Reviews for Malmaison Dundee

Review 1:Tap over sink in bathroom overhangs the basin making it difficult to wash in. Would have like full length mirror in bedroom area instead of bathroom. Additional lighting as room was quite dark.

Review 2:The facilities in the room and the use of space. Great view from bedroom window.

Review 3:Nothing not to like !

Review 4:Everything ! Stayed here last year and had a fabulous room. This year we got a great deal so did not expect the same room, but we did :) x

Review 5:The room was very spacious and clean. The bed was very comfortable, big pillows!! The shower was very nice and modern. The food at the restaurant was very good. The staffs were very helpful. Location was very good near the train station, town centre and university.

Review 6:Parking was a problem. You could park in front of the hotel and getting a ticket was the best bet but nobody told me before arriving.

Review 7:Central location, very different from the run of the mill hotels.

Review 8:No complaints

Review 9:Arrived early morning and room was ready. Staff very helpful room comfortable and spacious though perhaps a bit more lighting would be good! Breakfast delicious

Review 10:Nothing at all

Review 11:Staff were excellent. Was given a complimentary upgrade to a super suite which was way beyond expectations. Night away was for partner's 40th birthday so to be given this was a real bonus. Breakfast was also excellent.

Review 12:Drinks in the bar a little expensive.and parking can be a bit of a nightmare.

Review 13:The location of thr hotel is well positioned for getting into the centre of the city and the decor is really lovely. Enjoyed the two night stay very much.

Review 14:Car parking rediculous why do you not have a reciprocal agreement with the Council,I received a parking ticket at 8am in the morning.........in this day and age this is crazy!!!!!!

Review 15:Upgraded at no extra charge.

Review 16:We were kept awake until 2am from the pub downstairs with music very loud, when I contacted reception they came to our room with two sets of ear plugs, not what I was expecting, We stay in the malmason hotels a lot, But can't say I am to impressed with Dundee.

Review 17:Service in the Malbar and restaurant was very slow, Lighting is so dim in the Malbar it's actually gloomy, and a bit chilly too, doesn't make you inclined to linger, Noise from MacDaniels pub outside is dreadful at 1am ish with shouts/screams and brawls- entertaining but not great for sleep, and standard doubles and twins and really small rooms, (318 and 319) Staff perfunctory rather than welcoming,- seemed a little jaded.

Review 18:Hotel decor was lovely, food was good,

Review 19:a spa would have been a great addition as would a car park. Also not sure what happened to the home made granola at breakfast - none to be seen

Review 20:the food is excellent

Review 21:Bar layout poor and odd on multiple levels, with claustrophobic and uncomfortable seating, exposed ducting and pipework looks tacky. Loud music with excessive bass response. NO CAR PARK!

Review 22:Excellent room and bathroom, great river views. Excellent breakfast.

Review 23:Being SCAMED and having to pay twice and still waiting to here back from YOU about this matter. I rang from the Malmaison spoke to Debra re the scam, requested an email and 5 days later still nothing from YOU.

Review 24:The hotel and the area it was in

Review 25:£5 cocktails advertised all over the website for the nights we were there and it was falsely advertised as we got hit with a full price bill, the only answer we got off the staff was "Yeah that offer hasn't happened and isn't happening" then they just snuck off... Felt a little mistreated and confused after this.

Review 26:Everywhere we wanted to go was no less than a ten minute walk from the hotel, bathroom was a delight and the bed was big and comfortable.

Review 27:Food very over priced, staff on reception were good with me but less helpful with others who were checking in. Seems to be a disparity between info from central reservations telephone line and info given out at reception.

Review 28:Beautiful room

Review 29:We were only staying one night :)

Review 30:The room was spacious and most comfortable. The bathroom facilities were fab! A bath and shower and the design and decor was lovely.

Review 31:The view from our room not good..... but wee did get a great deal on 4 night stay

Review 32:Love this hotel location is perfect breakfast lovely room comfortable

Review 33:Wasn't expecting much since we were staying on boxing day. Rooms were extremely clean and the staff were super friendly. Will be staying again if I ever visit Dundee again. 10/10

Review 34:Some spa facilities would be good, even an agreement with a local company to come into the hotel to provide massages perhaps?

Review 35:Our suite was lovely - the bathroom was amazing and the 'tv room' with the round sofa was fab. Also liked the sweeties on the desk and the nespresso machine

Review 36:Rooms very dark deco and parking council car park which reception never had much information on it

Review 37:The service was very good and staff looked after us very well

Review 38:The overall environment was quite plush and relaxing. The staff were friendly and helpful and made our stay more enjoyable. I would definitely use Malmaison again,

Review 39:Absolutely disappointed with the over night experience. I appreciate it is Xmas however the noise from the Xmas party was horrendous within the room. We were unable to get to bed until 1am. It was as if the base was doubled from 12am. The music was as loud and clear as if I was playing it within the room.we had decided to stay over as a relaxing luxury break and were both exhausted on our return home. Having stayed several previous times I am disappointed with the hotel and unsure that we will be returning

Review 40:Room,location and staff were great on arrival.

