Reviews for Roslin Beach Hotel
Review 1:The food is not always of the quality that is expected and there was no safe in the room.
Review 2:The rooms and hotel is very comfortable, the staff are all really friendly and helpful.
Review 3:There was building works going on in hotel so there was. Consistent banging no. Stop from morning till evening found this difficult to deal with woke us up early and kept us awake
Review 4:Had an amazing time staff were amazing there was an older lady in housekeeping and she was so amazing so polite really did look after us
Review 5:The room service messed up our order little bit but it was immediately fixed and apologized for.The mini fridge in a room contained water only, no other drinks or snacks.
Review 6:The bed was very comfortable, I slept like a baby.
Review 7:Room 109 had a very lumpy mattress on the right side of bed and was also very squeaky (this was reported to staff)
Review 8:Made very welcome from moment we arrived. Speedy check in and no hesitation from staff to make us feel welcome. Staff were very helpful when I asked if there was another room available as I found the bed uncomfortable- we were offered another room but was only a small double (equally very soft) and we had booked a delux king size room, the room offered also overlooked the Carpark on the ground floor and so we decided in staying in the delux room (109) we had booked. However, when I tried to run a bath a little later, the cold water tap didn't run and shower also didn't work. After notifying reception staff upgraded us to a suit. Location on sea front lovely for morning walk after breakfast. Would have had a massage if I had booked in advance but no availability at short notice. Breakfast was lovely and all staff were very friendly. Rooms were clean and provided Elemis products which were a nice touch. Would definitely return and recommend to friends and family. May be booking for a birthday present for my mum :-)
Review 9:We felt the room while cosy and warm was way too small.
Review 10:Emjoyed the decor and especially the Christmas decorations and our dinner for six was very good.
Review 11:Room 107 was a little too warm and quite noisy with the windows left open, due to noise from adjacent air conditioning units. Apart from this the Roslin is a gem of a hotel.
Review 12:Staff are excellent as is the food and overall condition of the hotel and room's
Review 13:Be aware that they have different types of standard double rooms where they do not mention whether you have a sea view or not. I thought that was very cheeky of them to do that. Also non of the rooms have pictures on there website. So you do not know which room you will be in. Prices are way too high for the location as its more than 15mins walk to the main strip.
Review 14:Very good location. Rooms are amazing.
Review 15:We had rooms outside the main building! Very hot rooms and strong air fresheners on which were probably to cover a damp problem ( this is only a guess)
Review 16:Great breakfast main hotel lovely
Review 17:Must admit room was a tad small for the money but imaculate clean and very comfortable it had everything we needed in it. Even pg tips
Review 18:Staff cudnt do any more to help very very pleased had a brilliant new years eve. Very clean
Review 19:Room small and cramped, restaurant and bar understaffed in the evening and so was breakfast. Getting in and out the bath was dangerous as small space and sloping back of bath
Review 20:Location excellent, breakfast food was lovely, staff very pleasant
Review 21:Our bedroom hadn't been hoovered which we thought was a bit odd. The bathroom was small and quite cramped,in fact this made getting into and out of the shower quite dangerous! Water sprayed everywhere whilst in the shower even with the glass screen which then made the floor really slippy. Certainly wouldn't let my grand parents stay here as taking a shower was tricky! Breakfast was really busy in the morning and under staffed. We waited a long time to be spoken to as staff cleared tables ahead of taking our order. The table was rickety so our tea spilt everywhere and the waitress just commented that it must have been annoying for us. All in all not great for a 4* hotel!
Review 22:The room was smart, as was the general hotel. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was nice.
Review 23:Unfortunately we had a 20 minute wait sat at our Breakfast table. We eventually called the head waiter over to complain about the poor service. He was very apologetic and the Breakfast was fine afterward.
Review 24:I was not allowed to stay in the main hotel because of my dog. My allocated room was in the "Business Centre" a dark (you had to wait for the sensor lights to turn on), smelly little block in the busy car park. Literally 2 cars were parked directly outside the window. So disappointing, a very small, ground floor, double room, nothing like the photos (or luxury) promised on the website. £130 per night! I was so disappointed and felt ripped off. I left immediately.
Review 25:The main hotel looked nice when I arrived on Christmas Eve for my luxury 2 night festive break. I was really looking forward to it.
