Reviews for The Rochford Hotel
Review 1:Me and my partner stayed on new years eve we was met by Sarah at reception she showed us to our room she is 100 % the best host I have ever had the joy of meeting and she made out new years eve brilliant thank you Sarah for everything we will definitely be returning soon lots of love mick and elise x
Review 2:No central heating in rooms meant that room was freezing on Arrival. No fruit at breakfast at all, not even the tinned stuff. Coffee at breakfast was poor.
Review 3:There were unfortunately a couple of issues with the room I was allocated which were reported and after a short discussion I was reallocated to a free upgrade room. In addition the cost of my evening meal was waived as I had been inconvenienced.
Review 4:This hotel is literally 200 yds from Rochford Train Station, so is ideal for travelling either to Southend or London. The airport may also be easily reached either by bus, train, or taxi. The food and customer service is also very good.
Review 5:Lots of noise very early in the morning! And was given a disabled room with wet room but i really wanted a bath!
Review 6:Lovely rooms, clean, lovely staff, very good that free coffee/tea and water in room plus free breakfast!
Review 7:DO NOT EAT HERE, better off at the greasy spoon down the road.... Waiter, obnoxious and not very sympathetic to the 'customer'. General Ambiance, felt a bit like a ghost town. Shame cos the place is attractive!
Review 8:Nice decor, comfortable and good sized room, powerful shower, wifi and parking
Review 9:We had a 6am flight check in so no option of breakfast although it was part of package - cereal or pastry option might have been nice
Review 10:Location and value for money was good and polite staff. We had an issue with our room - staff sorted it with fuss
Review 11:We arrived on the 14th November the staff were very friendly and polite, we were informed there was a wedding reception in the evening until 12pm but as we were dining out this did not affect us, breakfast was very good in a lovely conservatory, once again good service and our check out was quick and easy, we shall definitely return excellent value for money
Review 12:Staff do everything to make your stay the best. Food good in the restaurant hot freshly prepared by chef.Good breakfast .Perfec porridge. Extremely close to train station with many trains to London. One stop to airport.Makes travelling very civilised with no Hassel.
Review 13:We were disappointed at the lack of a lift and stair rail and the somewhat steep stairs. Our room lacked wardrobe accommodation of the sort we would expect.Evening meal service is restricted as to days and times and the menu is limited as to range and choice.
Review 14:We were favourably impressed with the cleanliness and decor of the areas we saw. The continental self-service breakfasts suited us very well. The reception desk staff were friendly and caring.
Review 15:Car parking was an issue, not enough spaces to cater for the size of hotel. Perhaps the hotel could negotiate permits for the large local authority car park opposite for their guests. Limited menu and tables allocated for evening meals.
Review 16:No lift although help with bags offered. Took payment from card before I had checked out was going to use different card.
Review 17:Good value extra tea and coffee if needed .excellent breakfast freshly cooked.comfortable bar area.Good standard room
Review 18:Didn't have a bad experience. The only thing I would suggest is a slight extension to the breakfast times. At present it is 7am to 9am. I realise for the business traveller this is fine, but for those on a mini break having to be up and ready for breakfast at 9am at the latest is a bit much to ask. Also when we did arrive at breakfast at 8.45 all the orange juice had gone and also the fresh fruit bowl was empty with no indication of it being refilled. Breakfast served till 9am should be 9am with all the facilities and foodstuffs as advertised still available. Also the fresh coffee maker was broken so we had to make do with a coffee sachet and hot water which was another disappointment.
Review 19:Close proximity to the wedding venue we were guests at.
Review 20:There is a busy road nearby which was noisy until well past 1.30am and also some sort of big hotel fan outside one window, which came on and went off periodically Throughout the night. I improvised some earplugs out of cotton wool and was fine . Not a room for light sleepers, but really very nice if noise is not an issue for you.
Review 21:The room was lovely and spacious and bright (room 10) with double aspect. Overlooking the garden on one side. Very comfortable small double bed (classed as a single, but could probably sleep 2 adults at a pinch) Tons of very hot water, I had a lovely long soak in the bath. (There is a shower over the bath too)
Review 22:There is nothing in their advertisement to suggest that this hotel is not good for people with mobility issues.Stairs were a problem but no groundfloor room was offered just the male receptionist said he would take our luggage for us.