Review 41:no parking, the service through the hotel was fantastic but the time it took for the coctails to be served was a little too long we only had time for one due to how long they took

Review 42:we liked the style and the price and the location was fantastic

Review 43:The rooms were beautiful very homely. Beds extremely comfortable. Bathroom very modern and fresh. Clean and spacious. Staff friendly, polite and helpful. Couldn't fault my stay here. A little expensive but in the end well worth the money.

Review 44:The staff were very friendly, helpful and professional. Especially Emma the receptionist- a credit to your hotel. The room was clean, comfortable and great value.

Review 45:Hard rustle bed linen. Getting woken up with a ring of the phone at 4.10 am then again 10 mins later. complained in the morning which they said they would look into it and disappointed nobody has contacted to give an explanation as i didn't get back to sleep for sometime.

Review 46:perfect central location. Nice, clean and modern. Close to station.

Review 47:I had the best nights sleep I had had in a long time! The bed was marvellously comfortable and around it was a lovely stay. I'll be staying in the malmaison any chance I can get.

Review 48:Queuing. Overpriced food. Poorly trained bar staff

Review 49:One member of staff on at reception whilst there was a que to check in. Poor quality and overpriced food. Room looked tired and needed so attention

Review 50:The room heating and fan controls were not easy to understand or alter. The management of table service could have removed empty tea pots and replaced them more quickly as with clutter of used plates as more diners arrived.

Review 51:Good ambience and excellent attention by staff

Review 52:Felt background music in bar & dining areas was too loud. Would have liked more light in rooms. Had a problem getting in and out of bath with my creaky hip.

Review 53:The comfort, quiet rooms. No sound from corridors or adjoining rooms. No traffic noise from outside.

Review 54:Didn't like the PEEP form for the deaf/HoH as it is too complication and too much information. They had a fire alarm rung out at 6.00 am but there were 12 deaf guests who didn't hear the fire alarm - . The hotel asked me to teach them about deaf awareness/basic sign language in 90 minutes before the deaf guests arrived - but they were asked me for help to communicate with the deaf guests - they need more training and get the equipment to alert the deaf guests.

Review 55:The hotel was beautiful, clean and close to the city centre

Review 56:No clear directions at bottom of stairs to reception to stop you climbing up. Receptionist so busy trying to be friendly forgot to tell us how to get to our room. No bath only shower.

Review 57:Very comfortable bed

Review 58:Waited 30 mins for breakfast and the black pudding was gritty, dry and not very good quality. The eggs benefict's bacon had dried out and the muffin was tough

Review 59:Very helpful staff

Review 60:Too loud at night creeking floors to warm or too cold couldn't open windows

Review 61:Couldn't sleep all night only thing good about it was staff were nice

Review 62:The coffee bag arrangement in the room is a a bit of a fiasco. Much better to have a coffee machine. There was space in our room for at least a second chair and we could have done with it.

Review 63:The staff were superb. The room was large and shower was really good. It was a blissfully quiet room which we had asked for.

Review 64:The table we sat at for dinner had a view of the kitchen doors and I didnt really like being seated close to the open style kitchen. Also stayed in room 203 which is user freindly for wheelchair users. The fixed shower head however for use by others sprayed water across the floor of the bathroom.

Review 65:The cocktails were good and the bar staff friendly. Food was 8/10 and the hotel has an excellent location.

Review 66:Absolutely nothing, cannot fault this place at all.

Review 67:Fantastic cocktails, wonderful rooms and the superb staff...cannot fault what is easily the best place to have a few drinks and overnight stay in Dundee right now. Breakfast was perfect, service as always second to none and nothing was ever any trouble for the staff. Would recommend to anyone looking to experience the best Dundee has to offer, care free and luxurious. Looking forward to returning in the not too distant future.

Review 68:The chairs and tables were dirty in both the bar and the breakfast area. Most chairs were velvet and hadnt been cleaned in ages, one even had a sticky red stain substance on it which stuck to my shirt an left a big mark.

Review 69:The Malmaison looked fantastic and the receptionists were great to welcome us at short notice

Review 70:Room was not cleaned up though maid saw us leaving the room. When returning back and asking for cleanup we then found our pyjamas on the floor. Patient complain at reception desk (twice) only caused reluctance of staff but no further reaction or apology. The staff does not seem to be customer- or service-oriented.

Review 71:Central location. Nice hotel facilities.