Review 26:As I am 75 years of age and my husband is 79 the lack of a lift presented a slight problem. Room 204 had no where in the shower to place soap and the plug wpuld not stay down in the wash basin. For us the hotel was too hot.
Review 27:Very pleasant bar and lounge area. A very large comfortable bed with high quality bed linen and towels. The hotel was exquisitely decorated for Christmas
Review 28:The noise from the festivities at night right through to midnight was frankly ridiculous and it was not possible to go to sleep before then. Had it not been for this and the fact that I and my sister had to change our location to avoid this noise I would have given top of the board marks. I do not want you to think I am just a grumpy old man but believe me the noise in my first room was unbelievable most from the bass instruments.
Review 29:General location and the staff were very good as was the arrangement of the festive decorations. Overall Good.
Review 30:The stay was too short. Only other small gripe was not being able to book the afternoon tea on line but only by phone.
Review 31:The restaurant was full so we went to sit in the resident's lounge. We were able to order food and drinks which came very quickly considering how busy they were. We were very lucky in that nobody else us disturbed us and it felt like private dining. Also my sister has a very small baby and the cot was available. Both rooms were lovely and comfortable. No complaints.
Review 32:The only fault if any was our room was set a two singles but was changed promptly and with no hesitation. The shower was the only other thing as the temperature control was fiddly to gauge. Room 107.
Review 33:The level of service. Decor of the lobby and were resturant stunning. Even carrying the theme into staircase. Staff friendly and professional.
Review 34:Everything, the hotel was just beautiful, the reception staff were fantastic, our room was perfect and the food in the restaurant was absolutley delious
Review 35:Unfortunately 5* hotel doesn't mean 5* guests we were woken at 3am by loud banging on our door by an excessively drunk individual who didn't know his room number. This carried on for a while until his friend moved him away from our door. I think that the bar and surrounding area have taken a turn for the worse by allowing the bar to be used by non guests with little respect for others. no longer a 5* establishment in my view.
Review 36:great staff as always, helpful and friendly. Facilities are good and the rooms are beautifully cleaned and well presented.
Review 37:Parking is a little tricky when it's fully booked. Having said that we did get parked fairly quickly
Review 38:Everything was perfect. The receptionist carried my bags, set up the tv for me - nothing was too much and they were fully booked so they were busy. The bed is absolutely the comfiest bed I have ever slept on. Breakfast was beautiful. Outstanding views.
Review 39:Hotel was lovely and paid less than for the premier inn through booking.com with the excellent buffet breakfast included. Room was perfect with a lovely view over the water. Everything I needed was available and more, all nice and clean. Evening meal was not cheap but was excellent. Very happy with my find. Thanks.
Review 40:Tried to book spa 2 weeks before. Rang twice and waited for return phone call due to speaking with a member of staff that was training. Never received phone call back. On 3rd call I made to book spa it was fully booked. And so was the restaurant. Didn't want to cancel room but had to make arrangements to go elsewhere to get some treatments. Was supposed to be a special relaxing weekend for me and a friend but didn't really get it! Was very disappointed.
Review 41:Comfy room
Review 42:Telly remote was not working properly and I found the bed rather lumpy and a little uncomfortable
Review 43:Courteous staff and lovely location. Excellent breakfast. Efficient check in
Review 44:Some staff members were rude. Particularly 2 members that I will be making an official complaint about.
Review 45:Fantastic hotel. Beautiful rooms. Would definitely stay here again.
Review 46:They could have taken some off the bill as we had to stay in another room for headiest night as the cistern was broken and continually filling. It was still not fixed properly the second night when we were back in the original room and woke us at 3a.m dripping!
Review 47:The staff were helpful and friendly
Review 48:Nothing.
Review 49:The hotel is excellent, the rooms were very clean , the food was terrific and the staff were really friendly. The hotel is in a great location overlooking the seafront with plenty of free parking.
Review 50:Friendly staff. Relaxing environment. Comfortable room. Good breakfast with lovely view of sea and pier. Close enough to town and amenities to leave the car.
Review 51:Checking in was not a good experience due to new reception being built and was a bit of a muddle
Review 52:Location, lovely room, amenities and superb breakfast
Review 53:Nothing
Review 54:Excellent location on the sea front but away from the crowds. A big, busy hotel but you are made to feel valued as a guest. A great place to celebrate finishing my 5,100 mile cycle ride around the British coast.
