Reviews for Best Western Plus Castle Green Hotel In Kendal
Review 1:Couldn't fault it.
Review 2:The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and more than helpful, we were given lots of information on the local walks which was a great help. Lots of choice for breakfast and the restaurant food was very nice and good value. Only about 15/20 mins walk from town centre, which we did regularly. Great quiet location. We had a room with a balcony which had lovely views of the gardens and town below.
Review 3:Bed wasn't the most comfortable but maybe we were unlucky as we have stayed previously and we had no such issue.
Review 4:Great location. Lovely staff. Good facilities.
Review 5:Our only let down was our meal that we booked months ago for Boxing Day at the Alexander. Firstly the evening had no atmosphere, the room was cold and the menu not very impressive. We decided to stay and just have a main meal. Mistake ! The food was terrible and a huge disappointment. We both left our meals ( This wasn't questioned when the plates went back full) had it not been for the festive season i would have refused to pay !
Review 6:Great stay,
Review 7:Very dated, large and draughty single glazed sash windows in an executive room. Programmable electric heating with no instructions. Could have done without being drip fed indiscreet post mortems by several men on a hotel party the night before at breakfast!
Review 8:Good food and facilities, lovely spot remote from the floods!
Review 9:We were at the hotel during the current floods in the Lakes. The staff were absolutely wonderful, very positive and reassuring doing all they could to reassure the guests. Everything was excellent
Review 10:No fridges inside the room, unusual.
Review 11:Quality fixtures and daily change of sheets (so difficult to find nowadays in quality hotels), friendly and polite staff at breakfast. Nice woodlands walk on hotel grounds.
Review 12:Very old room and the corridors look like hospital. For a 4* hotel, the bathroom products are not qualitative enough, no hair dryer, no slippers and no bathrobe. The spa was very old and dark. No towels but old sheets. Also we were not able to go to the swimming pool as it was very busy and noisy - more than 10people with kids - it was not a relaxing stay as it was supposed to be.
Review 13:Bar restaurant and fitness room
Review 14:We had a good experience. Some guests we met had rooms near the function room and were kept awake much of the night as a result (Sat night)
Review 15:Location, Staff, Breakfast
Review 16:As a regular traveler I could not find a fault worth noting.
Review 17:A great hotel with an excellent location. Breakfast is probably the best hotel breakfast I have had for a long time. (freshly cooked and good produce and a good chef behind the counter). Had a bar meal on the evening and this was also brilliant. The main restaurant-bar area had good atmosphere which worked (and was well used by the guests with a full bar area). Bedroom was comfortable and had a great nights sleep.
Review 18:Nothing really, hotel a little out of town but not an issue.
Review 19:Excellent meal in the pub and superb breakfast in the hotel. King size bed in the room, an enjoyable stay. Friendly staff.
Review 20:Everything, the staff were very helpful and cheerful, the hotel was clean and welcoming, the food was excellent, and the swimming pool and spa facilities were very good. I can also recommend the luxury pedicure.
Review 21:not a bad experience but would like to have seen some fruit tea on the coffee tray as I am lactose intolerant and don't have tea or coffee.
Review 22:hotel was very clean and staff helpful and pleasant. room was comfortable. very good gym facilities. would recommend to friend and family. liked the complimentary water.
Review 23:Room cold. Only heating was some low power electric radiator off when we arrived and took 3 hrs to heat room then switched off and did not come on in morning. Just not acceptable I middle of November.
Review 24:Staff friendly
Review 25:The price of the room should include breakfast, the hot and cold buffet breakfast was a bit pricey (£14 per person) we went for the cold buffet only.
Review 26:The location is very good, right at the entrance of the Lake District NP. We arrived late from London and we did appreciate the late check-in which is not the case of every hotel in the area. The bed was comfortable and the room quite big with a small sitting area.