Review 72:Your elevators are so slow I felt I was waiting forever to go up and down. Also staff have to use guest lifts and sometimes you couldn't get in for their trolleys. Not their fault, as you obviously didn't put separate lifts in for them. A design fault

Review 73:A lovely clean room with very comfortable bed and lovely shower

Review 74:Breakfast was poor, burnt bacon, cold plates and a £2.00 supplement was added for the cooked breakfast

Review 75:Staff were excellent. Club room was stunning and spotless.

Review 76:The rooms are fairly dark, but that is the theme of the hotel, however, would happily stay here again.

Review 77:Location to the train station and some nice bars and restaurants - the Wine Press and Rancho Pancho.

Review 78:We didn't have breakfast as it was very expensive. They could turn down the heating a little

Review 79:Friendly professional staff great location. Quite and very comfortable we would definitely stay here again.

Review 80:No car parking for the actual hotel. You have to make sure that you've paid a ticket so that your car doesn't get a fine from 08:00. Entrance that is easier for luggage carrying is not obvious.

Review 81:The adaptation of a traditional "grand" hotel.

Review 82:Great location in city centre close to train station and with a public car park right opposite the hotel. Quick, easy and friendly check in. Well stocked fridge/mini bar in room. Spotlessly clean. Fabulous bathroom. Loved the original grand staircase in the hotel. Couldn't fault the place at all.

Review 83:Continental breakfast was very disappointing and we ended up upgrading to a hot breakfast

Review 84:Nice rooms (even though they are not level), good location, friendly staff

Review 85:Had a room at the front of the hotel and the traffic was a wee bit noisy. My breakfast was also cold unfortunately but this would not stop me from staying again as the lovely rooms made up for this.

Review 86:Lovely room and really helpful staff. Really tasty steaks in the restaurant and the bar and restaurant had a lovely atmosphere and opulent decor. A treat!

Review 87:Parking problematic but paid space available nearby . Only saw one lift working while there - also used by staff / cleaners. Resulted in delays when heading for rooms on higher floors .

Review 88:Good central location for town center shopping . .

Review 89:I couldn't fault it

Review 90:We booked Malmaison as an extra to prolong our weekend away and I upgraded to a suite as a surprise for my husband. The suite was stunning, double shower, roll top bath, massive bed and a separate TV room with a circular sofa. The bathroom products were the highest quality as were the robes and slippers. The staff were very friendly and great fun. Would definitely go again- FABULOUS !!!

Review 91:Cost of cocktails and breakfast? Check your bill when checking out as our friends drinks and breakfast had put out on our bill by mistake. There bill was considerably wrong also....

Review 92:Cocktails and Breakfast?

Review 93:No towels in en-suite and only one set in wardrobe. Reception staff giving details of hotel facilities at very high speed during signing in document completion Reception staff completely ignoring existing guests passing by the desk; no good mornings etc.

Review 94:Clean room well laid out Roomy en-suite with adequate shelving

Review 95:Absolutely nothing... everything great.

Review 96:Lovely hotel, great location just within walking distance of the town centre. Great staff, couldn't fault a thing.

Review 97:Our toilet kept filling up of water at 1am! We phoned reception & they told us it often happens and to flush small button again..They also phoned the room back to see if it needed fixed or not.

Review 98:The friendliness of the staff.

Review 99:breakfast often very slow, and that was just getting a coffee (I had the continental help yourself buffet); slow to refill continental breakfast items too, especially plates/bowls

Review 100:convenient for conference free wifi

Review 101:The hotel was amazing and ideal location. The staff were very friendly and helpful, they even posted us our childs cuddly toy, which we had left behind, much to our great relief. The room was extremely clean, even the travel cot which was also a good size, this being very different to our previous experiences in other accomodation. We didnt have any complaints about noise disruption, but then we were there on a monday evening. we would definately recomment this hotel.

Review 102:Chose to eat in restaurant as we were looking forward to the special that was advertised only to find one component of the meal was not available. Surely they were aware of this and could have rectified it thro day

Review 103:The rooms were very warm and comfortable but better lighting by a mirror would have been appreciated

Review 104:I needed (Saturday) breakfast at 7.00 am and was told it didn't open until 8.00. Even the Premier Inn does better. The dinner was expensive, but it was basic ingredients with frills. Sirloin steak at fillet prices, but no fillet on the menu. And the marketing to couples was distastefully overt. Some people actually don't stay in hotels for a "romantic break", and might not want to be reminded, even on the minibar menu, that they aren't having one!

Review 105:The bed and pillows. Beautifully comfortable

Review 106:Breakfast was terrible and took over half an hour to come. For a large city centre based hotel, not to have any parking or concessions for parking is incredible.

Review 107:Upgraded to a suite, which was lovely however shower was blocked. We reported this before our evening meal but were just left more towels to replace those we had used to deal with the flood. When I called reception to complain we were offered a bottle of drain unblocker! Ok for a Travelodge but not for Mal!

