Reviews for Pen-Y-Dyffryn Country Hotel
Review 1:Expected to be in the main hotel, but when we arrived at 5pm on a cold. wet late November evening, we were shown to an annex up some very steep, potential lethal slippery steps up on the hillside. No offer of help with luggage. The room in the annex felt like one in a Travelodge / Premier Inn (paid £140 in hotel for bnb). Small basic bathroom, with very small bath. No 'country house' feel to it whatsoever. Did not make the journey down the steps in the dark and rain to have dinner in the hotel itself. Very disappointed.
Review 2:The best welcome I've ever had on reaching a hotel. Wicked nasty night, wonderful to walk in to comfortable chairs and sofas in front of roaring fires. And such nice warm smiles from welcoming young ladies.
Review 3:It was the most beautiful place with the most sociable and welcoming owners! Their daughter was heading off travelling and we had just come back! Hopefully we gave her some helpful pointers. One of the best places we've stayed in the UK. Highly recommend!
Review 4:The wine and dinner was a little pricey. Carpets in the bathroom.
Review 5:The ambience was very homely with a log fire in the reception area - the hotel was aimed at leisure travellers. Breakfast was very nice and the little valley the hotel was in was very pretty.
Review 6:The decor is somewhat dated but the building is very old and does have character, however, a refurbish would make the place extra special. I searched for 'soundproof' rooms with booking.com however we were placed in the Garden Room which has an interconnecting door to the next room and we could hear next door's tv in the evening and again at 6.30am the next day.
Review 7:Lovely building with character and in a beautiful quiet location overlooking hills. Massive comfortable bed and a nice restaurant. Staff were all incredibly lovely and polite.
Review 8:The coffee! TV's (in coach house rooms) slightly too small to view properly from bed
Review 9:Staff - friendly and professional The food Spa bath Complimentary cream tea on arrival Location General attention to detail
Review 10:Nothing bad at all!
Review 11:Such a friendly hotel. All staff worked as a team, proud of their hotel eg "we do x here". Food was superb. Evening meals were excellent - every single item on the plates was of top quality and taste.
Review 12:The quality of the bathroom was a bit 'faded glories' compared with the rest of the house. Booking.com also need to remove the 'balcony' from the room description as this sadly doesn't exist. Not the hotel's fault and we did really this anomaly to a staff member. Overall the price was a little bit steep as you are clearly paying for the setting.
Review 13:The location is stunning as are the views from the excellent garden. The interior was very comfortable and relaxed. The food was excellent.
Review 14:Discription was misleading believed it to have access from room togarden from room which we liked because we were travelling with our dogunfortunately we were the furtherest room from the entrance
Review 15:It was ok have stopped in better
Review 16:It was unfortunate that the toilet seat needed replacing in the Rose Room. We also felt that the cost of the three course evening meal was a little too expensive. A dessert or first course was definitely not worth the extra £8.
Review 17:The surrounding countryside and the peacefulness of the setting provided a very relaxing stay. We also found that the dining room staff were all very pleasant and helpful. The breakfast was excellent.
Review 18:The food is excellent - as a vegetarian I often feel I am a nuisance to chefs, but not here. Had excellent meals on both nights. Room was comfortable and spacious (had a double room for single use). Staff were friendly, approachable and efficient. Therapist who came in to treat me was also excellent. Peaceful location, easy to find from Oswestry, ample parking.
Review 19:There was nothing we didn't like, even the roses were beautiful, congratulations to the gardener
Review 20:This is a beautiful hotel in an idyllic spot. The food was excellent served in a lovely ambience. Nothing was too much trouble to the staff and service was given with a smile.
Review 21:Location is out of town but is stunning if you're looking for a country retreat.
Review 22:The staff were very friendly and helpful including the young man who had recently started his training. The food was delicious and very well presented.
Review 23:The only fault I could find was the pillows were awful, take your own if your fussy about a decent pillow.
Review 24:The scenic views from our room were wonderful, the piece and quiet was appreciated and overall place made us feel comfortable. The food was also very very good.
Review 25:In some ways the formality seemed to get in the way, but this is only a minor quibble.
Review 26:I liked the ambience, the scenery and the food. I also liked being able to report back to my wife that she missed a treat.
Review 27:Nothing but we were disappointed that we could only stay one night. We plan to return,
Review 28:The warm welcome on arrival and the complementary tea and delicious scones. The room was well appointed and comfortable, the bed in particular. Dinner was lovely - the menus had a good and selection and our choice was delicious and brilliantly presented.
Review 29:The pillows need replacing. I suggest they buy latex.

Review 68:location; ambiance; staff, breakfast & dinner
Review 69:we stayed in outside lodge, tv was basic channels and no wifi unless you went into hotel.
Review 70:views were lovely, own patio was bonus, food was restaurant quality, very peaceful location.
Review 71:The tiny double bed. It isn't really acceptable nowadays to provide a 4' 6" bed. Also the room although well appointed was a bit small.
Review 72:Very friendly staff. Excellent service always with a smile. Relaxed atmosphere. Lovely location. They welcomed our small dog.
Review 73:We particularly enjoyed the food. When we first looked at the dinner menu we thought it was a bit fancy, but everything was beautifully cooked and presented with portions of an appetising size (i.e. not too big). The breakfasts were good too - excellent bacon and sausages.
Review 74:Courtyard room was a little draughty, and bathroom was ready for a refresh.
Review 75:The ambience, food and helpful staff made it a pleasure. Our 2 dogs were made very welcome too!
Review 76:What's not to like. The attention to detail, the relaxed environment, the picturesque setting and the warm enviting staff made this visit special. The food in the restaurant was top rate both at dinner and breakfast. Highly recommend to anyone looking for the special getaway.
Review 77:My chocolate fondant was served over done with no gooey chocolate and burnt edging. I asked for a replacement and was made to feel like I'd committed mortal sin. I was told it wasn't burnt it had been rolled in cocoa powder.. I found the whole thing very embarrassing. It is a small dining room and the waitress although very attentive dealt with the issue very loudly.. A little bit of discretion would have been much appreciated. The replacement was perfect and we were able to giggle about it afterwards.
Review 78:Very peaceful, comfy bed. Nice food served at restaurant and lovely breakfast. Dog friendly. Beautiful location. Attentive Staff.
Review 79:This hotel is a delight. Many guests return again and again and I can see why. Beautiful location, warm welcome, nothing is too much effort for the wonderful staff, gorgeous food and a relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A gem.
Review 80:As elderly pensioners, dependent on access to a walk-in shower, a spabath gleamed back at us unused. On a previous visit we were allocatedthe only ground floor room which had this facility. But for one night wewere happy to improvise.
Review 81:Relaxed warm helpful atmosphere and a genuine desire to make youfeel welcome and at home. We made a big detour to spend a night atthis hotel.Ready assistance with luggage partly compensated for the lack of a lift to the upper rooms. With a disabled wife, we appreciated being able to park close to the hotel entrance. Excellent well-presented food was an added enticement to return to Pen-Y-Dyffryn. We have recommended it to several friends and family members.
Review 82:Distances to travel to attractions along with absence of road signs.
Review 83:Friendly, relaxed, comfortable stay with plenty of luxury elements. Stunning location and surroundings. Great food and welcoming staff.
