Reviews for Best Western Falstaff Hotel
Review 1:Room wasn't ready - had to wait in reception for nearly an hour. Room had a generator below (rm 53) and was really noisy and made me feel nautious with the vibrating floor / bed. Moved to a twin room at 2am and the window couldn't be shut (rm26) so was freezing cold. Hotel is old and squeaky.
Review 2:The poor staff were trying their hardest to solve things but clearly with limited resources. The decor was nice in the first room.
Review 3:Cold, very cold, no heating in room, radiators broke, food awful, not fit for human consumption, the service is very poor you wait over a hour for meal, the car park is a joke if you value your car. Not worth 85 pounds a night - no way it's day light robbery for a dump of a hotel God knows what these other visitors have been on when they write reviews, they must have low expectations, you must be mad to stay here - trust me
Review 4:Large room
Review 5:Asked for a quiet room but given one at front on main road and slept poorly. Booked double room but it was tiny and staff said it was to become a single.
Review 6:This is the only hotel I have ever stayed at (and I have stayed at over 100 hotels) in which the room did not have a proper shower. I do not classify a bath with a hand help hose connected to the taps as a shower particularly if I have to sit down to wash. If this had been advertised which I strongly believe it should have been I would definitely not have stayed at the hotel. Furthermore, I found the staff not particularly helpful and incredibly slow at responding with the reception left unattended.
Review 7:Very little
Review 8:Radiator was broken (actually not even connected) so room was cold. I ordered a sandwich for room service and first they said they weren't sure if they could make this as there was a Christmas party booking on. Then they did deliver the sandwich and as the radiator wasn't working, the sandwich was free.
Review 9:Can-do staff
Review 10:The floor creaked and could be heard in the room. The place was being refurbished at the time so it was a little difficult to find a place to sit. Not a good start.
Review 11:The location is fantastic, close to the city. Barman was friendly.
Review 12:Room too small for the price you pay. Noisy in the night. I woke up in the middle of the night due to fire alarm. Reason was somebody was boiling water for tee. rooms and corridors smelly.
Review 13:Location
Review 14:Hotel was in a relatively poor state of repair, room was shabby. Furniture was old, mismatched and in poor condition (door/drawer handles missing), bed was quite rickety/unstable. It at least felt clean although the cleaners were lazy (leaving used glasses out rather than cleaning them and returning them to the bathroom, or replacing them) leaving you with an uncertain sense over how clean it really was.Room was little more than a shoebox, not even space to put down & open a suitcase (had to put it on the bedside table). The shower was less effective than being spat on by a dehydrated cat and max shower head height was well under 6 foot, too low for someone of average height to have the water coming down from above.Advertised facilities are frequently unavailable without prior warning. Of 4 nights, 1 night upon returning after work I was told the restaurant had shut early (due to lack of custom) so no hot food was available and I had to go elsewhere. The next night they had rented out the entire bar and restaurant to an outside party (black tie, so not suitable for me to gatecrash in t-shirt and jeans) and that I would have to go elsewhere for food (they did offer to send cold bar snacks - crisps & peanuts - to my shabby room for dinner). If facilities aren't going to be available then they shouldn't be advertised - hotel was falsely advertised (fraud!).Staff are incompetent. I made it clear I would not pay for that night when the bar & restaurant were closed to guests, and expect it deducted from my bill when I go to checkout next morning. The receptionist said he needed to check with his manager and brought someone else out who then, after I explained the situation again, told me he needed to check with his manager.
Review 15:Location is good.
Review 16:Extensive building work being completed during stay. Room had no curtains due to windows being painted. Paintwork was still wet and room smelt of paint. Went to use iron in room and wires were bare and unsafe. Staff moving furniture around the hotel was off putting. Stacks of old tables and chairs behind many closed doors. Returned to hotel late at night and rear doors were locked. Over all the worst hotel I have stayed in ever and I stay in hotels at least once a week and have do so for years.
Review 17:Toilet did not flush, cold tap did not produce cold water, shower never really got hot, room was really grotty, dents in the wall, no view from the room, rock hard pillows and small bed that meant I got no sleep during my one night stay here, creeky floors and non-existent sound proofing. Staff did not appear interested when serving me. Parking area was small and tight and apparently it was okay to park across two spaces. Paid £77.50 for my room and to be honest, that was £77.50 too much. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. Even the travelodge down the road is far superior to this place.
Review 18:The hotel is in a good location, near to city centre amenities.