Review 23:It was quite a wait to get the food we ordered in the restaurant in the evening
Review 24:Bed was very comfortable and location was good being so close t the town centre
Review 25:Noise from outside in the early hours.I did not mind music until midnight due to wedding party but it seemed noisy from other people in the area.
Review 26:Location.Parking and room comfort.
Review 27:Unfortunately their was a private function on so bar/restaurant facilities were unavailable until later which wasn't ideal due to an early morning start.
Review 28:I cannot fault anything about this hotel except the private function that was held. The staff were very polite, food was amazing and the room was fantastic.
Review 29:I rarely review our stays but we enjoyed this so much that I want to give a great review for this hotel. The staff were friendly, the room was perfect, the breakfast was perfect and it was great value for money. We actually stayed in a room designed for guests with physical impairments. Although no disability myself I was impressed with the thought that they had put into the design.
Review 30:No plug point near the mirror, no mirror over dressing table. Also towel rail in bathroom in the way of sitting straight on wc, needs putting higher on the wall (room 15)
Review 31:Breakfast superb
Review 32:Toilet was a bit clunky and right next to the door so was slightly uncomfortable.
Review 33:Friendly service even though we were late. Nice, clean, big, bright room. with all the amenities we needed. Catered to our food requirements with no fuss (Gluten free bread & Almond milk)-very impressed with this.
Review 34:excellent service especially the young man serving dinner and breakfast the size of the room and it's comforts. the evening meal was great value for money as was the whole experience. Thank you all very much.
Review 35:So "On trend" it was gloomy. All paintwork grey and a shade of it on the walls with only a deep red for relief. No doubt Morrissey would think it sublime! Bathroom lights and fans not working in both the rooms we were offered. The second room had so little space between the end of the bed and furniture (less than 600mm) that it made the room feel very cramped. Shape of toilet pan and the (loose) seat didn't match and the clamp that held the shower head was loose meaning you couldn't direct the shower exactly where you wanted it. We waited almost an hour for our meal to be served after ordering. Difficulty in actually finding the entrance to the hotel which has an address on a road from which there is no access. A map with explicit directions would be so easy to put on the website and is indicative of the lack of attention to detail.
Review 36:There was nothing about this hotel that made it stand out from the crowd.
Review 37:I've stayed at the Rockford Hotel many times over the last year on business trips, and I have always found the staff to be very friendly and helpful - it's the reason I go back time after time. I am transgender, and it's made no difference to how I am treated. Staff are courteous, chatty and ready to help.
Review 38:The spotlight in the shower didn't work and one was hanging out, reported to reception and it was dealt with promptly
Review 39:Very helpful staff, nothing was too much trouble Breakfast was first class
Review 40:The restaurant was good for breakfast but I didn't eat there for my evening meal because there was no atmoshere.
Review 41:Everything was good apart from my decison not to eat in the restaurant during the evening. (see opposite)
Review 42:It is down as a hotel? but the bar shuts at 11.00pm so even as a resident you were unable to get a drink from the bar if you returned late. Surely there is or should be a night porter who could serve??? There were five of us sat in the bar talking and we all had the same complaint.
Review 43:Very Clean and central for where we wanted to go. Easy to get to from the main London to southend road.
Review 44:The bed was a little uncomfortable but myself and the wife have bad backs, so what is uncomfortable for us may not be for others.
Review 45:The service you get from this hotel is 5 star all the staff are polite, Friendly and very helpful. You get a 5 Star service at a 3 star price. The Breakfast was included in the price and I would say if you stay there try there fry ups best I have ever had.
Review 46:Couldnt use the bar as there was a wedding even that we could get one sent to are room but its not the same and also was not told about and food that is why we eat out but would stay there again
Review 47:Everything was clean and nice place to stay and not far from south on sea
Review 48:Car park is a little small, not many spaces available and would have to use the pay-to-park car park next door if you didn't get a space quick enough
Review 49:Amazing price and free car park on site, breakfast included and amazing location - 15 mins from Southend seafront! Great staff and facilities, loved it!
Review 50:Shame the gym hasn't got any free weights/machines
Review 51:Excellent service all round, very polite and helpfull staff. Great quality & choice of breakfast. Very clean and tidy throughout.
