Reviews for Thainstone House
Review 1:Everything about the hotel was first class. Added bonus was being able to take our elderly dog with us. Will definitely be back for more of the same high standard.
Review 2:Not a complaint ...... Just an observation .The weather had taken a turn for the worst although the bedrooms were lovely and toasty the public areas and dining room could have been slightly warmer
Review 3:Staff were fab nothing was to much trouble even when we arrived earlier than expected ,
Review 4:The staff were all very kind and helpful, and the decor was lovely. We slept well, and felt we had had a treat. Loved the smell of the real Christmas tree. The spa was great considering the abysmal dank weather outside.
Review 5:The room we were given was tiny, definitely not representative of a £80 room. The window had been left open in the bathroom so the room was really cold when we arrived. On the main wall beside the tv there were big patches of different colours of paint. I am unsure if there had been some decorating taking place. Also the corners of the shower were very mouldy and not very clean.
Review 6:The main part of the hotel was very grand and nicely decorated. There was a massive Christmas tree in the stairwell up to the bedrooms which was lovely.
Review 7:The changing room for the leisure facilities was a total mess, towels and dressing gowns all over the floor, floor dirty with hair. Thought it was a bit cheeky to charge for using a credit card!
Review 8:Comfy room, really lovely dinner, very attentive staff.
Review 9:room was at corridor door and noisy. Avoid room 107! All bills written out on paper and prices of drinks weren't displayed clearly.
Review 10:Food was excellent.
Review 11:Lots of pot holes on driveway Stockman's restaurant on the hotel website states food is served from 5.00pm to 11.30pm and when I checked into room at 9.15pm the room details advised meals were served until 9.00pm.
Review 12:Beautiful setting. Very friendly and professional staff. Furnished to a high standard. Very comfortable. Would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. Breakfast was first class - excellent selection to choose from and served in lovely room with wonderful views. You get what you pay for.
Review 13:The car auctioneer over the road could be heard even from inside the hotel, so if you want a lovely, peaceful break you'll get it if you avoid car auction day at the Thainstone Auction Mart - check it out on Google before booking.
Review 14:Welcome and helpfulness of staff, including the fitness suite manager. Very reasonable prices in the bar and for refreshments in the lounges. Lovely log fires and sofas, Stunning grounds for an autumn walk among the trees.
Review 15:Hotel decor is a bit tired looking especially the carpets in places. Stock mans bar wasn't particularly clean with crumbs over the seats etc. and service was poor although not particularly busy. It wasn't just our service that was poor. Staff in stockmans not very hospitable.
Review 16:Swimming pool etc very good. Welcome at reception and breakfast good. Food in the stockman bar good.
Review 17:Poor service at breakfast on first morning of stay, lack of natural yogurts although on menu, no fresh fruit. Driveway very rough, needs resurfacing.
Review 18:Nice location away from the maddening crowd
Review 19:Shower could be better/breakfast not up to the same standard as a hotel in Inverness that we use which is cheaper than Thainstone!
Review 20:Bed was very comfie! Staff very helpful. Hot tub amazing!
Review 21:We were given a room to change into our wedding outfits well ahead of check in time. Much appreciated after a very early departure from home and a 5 hour journey!
Review 22:We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and surroundings. Being able to use the gym, pool and other leisure facilities was great and the massage and pampering even better! The stay was especially pleasant thanks to the helpful and friendly staff.
Review 23:Room a bit on the small side but comfortable except for being kept awake by the constant drone of a generator/ fan, of some kind.! So had a very restless night!
Review 24:Lovely hotel with great traditional features, good food, friendly staff & spa was very good.
Review 25:Not easy when you have luggage that the first thing you have to tackle, when you enter the hotel, is a flight of stairs especially for my Mother who is 86. Very slow service in the restaurant waiting for food. Reception staff were very inexperienced. I did ask if I could use a pair of scissors but no effort to look for any or find me a knife even though someone from the office behind shouted out that there might be a knife in the kitchen.
Review 26:Hotel and Room - clean, comfortable and well equiped.
Review 27:Good friendly staff. Good service. Problems for disabled overcome by usund delivery door. One comment - was not keen on ladies coming into dining Room in dressing gowns. Spa dress should be kept separate. Overall very good.
Review 28:Took 50 minutes for a plate of sausage and mash at dinner in the bar..When I complained about my wait I got a cock and bull answer, that they had to cook the sausage from "fresh" as they had not pre-cooked left....
Review 29:The room was excellent and clean
Review 30:There for a family wedding and unfortunately my brother took unwell. The staff could not have been more helpful and really helped us to cope. A1++++++++++
Review 31:The room was exceedingly tiny. Just enough room to slide into a full bed. No room to open suitcase except on the floor. You have to carry your own luggage through many doors and onto elevator all which was made more difficult since I was disabled.
