Reviews for The Curious Pig in the Parlour
Review 1:Great place to stay for an early flight from Gatwick... Sooooo much nicer than a big corporate style hotel. Food is excellent, staff very welcoming. Ample parking and easy access to airport. Very happy to have found it on Booking.com
Review 2:Room was over-heated with no visible way to lower the temperature. Reception told us on arrival that breakfast ended an hour later than actual, so we missed out on that.
Review 3:Delightfully quirky, lovely restaurant and pub, friendly staff and comfortable room. Loved the creative decor - look at all the tables in the restaurant, and pigs from all perspectives :-) Apart from the room heat issue, everything else was clean, high quality, and very cosy.
Review 4:The only criticism would be that there were not enough mirrors in our room. I had to dry my hair without being able to see what I was doing. There were no sockets near the only mirror. I didn't look too good that morning - it was the beginning of a bad hair day!
Review 5:We loved the quirkiness of this hotel. It was tastefully decorated with a mixture of antique furniture and fittings with sparkling modern bathing facilities and a comfortable bed.
Review 6:Room a bit small. Food on the expensive side, but may just be the location.
Review 7:Nicely presented room, quirky pig inspired decor, fluffy towels and robes. Continental breakfast included in the room rate.
Review 8:Hot water took forever to arrive, and even when it did it was only lukewarm. Bathroom decoration was a little tired and obviously things had had to be repaired or altered, however the making good of decoration was very poor. Prices for drinks on the high side.
Review 9:Good food & buzzing restaurant, helpful friendly staff, comfortable room, fast WiFi
Review 10:One quibble. Reception isn't always manned and door is kept locked. We had to knock loudly and wait for some time. After first time we had a key but not a great impression upon arriving after a long journey.
Review 11:Lovely friendly staff.
Review 12:Room was a little dark Bed was very firm - Good for you back though! Extractor fan in bathroom didn't work
Review 13:Friendly and helpful staff at reception and the attached bar. Great food in the bar Fun, quirky and non-serious theme (Pigs!) Modern and nicely decorated rooms Lots of soft and fluffy towels available Breakfast included in price
Review 14:The rooms are clean, comfortable and have everything we need. We stay here several times a year and it's always a pleasure. Food is really good and price is reasonable, no matter what time we arrive there is always a table.
Review 15:Nothing!
Review 16:The food is incredible, excellent chef, very good every meal. The staff were very friendly, helpful and well presented. Had a problem with the room (broken bath) and were moved immediately to an upgraded room. They didn't mind is taking our own food/ drink back to our room and even provided plates and cutlery which is unusual as most places want you to eat and drink exclusively in their restaurant. Staff always available.
Review 17:Lighting in room was a little dim
Review 18:Staff and service were excellent Food was very tasty and top quality Rooms very clean well presented and comfortable
Review 19:The rib-eye steak in the restaurant did not live up to the menu description of how it would be prepared. Very average. Personally I don't think it was cooked as described. I've never had 3 X fried chips before and I won't be having them again either. Chunky chips are the answer to this one.
Review 20:The staff were super helpful and friendly. The rooms were very pleasant and comfortable spoilt only by poor quality pillows. An easy fix that would make all the difference. My wife had a pizza and said it was one of the best she'd had.
Review 21:The lighting in the rooms is a little dim.
Review 22:This our second visit to the Pig and not our last. Great location for our holiday parking. The staff are always polite, helpful and knowledgeable and the food is great too!
Review 23:The room we had was a little on the chilly side but this did improve with the extra heater once we had been in the room for a while. There was also the sound of an extractor fan outside that could be heard in the room throughout the night.
Review 24:Location and interior style
Review 25:Have slept in more comfortable beds for less money. Bed rating, 7/10
Review 26:Great service, very helpful staff, great food, nice room, very friendly staff, parking right out front, good internet, very efficient staff, super pub with great garden out the back, and did i mention the great staff? ;-b
Review 27:Dinner in evening Food very bland Chicken dish lacked flavour and chips undercooked Lamb dish very dry Very disappointing. However other tables had pizzas and they looked great ! Very busy restaurant
Review 28:Ambience Room very comfortable Freshly cooked breakfast included in tarrif Very friendly staff nothing too much travel
Review 29:arrived late and meals had stopped being served Manager kindly offered some cold meat cheese bread olives sundried tomatos excellent just what we needed and a bottle of red thanks louise
Review 30:A comfortable, clean room and spacious bathroom with bath and excellent plumbing. Good and reasonably priced evening meal and excellent breakfast. Free Wi-fi.