Review 27:Restaurant food not very good. Still sticking to old fashioned ideas of hard veg and small portions. Paid £2 each for a Sorbet and they came with some sort of crumbs all over them - more like a pudding than a palate cleanser! Poor effort for the whole meal and expensive. Will try the pub next time.
Review 28:very efficient staff, nice room. Excellent breakfast, although the food had been on the hotplate so long, it was hard.
Review 29:The only slight downside was the Greenhouse restaurant menu, we would have liked to eaten there but the menu was a bit "out there" for our tastes. The lounge one made up for it however.
Review 30:The spa was fantastic and offered a range of appointments and treatments, the staff were always delightful and helpful. The lounge and bar was also very nice.
Review 31:3 paying adults in one room with child bed, not a family room. We had spoken on the phone so the knew it was 3 adults coming.....very squashed
Review 32:Breakfast lovely
Review 33:Very pleasant hotel. Good size room, comfortable and quiet. Only stayed four nights and only ate once during our stay, at Alexander's Pub, which was very nice.
Review 34:we booked a table for Dinner which wasnt registered. Waiter did not explain how the menu system works and got the impression they direct you to the most expensive "Taster" Menu.
Review 35:excellent hotel in well kept condition friendly staff
Review 36:The friendliness....and efficiency and helpfulness.....of ALL the staff. The quality of the food....and the service was excellent. We ate in the Greenhouse Restaurant, Alexander's Pub & in the Lounge/Bar -- all were excellent
Review 37:When we arrived we were booked into the wrong room. However the staff were very helpful and prepared the room we had originally booked and included a £5 voucher for the restaurant. Unfortunately the bed in the room was not as comfortable as it looked.
Review 38:Spa and other facilities. Restaurant and pub had a good choice of food and drink on offer.
Review 39:We had a room with a balcony which was lovely but the size of the shower cubicle was tiny and made showering difficult. Also a little over priced.
Review 40:Fantastic location, lovely place and atmosphere and everyone always happy to help.. Restaurant for both breakfast and evening meals 10/10 prep and quality top notch!
Review 41:The pub that is attached to the hotel is really more of an additional dining room rather than a pub in its own right. Not many seats unless you are eating.
Review 42:Looks like it had just been refurbished so was very clean and modern/up to date. Good facilities.
Review 43:Friendly, knowledgable and professional staff, on reception, in the bar, at the gym and at breakfast. A beautiful location in superb gardens with ample parking and great rooms.
Review 44:We booked 2 rooms - one twin and one double. Both were gloomy with dated decor. Both offered nothing beyond a Premier Inn which would have been much cheaper and included breakfast. We paid £98 per night per room on a very late minute deal without breakfast which was £15 per person ! We ate in Windermere in a lovely coffee ship for a fraction that price. Both our rooms (24 and 28) were on the ground floor and looked out into outbuildings.
Review 45:Friendly staff. Rang us before our stay to confirm our room requirements and give directions. We ate in the pub,Alexander's, which had a nice atmosphere and the food was quite good. Again, the staff there were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is set in a pretty location but is about 2 miles from the town centre. There is a pool and spa facilities but we didn't use these due to time constraints.
Review 46:Room was small. Breakfast cost extra on top of an already expensive room. Wifi didn't work. I asked for a double but got a twin.
Review 47:Lovely friendly staff. Good pool which was clean with good toys for kids. Room was clean and beds were really comfy. Plenty of tea. Lovely food. Plenty of towels.
Review 48:It didnt explain what you were able to use in the facilities anywere.. should of made it clear with a note in the room
Review 49:The food was really good also was the staff. Inside the place itself was nice to relax.
Review 50:We asked for a high floor room with a view and having to carry our luggage up the two floors as surprisingly there is no lift we found a close up view of the branches of a couple of trees only.
Review 51:The best start to a Sunday morning in ages an invigorating walk along leafy pathways and then fantastic views whilst enjoying our first class English breakfast - a great array of flavourful foods in the spacious dinning area.