Review 55:Although we couldn't fault the hotel , we was unlucky enough to get given a small room, our friends was even smaller , and we feel that should've been reflected in the price, alas we still had to pay top dollar .
Review 56:We liked everything about the hotel , the location, staff, food and the ambiance was top notch .
Review 57:Always very busy, people always coming in and out. Public areas always crowded.
Review 58:Beautiful hotel that is very comfortable and clean in a great location. Food is amazing!
Review 59:This is the first time for many years that we decided to spend a few days together. We enjoyed it so much that the decision was made that it wii now become a regular arrangement.
Review 60:Dinner too ages. I sat alone at 7.30pm and it took until gone 9pm for me to finish my meal. Service was VERY slow, and staff walking past a lot. I was then up 6 hours later with food poisoning, which was unfortunate, as the food was lovely - I had fish.
Review 61:very nice hotel and convenient location. room was nice and clean. Nice big bath. Was chilly on arrival and the heating worked a treat.
Review 62:Our friends' bath was too small for adults so the hotel happily upgraded their room the second night. No fuss, no bother.
Review 63:Delightful staff, tastefully furnished, delicious food. Good for parking, found a space both nights. Took a ride on the train to the end of Southend Pier, and sat and relaxed with a cup of coffee in the autumn sun.
Review 64:Noise and vibration from a door in the kitchen below banging. This stopped after we complained to staff
Review 65:Room was a nice size and clean . Staff dealt with our complaint quickly and efficiently. Breakfast was excellent
Review 66:Nothing important, only my preference for soap rather than gel in the bathroom!
Review 67:Generous sized room, clean and comfortable. Attentive staff and great food
Review 68:Chose the hotel for it's car parking on site but could not get parked and had to park two streets away! The room was at the bottom of a flight of stairs and was very noisy with people up and down at all hours during the night.
Review 69:The staff on a whole were very friendly and helpful. Food was fantastic. The room was lovely albeit small and noisy. Location on the sea front and views across the bay.
Review 70:Small issue... On site car park was really busy on the Sunday and had to wait for space.
Review 71:Beautiful hotel and room, great views from room 118. Had drinks on heated terrace in evening and a lovely breakfast!
Review 72:The only thing they said that in the morning there was a terrible smell of sewerage from the bathroom and did not have a shower, as it was quite bad.
Review 73:was a surprise for my daughters birthday, she was so happy and had a lovely time with her husband.
Review 74:We were told we could not book a table for the evening, and the waitress when we arrived served us the wrong drinks.I asked for pear cider and was brought ale in a pint glass!!
Review 75:The food and room were very good and would stay again for this reason.
Review 76:Breakfast was dismal, no fresh fruit, bacon hard couldn't even cut it,toast was pappy, not crisp, had to find waitress to have more coffee, had to clear our own table so we could eat the toast, rather disappointed this time, would we go again, yes we would
Review 77:Been before many times always been happy with the package
Review 78:Only comment which is really nit picking, didn't expect self service breakfast but still amazing breakfast!
Review 79:Lovely stay in a beautiful hotel, staff are very attentive and friendly.. Will definitely be returning!
Review 80:The bed was the most comfortable I have slept in for a long time. I have problems with my back and rarel find comfort in hotels. This was an exception. In a deluxe room there were no less than 3 toppers on a sprung mattress and wonderful bedding.
Review 81:It didn't have a bath. I was here treating myself with a night away from being mother... Some R&R. It didn't ruin anything as the food was brilliant!
Review 82:The food was amazing!!!! Wine was lovely. Chocolate desert was amazing too!!!
Review 83:Nothing to report here.
Review 84:The facilities are excellent, the room and bed comfortable and well appointed, the ding room, meals, and staff were second to none.
Review 85:There was really nothing to dislike, although the bathroom needed to be a little larger! My sister had a single room and the shower was a bit of a tight squeeze. Also on booking.com we were led to believe that the single room would have a bath and shower! The bath in the kingsize room was not full size!
Review 86:The decor was fabulous and the beach theme was evident throughout. The staff were very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. The bed was really comfortable, probably because it had a sumptuous mattress comforter on top of the mattress. All was clean and our room prepared brilliantly each day. The food was delicious and well presented. There was an extensive variety of food at breakfast.
