Reviews for The Hotel Broughty Ferry
Review 1:The staff very helpful. I had problems with ferries so did not get to hotel for the 1st night that was booked. Cancelled 1st night. Turned up for 2nd night. They were so chilled about it and we didn't have to pay for 1st night. Room was lovely and cracking breakfast.
Review 2:Staff all very helpful especially the house maid / chamber maid onour departure, as we had left an item in the room. Food cooked toperfection, staff listen about your needs and standards, not ping pingmicro food you no what I mean. Going back soon.
Review 3:The room and bathroom was a little small .the meals in the restaurant were good but we thought a tad expensive.
Review 4:All meals we had were very good, enjoyed the sauna and swimming pool.all the staff were very pleasant nothing was too much trouble.
Review 5:Breakfast was disappointing. Not a lot to choose from the cold buffet. The omelette was very overcooked, tasteless and dry. And with the Scottish breakfast, the bacon was overcooked
Review 6:Location was ideal. The hotel was spotless clean and the bedrooms were lovely and very cosy. The food choices in the restaurant in the evening are superb with a mixture of traditional Scottish food and Indian
Review 7:We had arranged to meet a disabled friend who we had not seen for 36 years,a table had been booked in his name but the waitress had given the table to another person with the same name. He could not walk up stairs as was suggested, may I suggest that when taking a booking a telephone number is taken which would prevent the same happening.,
Review 8:Spacious room
Review 9:Not exactly a bad experience, but 2 things to highlight. Staff member pointed us in the direction of swimming pool. I was with my elderly mother. We were celebrating her birthday. Got down to the pool, and coudn't find lights for the changing room. Had to leave her, and go and ask for help. This was done willingly. It would be better if staff could show customer facilities, and highlight how to operate sauna. Only other negative was at check out, I asked if our luggage could be stored in luggage room. Was told to leave cases at the foot of the stairs to the dining area, and it would be put in luggage room. We left to have a walk to Broughty Ferrry. We were away for a couple of hours. On return, our cases had not been put in the luggage room, and were still virtually where we left them. Thankfully not been touched!! Did mention it to member of staff, who apologised. Not the staff member who said she would ensure cases would be attended to.
Review 10:Lovely clean room. Very comfortable. Excellent dinner and breakfast. Enjoyed swimming in pool. Staff very good. Mum and I had a very enjoyable stay. Thank you.
Review 11:I thoroughly enjoyed my stay it was a small hotel, nice clean room, easy to park my car and the cooked breakfast and coffee was excellent. I would stay at this hotel if I am in the area again. I felt it was good value for the price I paid.
Review 12:Bedroom 8 was beautiful and really spacious, food was good, staff couldn't be friendlier. Pool was ideal for a morning swim, would thoroughly recommmend
Review 13:We eat a lot of indian food across the UK and were tempted to try the a la carte menu. This was OK but pretty average flavours and we felt it was very overpriced. There was only a few tables to serve yet the 2 young waitresses were not attentive which was a shame. The skip in the compact car park was a shame and a tarpaulin would have helped hide it.
Review 14:The room we had was lovely and a sofa plus dressing gowns is a lovely addition. The pool was good, especially as no one else was using it!
Review 15:Felt that decor was slightly dated but the colour co-ordination worked well. Reception area needs to be more welcoming and not befitting a 4 star hotel.
Review 16:Location was ideal. Easy access to the centre of Broughty Ferry. Food was very good.
Review 17:Bedroom was above the kitchen and uncomfortably hot. The shower didn't work in the bathroom but we were able to use the room next door. Floorboards were very noisy.
Review 18:Staff were very helpful. The breakfast was excellent and hot.
Review 19:Early check out 11am. Would have been nice to have time for a walk after breakfast and still have time to go back to hotel to freshen up before driving home. A 12 o'clock check out then would have been great.
Review 20:Cleanliness of room, biscuits with tea making facilities. Easy check in/out.
Review 21:Rubbish barman didn't process our order for food in evening. Afterwaiting 45 mins complained and went elsewhere. Bed extremely firm
Review 22:Cleanliness superb breakfast was great majority of staff welcomingand effecient
Review 23:Only thing that wasn't good was DVD player that didn't work
Review 24:Lovely hotel - very friendly staff, excellent breakfast and high tea and got late check out at 12pm upon asking. Bed very comfy too! Will be back! :)
Review 25:Nothing
Review 26:Well run hotel, with off street parking close to the centre of town. Excellent breakfast cooked to order - no cool buffets. Clean spacious room with nice towels.
Review 27:Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast, superb Indian food in the evening. Quiet swimming pool - felt like a private pool! Good public transport into Dundee. Broughty Ferry a nice wee town.
Review 28:Couldn't get freebies in room to work, neither could staff. Wasn't too bothered as was out mostly. Managed to get morning tv using ipad instead.
Review 29:Friendly staff, nice room.
Review 30:Room 1 is right next to busy junction and glass recycling bin outside the window. Could feel springs of the mattress even with duvet on top. We were supposed to stay for 3, we checked out after 1 - 1 was enough.