Review 52:Dinner in restaurant very good but very over priced and small in quantity. Price for a single glass of wine was outrageous. Sought alternatives for rest of stay (5 nights). REALLY tiny toilet and shower space!
Review 53:Cleanliness, staff, position, all very good
Review 54:Nothing. Everything was of excellent standard! I would recommend and even stay again! :)
Review 55:- The breakfast buffet was amazing! So much choice! The room it is situated in has recently been refurbished and is a lovely restaurant to dine in. Great scenery as you're eating. :) - Great room facilities! The room was spotless! The bed was a 10/10 for comfort, we slept like babies! The bathroom was fab! So clean and modern, loved having a choice of either a bath/shower, the little toiletries are cute and smell really good! - Staff are welcoming and helpful :) - Loved having access to the pool, just a shame the spa was fully booked the weekend we went away due to some wedding parties having treatments... maybe next time!
Review 56:Being charged more for a newspaper than I would have paid at the shop. The hotel is not cheap so come on a complimentary paper wouldn't hurt
Review 57:Lovely hotel and facilities
Review 58:There are no negatives for this stay at all
Review 59:The staff were truly friendly, the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming and we were treated like royalty. There was no condescension and all were genuine in their pleasure at meeting us
Review 60:The loud noise of the water boiler from the rooms next door. Our first allocated room, twin beds in a converted cupboard with a view of a wall
Review 61:Location and friendly staff. Our second room allocation.
Review 62:Pool was not very inviting and water cold
Review 63:The staff were warm and welcoming. Hotel was clean, modern and comfortable. Even the cleaning staff were welcoming. Well done to all. Great breakfast to set you up for the day.
Review 64:Thought the hotel would be closer to Kendal centre. Not quite where we thought we would be. Our view from our room not good, but provided very adequate facilities and a comfy bed.
Review 65:We had excellent evening meals in the pub and the restaurant on site. Breakfast very good too. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Highly recommend.
Review 66:Lush surrounding gardens for children to run around. Excellent food both in main restaurant & Alexanders pub. Brilliant facilities with spa, pool & massage. A relaxing retreat for the whole family.
Review 67:room was a little disappointing as it overlooked the swimming pool pipe extracts so was a constant background noise and "musty" odourA
Review 68:Nice ambiance, happy friendly staff in both hotel and pub
Review 69:The room could be bigger and the bathroom fan could be more powerful.
Review 70:A lovely hotel in a great location. This was our second stay here and it didn't disappoint.
Review 71:A bit pricey. But it is the lakes after all.
Review 72:Great view of the grounds. Peaceful walk around the grounds under the stars. The night and day staff were really helpful. They even let me stay in the room before checkout a little longer as I was getting married the next day, free of charge. Overall a pleasant experience.
Review 73:No lift access to some rooms on higher floors Not suitable for people with no disability access or ramps infant kids buggy.
Review 74:Nice Location Lots of Parking
Review 75:Not much to do in Kendal, it's a little lifeless - but no fault of the hotel.
Review 76:Great location as a "gateway" to the Lakes. Breakfast was good - wide selection of options. Bedroom comfortable and spacious - balcony with view overlooking the mountains and garden recommended. Overall a very relaxed and comfortable stay.
Review 77:Insufficient signage at entrance to hotel -especially if arrival in the dark - to advise limited parking/drop off at reception. Leaving car in bottom car park resulted in hauling cases up several flights of stairs. Room could have been a lot nearer reception but it was nice to have the exercise!!
Review 78:Location - easy to find.
Review 79:Price was too high for basic room and it's facilities - out dated furniture and badly stained carpets
Review 80:Food to a high standard Friendly accommodating staff Well maintained grounds and gardens
Review 81:We booked this on the Internet, nowhere did it state that breakfast was NOT included, this was the most expensive hotel during our tour round England & Scotland, I was horrified when they requested £ 16 per head for the breakfast
Review 82:Not a lot a bit remote from Kendal
Review 83:We didn't like the temperature of the pool this was quite cold!
