Reviews for County Hotel
Review 1:Kevin the manager was extraordinary.Incredibly nice but also helpful.Extremely professional. The location was perfect,5 minute walk into the centre of town.
Review 2:Fighting/arguing guests in nearby room and corridor, repeatedly and aggressively shouting 'I'm gonna stab you, you liar' from 2-3am. Not any fault of hotel staff.
Review 3:The bed was very comfortable and the room and hotel was very warm for a winter's night which was great. I'm a man for bargains when it comes to hotels and this is another bargain I found. The staff were brilliant and very helpful and parking was just across the road plus the hotel had a lift as I'm waiting on a knee operation and cant go up stairs. Will stay again.
Review 4:The second week of my stay was after the worst floods Cumbria has ever seen and the hotel had to shut as they had lost all mains power. I was given a full refund and staff tried to find alternative accommodation but none was available. They were very apologetic and did everything they could to help given the circumstances.
Review 5:Very friendly and professional staff. I was travelling with work and they arranged an early breakfast so I could get to work on time. Excellent value for money.
Review 6:It was last weekend at Kendal with the heavy floods so difficult to evaluate. Staff were very helpful under the circumstances but hotel is getting ready for a revamp, looks rather dated.
Review 7:We booked a family room, This had 3 single beds 1 of which was knackered, the springs had completely gone where you couldn't even lay on it without rolling off, (hence two adults sleeping in a single bed as no staff around to raise this with) did address this on leaving only to be told sorry love! £90 for 1 night & two single beds without breakfast being included was ridiculous.
Review 8:The reception staff were most often not there and left my bags, including lap top, unattended behind reception for over 10 minutes with the door open, so anyone could have taken them. The bell to call them did not work and I had to leave my key on the desk, as no one was around to check me out. Decor tired and badly in need of refurbishment, with a shower that was wholly inadequate and worse than a mixer tap shower head. Only soap provided and no shower gel or shampoo etc. Breakfast was the smallest portion I have had in years, with an under-cooked sausage I left and cheap produce (not in keeping with Lake District standards).
Review 9:It is very convenient for Kendal station (right opposite) and only a 5-10 minutes walk into the centre of Kendal (whoever said 20 mins must have used a zimmer frame and I know Kendal well!). It is adequate for an overnight stay, if you don't care too much about quality, though rooms clean, good linen and a comfortable bed. It's in a quieter part of town, though close enough for restaurants and pubs.
Review 10:none
Review 11:excellent friendly staff, a warm welcome when booking in, great location, only a Ten minute walk into the town. clean and warm hotel, lovely bar, entertainment area. excellent breakfast. would book and stay again.
Review 12:Breakfast only served between 0800 and 0930 .... Vacate room by 10 am ( with hangover )
Review 13:The staff were friendly and we made use of the late bar ! Lovely restaurants nearby
Review 14:No sound proofing in the room so heard every noise from next room. Very noisy floor from the bed room above. Room over main entrance door so every time someone entered the door banged. Could hear every conversation form reception below. No sleep so room not fit for purpose. The hotel is very tired and need of major work as the hole place squeaks. Informed staff but had no interest They do a lot of coach tours.
Review 15:Location good
Review 16:Kept us waiting at least 25 mins before they even come to us and check us in even though we rang the reception bell many times! The staff were just very ignorant and unhelpful
Review 17:Towels although clean were old and had stains. Bed , ( you could actually feel the springs in your hand) No soap in toilet / bathroom . Water kettle was filthy .
Review 18:Breakfast was ok .
Review 19:The bed was rather soft.
Review 20:Friendly, helpful staff and a nicely cooked breakfast. The bathroom was large and generally everything was clean and tidy. Our TV remote was broken and was promptly sorted out. Everything as described.
Review 21:The receptionist wasn't welcoming and didn't seem to know what she was doing. The bed was lumpy and the springs had gone. The curtains were different lengths to each other. The bedroom and bathroom need refurbishment. Paper was peeling in places. Sealant around the shower wasn't clean. Bathroom floor hadn't been cleaned properly..
