money. I would visit again.
Review 51:There isn't a single thing that I can say that I was unhappy about
Review 52:I stay all over the country in b&b's & hotels, the room I stayed in was top notch, well worth the money & will without doubt be returning
Review 53:Paid more for a better room but when I've been before I've paid less for a cheaper room and it had a much better bathroom and better room
Review 54:Love the location, the staff are really friendly.
Review 55:Shower very slippery no slip mat. No herbal tea choice in room. No vegan option in restaurant , no cash taken at the bar after hours . Foul mouthed people in the bar , very very drunk , but no staff asked them to leave , which left us very uncomfortable and had to end our night much earlier than planned
Review 56:parking could be a problem as hotel not got own car park, as a disabled badge holder had more flexability but still difficult.
Review 57:was only 1 night so little difficult to review but staff very helpful and friendly
Review 58:there was air conditioning ducts outside the room that kicked into service noisely at about 4am not good when you are away for relaxing weekend
Review 59:It was great value for money , the staff pleasant very clean and nice big spacious room
Review 60:the room was small and dated and in need of revamp but well worth the money we paid for our stay the good outweighs the negative
Review 61:staff very helpful.. lovely sea view.. great location
Review 62:Shower head dripped all night which kept us awake. We did report that issue and received a refund of the breakfast charge. Breakfast was disappointing.
Review 63:Proximity to Cliffs Pavillion. Junior Executive Suite was spacious.
Review 64:Nothing to add
Review 65:How your colleagues recognised us from previous visits and made us very welcome. My mother and I visit your hotel 4/5 times a year and never fails to disoppoint us.
Review 66:the room (108) was above the kitchen & was very noisy due to the generator/extractor! the carpet was very stained, needs a good clean
Review 67:i liked the hotels victorian look & the location
Review 68:Parking wasn't great but after a few laps round area one came available quite close.
Review 69:Lovely Spa. And very comfy bed and pillows. Location good and friendly staff
Review 70:room was really worm even with the window open.
Review 71:the fact it was about a 10 min walk from the town centre and only 5 min down the hill to the beach. Beds wear comfy and the room had everything we needed
Review 72:could do with separate shower unit in bathroom and not over bath as most people have showers these days even older ones
Review 73:great the position of hotel friendly staff breakfast very good hotel nice and warm
Review 74:The bathroom was very dated with a mouldy window and a toilet which was crammed into a very tight space (almost an afterthought) the bed was very small compared to the overall size of the room and the view was of the neighbouring properties garden. Our room was at the back corner of the hotel at the end of a corridor so almost felt like we were shut away from the better half so to speak so not what we expected from a seafront hotel.
Review 75:He lobby was very cosy and had good decor and the location of the hotel in general was very nice.
Review 76:noise from neighbouring rooms was quite apparent.
Review 77:excellent staff very friendly and helpful. I left my phone when checking out and receptionist went out of her way to try to contact me.
Review 78:The room was comfortable and clean, however there was black mould in several areas of the bathroom.
Review 79:Location, friendly staff comfortable room and lovely breakfast.
Review 80:Evening meal service was good, but my seafood pasta was off and I was very poorly all night. Breakfast ok please work on the fried/scrambled eggs, not good.
Review 81:View and clean tidy. Lovely little hotel and value for area. Bedroom did have a side sea view and we were delighted. Staff lovely and very helpful, always a smile.
Review 82:The car park (or lack of) situation. We did request some more sugar for our room when we returned to the hotel at 10.30pm, we gave up waiting in the end and went to sleep as it didn't look like anyone was going to bring it up to us
Review 83:Very slight smell in room that disappeared as you got used to it.
Review 84:Very good location in Westcliff, about 15-20 mins walk from Southend centre. Helpful staff. Good restaurant. Would use again.
Review 85:Some packaged food in restaurant was almost 1 month out of date which needed to be brought to restaurant staff attention; obviously not been checked for a while . Room right next door to lift door very disturbing When paid for extra bed in room there were no extra provisions for 3rd person ie towels or tea/coffee ,or cup and saucer
Review 86:Location
Review 87:We could hear a noise from the water system all the time,it did effect getting to sleep
Review 88:Great staff, great location and clean and comfortable ,excellent views
Review 89:Executive Double Room Size of duvet too small for the 6ft bed Only 1 bedside table and lamp Only 1 bath towel and hand towel for 2 people Hanging wardrobe far too high with no door and only 3 shelf open unit No safe in room
Review 90:Sea view Cleanliness Bathroom
Review 91:Room 401 near the lift which was very noisy. Room wasn't great a little worn out.
Review 92:Staff very nice, breakfast wasn't too bad. Great views and close to the theatre.
Review 93:Bathrooms needed a bit updating. They tried to over charge me by £70. 3 adults in room with 2 cups and only 1 set of towels
Review 94:The hotel was beautiful. With lovely views
Review 95:We had to walk nearly a 1/4 of a mile with our cases as that was as near as we could get to park. The rooms look clean at first glance but actually need a good clean
Review 96:Staff were friendly Food was good
Review 97:Bathroom very cramped. Would be difficult for person of large build. Bath unnecessary for short term stay. Suggest replacing bath with shower stall. Toweling frayed around edges and very rough. Gave impression of cheapness. Wifi through Google not a secure system and difficult to access.
Review 98:Restaurant was clean and well managed. Hot food was hot and well presented.