Review 31:Not their fault, but wifi reception was bad and had no service on mobile phone.
Review 32:The staff were really helpful. I was on my own and arrived late about 11:30pm - the two girls greeted me at reception, I had only booked online about half hour previously as an unexpected late booking (my son had late surgery at local hospital) so had to stay local. The next morning, the duty manager was just as helpful - helping me with breakfast and arranging a taxi for me back to the hospital. Their kindness went along way as I wasn't familiar with the area and had had a stressful few days prior owing to my son having an accident.
Review 33:The room was very small & smelled musty, with an uncomfortable double sized bed. The room was called a King, which I mistakenly thought referred to the size of the bed. The breakfast was filling but not tasty
Review 34:The location is convenient to Gatwick
Review 35:Only one minor thing to suggest, a mirror near the plugs for hair drier. Had to use the reflection from the large print of a piggy to style my hair. Amusing but would rather of had a Murrow.
Review 36:Excellent place to stay, food great with lots of choice. As we had a morning flight we asked if it would be possible to have a take away breakfast. This was arranged without quickly without fuss, and we were able to eat it later on our flight.
Review 37:Great location only 10 minutes from Gatwick so easy for the pick up we were there for, fabulous staff so friendly and helpful. Evening meal was great, restaurant was really busy but didn't feel it. Room was nice, all the usual things needed. Breakfast was fabulous great choice and plenty of coffee.
Review 38:The hotel manager was lovely, really personable and welcoming, she made us feel right at home. The food is also amazing! Well worth a visit just for the food!
Review 39:We had a very late flight but the young lady on reception stayed up several hours past last arrival time, it was 2am when we finally got there, she couldn't have been more polite and helpful. Room was really nice and comfortable, beautifully clean, the breakfast was great and the chap who was on duty in the morning was just as helpful and friendly. It was also great value.
Review 40:Feeling of comfort in all areas. Good food; friendly staff; great outdoor space. Wonderful to relax in a comfy chair in bar area, with newspaper and a drink - especially when it's raining! Carry on doing a great job Gareth x
Review 41:Chef's decision that if we wanted a different cheese to the one on the menu (which we didn't like) then we would have to pay extra for the meal. Unfair - we're only talking about halloumi here! This cheese became a bit of an issue during our stay, with the kitchen running out of it twice in three days!
Review 42:Manageress was attentive. Moved rooms without any problem when we requested a more suitable one.
Review 43:A shower cap would have been useful as I am only short. Managed to get one from a local Waitrose. The room was very nice but there was little surface space to put your bits and bobs, especially in the bathroom.
Review 44:Excellent location in a leafy road. Easy to get to Gatwick without being right on the doorstep of the Airport. Staff delightful and the food was excellent. Room was clean and tidy with almost everything you might need for a short stay.
Review 45:Room was a little small and there were no plug sockets near a mirror to do hair etc.
Review 46:Friendly staff, excellent breakfast. Relaxing restaurant/bar. Would definitely return if need to stay in the area.
Review 47:On a noisy road. Very small supposed king bed, slopes to the edges so you constantly feel like you are falling out of bed. Signature dish, served tasteless, cold, stale by waitress who had lost the power of speech it would seem.
Review 48:Very helpful manager.
Review 49:It was hot and no air conditioning or fan 2 window blinds broken. The windows were very dusty. Bed was not very comfortable
Review 50:The food was excellent. The manager was very helpful
Review 51:It is a bit of a convoluted journey to reach the inn but once you do then finding your way back to Gatwick is a breeze.
Review 52:We needed a place to stay the night before our flight the following morning from Gatwick, and this was a charming alternative to the bland accommodation offered at the airport. Decor was lovely, staff were welcoming, the rooms were stylish. We would definitely stay there again.
Review 53:The staff and the hotel were top notch. The staff were friendly and efficient, nothing was too much trouble. Food was amazing, and for the first time my steak was cooked just how I like it. Hotel was fab, idyllic is a word that comes to mind as when we were there the weather was fantastic, but great garden as well as bar.