Review 19:When we arrived they didn't have our reservation so they put us in a single room as we had a dinner to attend. While we were changing they called saying they found a double room so we had to move again. Staff very unhelpful. The hotel is under contraction, behind the reception they were scraping the wall paper and on the other side they were painting the wall. A lots of dust due to the work.
Review 20:Our online booking had not been processed. We were clearly not expected so the rooms were not ready for us. We had to wait but there was no apology for this or an offer of even a cup of tea. Shower pressure very inadequate.
Review 21:Breakfast was included
Review 22:N/a
Review 23:Fran and Eva and Nuno were amazing as they catered for what my whole family needed as they were 10 of us and we booked 5 rooms and we had a wedding there as well so it was an amazing experience
Review 24:Toilet water ran all night. No remote controller for tv. Took 20 minutes to check out due to people in front having mix up with their booking - hotel fault as it turned out.
Review 25:Very disappointing. When we arrived outside we couldn't believe oureyes, looks totally rundown. We booked the premier room for the largerbed and bath. Bath taps had been removed so couldn't have a bath, the shower was very poor. Bedroom was dated and not very clean. Therewas a foot long cobweb hanging from the ceiling. Our friends room whichwas located upstairs had no shower working and the larger bed was twozipped together so there was a ridge in the middle. When we arrived tookten minutes for someone to arrive and we were given the wrong room.Totally understaffed who did their best under the circumstances. Ourroom was located in a very dire part of the hotel near the kitchen couldsmell chip fat. I complained to the very nice receptionist who diddiscount our rooms which made it more reasonable, but to be fair wasstill totally overpriced. We travel a lot and don't expect five starbut this hotel needs a complete overhaul or lower the prices or behonest on the website. Would we stay there again never.
Review 26:The staff could not bother about anything very un professional and to be honest amateur. My room was over the boiler house the floor vibrated all night even when you go to bed!!! I complained and asked if I could be moved !!! Oh sorry no rooms speak to reception in the morning you might get a discount !!!!! That's what they advised !! Breakfast was not good my 12 year old could have cooked better no coffee either....
Review 27:Nothing at all unless you were to bulldoze the place down.
Review 28:Hotel looked tired and in need of a refurbishment in some places. Shower needed more pressure.
Review 29:Comfortable bed and quiet location. Very good breakfast and dinner.
Review 30:The whole place was tired, needed money spending on it - new windows, floorboards, furniture, doors, and carpets. I have never before used an ensuite situated in a cupboard, accessed by climbing over a bed! Even the outside of the building looked tired. We were refused check in until after 3pm. This establishment does not seem to fit the Best Western type of hotel. We will not be returning to the Falstaff,
Review 31:Nothing
Review 32:The room I had was small (even taking into account it was a single) with a tiny shower, lamps that didn't work, drab decor and outdated furnishings.
Review 33:Great people. Very friendly.
Review 34:I booked for 2 nights and they only had me down for 1 night. they blamed Best Western The first bedroom wasn't clean the 2nd bedroom the key didn't work I then said juts give me one night and I booked somewhere else for the 2nd night My Colleagues booking was also incorrect. This is a regular occurrence. Our company has stopped using them. unfortunately there was no other option that night. Staff take no accountability and juts blame Best Western
Review 35:quite good
Review 36:Mould in the bathroom which was removed after complaining- should have been cleaned prior to our usage. Not informed that there was a problem with the central heating in our room, only informed of fan heater after enquiring about the heating. The room did not have view! only a wall about 4 -5 feet away
Review 37:The breakfast
Review 38:Miserable staff. Left waiting at reception for 20 mins to collect key. Incredibly noisy floorboards in corridors. Smell to room and especially bathroom unpleasant. Is this the cleaning products used? Not an enjoyable stay.
Review 39:Good location as near to family's home to visit
Review 40:I had asked for a room with a bath, but was given a room with a shower. However, this was changed without much fuss. Although rooms and entrance area had been recently redecorated, the place is probably due for a complete refit in the not too distant future.
Review 41:Comfy bed, adequate parking, close to town centre, quite newly redecorated.
Review 42:Heating not working for 3 nights: dusty room n one morning hot water was coffee colour. Decor n furniture very dated. Curtains n nets shabby.
Review 43:Location, comfortable bed and friendly staff
Review 44:Some great staff, overworked at times it seems . The gentleman at the reception on my arrival was more interested on his phone call, than giving me attention on check in. In the morning at breakfast, completely forgot I had asked for tea finished went out and came back but still...
Review 45:A quite area and a nice looking building and great food in the restaurant. Maybe old glory.