Review 99:Lift very small, difficult with two cases. Advertises free parking but this is only on the road and very busy here, lucky to find a space nearby.
Review 100:Good location.
Review 101:It was too hot in the room though heating was off.
Review 102:Very early breakfast at 06:00 am possible due to a pleasant and helpful lady. Choice of coffee, tea, chocolate in the room. Close to Southend airport (less than £10 drive by taxi).
Review 103:Only bad thing, not an issue was our sink had a slight crack!
Review 104:Fantastic stay, friendly staff and a wonderful place. Our room was a Junior Exec, 4 poster, great view and Jacuzzi / Spa Bath. Clean and comfy, bed was great. I work in Hotels and can Highly recommend the Westcliff, breakfast was a lovely selection and extremely good!!
Review 105:Parking at this hotel is extremely bad. There is just street parking, and when it is a nice day or there is an event on at the nearby theatre it is almost impossible to find a parking space. Urgent efforts should be made to find some dedicated parking spaces.
Review 106:Felt breakfast could have been included for the price. Nonetheless there were places nearby to eat at reasonable cost. No on site parking but we found a space nearby and didn't need to move the car until we left.
Review 107:Lovely location between Southend and Leigh. Esplanade walk was beautiful and relaxing. Hotel was a perfect base. Even with a wedding on during our stay there was no undue noise or inconvenience.
Review 108:Thought breakfast was expensive at £12.95 per person for a buffet breakfast.
Review 109:Staff very welcoming and helpful. Room and bed comfortable and clean. Quiet location above cliffs but within easy reach of seafront.
Review 110:room and bed were small. breakfast was gone at 10.01 (c'mon leave it out for an extra 15mins), bit on the expensive side
Review 111:convenient location, friendly staff
Review 112:Main shower wasn't fantastic. Bed was very rickety and squeaky and mattress was very tired.
Review 113:Location was very convenient for where we were going. Friendly staff. We had a room with double exposition windows and a view of the sea front, which was lovely.
Review 114:We had an evening meal on our first night, my husbands meal was terrible. It consisted of a piece of frozen swordfish on white rice, no colour or flavour at all. The breakfast had sat keeping warm for quite some time, the bacon was awful, the eggs were like rubber and the hash browns were so bad we had to leave them. We left a sign on our bedroom door for our room to be refreshed, no-one arrived so by 12.30 we phoned down for some clean towels and cups etc. We eventually got 2 people who knocked on the door to clean, upon opening the door I was greeted with the comment ' oh, you are here, we have been told you want the room cleaned, we have been too busy' one member of staff was very rude and unfriendly. This was such a shame as the hotel overall was great, however, this has put us off visiting you again.
Review 115:We had the estuary suite which was fantastic, the room and bed was superb
Review 116:Meal in restaurant could have been hotter and restaurant manager was rather abrupt !!
Review 117:Lovely seaviews and excellent location for shows at Cliffs Pavillion
Review 118:We had a towel removed on the 1st night, had to request a replacement, which never arrived. Our room was tiny. We were not asked in advance if we would mind a 'petite' room.
Review 119:The lounge and bar areas were comfortable.
Review 120:The carpet, although clean, was very scruffy. The bed headboad should definitely be replaced.
Review 121:Comfortable, good location. Size of room and bathroom.Very good breakfast.
Review 122:Staff were excellent really helpful and polite, room was nice and clean and hotel was so close to the seaside. Would stay again. Only thing I would say is that the lift is extremely small but its a beautiful old building
Review 123:The excellent location in a quiet road wonderful view of the Thames estuary. Only a few minutes walk from the centre of Southend. Free on street parking.
Review 124:Parking! we were told that there was no parking at the hotel but that there is plenty of free parking along the roads near the hotel. We had to do several laps of the area before we could find somewhere to park.
Review 125:Staff very friendly and polite.
Review 126:I liked the size of the room and the location, we were given a top floor room with a view of the sea which was lovely. I would say that I had a very comfortable stay and felt very welcomed by all members of staff.
Review 127:Room needs updating & no parking outside the hotel was further up & you would have to pay which if you are staying overnite works out expensive. A bit to far of the beaten track if you were going into South end itself.
Review 128:Hotel was nice staff were pleasant and very helpful.
Review 129:Our room was not clean. Fresh towels not always available. Booked for 8 nights no drawer space and only 4 hangers in wardrobe. Staff smile a lot but do nothing to help.
Review 130:Location and the style of building was what I hoped for. Comfortable communal areas.
Review 131:Thin walls so a bit noisy, blood stains on bed sheets, pillows and duvet. breakfast was minimal but hot. Lift out of order over the weekend so had to walk up lots and lots of stairs - not very helpful with my condition and age.
Review 132:Good location, good size bedroom.
Review 133:We had an amazing time staying in this hotel. Room was beautiful and clean with a fantastic sea view. Service was brilliant and fast. Can't wait to visit again
Review 134:The only negatives were some cracked tiles in bathroom, a broken lift and some areas in need of refreshing within the hotel.
Review 135:The customer service during the stay was exceptional, all the staff had a positive attitude. The room service menu and the food delivered was good. The hotel bar has a range of drinks at reasonable prices and the buffet breakfast was good too.
Review 136:Wifi is intermittent and parking is a nightmare as it is all on street parking and not much around hotel.
Review 137:Great hotel, rooms very spacious and fantastic sea views. Staff friendly and hotel in great location.