Review 108:fabulous location.

Review 109:The meal in the restaurant was awful and the service was very slow and poor.

Review 110:The room was comfortable if just a little dark however new pillows are required as they were very hard and uncomfortable.

Review 111:Lunch was booked for 8 people. Service was shockingly bad, half the menu wasn't available and food was substituted without even being informed after ordering. One reply from this comment was priceless - 'Excuse me, this isn't what I ordered' ... 'Yes, it's something else' and then the waitress walked away. Also, the hotel booked us return taxis to a wedding venue in the countryside but the return taxis never showed up. We were left completely stranded miles from anywhere. Managed to get in contact with the taxi company who informed us that the hotel had not booked the return even though the Taxi company knew this would be required. The taxi company even phoned the hotel later at night to ask if we needed a return and the receptionist told them 'no' Note: Hotel was clean, comfortable, in a good location but I had to change the rating just to get a poor score indicated for the incredibly poor customer service

Review 112:Great location, very near train station and town centre. Comfortable beds and nice large rooms

Review 113:Only thing was the room was so warm. We out the fan on and had it on most of the night but had trouble getting to sleep as the room was very warm.

Review 114:Location is great and staff all very friendly.

Review 115:For £100 a night we were given a box room at the back of the hotel which provided no natural light as it faced other rooms in the hotel. As the room is decorated in dark colours the lighting should have been warmer and brighter but instead it was harsh spotlights. I think the hotel should also provide parking as we kept having to top up the car parking across the road during our stay.

Review 116:The staff were friendly on check in and the building itself was lovely. I have eaten at the restaurant on a previous stay which has very good food in a nice setting.

Review 117:Breakfast @£31 for two people I would have expected a higher quality !

Review 118:Accommodation was lovely, great value for money. Breakfast was very disappointing, tasteless and over cooked.

Review 119:Breakfast service was terribly unorganised, other tables were also complaining My colleague waited so long for her breakfast to arrive that she then had to leave most of it. A pity as the rest of my stay was marvellous.

Review 120:The building and the decor was splendid. The complimentary toiletries were also very good.

Review 121:Nothing

Review 122:Excellent location in the city centre. We had a very comfortable night in a good size room. The building itself is impressive. The brasserie is cosy and inviting. Parking was easy outside as it was a Saturday night but there is a big car park nearby.

Review 123:Lack of certain required facilities - such as exhaust fan in bathroom, hair dryer,. Chaotic street conditions making access to hotel most difficult. Definitely over priced and not good value for money

Review 124:Location in city center

Review 125:Size of room everything seemed squeezed in , lack of space to put clothes from case.

Review 126:Presentation of room , facilities in room Services available , nice comfy bed.

Review 127:Too hot, no AC volume, TV fixed at a strange angle to the bed, no lighting or adequate mirror for make-up. Sloping creaky floors and bed was sloped on one side very little sleep and experienced very srange noises and events during the night - not for the faint hearted.

Review 128:Beautifully clean room

Review 129:Small room with nowhere comfortable to sit. Bathroom basin wouldn't hold water and was poorly lit so wet shaving was a trial. Public areas chilly and you couldn't escape Radio 2.

Review 130:Location

Review 131:Table in the restaurant was freezing, I had to wear my overcoat through dinner. Sharing stake was an incredible piece of eat which had been so over seared it was difficult to eat it. Room heating stayed on all night so we had to use the air-con to balance it which was noisy.

Review 132:Staff were helpful

Review 133:Nothing really bad, would have preferred an ensuite with choice of bath/shower. When looking at the menu for the Brasserie, we had a cursory comment from one of the restaurant staff. So we decided to go elsewhere for dinner. Rooms were a little dark, even in the morning, before checking out, we nearly left some items.

Review 134:The hotel was in a good location within walking distance of everything required. Nice room and bathroom. Good standard of accommodation, staff friendly on reception, couldn't fault check in or check out.

Review 135:Arr.about 2 pm.Registered.offered and acc.an upgrade week before. Not given one.Small dark noisy with disco at night room.No mention made of time limit to offload.10mins approx.taken and given a ticket for same £60/30.Mnager thought it was amusing he had never had a patron in this position.could do nothing about it.

Review 136:Our visit to the Dundee Rep was worthwhile and made the trip a plus. Offload does not give a time.My wife cannot drive. When I asked about parking I was told I could offload and register. Not given a time by the hotel staff.

Review 137:Having to go down to reception at 5am to wake up night porter to order room service and finding full menu not available, toasties only

Review 138:Room was very comfortable and clean, dinner in restaurant excellent, plus good wine recommendation

Review 139:Parking - is an covered public car park across from the hotel. Card reader in car park did not work. Could be a pain if the weather is bad or if there are no spaces in car park. Expensive snacks in the room.