Review 31:The owners said they'd replace the mattress for future guests of Room 1.
Review 32:parking a bit limited, due to location of hotel on corner of busy road, with limited on street parking nearby
Review 33:small, friendly staff, interesting layout
Review 34:No bad experiences
Review 35:Nothing was too much bother. All the meals were well presented and very good. the position of the hotel was ideal for the shops and transport . I could see the hotel was popular with local residents --always a good sign.
Review 36:Being a southern person, I really need a dark room for a good sleep. This time of the year in Scotland with the wonderful weather I enjoyed, too much light was entering through my room window extremely early in the morning. This is not really complaint, just a suggestion for improvement.
Review 37:My room looked much like a "home bedroom". Part of the breakfast (cereals and fruits excluded) is promptly cooked to your taste while you wait. Could not try the restaurant but the scents coming out of it when I arrived were really enticing.
Review 38:We asked for a quit room we had a railway line at one window and a side road to other so was a bit noisy allso room 17 floorboards creaked did report this on departure
Review 39:Pool and breakfast
Review 40:We were in the area for a wedding and the hotel was ideally located, it was very clean and the slippers and dressing gowns were a lovely surprise! The staff were very friendly and overall we would recommend it highly.
Review 41:Poached eggs need working on.
Review 42:Friendly helpful staff in a homely hotel. Would have liked to stay longer to explore more in the area. As Arnie said "I'll be back"
Review 43:Parking was limited, difficult. Again the manager kyle was of greatassistance
Review 44:Service was fabulous; the manager went out of his way to assist 3 olderroad weary ladies with baggage, beautiful ground floor rooms (no lift),shopping directions, etc. The décor was just lovely, all the detailswere taken into consideration. Our favorite hotel during the 10 day tripin Scotland...
Review 45:The only downside was that dinner finished a little early, due to work I came back to late and had to go into town for food.
Review 46:Location was fantastic for what I needed. Staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were comfortable and spacious
Review 47:The staff were all very nice and welcoming, felt as though they couldn't do enough for us, from the welcome through to breakfast. The rooms were all different, not your standard square box room like so many other hotels. breakfast itself was excellent.
Review 48:Dinner - the venison was very stringy, the strawberry dessert tasteless. Room 1 had traffic lights and crossing outside so windows had to remain closed. One bed had very "crunchy" springs.
Review 49:The staff were very friendly. The room was very clean with a bath and shower with slippers and bathrobes supplied. Breakfast excellent.
Review 50:Our room was right on the corner with the traffic lights. Noisy during the night, especially on the Saturday.
Review 51:The choice of Indian or European cuisine meant something for everyone
Review 52:Squeaky door and small tv with a small car park which left me a bit apprehensive
Review 53:Comfortable room and bed with attentive and friendly staff and enjoyable breakfast
Review 54:The bed was not at all comfortable, mattress seen better days - very hard! We had our evening meal in the restaurant, food was very good, service very much lacking! Never have been offered the dessert menu while main dishes were still in place! Gaining the attention of staff proved difficult throughout, even though only two other tables were occupied! Breakfast was not impressive - tinned fruit, flavoured yoghurt! Our overall impression - ok but sadly we will not be returning.
Review 55:Location suited us as we were meeting family who live nearby. Initial impression was good, a very nice welcome by reception staff. Broughty Ferry is a lovely place to visit, lots of lovely coffee shops & surprisingly a few very nice restaurants, disappointed we chose to eat in the hotel!
Review 56:We were staying in room 11, and the noise from the traffic was very bad, as the hotel is located right on a busy junction. We had to get earplugs from the reception as we could not get slept at night, as the road was busy all the time. The couple we were staying with were in room 17 and were located right above the railway line. It should be noted in your booking page about these things.
Review 57:The staff were very friendly, breakfast was good and the hotel was kept clean.
Review 58:Nothing.
Review 59:We got a really friendly welcome on checking in, made to feel like one of the family. Lovely staff. Leisure facilities good. Bedrooms comfortable and spotlessly clean. Food was superb.
Review 60:Nothing really.
Review 61:Decor was first rate - carpets were clean, no scuff marks on the walls and painted surfaces such as doors were generally free of chips and scratches. Small / medium size hotel but with excellent facilities. Intimate atmosphere Good choice of eating facilities and menus - bar meals for a quick bite before going out for the evening and more formal restaurant for dinner. more formal
Review 62:Happy to get free wifi but real problems in getting connection - which was very limited and unfortunately kept cutting off and required reconnecting . Staff unable to resolve the problem .
Review 63:Nice lounge area and well maintained overall . High standard of cleanliness . Good overall ambience .
Review 64:- our room was looking on the street and you might hear loud cars during the night
Review 65:+ room was spacious + very clean and very nice interior.. Especially the bathroom was classic nice + delicious Scottish breakfast
Review 66:Breakfast was good but it would have been nice to have had fish eg kippers, smoked haddock etc as an option.
Review 67:Friendly staff, clean well equipped rooms.