Review 22:Location to Kendal town centre.
Review 23:There was not a curtain on the bathroom window, a window which overlooked a busy road. So I waited until morning for a shower!
Review 24:The staff were very friendly and attentive.
Review 25:Location is good only for an overnight - a good 20 minutes walk to the city centre. Staff is helpful but looks it could be better trained.
Review 26:Room was spacious, with perfect heating system and a renovated shower (bathroom was very roomy). Good clean bedding and towels. Great breakfast, lots of variety and tasty.
Review 27:The fact that they didn't serve food on a Saturday night. It would have been nice to know that ,as it was we had to go out again at night just to eat which was not convenient
Review 28:Location easy access to the town well within walking distance
Review 29:Wifi only available in bar, and very patchy. Got home, and found two emails I'd sent had remained stuck in draft because of intermittent wifi connection
Review 30:Nice spacious room, and large bathroom
Review 31:Friendly staff and clean rooms. Impressed by the presentation of the towels and bath mat. A small detail but shows the staff care. Tasty breakfast. Right next to the rail station.
Review 32:Very good value. Good breakfast with reasonable choice, simple food for evening meals, again with reasonable choice. Local parking if not on forecourt, easy access to town and bus station.
Review 33:All staff were very helpful and friendly, they also cooked us early breakfast on both occasions so we could carry on to Edinburgh to work. Stayed again on our return journey Stopping there again next week
Review 34:Lumpy bed Noisy, especially from entertainment on the ground floor . Our room was on the second floor- thankfully!!)
Review 35:Central location Basic but economic accommodation Adequate cooked breakfast Parking available immediately in front of hotel.
Review 36:No parking........
Review 37:Staff were friendly and helpfull. Best shower I had since I'd left home 3 weeks prior. It may be old but was very comfy and clean.
Review 38:£90 per night was definitely too expensive for our room. The bed was uncomfortable and the decor was poor.
Review 39:The room and bathroom were large and the view was lovely. The breakfast was really nice and staff were very friendly.
Review 40:breakfast asked but not given what i wanted.saying that we do not have. But the Indian guess eating what i wanted.I was very disappointed
Review 41:drink available in the room
Review 42:poor bathroom facilities, toilet difficult to flush, ended up being blocked. Poor breakfast, almost raw bacon, cheap beans and 'deep fried' sausage
Review 43:location - near to town centre
Review 44:No wifi, not very clean, no value for money very over priced, nothing like the picture!! Very dissapionted!!!!!
Review 45:The location was on a buzy road, very noisey!!! Not worth the money!!
Review 46:As above
Review 47:We didnt like anything the room was clean beds shocking and overall hotel was very depressing old carpet smelt of smoke street noise all night we weren't told the password for wifi in hotel lobby then we couldnt find anyone so we had to use our roaming data. The town looked a lot nicet on the internet than what it was. Sorry never again
Review 48:The room cleanliness was poor. Curtains hanging off rail.... Manager should try lying on the beds, very poor worn out mattress! The was dust on and under radiator. I was not looking for 4* for the money, but we still paid our money and would expect it to be clean and that folks would care about its presentation. Sorry I couldn't recommend the County Hotel.
Review 49:Very friendly staff. Dining room was clean and welcoming.
Review 50:Very dated. Not a good view from our window. Too little TV.
Review 51:Quite a good location. Price was fair. Staff were helpful and friendly. Nice clean towels daily. And room cleaned both days.
Review 52:The hotel is a little dated and management need to take a good look at the 'tools' the staff have to work with. But, despite all this we would stay again.
Review 53:The staff were ALL very very friendly and helpful. The room was adequate and served its purpose. Breakfast was very very nice.
Review 54:Beds Could be made better.