Review 54:Reception door locked so had to go through pub with all my bags.
Review 55:Great pub with fantastic beer garden, accommodation in separate but joined building and the rooms were decorated superbly with great attention to detail. Lovely touches like White Company toiletries and San Pellegrino water in the room. Wifi worked really well and no messing around having to sign in. Quiet even though I was on the ground floor. All the staff were very friendly and helpful giving great service. The food was brilliant, I was very happy eating in the lively pub for dinner even on my own. Breakfast was just as good - the cheddar benedict delicious and eggs done perfectly! Overall I would highly recommend if you are after a comfy, fun but up market pub with accommodation to stay for a night. I've based the scores on what the pub offered and what I expect from that kind of accommodation. If I'm in the area I'll definitely stay here again.
Review 56:The room was rather too hot. More ventilation required - we were in Tamworth. A good quality fan was provided, but even with the window wedged open and the fan it was too warm.
Review 57:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food is of a high standard. It was excellent value for money.
Review 58:Nothing to report!
Review 59:The staff were always keen to help with a ready smile. The room was clean and well presented. The food was exceptional given the great value for money. Well done all at The Curious!
Review 60:The room could have done with a useable shelf in the bathroom, mirror over the table rather than on the wall opposite,
Review 61:Staff friendly, great food, room comfortable
Review 62:Wonderful place to stay for a couple of days. Curious, quaint, spotlessly clean, excellent food, exceptional staff. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again or recommend to friends
Review 63:Could have done with a little more choice at breakfast - perhaps a choice of fruit as well as the cereals, yoghurt & cooked breakfast.
Review 64:What a gem. This pub has lovely rooms with stylish furniture, quality fabrics and great style. The staff (particularly the Deputy Manager) were very friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. The food was superb with a good selection on the menu, fantastic Charolais & Limousin steaks, and great choice of wine. Impressive. We needed to leave at 0815 - they served breakfast early for us especially at 0745. Much appreciated, and I will definitely book this pub again.
Review 65:Ventilation in the room very bad. It was a hot night and I had the only opening window top vents propped fully open and the bathroom door open (to actuate the vent fan) in order to get some airflow. Pretty sleepless night although bed was comfortable. Shane
Review 66:The room was very comfortable and clean. Bathroom of good size and clean. Breakfast very good. Restaurant excellent
Review 67:Not a big deal really but the lighting in our room was a wee bit dim.
Review 68:all lovely staff. We didn't meet anyone who didn't want to help. They all smiled! Excellent customer service! The room was spotless and the bedding was crisp and clean. We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and both were high class meals. We certainly were'nt expecting anything quite as good as we thought we'd booked into a run-of-the-mill pub!
Review 69:didn't know ahead of time there was breakfast included in the room price - it is included and is great ! you should advertise and make that clear !
Review 70:the food was delicious and bar atmosphere was great
Review 71:Firm bed and modest sized room.
Review 72:Convenience of decent restaurant alongside. Tasty breakfast (not immediately evident as included in the price on Booking. com) albeit they didn't have enough eggs to make the hollandaise sauce.
Review 73:The pillows. 2 is too many and 1 is not enough. This isn't the hotel's fault just personal preference.
Review 74:everything was great. Evening meal excellent, real ale was served well, breakfast really good. Cannot fault this place and I hope to stay there again soon.
Review 75:Inconvenient bath, the sink in XS format was too small even for a kid, no shelve for toilletteries. Looks renovated but still inconvenient and old-fashioned. The room was rather small and a bit noisy from the nearby main road but luckily away from the pub. The location is quite out of town, nothing around.
Review 76:Great food, very friendly staff, lots of parking space.
Review 77:Only comment is bathroom tired, no water glasses (borrowed from the bar) & pillows not good. All minor.
Review 78:Loved the pub/restaurant and the fact that the rooms are in a separate building (linked). This means no noise or impact on people staying overnight. Breakfast was a cut above the average and therefore offered great value for money for B&B. We were travelling to Gatwick the next morning so location superb. We unfortunately couldn't eat there in the evening but judging by what we saw the food looked amazing. Staff wonderful & room very tastefully presented. Would recommend & return for sure.
Review 79:The bath tap was very difficult to turn off. The restaurant takes priority over the accommodation and so there was no-one to check us in and we had to go and find someone in the bar twice before anyone came to let us into our room.