Review 32:The Steak night on Thursday was excellent and extremely well priced! I would strongly suggest it. The hotel has an old world ambiance. The staff is pleasant.
Review 33:The comfort and grandeur combined with friendliness made it very easy to settle in and mingle with other guests. ..and there are other hotels in this chain which I should love to try.
Review 34:The potholes on the driveway!
Review 35:We stayed overnight after our Silver Wedding Lunch. We were delighted with how smoothly the event went. It was well planned, with no problems. Service was speedy and friendly. The meal was excellent and all our guests were enthusiastic.
Review 36:The extremely irritating laminated notice on reception desk and bar counter advising of a £2 charge per transaction for debit and credit cards. Akin to charging for using the lift instead of the stairs! Build it in to overheads. The potholes in the long drive are dreadful and a danger to any car, especially at night. The fishcakes were 95% potato.
Review 37:Pleasant efficient staff, particularly in the bar. Comfortable traditional lounges and bar.
Review 38:Toilet took a long tie to refill, was noisy for about 15 minutes! A minor thing really!
Review 39:Very relaxing stay, brilliant food, helpful staff. Good leisure facilities.
Review 40:we stayed on the dinner, bed and breakfast deal which only allows 2 options per course for dinner (main course had no veggie options).
Review 41:the house and grounds were beautiful and the staff were very friendly.
Review 42:Service a bit disorganised on first morning of breakfast, had to ask for a lot of things missing from the table. Chilli didn't seem to have any chilli in it!
Review 43:bed, staff, cheeseburger, breakfast. View from room with deer!
Review 44:Room was very small, overlooking staff rooms and a mental noise vent. So window closed meant no air window open noise all night, from TVs and vent. Hotel pool was no good for lengths but ok for kids family etc. no walk around grounds available? very over priced for size of room. The literature in the room stars check out was noon. I received a knock at the door 11:30 am asking me to settle my bill at reception. Which really made me feel uncomfortable and spoiled everything good about the place. Wish I had stayed at the Ardoe house as it was cheaper and fabulous as we had 1 night there afterthought 2 nights at Thainstone House
Review 45:The stockman bar was very good and breakfast was super. Room decor was lovely
Review 46:Room although well equipped was a little on the small side for a double despite me being on my own.
Review 47:Dinner bed and breakfast package was at a competitive rate. Hotel has been well renovated since my last visit.
Review 48:Room size overpriced...lack variety for breakfast mixed fruit was melon melon melon no bananas berries sometimes no yogurt,,having to queue for breakfast
Review 49:Fitness suite...location.....
Review 50:At check-in I can only describe the welcome as unprofessional...three staff chatting, barely lifted their heads, no welcome or directions to room, no advice on breakfast, no offer of information on hotel facilities. The executive room was well equipped but tired.
Review 51:This beautiful period property is set in extensive private grounds yet just minutes from the centre of Inverurie.
Review 52:While they were friendly, the staff were slightly disorganised. Breakfast service was also rather slow.
Review 53:Great location, beautiful building, good facilities. Friendly staff.
Review 54:I could not understand he foreign bar man who did not understand me when I was lost looking for reception - it needs better signage. I had to ring the hotel number to ask where it was. I rang to get my room tray collected and got him again, it wasn't collected. Breakfast - no small spoons for yoghurt, and tea delivered to table with no cup laid, had to ask for one. Seemed a bit poor for the quality of service otherwise. Wouldn't put me off staying again, but others might not.
Review 55:Linda on reception was very attentive, really impressed. Helped me with luggage and wanted to make sure I was happy with everything. Lady who delivered my room service was very professional and cared that I had what I needed. Lovely, I thourougly enjoyed it.
Review 56:Lovely location, quiet, excellent staff. We did not use the spa nor have an evening meal - but we were really impressed & we got an excellent rate through Booking.com
Review 57:Not really any bad points - had difficulty in getting bar service later in the evening - got a sense that staff were busy with a wedding
Review 58:Historical elegance. Staff very positive and friendly
Review 59:Smell of cigarette smoke at entrance Rubbish phone signal.... Had to call using hotel phone
Review 60:Location great for our attendance at a wedding nearby Lovely scenery Great obliging staff Good food
Review 61:Bedside lamps not powerful enough to see properly with and one was not working( bare wires exposed at plug). Pillows were extremely uncomfortable. Room adequate size but a bit cramped. Hair dryer could not be plugged in near enough to the mirror. Informed desk at check out about lamp which was not met with any apology, nor were we asked if we had enjoyed our stay!
Review 62:The Hotel building and living areas were lovely. Sadly we did not have an opertunity to experience the facilities. The fact I could open the bedroom windows was a big plus for me. The hotel and room were very clean.
