Reviews for Atholl Arms Hotel

Review 1:Met by rather grumpy gent on desk possibly the owner. To give benefit of the doubt it was a very busy time (hogmany)

Review 2:Location was lovely hotel good but no lift. Toilet down a set of stairs in room a bit inconvenient in the dark

Review 3:Didn't know the area but would probably stay somewhere a bit larger such as Aberfeldy, Dunkeld is very small.

Review 4:Very friendly staff, good breakfast included and large room. Good views of the River Tay.

Review 5:Our twin beds were very uncomfortable and too firm for our liking but that's about it.

Review 6:Stayed at the Atholl many times and I think it's good value with friendly and helpful staff

Review 7:The suite was fine in virtually every respect, however I recommend they get a nicer double bed, why not a lovely big four poster? That would make the room even more special. Also the comp toiletries in the bathroom were cheap, why not Molton Brown or Gilchrist and Soames? Come on guys, maximise the potential of our best room in the house! You need to impress the guests to get them back. Finally, what about a living flame fire in the fireplace? This would be wonderful.

Review 8:Friendly welcome and the hotel was warm and clean. The Suite was nice and warm also, but see the comment re the bed.

Review 9:Unfortunately parking wasn't a huge issue but a bit inconvenient but hopefully your renovations will rectify. Since it was a November break hotel room was v cold suggest you put heating on say 1 hour before arrival in winter months

Review 10:Food was excellent. Cleanliness was v good. Staff made you welcome

Review 11:had a great stay and would go back for a weekend if passing by

Review 12:lovely old hotel with comfy facities log fire near the pubs and shops of Dunkeld. live music in the foyer. nice to stay in a hotel that still has public areas to sit in and talk to other guests

Review 13:Cooked breakfast was a bit mean and the service was slow. Car parking wasn't available due to landscaping work but this wasn't an issue as parking was available nearby.

Review 14:Very helpful and friendly staff at reception and the room was clean and comfortable. 11am checkout is good.

Review 15:Main issue is that bedroom suite could be transformed from a really nice room to something really special with some small changes. Wonderful fireplace is boarded up with rather ugly black panel board. Great feature that should be the centrepiece of the room but frankly disappoints. Appreciate coal fire might not be practical but coal effect gas fire equivalent to that found in main downstairs lounge would be a massive improvement. Modern white sockets should be replacement with antique style to match the rest of a really nice room.

Review 16:Really nice location for wandering round the town and lovely view onto the river. Room was spacious ,clean and hotel has retained many of the original features which is great. Staff generally attentive.

Review 17:Power point in bedroom did not work, lighting in bedroom hopelessly inadequate & NO LIFT!!! Also not enough surfaces in bedroom to 'put things on'!

Review 18:Location and common areas of hotel. Also attitude of staff. Breakfast and bathroom both excellent.

Review 19:The hotel was cold. I have said this before, but it has not changed. I hate eating in a cold room. Bathroom was baltic, with only a towel rail to heat the room.

Review 20:The hotel overall was great.

Review 21:Very welcoming and attentive staff room comfortable, great dinner menu in the meeting place or dinning room, excellent breakfast choice, would stay again when in the area.

Review 22:Décor was dull, and the service could have been better. The roast partridge for dinner was almost inedible.

Review 23:we stayed in the suite - a huge room, with great views.

Review 24:Our Bedroom very old fashioned and in need of refurbishment , shower was a pain to get to the correct temperature and bed wasn't great

Review 25:Downstairs Reception room, Breakfast and view from bedroom

Review 26:Uncomfortable bed/pillows, a little mean with the tea/coffee in the room and no biscuits! Not a budget room rate but had that feel. Could have booked a budget twin room, but wanted a double so paid the extra, what I got was the budget room with the beds pushed together, felt a bit cheated.

Review 27:Friendly staff, good Breakfast

Review 28:Flushing the toilet -- the noise was deafening!

Review 29:The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful and made us feel very much at home as we came and went. The location was fabulous and we loved the open area in the reception area where one could relax . Rooms were quiet . The evening bistro menu suited our purpose and got the thumbs up from us and our friends . We have already recommended it to others.

Review 30:Shortage of staff lack of toiletries, towels etc Lack of tables for breakfast, all had used crockery on them. minimal breakfast compared to cheaper hotels

Review 31:Not much

Review 32:Really beautifully decorated hotel, great location and very comfortable beds. I had a riverside view which was really stunning and the room was spacious and warm. Every single member of staff was friendly and helpful and made me feel extremely welcome. I was leaving each morning before breakfast was served so they kindly made me a packed lunch instead. I cannot recommend this hotel enough, I will most definitely be coming to stay again.

Review 33:Greeting at reception poor. Bedroom and bathroom needs completely refurbished. Large pipe running across floor at window which we couldn't open.