Review 80:Close to Gatwick but far away enough not to notice. Quiet location, comfortable room, good food in the restaurant. Parking and wifi were both very good.
Review 81:Pillows were way too soft, road noise did wake me during the night.
Review 82:Staff were helpful, free wifi very useful & the rooms were a nice change from a standard chain hotel
Review 83:The only negative was that we had a downstairs room and could hear the movements of the people in the room above.
Review 84:Curious Pig in the Parlour had lots of atmosphere. We were visiting Chartwell and with a hire car and it was very convenient, the room comfortable , the restaurant on the property had a good menu and was busy, the staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 85:The one moody waitress, let the rest of the team down.
Review 86:Clean, comfortable bedroom. They reserve tables in the restaurant for hotel guests, a nice service for the less organised. The quirky decor.
Review 87:We were pretty warm during the night, there was a fan but we didn't use it due to the noise. Lovely sash windows but we were unable to keep them open. This wouldn't deter us from staying again.
Review 88:Lovely concept. Good quality fixtures and bedding.
Review 89:The outside (garden) area badly needs refreshing, starting with the basic activity of finding a power washer and applying it to all the paved surfaces. They were in a dreadful state.
Review 90:The build standard and materials of the renovation are of a high standard. The staff are helpful and the food was quite good.
Review 91:What is there not to like? It was lovely.
Review 92:Although beside a fairly busy road the bedroom as quiet and the bed very comfortable. There was a bath & shower rather than just a shower and some very nice quality soaps, shampoo and smellies. Food also good and served by cheerful helpful pleasant staff.
Review 93:Breakfast was not so good although evening meal was pretty good. Cooked breakfast was not well cooked - tomatoes undercooked and tasted pretty horrid, fried potatoes hardly fried at all. Was impossible to dry hair as socket was too far away from a mirror - extra lighting would have been helpful.
Review 94:Staff were generally very pleasant. Very tasteful interior decor. Nice setting and well situated for interesting places to visit. Staff produced an extension lead for hair dryer promptly and were aware of the problem. An easy and relaxed atmosphere all round.
Review 95:Bar restaurant is more of a restaurant than a bar and lacks a bar atmosphere, I would prefer to eat in the bar with TV on when traveling alone .
Review 96:Really nice modern rooms, I've stayed here a couple of times and have always found it be be good for when working in the area.
Review 97:I enjoyed my stay as the room was large and nicely decorated. It was nice to have real coffee and a cafetiere instead of the usual instant coffee. I had a pizza for dinner in the restaurant which was delicious. I would stay here again as it was something different.
Review 98:The only thing that was more of a frustration than a complaint was noisy guests upstairs due to squeaky floorboards, they walked around a lot.
Review 99:Overall a lovely B & B, room cosy and comfy, food excellent. As a sole traveller I don't often eat in the restaurant but the staff made me feel very welcome, not at all uncomfortable so I ate a lovely meal in the restaurant. Breakfast the following morning was equally good.
Review 100:No mirror in my bedroom which for a woman is a disaster!! My lead on hairdryer was not long enough to plug in bedroom and use bathroom mirror
Review 101:Staff were friendly and helpful and food in restaurant was good quality and value for money
Review 102:Only the fact that we should have gone for a King size bed rather than a Double but that was our own fault.
Review 103:Location, food in the restaurant is excellent. Service also excellent. Bedroom was lovely.
Review 104:Bed was very firm, but clean. Electric radiator needed attention as the electric wires were exposed. Bedroom lamp also needed replacing.
Review 105:Staff very friendly, typical pub quality food, but location is good for Gatwick.
Review 106:As a constant business traveler I do get tired of characterless hotels and robotic staff with no customer care skills. The Curious Pig in the Parlour is a place full of character with an excellent menu, good selection of beers and really nice rooms. The bed provided me with a good nights sleep and the room was perfectly prepared and very clean The management (especially Atlanta) couldn't have been more helpful and we're very attentive. All in all a great stay, good food, great breakfast and really worth the money.
Review 107:Close to the main road and the flight path for Gatwick
Review 108:Recently refurbished pub and hotel. The rooms are of a decent size and are well equipped for a good nights stay. The pub has a decent range of beers, wines and food.
Review 109:We went in January and our room (the Parlour) led directly outside So was very drafty. They should block the door from the room with a curtain.