Review 63:There were two weddings during our 3 night stay,so our use of the hotel facilities became limited because of all the wedding arrangements. There was not enough care taken to ensure the comfort of non-wedding residents.
Review 64:Good facilities, spa, lounge bars and gardens.
Review 65:Their first bill was at a higher price than confirmed through booking.com Breakfast was rather small unless specifying exactly the quantities required
Review 66:Comfortable with helpful staff
Review 67:Not a bad experience, but an observation. I think that the driveway would benefit from being tarmacked. Our car (and every other car in the car park) was covered in an inch of dust when we left to travel to our wedding in the morning!
Review 68:The ambience; the surroundings; the friendly staff; the traditional Scottish breakfast; the dining room with the morning sun streaming in to the room; just a lovely old fashioned comfortable hotel.
Review 69:Only lukewarm water from shower in room Breakfast service a bot on the slow side and some of the food slightly over cooked Additional charge for any card payments - not highlighted in Booking.com information
Review 70:Pool area lovely
Review 71:Loved the building and the gardens and surroundings. I stayed there with my partner as we were attending a wedding nearby. The hotel staff were extremely helpful as we needed to change but our room wasn't ready - they allowed use of another room and ensured all our things were in actual our room when we came back. The room was beautiful, clean and very comfortable. Will definitely try to visit this hotel again.
Review 72:No designated disabled parking. Large entrance stairway and no lift. elevator to bedrooms very temperamental. Bedroom accessories in short supply. No tissues, face cloth, shower cap, toilet brush or grab handle for going into bath. Coombed ceiling in bedroom at head knocking height. Soggy toast and overcooked black pudding. Extra cost for Sat. night because wedding on! Too far out of Inverurie. Cold in stockman's bar. Not able to have bedroom door unlocked.
Review 73:Interesting old building with amazing amount of pictures hung around the walls. Elegant dining room. Helpful friendly staff (in short supply at times). Beautiful ballroom. Good breakfast menu. Help with luggage.
Review 74:The service of staff was very poor. We had ages to wait to to order a drink and ages to wait for a meal. Definitely not enough staff to attend the guests, dread to think what would happen if the place had been busy.
Review 75:Location was great.
Review 76:long dodgy driveway needs resurfacing as it detracts from the luxury feel otherwise given and delivered by the hotel.
Review 77:Lovely Hotel with good facilities, and excellent staff, Liked it, so we stayed an extra night. Late for breakfast, no problem they made it any way, Ace.
Review 78:stayed in Nanny Room found the lighting in the room to be a little on the dark side just table lamps with small bulbs . nothing in the rooms telling you about when dinner time or breakfast, no menu's for room service
Review 79:friendly helpful staff ,the look and the feel of the hotel were superb. food was good and sizes of portions was about right .the grounds of the hotel were nice and tidy. enjoy all aspects of stay
Review 80:Room door had a faulty lock so unable to secure the room. Service for dinner and in bar very slow. Décor tired looking - paint flaking/ peeling off in places.
Review 81:Comfortable public lounge seating areas. Lovely food. Beautiful views and scenery.
Review 82:The facilities and staff were excellent. It was ideal for us as we were visiting family in Inverurie and it was great being able to get a drink at the bar when we returned to the hotel at night.
Review 83:I have nothing really to complain about. Maybe the waitresses were sometimes lost and didn't know which table ordered what. But they were nice.
Review 84:Cleanliness into the detail. Carpets, walls, bedroom, shower, everything was in an extremely good condition. Even the stairways which often are in bad condition were as if they had just been repainted. Very friendly staff. Breakfast was good but nothing really special.
Review 85:staff was excellent spa was great, steam room was exceptionally hot as it should be. the indoor Christmas tree and décor was stunning The numerous wood and peat fires made it so warm and welcoming on a cold night
Review 86:I booked the hotel via yourselves on the 27th January. Last Wednesday evening I had a phone call to say that they could only give me accommodation for one night. They then booked me into Pittrodrie House for the two nights but as my family were all at Thainstone it was not the weekend that was planned. Very disappointing indeed.
Review 87:No television anywhere other than in the room. I was unable to see Lewis Hamilton win the F1 world championship as my room wasnt ready. Dis-appointed!! I'm being picky though!!
Review 88:Food was of a very high quality. The service was great. The room was really nice. I had a great stay at a great hotel.
Review 89:A little over priced ... My husband unfortunately felt someone had something against him - sausage missing from breakfast on the first morning and bacon absent on the second morning. (Though the staff sorted it quickly once he asked)
Review 90:Full sized snooker table, space invaders table and free play juke box ... great idea and good fun. Varied menu and fish and chips were so good had them 2 nights in a row
Review 91:Carrying cases up the stairs to Reception. Dragging my cases myself across thick carpet to my room. Tiny little room.
