Reviews for Hotel Notre Dame

Review 1:Mosquitoes in room (6, but only 1 survived!). Breakfast was very basic, and limited.

Review 2:Convenient; lovely staff. Nice room; excellent (new) bathroom facilities. Easy walk from town.

Review 3:We had such a short stay that there was nothing that we didn't like.

Review 4:We loved this hotel. It felt cared for and in turn we felt very well looked after. The owner was very friendly and helpful. Our family bedroom was perfect. We ate our dinner in the garden (takeaway pizzas, wine and orangina) and it felt so relaxed and comfortable. A somewhat sleepy town but if you happen to be there then the Hotel Notre Dames is a safe bet.

Review 5:I have stayed at this hotel several times over the past 10 years and always enjoyed the quiet location and friendly staff. Best of all is the lovely large enclosed garden at the rear of the property. This is my favourite hotel in Valenciennes and always my first choice to stay when I visit. My ground-floor room this year overlooked the garden - which was delightful! As a frequent business traveller I also appreciated the very spacious room and extremely comfortable bed. There are a number of nice local restaurants and shops nearby and the interesting 'Old Town' area is just a short walk away.

Review 6:There was no shower curtain or screen and shower head was fixed quite low resulting in getting water everywhere, used one of the towels to cover our toiletries. Liked the garden but table clothes looked a bit the worse for ware, maybe due to the bad weather the week before. Both easy to fix and would not stop us staying again

Review 7:Nice Hotel good location close to the old town and café's restaurants and shops.Very helpful staff and room clean and comfortable. A good breakfast selection of hot and cold buffet. We were touring on motorcycles and receptionist kindly allowed us to but them securely in the Hotel garage which was great. Would stay again.

Review 8:This pleasant hotel is very well located in the 'Old Town' area in easy reach of the main shopping and business areas. The management and staff are very friendly and helpful. My room was very large and comfortable. The hotel has a garden - which is a relaxing place to unwind after a busy day. I will definitely stay here again.

Review 9:Quite poor with parking spaces around the hotel. Some staff members were nonchalant.

Review 10:Very nice room with old wooden floors and stained glass windows. Modern bathroom and comfortable bed. Great, calm location in town, but yet only a few minutes walk to shopping and restaurants.

Review 11:Location close to main square and centre. Friendly staff. Lovely garden. Quiet location.

Review 12:nothing to report

Review 13:5 mins to restaurants and shops. 24 hour reception. Convenient private parking within 2 mins of hotel.

Review 14:Excellent location. We had a pretty room with beautiful stained glass windows (nouveau art). Good restaurants in walking distance.

Review 15:Very close to town centre. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good choice at breakfast.

Review 16:Great value for money. Clean & comfortable, lovely garden, central location between city centre and the park!

Review 17:None

Review 18:Simple lovely hotel all your needs and staff informative and warm/friendly. Will stay again x

Review 19:No air conditioning. Very basic, tired room

Review 20:Handy to town centre. Staff pleasant, spoke a little English. Free wifi.

Review 21:The newer part of the hotel, where our room was located, lacks inspiration, is outdated and has small rooms with small windows. The difference between the much nicer old building and the new wing is far too big.

Review 22:The location of the hotel is perfect. The patio garden is full of flowers and a perfect place for enjoying breakfast.

Review 23:everything was nice, from the placemant of the hotel to the parking, staff and room. i would recommend this hotel for the care it has for the visitors and the superb design of the rooms.

Review 24:Great to be able to find a hotel with a quad room in a good location. Breakfast was really good. Comfy beds. Nice to find somewhere with some character.

Review 25:Room was extremely small and parking is a bit of a problem as only parking meters in near proximity.

Review 26:Location is right in the center of town. Plenty of shops and great restaurants within walking distance. Good continental breakfast.

Review 27:The room was in full afternoon sun and could be hot in the summer. Itwas not a problem for us as the evening cooled down.

Review 28:The location was excellent for a stop over. We parked right outside thehotel and paid €1.40 per hour but only until 1830 hrs as it was freeafter that, and until 0930 in the morning. We could walk to the citycenter in 5minutes. The manager/owners were very helpful andwelcoming. We enjoyed sitting in the courtyard with a glass of wine. Themanagers/owners recommended a restaurant for dinner (L'Escargot)and it was excellent. We would stay here again.