Review 110:The manager was extremely accommodating and thoughtful even though he was clearly working very long hours. When we had a problem with the temperature of the room they offered a generous discount. Very clean and better toiletries (white co) and in room snacks than I would expect for the price.
Review 111:I guess the room was not particularly big but there was nothing lacking and to be honest it didn't really matter.
Review 112:We stayed here as our regular haunt was fully booked and now we are hooked! Warm, comfortable and cosy, stylish room with attention to detail. Food is fab quality and there is a nice feel to the restaurant but not at all pretentious.
Review 113:All good.
Review 114:The food was great, selection with enough variety to suit a Coeliac. The decor was modern but not over stated, the rooms tidy and very comfortable. Plenty of parking.
Review 115:Arrived in the evening of a very cold night, no heating on in room and window open = freezing cold room. No armchair in room, no hangers (basic stuff). Chaotic Reception and greeting. Lack of attention to guest.
Review 116:Pleasant area, good parking, nice building, good food, restaurant and bar. Comfortable bed, good wifi. Quiet. Pleasant room.
Review 117:Road outside was in constant use all night - not sure if it was a rat run for the locals - so choose a room at the back!
Review 118:6 minutes from M23 and not under the flight path. Nice restaurant and good food which wasn't overpriced
Review 119:* Squeaky door outside our room that kept us awake in the morning
Review 120:* Nicely decorated * Quirky design * Nice pub and restaurant * Would stay again * Good value for money
Review 121:Rooms were very warm, early morning check out took too long! No early morning breakfast eg. Before 7am!
Review 122:Location to Gatwick was great. Restaurant was really good and had probably one of the best steaks I have ever had! Rooms were really well decorated, although the Old Spot room bathroom doorknob was broken. And we had lovely coffee but no caffiterre to put it in! Great shower!
Review 123:Asked for a quiet room and got put in a room by the front door, car park and road!!! Not quiet at all, road noise I was expecting and they have tried to sort with heavy curtains and double glazing, eye plugs or not still a problem! Bed hard and pillows terrible! Towel supplier needs to be taken to one side as they are very thin! Expensive wine (which is well under parr/value for money quality for price charged), meal Ok but thats all, nothing special certainly not up to first impressions you get with the great staff greeting! Makes you feel you are in for a good night, but it falls apart from there-on, shame really!
Review 124:Great staff, Nice rooms but spoilt by minor things and noise!
Review 125:Only one thing ,small double bed and very hard so didn't sleep well, and being on ground floor could hear people above.
Review 126:Staff where very polite and helpful, food very good and even though they were busy service very quick for our meal, for starter and main 10 minute wait max.were booked in for next year in December in a king size room, as going to a friends wedding near by.breakfast very nice to.
Review 127:Proximity to the road - our room was at the front and the traffic noise throughout the night (presumably cars en route to the airport) was disturbing to sleep - we are light sleepers so might not bother others
Review 128:Aside from traffic noise it was perfect for our requirements!
Review 129:Bedroom and Bathroom quite small for a King room. The room was a bit tired feeling with some cobwebs behind the curtains and s few dead insects between window and sliding internal window. The bed was not made any morning and we are more used to things like daily room servicing and a towel change maybe on day two of four day stay.
Review 130:Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Both Lunch and Dinner were excellent Breakfast was help yourself buffet style with a cooked option to order. We only had the buffet stuff but this was fresh and plentiful. Proximity to Gatwick yet rural feeling location.
Review 131:Bit off the beaten track which might not be everybody's "cup of tea"
Review 132:Beautiful interior/exterior. Friendly staff who always had a smile and made you feel welcome. Food was very good and a menu worthy of a good dining restaurant.
Review 133:This is perfect for a relaxing night before flying off from Gatwick, so much better than the airport hotels. The food is particularly good and I would definitely stay again. Excellent
Review 134:I was picking my son up from Gatwick and he had been travelling 24hours from Africa. Wasn't sure if we would get back for dinner sostaff suggested that I could phone through an order and that they wouldwait for us.
Review 135:Rooms on the front can be slightly noisy if you are a light sleeper because of the road. Summer nights can be a bit warm in the room.
Review 136:Friendly and accommodating staff who were prompt at meeting my requests(Room Change and Late Check out) Good food.