Review 92:The food was good and it was also good value. The gym facilities are quite good for a hotel.
Review 93:Breakfast was a bit poor not enough staff on, minimuium interaction felt let down from previous night experience, where staff helpful and enquiring about you enjoyment of meal. Staff rushing around small portions fine for myself but partner left looking for more
Review 94:Comfortable bed and high standard of furnishing
Review 95:Full dinner menu has too few choices for "picky" eaters.
Review 96:Chef is trying to give a full dinner with canapes, etc. between main courses. Plenty of lounge and bar space but always cosy. Snooker and games room good for all ages.i
Review 97:We were in room 218 and on the first night we were woken by someone above walking about. The floor creaked loudly and you could here everything
Review 98:Very comfortable
Review 99:-a waste container standing in front of our window, the room was dark -food choice is terrible, there where on sausages available at the bar menu -quite some noise in the night from upper floor -jacuzzi could fit two persons -pool very small
Review 100:nice park around the hotel
Review 101:more detail to cleaning rooms stairs banisters window ledges decor was quite dark
Review 102:Food choice excellent location Gym and pool spa facilities friendly staff
Review 103:On arrival there had been a large wedding the rooms were not ready The sauna was out of order several menus dishes were not available and also some drinks were out as well we were offered complementary drinks but the overall experience was poor HOWEVER day two was good but we never got into the sauna
Review 104:The room 110 was nice and comfortable, the staff were well trained helpful and courteous, and the feel of the place was peaceful So on the whole it was a nice weekend look forward to the next one
Review 105:Nothing to dislike.
Review 106:Staff very cheerful & helpful, any request was dealt with very quickly. Dinner in the bar was excellent as was the breakfast in the Green Room - lots to choose from. Our room & en-suite were clean with various complimentary teas & coffees + delicious shortbread biscuits. Nice toiletries in bathroom too. The bed was extremely comfortable. Wish we could have stayed longer as we had a very relaxing stay.
Review 107:The driveway could do with a repair taking out the potholes.
Review 108:Location is grand. This is my fourth visit. I like the hotels policy of being able to occasionally take my dog
Review 109:Nothing
Review 110:Wonderful staff, setting, decor, food, service, wifi and location. Close to the airport and Aberdeen city centre but far enough away to enjoy the peace and quiet.
Review 111:Food service was lacking. The "spa" facilities were horrible. Changing rooms and showers were dirty, pool needed a good scrub, steam room had clumps (several) of hair on the floor and sauna was broken though there was no sign saying so and staff weren't helpful when I inquired. Nail station was a table and chair at the spa/gym reception area. Several machines in the gym were broken, but again no sign on them. There was one small sign stating that they would be renovating at the end of August (no mention on website), but still no excuse for lack of cleanliness. If all of this is updated and improved, I would recommend it to a friend, but in the state it was in for our visit, it doesn't justify the cost.
Review 112:Food was A+. Rooms were nicely decorated and clean. Lovely en suite facilities. Grounds were beautiful and Inverurie is very close and a cute little town.
Review 113:Bed and towels old thin and needed replacing. Toiletries excellent but missing initially. Mix-up on initial booking. Extra charge for credit card use.
Review 114:Food dinner exceeded expectation and breakfast excellent. The staff: very friendly and professional. The ambience great.
Review 115:The lack of attention to detail (bedroom refurbished, bathroom not) bath chipped, driveway only half tarmaced etc etc I could go on but you get the idea.
Review 116:My bedroom (306), the grounds of the hotel and the food
Review 117:Very friendly and helpful staff. The tasting menu as well as the a la carte was excellent - a lot of effort went into preparation of various dishes and was reflected in the quality and taste of the food.
Review 118:Would have liked a bottle of water in the bedroom.
Review 119:Beautiful hotel in a wonderful setting. Unfortunately I was not there long enough to use the facilities, but the smoked salmon at breakfast was very tasty.
Review 120:We were made to feel welcome, our dietary requirements were met without fuss and we had a very comfortable stay.
Review 121:The road up to the hotel and parking were so bad I would not repeat my visit.
Review 122:The staff were very friendly and helpful
Review 123:Lounge bar man was very slow
Review 124:Restraunt food was superb and service excellent
Review 125:The spa
Review 126:Excellent food and staff, a very well thought out hotel
Review 127:Delicious dinner in restaurant. Menu choice is excellent.
Review 128:Very steep stairs - but there is a lift - rather slow.
Review 129:The staff were friendly and very helpful especially to one with limited mobility.
Review 130:Standard double a bit cramped.
Review 131:Lovely old reception rooms.
The Fine Print