Review 55:Hotel is just Opposite Kendal Railway station. Travellers to Windermere can opt this hotel as cheapest but value for money, accessible, as an alternate option if they end up with huge cost for a days room in Windermere. Many Options to eat near by and Hotel itself has a very good restaurant.
Review 56:Room was adequate/comfortable but needed updating/decorating.
Review 57:Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Good location 5 minute walk into town centre. Breakfast was lovely.
Review 58:Friendly helpful staff, good location lovely town with some interesting shops as well as high street shops + countryside and art gallery. Just the thing for a quiet few days break. Didn't have breakfast, but it looked good.
Review 59:Bathroom in need of complete update Beds too soft and noisy Decor tired Overall appearance of hotel in need of an update OVERPRICED!!
Review 60:Staff were very accommodating, however, in consideration of the price of the room they were on a losing battle. The building and decor was extremely poor, beds too soft and noisy, bathroom needed a good update. Breakfast very good quality and staff extremely efficient. Receptionist upon arrival extremely good and even allowed our well behaved pet beagle into the hotel. Overall I think that the charge for this tired building was far too much.
Review 61:The decor was terrible, the whole place needs refurbishing. The bed was terrible, sleeping in it left me exhausted.
Review 62:The location was ok, not far from the town.
Review 63:Beds so uncomfortable ,2 of the 3 lights didn't work and TV and kettle were on an extension lead which during the night had to unplug as TV switch was flickering on and off .
Review 64:Location on busy mini roundabout with 'borrowed' (Lloyds pharmacy) car parking on opposite side of road
Review 65:Peace- no intrusive piped muzak. no tv in restaurant quick efficient restaurant service and a good breakfast
Review 66:Things missing off breakfast table like jam one day, napkin another day and two salt but no pepper, the amount of times I had to get up and help myself to resources from another table was ridiculous. On all three mornings the toast was cold and chewy but strangely toast rack was warm. On day two I arrived for breakfast at nine and the girl paid that she thinks they have finished serving but a lady said I could have breakfast. The fried egg was like a pebble and obviously not freshly made. Day one scrambled egg lovely texture but taste free. Needless to say I used the local chip shop at tea time.
Review 67:Location
Review 68:Apart from the road noise. The decor is a little dated and more attention to detail would help when decorating. We had no issue with the accommodation.
Review 69:We got what we paid for a room that was clean and tidy to sleep in a comfortable bed.
Review 70:Everything. Room was dilapidated, holes in wall, broken tiles, broken fixtures, no WiFi, mould in bathroom, broken furniture, bed very very uncomfortable, you could feel all of the springs in the bed. We left at 7 in the morning just to get away.
Review 71:Nothing
Review 72:Floorboards creaking in room and especially room above ensured no sleep to be had. Wifi only in reception. Bathrooms desperately need updating
Review 73:Central location
Review 74:Dated bathroom shower was near on impossible to get to right temperature Room was really noisy from road noise
Review 75:Bed was really comfortable room was a good size
Review 76:For the value I would expect a good bed without being able to feel the springs or without the bed Base actually moving when you got in it. The shower curtain was mouldy and the light at the entrance didn't work.
Review 77:Good shower and clean linen every day!!
Review 78:Hotel needs a revamp. Bathroom in particular. Wi fi only available in public areas
Review 79:Staff. They were very friendly and helpful, especially as I was a solo female guest. Breakfast was very good also.
Review 80:Absoloutely nothing everything Perfect
Review 81:The Hotel was in a great location right by the Railway Station, and 5 minutes in to town. The Hotel was very comfortable, the staff were excellent especially the man on reception who was most helpful. even though there was no evening meal being cooked on the Saturday he went out of his way and made me a prawn salad to have in my room when I was ready (it was delicious) thankyou..... Also helped me when I was leaving suggesting how to get back to North Wales I got home in 2 and half instead of the 6 hours which it would have been. Thankyou I could not fault the hotel, staff, and location. Definitely go back if visiting Kendal again.