Review 87:We stayed in the Business Centre to the rear of the hotel as we were traveling with my old blind diabetic dog. This is convenient for her as there are no stairs and it is just a short walk to outside. The room was comfortable and warm. They provided a fridge for the dogs insulin and also provided a bed ,rug and bowl. This made it easy for us to deal with her problemsand have a good break For us the breakfast was great with so much choice. Also all the staff were very helpful and kind
Review 88:I always stay at the Roslin when visiting Southend as it's the best hotel in the area. This time for my daughters wedding at the hotel. Superb day! The hotel and their staff couldn't have done more. I love it there.
Review 89:The Fact that the Hotel did not have a lift, and having carry luggage up to the top floor.
Review 90:The Rooms and the food were excellent, and the staff were very accommodating
Review 91:Car park insufficient when hotel is full and can't be booked inadvance (we had to find parking elsewhere) No vegetarian alternatives offered to meat options at breakfast.
Review 92:Location - lovely sea view. Our room was especially quiet as it was located in the conference centre. Impeccably clean and comfortable. Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 93:Some of the Menu choices were limited and the service of the drinks was slow. We had virtually finished our main course before the drinks that we asked for arrived.
Review 94:As it was our 40th wedding anniversary, they upgraded our room. It was a great room overlooking the sea.
Review 95:We was suppose to have a kingsize/twin room and it wasn't at all. No where to put our travel cot so our 7 month year old had to sleep with us! They take £30 for room service which we didn't use and suppose refunded within 2 days and we're still waiting for this back.
Review 96:The menu showing no prices was a slight concern, When we asked to see menus for the evening before deciding where to eat the waitress didn't make us feel welcome or comfortable, she rushed through explaining where each menu was for, ie bar or restaurant, This left us opting to eat at the Ocean beach a short walk away,
Review 97:The welcome by the staff at the desk , the decor was lovely , Walking into a airy clean room with a stunning view , and a bed that I new was going to be pure comfort all night. The evening we had a few drinks before retiring for the night and all the gentlemen serving made us feel very welcome,
Review 98:In my room you could hear a pulsating noise all night and so I could not sleep. I did ask for another room but was told there were no more rooms.
Review 99:It was all very nice
Review 100:Breakfast ordered to room was late had to call & remind them turned up cold. Horrible wallpaper! Of fish!
Review 101:Lovely views best room is one with a balcony. Nice size room. Bed is the most comfortable 1 iv ever slept in.
Review 102:very over priced small room with a tiny tiny bath would not stay again ony because of the price 147 pounds for 1 night
Review 103:a nice hotel good location very good staff
Review 104:In one bed (single room) the mattress needed turning and was uncomfortably sloping. Noise from fan outside room disturbed sleep and prevented window being opened during very hot nights.
Review 105:Easy access to both town and quieter shores. Very professional staff and excellent room service.
Review 106:Warm welcome from all the staff we came across, everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. Rooms were comfortable, spacious and I personally loved the decor :-) would definitely stay there again if I was in the area and would certainly recommend to a friend
Review 107:had to move from a terraced area without warning whilst enjoying a pleasant drink with friends because of a pending wedding feast in an ajoining dining room, this was very unprofessional as we were enjoying the last of the summers sunshine and were moved to a hot crowded dining area. Our friends did complain as we are elderly and had to transfer drinks etc. to a less pleasant area. also as non smokers we were very dissappointed to have to suffer the constant cigarette smoke and cigarette ends on our balcony on the ground floor, and we felt our afternoon tea was shortened by an influx of husbands boyfriends and children etc.of a 60th ladies afternoon tea party.
Review 108:excellent breakfast and comfortable beds.
Review 109:Buffet style Breakfast served in great restaurant overlooking sea. Plenty of choice but was luke warm, prefer if it was hotter, there was plenty of toast & lovely cuppa tea.
Review 110:Fantastic hotel in a fab spot with sea views, staff couldn't do enough for us. Mum forgot her toothbrush, they had one to hand she also didn't bring any sunscreen (didn't expect to have such great weather in early sept) lovely young girl from spa gave mum couple sachets of cream. We had lovely room with our own private sun terrace through the french doors from the bedroom, great touch. Bed to die for... pillows like clouds.. Can I make a suggestion we were in ground floor room 008 & it would be great if you could please have a full length mirror in room. Will deffo be returning and will recommend hotel.