Review 34:Location in centre of Dunkeld good. Public areas good.

Review 35:Noise from street which is outwith hotel control, only a minor negative.

Review 36:Location fantastic with stunning views over River Tay. All staff so friendly and polite.

Review 37:Everything could not have been better except bed side lighting made it impossible to read but the staff said they would look into it right away and rectify it.

Review 38:Staff were initially very unhelpful regarding early checkin but situation was quite easily resolved. Bed extremely uncomfortable - rolled into middle. Had difficulty opening windows in room. Decor very tatty.

Review 39:Breakfast was good.

Review 40:All staff were very helpfull breakfast was very good one of the best we have ever had wiFI was very good and free we had a bar meal and it was also very good we would go back

Review 41:Wonderful staff, let us check in early for a wedding in Dunkeld Cathedral and were so helpful and friendly throughout our stay. Beautiful setting for hotel with views over river. Great breakfast. Would definitely recommend.

Review 42:Alan, the manager, and his staff were really accommodating & friendly. We had intended staying 1 night but added an extra one. Great location. Best breakfast of our 15 day trip. Will return.

Review 43:It was a bit noisy - inside rather than outside - as fellow guest(s) were up and down the passage way until 01.30 on one night. No shouting but creaky floors. Would have liked a plain yogourt choice at breakfast!

Review 44:Hotel was a nice mix of old and new. We had a budget room facing the Co-op store and over the rooftops to the catherdral. We had one evening meal in the Meeting Place which was very tasty and a bit different, and was good value. Liked that people could bring their dogs into the hotel.

Review 45:Bed was quite narrow. Very dated (not in a good way) decor. Needs considerable investment and some guidance from Jeffries, the fab designer next door.

Review 46:Location by river and town centre

Review 47:Breakfast was a bit sparse if the full breakfast wasn't ordered. Had expected more than one poached egg with one slice of bacon

Review 48:Excellent location, very well appointed and clean rooms and wonderful staff.

Review 49:The bed in our first room was very uncomfortable and we got very little sleep.

Review 50:The very pleasant & helpful staff made it a pleasure to stay here. The bed in our second room was newer, larger & very comfortable.

Review 51:Received a free upgrade to one of the rooms with river view. Roomy bathrooom. Room is a bit dated but well maintained. Staff was extremely friendly. Location was perfect. Just a few meters to the cathedral in Dunkeld. Loved the breakfast.

Review 52:The facilities are a bit dated. Again, exactly what I expected and it wasn't an issue

Review 53:A charming old place in a charming old town. Exactly what I was looking for. And the customer service was exceptional

Review 54:Great location in the town, next to a pub with live folk music and across the river. The breakfast was absolutely superb - the best one during our 1 week trip in scotland!

Review 55:The price. We paid £144. I would have expected to pay around £80-100 for the type of hotel, but realise these places do need to survive.

Review 56:The staff were good. The hotel is nice and fairly typical of this type of rural town inn in Scotland.

Review 57:As soon as we walked in there was a strong smell of fish ( we think although the bar toilets were close to reception). Some of the staff weren't very friendly. Had to cross a busy road from the carpark to the hotel. No lift to 3rd floor and stairs were not level at places. Shower was either burning hot or freezing cold.

Review 58:Was at the start of the town with plenty of parking and beautiful views. Breakfast was good.

Review 59:minor point but it's really noisy if you get a room facing the street - maybe thats reflected in the great price we got. try and get one overlooking the river.

Review 60:breakfast really good - beds are comfy and rooms now have flat screen TVs. WIFI is everwhere and really reliable. We also liked the fact that there is a range of different places in the hotel to drink and eat.

Review 61:The room décor was a bit tired. Not much in the way of bathroom products - no shower gel or bath foam provided. Could have done with a better bed.

Review 62:View over the river from the room was delightful. Excellent bar and breakfast. Staff friendly and efficient. Nice terrace and beer garden to relax in especially when it was sunny. Comfortable lounge with newspapers when it was not.

Review 63:May be nice to provide water in the rooms? May also be nice to provide more than 'basic' toiletries, hair conditioner? Body lotion?

Review 64:Such nice rooms, decorated to evoke a sense of calmness and tranquillity. Helpful staff and good food.

Review 65:We liked everything. No negatives. Would pick a larger room for a longer stay.

Review 66:Reception and all staff were very friendly and helpful. Room and en-suite were compact but perfectly fine (room 4). Food was excellent and reasonably priced. Had cask beer - unusual in an hotel. Lounge area and garden overlooking river were lovely. Entrance to car park is easy to miss as it is immediately round the corner next to the bridge. Dunkeld is pretty and worth an hour or two to walk round even if you are just passing through like we were.