Review 82:Lack of wifi in an old dated hotel. Can only be accessed downstairs but even then did not work. Was on a busy road and very loud in the room. This hotel may have been great in 1930 but is now dated.
Review 83:Bath tub where you can soak your feet after a long walk. Bed was comfy too.
Review 84:The mattresses must have been forty years old, we could feel every spring. The shower curtain was disgusting and there was mould on the bathroom walls. The whole place is well overdue for a major refit.
Review 85:Close to train station for those without a car. Friendly, helpful staff.
Review 86:Everything about this place was aweful - they had done the very basic job of keeping things just above Horrible. The bed was bad, the decor was poor, the staff was unfriendly, the room smelled - the bathroom was super basic and they did not even provide a handwash. Overall, not value for money at all. I would pay maximum 20 pounds per night for the facilities but had to pay four times that. Would recommend anybody not to go here. Absolute rip-off.
Review 87:as i was staying on business i feel if a hotel advertises wifi, then the place should have wifi that works in the hotel. i had important work to do but the only place i could get connected was on the stairs and as soon as i went into my room lost all connection. when i asked a staff member i was told we cant guarantee wifi in all areas. felt let down also feel rooms are over priced especially as breakfast is not included
Review 88:The noise was worst, as well as traffic, we could hear people talking in the next room. The hotel was very old-fashioned and needed a complete redecoration.
Review 89:Staff were generally polite and some were friendly. Parking was easier that I expected.
Review 90:Dust bunnies all round skirting boards, dirty valances on beds.Light fittings unsafe especially to say it was a family room! Bathroom outdated and poor condition, tiles falling off wall. TV no bigger that a tablet (10in) size! Mattress on bed lumpy, springs had gone and very uncomfortable. Manager didn't want to acknowledge fault with lights at all!
Review 91:Breakfast.
Review 92:No shower gel or soap so had to go shopping after very long day riding, room despite being on 3rd floor was over looked by another window only 4 feet from window (zero view) also limited breakfast times 8.30-9.00
Review 93:Goog location
Review 94:wifi not on all floors some windows not openable
Review 95:Nice welcoming place to stay bed breakfast with evening meals if required, The food was excellent well prepared and presented. Staff very pleasant and attentive at all times would certainly recommend a stay and will stay there again if in that area in the future
Review 96:bed springs were a bit 'twangy'! Coffee was not hot at breakfast
Review 97:Hotel is good valu location is good for exploring lakes staff friendly and helpful
Review 98:Parking on or near premises, cleanliness disgraceful, tea coffe and milk supplies not replenished or towels changed during our 3 day stay, the whole thing was an unmitigated disaster.
Review 99:Breakfast was acceptable
Review 100:No wifi in rooms at beginning of trip. But this was rectified with a new router during the stay. I believe wifi is available in all rooms now. Outdated rooms, but that's reflected in the price.
Review 101:Cheap single rooms, with money knocked off for not using breakfast facilities. Good for early rising contractors.
Review 102:Mattress getting a bit old with creaky inner springs WiFi did not work properly at the time of our visit but this seems to be more widespread in the area rather than the fault of the hotel.
Review 103:friendly staff great breakfast Convenient location
Review 104:We stayed on the second floor. We could not access the WiFi, which is frustrating, more so because the hotel management knew abt this already and have not don't anything to sort it.
Review 105:This is very close to the railway station. You won't have any difficulty finding it. The hotel is also just 5 minutes walk from the town centre.
Review 106:needs some updating but good for price
Review 107:staff very helpful friendly central location parking just across the road no problem breakfast excellent for price.
Review 108:Bed could have been comfier but overall stay was great
Review 109:Staff were ace friendly and helpful, full breakfast was fab didn't need wifi as full EE signal throughout hotel
Review 110:Would like to have seen a vegetarian option on the breakfast menu.
Review 111:Great location for rail station & only a few minutes walk from centre of Kendal. Hotel room was comfy & clean & staff were efficient.