Review 29:Shower fitting not height adjustable

Review 30:Atmosphere, individuality, location, staff, breakfast, large, comfortable bed, room size, very quiet. Would recommend to others.

Review 31:Ancient bathroom - but clean. No lift.

Review 32:Helpful reception staff, located by the cathedral, parked right by the door. Big room overlooking hotel courtyard garden, very quiet. Slept like a log in large comfy bed. Ate a meal at L'Escargot Restaurant in main square, typical French surroundings & cuisine. Tried La Langue Luculus recomended by the hotel receptionist. A local delicacy made from tongue and foie gras. I enjoyed it but not to everyone's taste. Had a lovely raspberry tarte dessert. Nice clean old town with historic buildings.

Review 33:disapointing breakfast (dry bread, cheeses and eggs not really fresh)

Review 34:cosy hotel not that expensive staff really nice confortable rooms and beds i recommand it

Review 35:The staff puts the garden furniture out at 5:30 in the morning. This was our daily wake up call. We were in a non-smoking room but probably had smokers all around us because we could smell cigarettes every morning.

Review 36:All the rooms are different. The garden is great.

Review 37:Breakfast coffee from a push button machine.

Review 38:The central position, friendly staff, good breakfast, quiet location andinteresting building conversion of an old convent. Our room 14 wassmall, circa 12m2, presumably due to the reduced rate, but had a modernbathroom with a very powerful shower and a comfortable bed. Other rooms, portrayed on a screen in reception, are much bigger. We were juststaying overnight, before travelling further the next day, accordinglywe weren't really bothered by the small room. Breakfast can be taken inthe beautiful garden in summer. On booking we requested a parking spacein the hotel's locked car park, which was well worth the extra 5 euros.

Review 39:Parking was very difficult and costly close by but a short walk away is cheaper parking around a tree lined park. No tea-making kit in the room.

Review 40:Old appearance outside with delightful walled garden . Rooms were a clever combination of contemporary decor complementing the original features of the building. Excellent restaurants nearby recommended by the receptionist.

Review 41:no water boiler in the room, not convenient for the baby. No airco. Next to the street, noisy during the night.

Review 42:The staff are very helpful. location is excellent. room space is good. Breakfast can be better but worth for the money.

Review 43:There was a fair amount of street noise below our room. We were luckyand found a place to park right in front of the hotel, however, had thatspace not opened up as we arrived, parking would have been a challenge.

Review 44:The hotel staff was very friendly during check-in and check-out. Our family-sized hotel room was spacious, with 1 double bed and 2 twin-sized beds. The room was clean and well-decorated.

Review 45:Hotel Notre Dame is the place to stay in Valenciennes. The staff is very friendly and courteous, smiling, helpful. I was impressed by the large size of the room, the bathroom and the bed, with a beautiful view of the cathedral across the street. The room and hotel are very tidy, and the breakfast buffet is good. The hotel is situated within easy distance from the train station and shops. In my experience, this hotel offers excellent value for the price, and I highly recommend it.

Review 46:No private parking. The public parking around the hotel is paid and it's for a maximum of 4 hours only (except evenings and Sunday). I don't mind paying a reasonable fee, but the 4 hour limit is not really practical for a hotel stay.

Review 47:Nice staff and clean rooms

Review 48:Vinyl floor

Review 49:Surrounding atomsophere of the town, especially the church in front of the hotel. Breakfast, friendly staff, and private garden.

Review 50:Good hotel for a good price

Review 51:Very small bar with no real choice of drinks if you want to relax at the hotel

Review 52:Great central position, good local restaurants

Review 53:Limited parking

Review 54:Good location, good value, nice staff, nice room

Review 55:Staff is really kind; breakfast is good. Value for money: the highest in Valenciennes.

Review 56:Nothing

Review 57:Fine for a one night stay to visit friends Breakfast not included but was nice and included some hot food

Review 58:nothing to dislike

Review 59:We only stayed for one night but could not fault this hotel .

Review 60:Very hot room, even in winter

Review 61:Large room, flat screen TV, wifi

Review 62:Cold bathroom

Review 63:Friendly staff.

Review 64:No tea/coffee making facilities in room, room was far too hot

Review 65:Large room