Review 84:The massages we had were excellent and they went the extra mile to give us complimentary glasses of Prosecco as it was my boyfriends birthday
Review 85:Drinks in the hotel can be a bit pricey. You can struggle to get a parking places as it was very busy when we stayed.
Review 86:Nice room good facilities and location next to Windermere. Good staff and a nice breakfast.
Review 87:a little more care could have been taken with the cleanliness of the room
Review 88:the on site restaurant was amazing everyone in the hotel was friendly and polite had a wonderful stay
Review 89:The one thing that lets the hotel down is the food served which wasn't good. Breakfast was poor. Lunch at hotel was disappointing so much so we did not pay. Food at Alexander's was just okay
Review 90:The hotel is fabulous rooms excellent views of grounds beautiful and well kept. Spa facilities fabulous. Hotel has everything
Review 91:No view from room
Review 92:Great location, very efficient staff and fabulous food. Really nice feel to the hotel even though weddings going on in the separate suite.
Review 93:Spa was a little disappointing, a jacuzzi would have been nice
Review 94:Loved location, setting, breakfast, room, staff. We were really well looked after and food was all great
Review 95:No lift access to parts of the building. Tha main entrance/reception/car park are not clearly marked compared to the conference centre. Sat navs wtc lead you to the wrong part and you end up going via the grounds to main reception. This was a minor issue on the whole. Still had a great stay.
Review 96:I loked that the property had a cosy quaint feel from the outside yet had all mod con facilities that you required inside. A good balance and staff were very friendly & helpful.
Review 97:Nothing
Review 98:Location lovely .breakfast great ..food in the pub next door was excellent. ..rooms were very clean. Couldn't fault any of the staff from cleaning staff to management. Will definitely stay at the castle green hotel again ....x
Review 99:No bath in room despite request when booking n shower very small to the point that had to turn shower off to use soap
Review 100:Staff in Greenhouse Restaurant most helpful. Restaurant was particularly nice.
Review 101:We felt that our room was very small and basic for the money that we had paid for our stay.
Review 102:The hotel was beautiful and the staff were really friendly and extremely helpful.
Review 103:Bedroom carpet stained. Bedroom/en-suite a little too small. Heavy curtains make ventilation at night stuffy despite windows being open.
Review 104:Easy access to bedroom. Friendly staff. Easy to reach from M6
Review 105:Breakfast tea was not as hot as it we would have liked. This was the only thing with which we found fault.
Review 106:Beautiful situation, immaculately tidy grounds. Lovely food.Breakfast bacon and sausages specially good.
Review 107:We had originally booked a standard double, however, the room was disappointing. Very small and slightly dated. We requested another room and were provided with an upgrade ( at a discounted price) to an executive double. The room was fantastic and recommended!!
Review 108:We had a fantasic few days at the Castle Green Hotel. The staff are welcoming and nothing was too much trouble - from room service to bar/restaurant/reception. We dined in the restaurant and the food was first class - as was the service :-) I would definately recommend this hotel.
Review 109:Place VERY busy in early Sept. You had to queue for breakfast if you arrived at 9 or after. Price of place's popularity.
Review 110:Excellent staff and service . Lovely setting.
Review 111:The staff were very welcoming and polite and the food was great. Everything stated on the website is what you'll find when you get here. The view, food and staff are all excellent.
Review 112:Shower area too small & also room. The Donna made us too warm & there was no sheet to use instead. We would have liked a small bar fridge & more storage for our cases in the room.also we would have liked washers
Review 113:The variety of food for breakfast.
Review 114:Very comfortable bed. Lovely views. Large room. Wi-fi & customer computer. Hot & cold breakfast with organic food, catered for everyone. Brilliant stay!
Review 115:Dinner menu expensive and not massive selection so did not eat dinner here.