Review 67:We stayed in room 18. We paid extra for a room with a river view. You could only see this, if you stud right next to the window. If the bed was put on the opposite wall you would have a wonderful view of the river. It was just a shame when we sat on our bed you could not see the river or the bridge!

Review 68:The shower did not stay at a constant temperature when in use.

Review 69:We were there during the three best weather days of the year and that helped. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 70:The staff seemed a bit harassed and understaffed particularly at breakfast.A few more smiling happy faces would help!

Review 71:A most enjoyable experience! We have stayed now on several occasions and are looking forward to the next time that we are in the area! The lounge is particulary appealing and comfortable!A great place for a weary traveller to relax!

Review 72:The double bed we had needs new mattress. The linen was clean and fresh.

Review 73:The position of the hotel is great, Staff very helpful, food was good except the porridge ( I think it was microwaved from a packet, it was lumpy and not properly cooked).

Review 74:The evening meal was an inventive presentation of well cooked local food. Even although the staff were rushed off their feet they nevertheless were very helpful and attentive.

Review 75:The charm of the town, the friendly staff, our incredible upgrade to a stunning suite and a fabulous breakfast. The style of the hotel itself is warm, comfortable and yet luxurious.

Review 76:I thought about leaving a snagging list as the room which was number 4 had a number of faults. The shower tray plughole was blocked. The light above the wash hand basin kept flickering and eventually went off. The bedside light lampshade was not secure. The duvet on the bed was wafer thin. The towel rail bracket was broken. The shower itself was dirty. The selection of tv channels was abysmal, thank god for Wi-Fi which was the saving grace as I watched sky go on my smart phone. The full Scottish breakfast was Spartan.

Review 77:The location

Review 78:Nothing

Review 79:The location of the hotel & the lovely riverside views. Located within Dunkeld therefore easy access to shops. The quaint country character of the place.

Review 80:Night staff locking bar and ground floor toilets telling my wife she could use the lane outside if she wished when she enquired of which toilets she could use!

Review 81:Accommodation of cycle racers for an early breakfast

Review 82:The service was very good, staff were attentive, courteous and friendly. Nothing is too much bother. A special early breakfast was laid on for our group at no extra cost to our stay.

Review 83:The only down side to are stay was the bar man alan his attitude and general manner was offal I found him hostel and grim there rest of the staff are a credit

Review 84:I love the bilding the open fires and the pets and wonderful food I will make a point of comeing back year after year

Review 85:Toiletries in standard rooms were very basic - no hand lotion or proper shampoo and conditioner. Bed was ok but found myself rolling down into the centre. Would have liked the bed to offer a flat surface without slipping into the middle. However, it was ok.

Review 86:Excellent breakfasts in a very pleasant restaurant overlooking the River Tay. Excellent location for exploring the region. Aesthetically pleasing and nice to come back to each day. Warm and cosy.

Review 87:The mattress definitely needed replacing!! Expensive steak which was miniscule although well cooked & very tasty. Breakfast was beautifully presented but the coffee was undrinkable. Reading between the lines it would appear that the staff/chef are running to a tight budget & corners are cut?

Review 88:Really friendly & helpful staff. Wifi was good & room was clean. Beautiful location.

Review 89:First room we were put into was dingy, miserable and tired looking. View was of a slated roof on an adjoining building.

Review 90:Alternative room better than initial one we were allocated

Review 91:staff quite unhelpful on checking in when asked about any events on that Saturday even though hotel book in room says ask us for advice. Told us it would be what we make it! Also mixer shower very difficult to regulate.

Review 92:Nice hotel, lovely location.

Review 93:People are so friendly, the hotel was excellent friendly staff, spotlessly clean, and the breakfast was AMAZING!!!!! And to finish it of beautiful view of the Tay xx

Review 94:Nothing we didn't like.

Review 95:The staff were extremely helpful and obliging and couldn't do enough to make our stay with our dog enjoyable. They went out of their way to provide us with everything and more that we required. If you're travelling with your dog this is the place to stay.

Review 96:We stayed for two nights last weekend to attend a wedding. The location was stunning, the facilities in the hotel were excellent, the food in the restaurant was to a very high standard and there was a good veggie selection. The room was spotless, bed was very comfortable and breakfast was great (again a good veggie selection). The crowning glory of the hotel were the staff; they literally couldn't do enough for us and were very friendly and welcoming. Such a fabulous hotel and location, we will definitely be making the 6 hour drive to visit again!

Review 97:We were in a budget room, so got what we paid for.

Review 98:It is in a lovely location with great views of the river. There are ample areas either inside or out to sit and relax and watch the world going by. All the staff were really nice and pleasant.