Review 52:We had a bath but wasn't able to use it due to the water not filling the bath only the shower. To be fair I didn't mention this to the staff and Iam sure if we did they would have helped with that. We were limited on time so I didn't.
Review 53:Staff were lovely the breakfast was good quality. The rooms are a good standard and well equipped for a relaxing stay.
Review 54:The bed I stayed was very uncomfortable and wasn't able to sleep well for the two nights I slept there . I also was bitten twice also was very hot in room
Review 55:The staff were very friendly and alway said good morning and hello when passing by
Review 56:The bathroom was the only going in the room that was dated. This needs modernising and a bit of money spent on it. New shower unit and maybe a new bath and shower window instead of an old fashioned shower rail.
Review 57:The communal areas are excellent. Friendly staff, modern layout, off road parking, good breakfast, large flat screen tv with a few treats
Review 58:Th staff were really willing to do everything they could to make the stay as good as possible. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Also very fast through to Southend airport in the morning, while not being a standard 'airport hotel'.
Review 59:didnt get the wakeup call we requested
Review 60:lovely hotel, have stayed before, great bed, great breakfast, décor really nice, overall a great little hotel, would defo stay again.
Review 61:the hotel was great for b&b, the lunch and food in the evening were only light meals , but there was a good variety of pubs and restaurants locally. try the Grey Goose
Review 62:the staff were exceptionally friendly and nothing was too much trouble. the facilities were excellent. the breakfast was good.
Review 63:My only moan was our room was very hot due to the mini heatwave we are having but this was rectified in a click by a member of staff equipped with a fan . The staff went above and beyond at every opportunity , thank you :)
Review 64:It was a truly enjoyable stay from the moment we stepped through the door till the day we left .
Review 65:The numpty in room 7 who appeared to a hotel regular and wanted to wake the whole floor up at 5.15 with his very VERY! loud alarm that he kept snoozing until 6am when i had a little strop!! He should show more consideration for others and learn not to be so selfish!!
Review 66:Couldn't fault the hotel - very very good
Review 67:Unable to check in after eleven o'clock. This requires staying elsewhere when I first travel to the area as I arrive after the check in deadline. I understand the situation (uneconomic to employ 24-hour reception staff), but it is still a disappointment.
Review 68:Price, breakfast, comfort.
Review 69:small room , very little space to move at end of bed. bathroom a bit dated. breakfast on Sunday between 8.30 and 9.30 although check out was 11am, would have been better to have a slightly later time for breakfast especially on a Sunday !
Review 70:Comfortable bed
Review 71:The postcode did not get us to the front door of the hotel, needs better explanation, and signage, difficult to drive as one way system we went around twice. Hotel sign is on the main road, but not the entrance, with car park.
Review 72:Need to replace the sachets of coffee for breakfast with real coffee! Plumbing can be noisy at times. Dinner facilities are not inviting, so tend to eat out.
Review 73:Friendly staff,cleanliness, great value,personable,comfortable beds.
Review 74:Close to airport (air traffic noise). Not too much parking space.
Review 75:Friendly staff. Decent sized rooms. Very well priced. Nice complimentary breakfast.
Review 76:Everything was good. Very convenient for Rochford railway station and Southend airport.
Review 77:Very comfortable bed with good bed linen. Liked the freshly breakfast cooked !
Review 78:as a smoker their idea of a smoking solution was an ashtray stuck on the wall just outside reception. This I felt was unfair to non smokers as they had no option but to walk past. A little more thought should also go to the smokers. A couple of chairs or bench would have made my stay more comfortable.
Review 79:everything about the hotel was fine. staff were very attentive.
Review 80:Other than breakfast no food available over the weekend, we had to go out in the rain foraging!
Review 81:Friendly efficient staff, nothing was too much trouble and the hotel itself was clean efficient with a lovely breakfast.
Review 82:The decor was lovely, clean and modern. The location to Southend airport was fantastic as that is why we stayed for close proximity for an early morning flight
Review 83:TV turning itself on at 4am - not so welcome! Breakfast whilst well stocked and mostly ok - one or two items could perhaps have been a little better cooked. Full details of wifi (e.g. password / login) could have been made available in the welcome guide (in room) Use of 1-5 scale (not 1-4) for this questionnaire - would contain more accurate / meaningful results (e.g. one or two average scores).