Review 112:Whilst the bathroom appeared to have a shower, it was either just for show or should have come with an instruction manual (spent half an hour trying to get it to work, but forced to have a bath in the end). The radiator in the bathroom was constantly on, so we had to sleep with the window open, which was on the main road. To top it off, the bed (or rather mattress) was so uncomfortable, we got next to no sleep (springs coming up all over the place!) We also discovered an unsavoury stain on one of the spare toilet rolls - not sure if it was rust, but we weren't taking any chances! We were going to bring these points up at check-out, but were greeted by such an unwelcoming 'lady' that we just got out of there. I shall be making a written complaint to the establishment in due course. Certainly not worth £72 for room-only (and most disappointing, as we have stayed here before and didn't have any of these problems).
Review 113:The hotel is right across from the train station and a short walking distance from the town centre - prime location. The person who greeted us upon check-in was very friendly and helpful.
Review 114:The lift was small and needed some tlc, there was shortage of parking spaces for a longer stay than we had but we were able to stay outside the hotel and did not need to move the car.
Review 115:We found the staff to be very nice, they were all very pleasant and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them and the entertainment on Saturday night was surprisingly good.
Review 116:The hotel was convenient for transport, shopping, doing the riverside walk. The staff were friendly. There was a very good choice of food at dinner. All in all a happy experience.
Review 117:I found a toenail on the floor beside my bed, very off putting. The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. The wifi didn't work in our room and we were told it only works on the ground floor but even there it didn't work. Breakfast was unimaginative and basic. Despite all this the staff were helpful and friendly.
Review 118:The staff were helpful and trying to make the best of a dated and poorly equipped facility
Review 119:No wifi in bedrooms, just on ground floor. Mattress bit dodgy. Not the newest place ever but worth the money.
Review 120:We liked the staff. Very friendly and welcoming. How close the hotel was to the train station. Value for money.
Review 121:Room had not been hovered bits of glass on carpet both taps dripping in the sink dirty soap left in shower ,shower curtain dirty slip mat full of black mould would not send anyone there glad I decided not to have breakfast couldn't cancel as soon as we arrived the money was taken from my account so couldn't do much about it
Review 122:Nothing really
Review 123:This is my third visit here, I travel to County Hotel on my own to visit an infirm family member, nothing is ever too much trouble. I know which room suits me best due to my disabilities and I have used this room on my last two visits.
Review 124:Coach party entertainment in the bar stopped us from feeling we could go and sit and have a drink. Also pretty loud as could hear it in our room on the 2nd floor. Didn't go on too late tho.
Review 125:Disappointed not to have wifi. Hotel is very tired although clean, has been described as a contractors hotel.
Review 126:The location, we were visiting family and the location was perfect.
Review 127:room was noisy & this hotel needs updating
Review 128:Staff were nice , the lady who checked us in did everthing from check us in , serve at the bar at night & serve breakfast & she was very helpful & Polite.
Review 129:The mattress was quite cheap, my OH did not sleep too well, a decent memory foam topper will sort that.
Review 130:Friendly atmosphere and staff, clean and warm room, good breakfast, not much noise from traffic, the little bits of art and pictures everywhere.
Review 131:In need of some modernisation, all floorboards creaked, anyone anywhere in the hotel moved and you knew about it, comical really. Advertised yoghurt on the breakfast but there was none.
Review 132:Location and price were both excellent, staff were friendly and helpful. Good to have a bath & shower instead of usual just shower.
Review 133:No tiles in shower - plasterboard. Leaking radiator Very tired and dated Ashtray on toilet roll holder! Poor quality breakfast, lukewarm Repairs needed on corridor ceilings Flaking paint on sill above bathroom sink Tree a feature growing from chimney outside! Noisy traffic outside bedroom Christmas present spotted on stair well! No attention to detail
Review 134:Location. Staff trying their best of a bad sitution. They deserve a gold star