Review 116:Reception staff efficient and friendly. Hotel generally clean and welcoming, set in very pleasant grounds. Breakfast excellent, bacon and sausage delicious. Dining room staff friendly, smiling and attentive. Ample parking, albeit some a distance from hotel. Room comfortable, clean and apparently recently decorated. Leisure facilities good.
Review 117:Only downside is the wifi, it connected but not all that great.
Review 118:This is a beautiful hotel in a good location, situated not so far from the local town. The view is nice, and the rooms are immaculate, and of great comfort, the bed to be precise.. I Would definitely recommend to book here and would stay here again..
Review 119:The only small issue was the internet kept cutting out.
Review 120:We came on our honeymoon and the hotel was lovely. Staff were so friendly and helpful, food was AMAZING! The room was very clean and tidy and a good size for the 2 of us, very comfy bed. Theres a lovely swimming pool and we had a fabulous massage. Would definitely recommend for a romantic break and its well situated in the Lakes so ideal for exploring.
Review 121:When we visited Alexanders, 'the pub' i felt a little let down that it was more like a cheap restaurant than the comfortable pub feel where you can usually sit at the bar or wherever you like. We had to wait for our orders taken which took a long time considering the waiters weren't busy, and even longer when we were given the desert menu, although I would like to add that the meals were delicious.
Review 122:Facilities, pool and steam room added value for money as well as bar/pub/restaurant. Also the rooms were spacious and the design made you feel comfortable.
Review 123:The meal we selected needed improving. Salmon starter looked pretty but the salmon was so thin it made less than a mouth full. My lamb (the main course) comprised of three strips of meat which combined was less than that - that would make a cheap beef burger it came with a fondant potato which had the same volume as three chips on my wife's sirloin steak meal. In other words it was little more than a starter. Very nicely presented and cooked but meagre very meagre rations. We did not eat there again
Review 124:Good hotel well managed.
Review 125:Restaurant food was just ok, and expensive ,food the the "pub" was awful, overpriced and badly presented and tasteless Room numbers from 250 upwards are on a floor without a lift, there are over 27 stairs to climb, may be difficult for anyone who has walking difficulties or if you have heavy luggage. This was not mentioned at check in
Review 126:Not much tbh
Review 127:The room was not big enough for an extra bed. Asked for a queen size bed, got 2 single. The desk staff was mediocre. There is no cart to help you with luggage and the rooms can be far away. The gym is too small and overcrowded.
Review 128:Breakfast buffet is good.
Review 129:Mould in the shower recess as well as grout missing from shower tiles. There was no allocated parking for guests accommodated at the hotel, it was basically first in gets a spot. Most car bays taken by pub guests or wedding function guests.
Review 130:Relatively clean room.
Review 131:Staff were very unhelpful and rude especially in the restaurant. Food is good but the attitudes of the staff and reluctance in allowing you to sit where you want is shocking! You almost feel like you're being schooled
Review 132:Staff were very unhelpful and rude especially in the restaurant. Food is good but the attitudes of the staff and reluctance in allowing you to sit where you want is shocking!
Review 133:Friendliness of staff and their attention to detail.Free wi fi was excellent. The restaurant was first clas.Bedrooms although quite small were well furnished and spotlessly clean.
Review 134:The wifi was very poor
Review 135:The location was very good. Very easy to get to the place by train from London and Kendal town was within walking distance of the hotel very beautiful location and surroundings
Review 136:overall stay was overpriced for a standard double midweek....
Review 137:Evening meal was very nice and good value and great gardens. Also a good base to explore the lakes ...great breakfasts
Review 138:First impressions on all facets was excellent,, please give a big thankyou to Heather on the desk when we arrived, she was so friendly, and the upgrade to that room was just magnificent, highly recommend it
Review 139:Really happy with my stay. The bedrooms were well appointed, and the bed itself was very comfortable. Staff were welcoming and very polite. Hotel and grounds were very well maintained.