Review 84:Room was clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly. Competitively priced for people wishing to travel by car (i.e. free use of parking). Booking was effective, flexible and useful. I liked the overall hotel design.
Review 85:Only problem was traffic noise from busy road close to hotel.gets busy from about 6 am and windows not sound proofed.otherwise good value.
Review 86:Bedroom very pleasant and bed good. Bathroom good size and well equipped .Shower primitive and not easy to control temperature
Review 87:Scrambled eggs were slightly under done for my liking. but that's nothing major & was probably just me being me.
Review 88:Had a Fantastic time at this hotel was really beautiful & reasonable. We loved it so much we have booked the whole hotel & wedding venue for our wedding in December 2015. has a very friendly feel.
Review 89:The day we arrived was very cold, we found the temperature in our room and the restaurant to low.
Review 90:Staff very friendly and helpful. Dinner and breakfast excellent.
Review 91:Well ..ive stayed here a few times and apparently the staff hadnt recieved booking before i arrived in the evening (booked in the morning ) so when i came to check in for a room with a bath and they said they would move guests to allow me to have required room or just go into a room with out one i chose with out due to being far more simpler and could not be bothered with the aggravation of the whole scenario when i got into the room it was cold like really cold me and my partner both noticed it and the heater in the room was one of those old noisey electric jobs to which we had going full blast to warm up untill it got to sleep time to which the noise was too much and had to turn off to then get woken up in the middle of the night being cold again i also forgot to mention this room was also a disabled room to which i had been palmed off with staying in this was easy to distinquish with the disabled seat in the wet area for the shower and the red panic buzzer near the toilet with adjacent arm rests. At 10 am in the morning we were then woken up to the fire alarm to which maybe 5mins after hearing i started getting ready then the woman that worked there burst into our room whilst my partner was in bed asking if we had been smoking in our room which we hadnt we then were required to evacuate the building with the other disgusted patrons that all were piled into the carpark one with no shoes on and other guests in there night clothes still... This has done it for me in this instance at this hotel and i probobly will not
Review 92:The beds comfortable
Review 93:when i arrived room was like a fridge took ages for heater to warm room light outside seem to light the room and shutters did not block it out
Review 94:staff again very helpfull and enjoyed food and breakfast
Review 95:Toilet seat was very loose. We reported this the first morning and again the following day. We were then told it couldn't be fixed. At that point we were offered another room but as our stay was nearly over we declined. The staff were excellent but the management had not acted on their report about the toilet seat.
Review 96:All our 18 guests found all of their rooms (all 3 categories, Exec Suite, Exec Double & Standard Double) extremely well presented and comfortable. All said they would stay there again :-)
Review 97:No flannels other wise nothing else would be better if had a pool but is only a small hotel
Review 98:It's a very quite hotel nice food good staff feel at home lovely stay had a brilliant stay
Review 99:Car park and entrance hidden round the back, no signs on road to tell us where to go to access the hotel On our bathroom the heated towel rail was too close to the toilet.
Review 100:Near to Southend but away from the crowds Breakfast included Modern rooms recently refurbished
Review 101:Everything, this is the 3rd time wqe have stayed here. Fantastic breakfast. would be nice if the breakfast was a little longer and not so early but just a suggestion. Staff are fantastic
Review 102:room carpet was very worn and dirty, coat hanger were useless, there was stain on the bed covering, i had a full english in the morning and the bacon and hash was fried in the very old oil and it was uneatable.
Review 103:the price
Review 104:Not told when booking bar and restaurant would be closed. No reply from email concerning this matter. Receptionist made us feel like we were an inconvenience.
Review 105:room spacious and clean
Review 106:cant think of anything
Review 107:the staff, hotel, facilities were excellent and the room was well equipped, comfortable and ideal for us to get ready for family gathering
Review 108:Bath towels a bit small.
Review 109:Friendly/helpful staff. Excellent breakfast. Most comfortable bed in any hotel we have used. Good size rooms. The shutters on the windows. Free wi-fi that worked.
Review 110:Room was close to busy road so, despite double glazing, was noisy and early morning arrivals at airport prevented me sleeping after 5am. If you're a light sleeper ask if you can get a room away from the road.
Review 111:Convenient, clean, nicely decorated and good to have the usual drink making facilities in the room, easy free wifi access. Would use again subject to having a room away from the busy road.