Review 46:Poor selection at bar of beer, nothing on tap and limited bottled. Fluctuating internet connection. Value for money.
Review 47:Location was ideal for my needs on this trip, great pub round the corner for good beer and food.
Review 48:In my opinion (as a retired Best Western GM) an amazingly poor choice of décor in the foyer/reception entrance area and bedroom dominate use of black with silver and mirrors giving the impression a quite different kind of establishment! Lack of bathroom toiletries, only one tablet of soap - no shower gel or shampoo etc., I think Best Western standards have slipping. .
Review 49:Quiet position close to the centre of Leamington Spa.
Review 50:Booked double, hotel said twin Booked, got allocated 2 singles. No hot water or heating. Room's tired and dingy. Breakfast luke warm. Hotel generally seen better days.
Review 51:Going home, 50% discount negotiated. Staff trying there best
Review 52:Only single room available , when double required!
Review 53:Hello completely full and room type fully booked. But very helpful staff, couldn't do more to help.
Review 54:the first room was in need of an overhaul especially the bathroom as i am only small but found it difficult to get in shower
Review 55:the staff were very friendly and helpful nothing too much trouble to do. willing to change rooms for us
Review 56:Very poor welcome. Receptionist just kep right on talking on telephone, keeping head down without so much of an acknowledgement. Even when she got up to get a document there wasn't even 'soory to keep you' Double bed was scarcely a double.
Review 57:Convenience of location
Review 58:Only spent 3 nights, Sunday and Monday the room never got touched.was told we never left key left key second day room still not touched Sink in bathroom had a big crack and the shower curtain was not clean Only had one evening meal that was not to good ether
Review 59:the evening watress saying that there wasn't any glutton free bread.i was assured by the reception when I booked in, there would be as they always have it. there was some at breakfast next morning..
Review 60:the staff were very polite and happy
Review 61:The location is bad. ( Nothing around) The parking outside of the hotelis very bad. The hotel is old, not clean, extremely noisy because of theold floors that crack all the time every time a person is walking in thecorridors !!! . We have been waked up at 6 in the morning due to noiseof the television of a neighbor as strong as if we had it in our room!!! The staff in restaurant is unprofessional, food is just warmed inmicro waves (I suppose, but I am quite sure). The personn at reception (a fat blond...) is "very slow". We travel often, but reallythis hotel is of a 0 value from a to z !!! Please stop to recommand it.
Review 62:Sorry, but: nothing !!
Review 63:We arrived at the same time as a coach party & were totally overlooked. Wi-Fi dropped in & out. Bathroom tatty. St breakfast we had to ask for tea, milk & serviettes at the table. Plates cold. Baked beans cold.
Review 64:The location & easy parking
Review 65:Shower didn't work, squeaky door but they were fixed after being reported. View from room was disappointing but cannot have everything
Review 66:Ease of travelling to the bowls venue. Room was quiet.
Review 67:Only one key was given us for the room and although it was technically summer it was a cold wet day and night and needed warming up later on. No heating was available and even the towel rack didn't heat up when we turned it on.
Review 68:The room was comfortable with adequate storage space and supply of tea/coffee milk. It was very clean
Review 69:Nothing major - some minor, but quite annoying difficulties. My room was small and it was difficult to do anything apart from sleeping in it. Ironing was a pain, the board barely fit between the bed and the closet. All electricity sockets located in one single spot in the corner of the room (and no, not next to your bed which would have been convenient). Restaurant seemed to have been understaffed at times. I was sometimes asked if I want coffee or tee with my breakfast and sometimes I had to ask for it myself because nobody bothered. Oh, and why are there no toilet brushes... ?
Review 70:Comfy bed, fast wifi, good breakfast food, decent bar prices.
Review 71:Had to wait too long for evening meal, although we had booked. There were only 3 staff trying to cover bar, waiting at table and reception! More were needed.
Review 72:Convient for the national bowls. Parking on doorstep.
Review 73:Two evening meals food very good but had to wait an hour and a half on both nights with many complaints also from other guests and then got charged twice for same meal.
Review 74:Breakfast - delays in provision of bacon, eggs and tomatoes. Dinner - long delays between ordering and service of meal, though food was good when it arrived.
Review 75:Location is good and quiet. Room comfortable and clean.