Review 99:Staff very friendly and helpful. Also they let us have breakfast in the lounge so we could have the dog with us. Lenny (the dog] says thanks very much for his water and biscuits every morning

Review 100:People and staff of Dunkeld very warm and welcoming. Had lunch in Perth Arms Hotel which was first class!! Later that same evening we had dinner at Howies and that too cannot be faulted. The weather however......

Review 101:Only gripe was the WiFi. My room was on the top floor and the wifi signal was next to useless. Down on the ground floor it was fine.

Review 102:Great location, food was great, staff brilliant. A very relaxing week. Will be back sometime soon.

Review 103:Nothing really. Staff & hotel was top notch.

Review 104:Great location with newly renovated rooms. Lovely building with Character. The food serves on an evening was superb as was breakfast in the morning. The hotel pub was also a great way to spend a cold afternoon.

Review 105:Our room was not serviced during our stay, but everyone else's was - so I believe that was not intentional. the pillows on the bed are very, very uncomfortable being filled with small pieces of sponge. The Atholl Arms allow pets and there were 3 dogs during our visit - the one barked every time anyone moved and the owners could not control it.

Review 106:The staff were very friendly and they helpful. The Breakfast menu was very comprehensive and the quality of food was also very good. We had dinner in the restaurant on our first night there and the meal was very good, albeit I have never seen such a small piece of sea bass previously. The room we were in, had a very large bathroom and it seems it was refurbished when compared to the other rooms in the Hotel that were allocated to our friends. The location is very good as it is in the centre of town and the River Tay flows outside at the bottom of the parking area..

Review 107:Bar area lacked atmosphere

Review 108:Old pub/hotel on high st in Dunkeld a grand old Scottish town. Residents lounge was relaxing and comfortable. Service was excellent and staff very friendly.

Review 109:mosaic on front step needs finishing bathroom fan in room 4 is a little noisy

Review 110:location in historic town of Dunkeld and by the river Tay Georgian interior and exterior main lounge is very comfortable good breakfast choices

Review 111:Fan in toilet very noisey room 15.

Review 112:Staff were very attentive and helpful. Hotel was very clean and well presented. Location was good for local attractions.

Review 113:Nice place both the hotel and the village, we stayed in a twin room traveling up to Inverness for work then decided to stop there again on our way back, pleasant staff nice rooms if we're working that way again I'm sure we'll look to book in

Review 114:not one thing

Review 115:From the moment you drive over the bridge and see the Atholl Arms to the right, you know something magical is about to happen. My husband and I were married in Dunkeld 20 years ago and we had the opportunity to revisit in 2014 and, once again, stay at the Atholl Arms. The staff, our room, the complete friendliness and home-like feeling, the restaurant, the pub - everything was wonderful. We have new memories now...

Review 116:The helpful staff. The comfy bed and nice room. The wonderful food ( venison sausages with mash a medley of vegetables and a red wine jus, delicous). A fine selection of malt whisky at the bar. A great lounge with comfy chairs perfect for enjoying a book, live music and a glass of malt.

Review 117:Probably the bedroom we were in could do with a little bit of modernising, but not a major problem.

Review 118:The very friendly welcome especially to our four legged friend. Coal fires and cosy atmosphere. Food good. We could step out the hotel and wander around town.

Review 119:I had originally booked for 2 nights but unexpectantley I couldn't stay for the second night. I did notify reception but they still charged me the full amount. I will never stay again and I have told a lot of people who stay there on a regular basis how I was treated.

Review 120:Asked for sceambled eggs and toast for breakfast and the portion of eggs was less than my partners full breakfast which included scaambled eggs, poor showing.

Review 121:Good hotel

Review 122:No criticisms of the hotel. I didn't like having to leave!

Review 123:Great location and view from room; friendly staff; cozy lounge area; fantastic food and wine in the restaurant; comfortable bed.

Review 124:A bit pricy for a small second floor room - we decided to forego breakfast.

Review 125:Very comfortable beds and fluffy towels. Room was spotless and 'well cared for'. Lovely lounge downstairs with log fire.

Review 126:Floors are a bit wonky, this is a feature of a few of the older buildings in Dunkeld, one that I enjoy after a few drinks at the bar!!!

Review 127:As a regular visitor to Dunkeld I have stayed in all of the local hotels. This is my favorite, staff are friendly, breakfast is worth getting up for and evening meals are very good quality. Front rooms have great views out onto the River Tay.

Review 128:Friendly, helpful staff. Comfy beds and rooms. Excellent breakfast (and choice of breakfast) in very pleasant dining room. Good general facilities (dining room, lounge, bar, bistro). Visited during a festival week, so it was nice and lively - and yet quiet in the rooms. Excellent location. Our third stay and will stay again.

Review 129:Decor of room needed updating. Door to bathroom creaked loudly (a drop of oil on the hinges would not go amiss)

Review 130:Bed comfortable Location of Hotel Was Ideal

The Fine Print