Review 112:Difficult to find entrance very poor parking facility's no mini fridge not very hot water for shower and bath and could here the disco from the room
Review 113:Nice bed very comfortable decor nice very modern bottled water in rooms friendly staff breakfast ok but could have been larger
Review 114:The equipment in the gym needs maintenance e.g. the cross trainer made a loud groaning noise in use and bicycle seat was too loose to sit on. It was good to have a gym though.
Review 115:The friendly staff
Review 116:The windows were a bit tricky to shut, with them open the noisy road was evident. Once closed, however, it shut out the noise brilliantly. Lack of a lift to our room meant carrying a heavy bag a pain. The room we were in had been beautifully made over, although the bathroom still showed signs of its original dated features.
Review 117:The staff were engaging, attentive, friendly and helpful. They went way beyond expectation to make our stay a pleasant one. The room was decorated to a high standard, was spotlessly clean and the bed was huge and very comfortable.
Review 118:The breakfast was adequate but fruit wasn't topped up when nearlygone .an explanation of how the breakfast system worked from staff wouldhave been helpful .he wasn't around so we had to work it outourselves .
Review 119:The welcome of staff , that there was available an evening meal .roomclean and quiet . Overall ok
Review 120:We stayed 1 night as part of a holiday to England and found this independently run hotel raises the standard as far as 3 star is concerned. It has a boutique hotel feel and thanks to its friendly and helpful staff it provided an intimacy that we have not experienced in larger 4 star hotels. The freshly cooked full English breakfast has to be experienced to be believed, excellent quality, value for money and taste! This hotel is easily accessed from Southend on Sea by numerous buses and by rail from London. Would definitely return again.
Review 121:In the Bathroom the shower rail was very rusty, there was a hole in the plaster that had been left unfilled and unpainted, the toilet brush was disgusting, anti slip bathmat looked dirty, tile grouting was black with mould, shower curtain was stained and dirty. Towels were small. There was one member of Staff who was on Reception when we arrived, he then served us at Breakfast (without a serving cloth) and we also saw him sweeping up outside, it seemed like he was the only person there working!
Review 122:The size of the bed was great, breakfast was good. Soaps & shower cap, hairdryer, tea & coffee making facilities were provided.
Review 123:Decor was very old, bathtub was cracked, 2 spiders in bathroom, noticeable stains on throw over duvet, mirror and sinks in bathroom not cleaned, sheets had stains on them, shower curtain mouldy at the top, room VERY noisy (could hear people next to and opposite me). Asked for soy milk in the morning which was not possible - was given soy margarine which had mould in it. Not what I expect for what I paid.
Review 124:Location was excellent..
Review 125:Very limited parking and as I was a woman on my own and was going to be coming back from an evening meeting at 10.30pm this was a concern as I am unfamiliar with the area. Evening meals only being available between 7-9pm in Brasserie or 5-9pm room service was not ideal as I checked in at approx. 6.30 and was having to go to my meeting shortly after 7pm so did not have time to eat with you so as no late room service I ended up with a supermarket sandwich in my room.
Review 126:Very friendly and helpful staff
Review 127:Wedding reception was going on when I stayed on a Sunday night. Could not sleep as the party was directly under my room. And doors slamming shut when other guests arriving to their rooms.
Review 128:Not much really to like. Key card didn't work in door so had to get it re-activated. Very loud music and doors slamming by other guests. Doors do not close quietly so guests just let them close and results in the doors slamming shut.
Review 129:I had to leave!
Review 130:I have used the Rochford Hotel several times, each visit being better than the last. Fresh new decor, new windows which block out sound efficiently, blackout shutters, comfortable bed. Nice little touches like a bottle of mineral water in the room. All makes for good sleep. Genuinely friendly and courteous staff. Didn't have an evening meal, but the restaurant is nicely laid out, comfortable and again quiet. Delicious breakfast options whether the full English or continental style.
Review 131:The tables in the bar were not cleaned quickly enough for the next customer's use. Drinks were grossly overpriced thereby driving customers to local pubs.
Review 132:I like the room size and the hotel layout. The staff were welcoming and quite helpful.
Review 133:The position of the bed in room 10 - needs to be turned 90 degrees to face and then watch TV. Needs a Table Lamp of the Workstation
Review 134:Free Parking Free Wi-fi Free Breakfast Clean & Great Decor