Review 76:We booked for bed and breakfast but the breakfast was very poor. Therewas little food on the buffet table and when asked for grapefruitsegments I was given a whole grapefruit cut in half. When we called thewaitress to our table to order a cooked breakfast (after about 20minutes wait) we were told there was a problem and we couldn't haveone. I asked again for 2 cooked breakfasts and we were told we wouldhave to wait sometime. We said we would wait and had coffee whilewaiting. After about a further 20 minutes the lukewarm breakfastsarrived. In the meantime other people had arrived in the restaurant tobe told they couldn't have a cooked breakfast. Other people had beenwaiting an hour for their breakfasts. I will not be returning back hereand would advise people to seek an alternative hotel in Leamington.
Review 77:The location was good and within easy walking distance to centre ofLeamington. Comfortable bed.
Review 78:The hotel was a conversion from an upper-middle class terrace of some four or five huoses that had fallen upon poorer times. The conversion into a hotel wa unsuccessful. It produced long, winding corridors between the components, too many stairs to climb for an elderly couple, rooms that were too small, cramped following the installation of a purpose built En-suite facility. Chep and nasty.
Review 79:We were travelling to a holiday base in the north midlands and needed an overnight stop to cut our travelling in two. This was a 'Best Western' Hotel, a Franchise chain that we have used in the past - so we did expect a good standard hotel. We were disappointed.
Review 80:the first room was a single room size with a double bed in. the shower cubicle was very small . the window had to be kept open with a kitchen roll under it! the sash cord was non existent. the service in the dining room was very slow ,we went in at 7.30p.m. had 1 course and did not get out until.50p.m.they had run out of steak!!
Review 81:tired looking, small room, could do with a refresh and general Maintance (shower was HOT) and lights didn't work properly
Review 82:Good location and walkable to centre of town.
Review 83:The quality of the drinks behind the bar were suspect. The pricing of the drinks was also suspect. There was a massive delay in serving meals in the restaurant in the evening on 3rd Aug. Most of the staff barely spoke any English and their lack of knowledge around serving food and who ordered what meal was a very low standard. Overall the hotel was very, very poor.
Review 84:The location was great for what we needed to do.
Review 85:Asked for a very quiet room - room 15 wasn't I could hear the guy pee above me. To get free WiFi you have to sign up for "select" companies knowing your personnel info.
Review 86:Breakfast
Review 87:Had to change room lock did not work but had same issue with second room and had to go back to reception each time I wanted to get in room.
Review 88:Staff were friendly and the rooms was clean.the breakfast was good.
Review 89:The breakfast all seemed very plastic and cold. We had English cooked breakfast. Also using foreign staff - useless they haven't a clue what your asking for. Pillows very hard, like bags of cement. Certainly was not worth £105.00 a night and that didn't include the breakfast.
Review 90:We were impressed with reception staff - your booking for us was not on their system but staff very helpful and soon sorted it. The bed and room was fine.
Review 91:Piled up surplus furniture outside our room. Smell of cigarette smoke, constantly (drifted in through open doors). Very poor shower and it was loose on the wall. Overflowing ashtrays at the external entrances. Had the feeling of a business in decline. Mediterranean style decor was out of keeping with an English hotel. A party of six had to wait over an hour for dinner to be served. Car park untidy and trod mud into the car. No blind or curtain in bathroom.
Review 92:Room was clean and adequate for the price paid.
Review 93:Everything a little tired, room iron in bad condition hairdryer did not work and windows curtain and general cleanliness not great
Review 94:It worked for what we needed
Review 95:It was quite a long walk to the bedroom and if we had been a bit more infirm would have been very difficult. The outside of the building and therefore first impression was not good and it was therefore a pleasant surprise when we entered the hotel. The reception staff were very pleasant but some difficult to understand or to understand us.
Review 96:The hotel was extremely comfortable and the decor was in keeping with the buklding
Review 97:Shower, no pressure or any sort of control. Hotel clean but looks tired.Mold in bathroom as extractors was switch off, runs all the time and noisy
Review 98:Foodwasgood
Review 99:The room was an overheated, stuffy box without a/c or windows that could be opened properly. The noisy portable fan did very little to reduce the discomfort.
Review 100:The entire experience, too many issues to list. As its obvious the management and staff dont care anymore, I really can not be bothered to list the problems
Review 101:I only had to stay one night
Review 102:No variation on menu eg couldn't have chips instead of potatoes. Also some of group had special dietary requirements + not much provision for this. Also outside of hotel could do with a makeover because creates very bad first impression
Review 103:Sadly, I had very little sleep as I found the hotel very noisy. I am a very light sleeper and was woken up several times by people just walking along the hallway or switching on a light in an adjacent room. On the second night, someone was talking quite loudly outside my window which woke me up. Because I am such a light sleeper, I wouldn't stay at the hotel again even though it had many plus points. A good option for someone who can sleep through noise though.