Review 111:Reception staff were disorganised, I had booked a twin bedded room and this was confirmed when I checked in, however getting to the room it was a double. It was out right but with very lite apology
Review 112:Very nice decor and setting
Review 113:Lift to 1st floor would be appreciated for the less mobile.
Review 114:Location, parking, ground floor access. view from room, bar service, food. Very professional and attentive staff.
Review 115:Tv in the room did not work, asked a member of room service to send someone to come And fix it,but no one came.no hotel slipers,no shower hat.Bathroom-not properly cleaned
Review 116:Great food!friendly staff!amazing view from the restaurant
Review 117:Booked a 'sea view' but got a slither of the sea. Egg options at breakfast appear limited to scrambled - no menu to inform otherwise.
Review 118:Staff very friendly and obliging. Position. Fresh fruit at breakfast.
Review 119:Maybe a little bit over priced for the room we had? Although we had sea views it was still expensive compared to others we've used before...
Review 120:Fantastic views from the room, very clean. Staff are lovely.
Review 121:Although when we finally got breakfast it was tasty and well cooked it was disjointed. we were a group of 6 and some of us got plates, but some of us had to wait, then some of us got bacon sausages etc but some of us had to wait, therefore we didnt eat breakfast at the same time. a lot of waiting around!
Review 122:friendly staff
Review 123:Being on the short side I found it difficult to reach the bath taps as unable to move shower screen out of the way and had to climb in to put plug in and turn on the taps but apart from that it's perfect
Review 124:The hotel was very relaxed and the staff were excellent especially Megan who provided my Spa Treatment
Review 125:Upon arrival we were upgraded by the manager. We then got a call in our room an hr or so after saying this was an error and dogs shouldn't be in that room so please be respectful as other guests are paying more for there room. Now that was rude, there rate was £30 more than mine a night, and to basically say there money was more important than mine. So spent the 2 nights anxious and making sure my two tiny dogs did not make a single sound, shame it couldn't be said for the other guests coming back at 4am and banging doors waking us all up
Review 126:Liked the decor and comfort of the beds
Review 127:I called in advance to check that we had two twin beds, however when we arrived they hadn't been separated yet.
Review 128:The staff in the restaurant were lovely as were the cleaning staff The sea view was a bonus
Review 129:Breakfast was chaotic with the self serve area not kept full of freshly cooked food. I had to wait 10 Minutes for Beans on one morning and dishes and glasses were in short supply on another. Cannot understand why fried eggs are not readily available in self serve? It needs a check in desk to control residents going to their table and anyone could have walked into the hotel and got a free breakfast. Staff were so rushed I think they were rushing to come and consequently were not quite as friendly as reception etc. Obviously the Hotel is going through a transition, it just needs some more control at breakfast time.
Review 130:Friendly staff, especially at Reception and Bar staff. Lively atmosphere in the Bar area, good range of quality drinks. Room very nice, in this case we were upgraded and the Queen size Bed was really comfortable newly decorated. Quality of breakfast was good. Definitely stay here again, hopefully they would have sorted breakfast issues next time.
Review 131:I booked a single room and as the hotel was busy it was a tiny room with a tiny bed not quite a single. I worried that mum might fall out and so did she, so she didnt have the normal good night sleep she normally gets at the Roslin
Review 132:Mum stays here often and the staff are wonderful and very caring
Review 133:nothing
Review 134:Just a lovely bright hotel. The restaurant area was wonderful and our room was great with a lovely view . Everybody was so helpful and friendly. We would definitely book again. A real treat.
Review 135:Didn't think the staff were very friendly. It was a nice hotel. Would I stay again, most probably not. Expensive for what it is
Review 136:Nice hotel. Nice location. Nice room
Review 137:the room and bathroom were very small, even though there were two people there was only one chair as there wasn't the space for two. The hotel was very very busy as there was a wedding most days. Could do with a larger car park area.
Review 138:all the staff were friendly and helpful. the choice of breakfast was excellent. Easy access to town as the bus stops were straight outside. The grounds were very well maintained, clean and tidy.
Review 139:There was some broken glass on the grass lawn in the front of the hotel which my baby picked up when crawling around.
Review 140:The hotel staff was so friendly and helpful. The room was beautifully designed and super clean. There was enough space in the room even with a travel cot and we had enough privacy too.
The Fine Print
Please note dogs are allowed upon request in standard double rooms only.