Review 68:Diabolical Internet connection. Useless for working during business tripVery small room for price rather musty and wallpaper peeling off wallSeems to be trying to be something it's not. No parking space fordisabled driver. Three hotl vehicles and a skip currently taking up halfof the parking spaces.
Review 69:Good food
Review 70:Only that it is quite difficult to exit the hotel of turning right
Review 71:We only booked for bed and breakfast so can only comment on that and both we're excellent. We will certainly stay there again.o
Review 72:The fact the wifi was outsourced and staff could not help with any problems trying to log in to wifi. Noticed other persons also having the same problem.
Review 73:The parking space could sometimes be filled up and it can be a bit difficult to get your car out of there, although you can park in the street not far from the hotel. The WiFi reception was not very good in some parts of our room, but fortunately it was good enough on the bed.
Review 74:We stayed at The Hotel Broughty Ferry for a week and didn't have any issue at all. The staff, the cleanliness and everything was up to our standard. Facilities were very good with an indoor swimming pool and sauna that are there for residents to use. Parking space available.
Review 75:Other people's dodgy parking! But that's no fault of the hotel
Review 76:The staff were brilliant, the menu portion size in the bar was huge, the pool was quiet and the room was lovely :) had an excellent stay and would return.
Review 77:I didn't go too much on the decor. It seemed a bit tired and dated for my liking...but why quibble - it didn't spoil my stay
Review 78:I liked the staff. They were really attentive and thoughtful. Everything was well considered and made for a homely stay. The breakfast was enormous... I did feel guilty as we had to leave the toast!! The wee extras in the room was great!
Review 79:Nothing to complain about
Review 80:Nice room liked chairs as some hotels only have one chair (backless ) bed comfortable good coffee& Biscuits supply Prefer upstairs room as opposed to ground ones
Review 81:Not many parking places. Didn't need any myself, but there is no lift.
Review 82:Very helpful and friendly staff. Good location. Food in the restaurant and bar was great. Quiet clean rooms. Sauna und pool were very enjoyable.
Review 83:Furnishings a bit old fashioned but did not look out of place and did not have any effect on our stay.
Review 84:For price the hotel was very good, staff were helpful and very attentive. Good breakfast choice and well presented.
Review 85:The car park is a bit small for people taking a car.
Review 86:I liked the central location.I did not have a car and I only stayed for one night but anyone who stays longer there is a good local bus service which takes you to many places in the area. There is also a railway station not far from the hotel
Review 87:Reception is on the first floor which meant carrying luggage up a flight of stairs to check in. The restaurant is beside the reception on the 1st floor. Our room was also up a flight of stairs but on the other side of the building which meant a lot of up and down stairs and as we are in our late 70's we did not enjoy that aspect.
Review 88:We liked the cleanliness and helpful staff. It was nice to have a tablecloth on the table for breakfast. The pool looked inviting and the gym was well equipped but was down in the basement which felt a bit claustrophobic.
Review 89:The two rooms that I stayed in were a little noisy. One room was affected by the train line & the other by the road.
Review 90:Staff very pleasant & helpful Food very good Good Location with regards to the area that the hotel is in. Facilities very good
Review 91:Traffic noise whole hotel very warm and couldn't open window for noise - told by staff it was due to the Spa in the bottom floor. Lack of parking and access to what parking there was
Review 92:Staff and restaurant
Review 93:Car park is very small. Having said that we managed to get a space whenever we returned to the hotel.
Review 94:Friendly helpful staff. Nice decor etc. Food very good. Gym and pool available although wee ran out of time so couldnt make use of it.
Review 95:It is always so popular, we can't always get a room when we need one.
Review 96:We have stayed at the Broughty Ferry a few times visiting family and have had various functions there, including my mother's 90th birthday. When my brother was rushed to hospital just as we were leaving in July, the man on reception could not have been more helpful. They were kind on our next visit too when my brother died.
Review 97:We can't fault this beautiful hotel. Staff are friendly and helpful breakfasts delicious and high teas fantastic. Enjoyed the swim every morning and the room was spotless and very comfortable.
Review 98:The car park was very small and it was difficult to get a space. It would be better if it was for residents of the hotel only. There was a large party if people attending a wake when we arrived and the car park was full. After driving for 10 hours we didn't want to have to hunt for a parking space in the locality and then hump our luggage back to the hotel.
Review 99:The staff couldn't do enough to help, they were very friendly and polite .
Review 100:My only criticism of The Hotel, was the location of our room (4) We asked to move , but unfortunately they were fully booked. The room window faced on to the car park where there was seating areas. Other guests chose to move these seats to under our window in the evening ( 11pm) & have loud conversations. We called reception & they did ask these guests to move. Smokers tended to stand outside the window also & due to the heat while we were there , had to leave our windows open . One lady in particular liked to fiddle with the flowers in the pots under the window while smoking & the smoke from her cigarette came into our room. As non smokers, & my daughter aged 12, this was awful. We did speak to reception & they apologised for this.
Review 101:Broughty Ferry is beautiful. The people are friendly. The streets are clean & peaceful at night. Loved the hotel , except , (see below )