Review 104:This hotel is fairly low cost so a good option for someone on a budget. The staff at the hotel were very friendly. It is in an excellent location with lots of car parking. The breakfast was very good with a lot of choice and everything cooked very well. I also had an evening bar meal which was excellent quality and value for money. A bottle of wine at happy hour was extremely good value.
Review 105:Room was right next to huge extractors and air con units. On arrival guest ahead of me was asked if required morning paper, table for dinner etc I was not asked.
Review 106:There is no lift in the hotel so all bags have to be dragged up and down stairs. The noise of the fan in the bathroom at night is terrible - we couldn't get a nights sleep for the 4 nights we were there. The walls in the bedrooms are paper thin so we could hear the conversation of the people in the room next door. We could even hear them switching off the light. Rooms were badly serviced - only had the bin in our room emptied once in 4 days. Staff seemed to be under pressure all the time. The same employees were on duty all day everyday. One young guy was looking after the reception, serving in the bar and clearing tables in the dining room all at the same time. Fawlty Towers had nothing on it. There is a brochure available at the hotel showing other ' Best Western' Hotels in the U.K. I don't know how 'Best Western' could allow their name to be associated with this particular establishment. It was a joke which cost us dearly.
Review 107:We liked our breakfast which was cooked freshly - poached eggs.
Review 108:This hotel does not live up to the standard that we have come to expect of Best Western. It looked scruffy when we pulled up outside and most of the interior was the same - it is well overdue for a refurb! I also found the shower controls in the en suite very difficult to operate.
Review 109:Shower pressure very low, no more than a big dribble. Asked for a call at 0700;didn;t happen, maybe because there was no phone in the room? Big pile of abandoned furniture outside our door did not impress.
Review 110:Plenty of clean fluffy towels Big bed, loads of space!
Review 111:The outside was in a terrible state, paint flaking off the walls, cig. dimps all over the floor. The entrance was very tired. The rooms were awful, the first was tiny and tired the noise from the adjacent room was incredible, the next was as bad the third stank of smoking, the next was refurbished - badly, the curtains were see through, chips in the bath, and furniture stored outside whilst they refurbished another room. They wouldn't release me from the commitment. this is a hotel in a poor state of repair.
Review 112:Leaving
Review 113:Poor cleanliness, chain on door ripped off. Light not working, main light. Shower curtain clean but in desperate need of new one, discoloured at bottom. Non slip mat in shower cubicle overs the drain hole, nearly flooded bathroom and no where to put toiletries in shower. Bed clean but not made properly, looks like house keeping in a rush. Did tell reception staff and have apologised. Thank you
Review 114:Good location
Review 115:Bar staff a little unprofessional. Serving a member of staff and chatting while the customer had to wait. Shouting across the bar to my wife what her drink would cost!
Review 116:Reception staff friendly and helpful. Minor calamity with tea tray shelf dealt with promptly.
Review 117:Hotel in general a bit dated could do with a spruce up, but cant really argue for the price.
Review 118:Great WiFi, good breakfast, a flat screen that actually has channels to watch!
Review 119:rooms were very cold. there was heating but when its on its too hot.horrible humming noise from ventilator right outside my window
Review 120:reception area/location/parking
Review 121:The hotel was very dated and it seemed as if it hadn't been updated since the 1970's. The plastic overhead shower didn't work and when I asked for Cappuccino it caused great confusion. Sachets of Nescafe was the only coffee available.
Review 122:Bathroom needs deep cleaning, evidence of mould in the shower , just needs a new bathroom really. shower temperamental, breakfast bacon and sausage tasted as though it had been microwaved rather than oven or grill cooked .
Review 123:good nights sleep . staff very friendly and helpful
Review 124:First room offered was down a succession of dark corridors through damaged doors and old decoration. The room itself was dark, dingy and smelt of sewerage. The second room was lightter on the first fllor. Dirty carpet, dirty bathroom, dirrty cupbards. I didn't want to take off my coat let alone hang anything up. As the hotel was unable to offer us anything else, we happily found somewhetre else. As we had pre-paid for 2 nights we asked if we may receive a refuund for the second night. We have not had an acknowledgement, let alone a response
Review 125:Absolutley nothing. View of this hotel in the rear view mirror was about the best thing I can say.
Review 126:Cleanliness very poor, bad smell in corridor, decor in great need of updating, housekeeping needs good overhaul, poor.
Review 127:Location to town, walking distance, car park.
Review 128:Chips on the steps as we entered hotel! Dirty car park, with empty water bottles, Sainsbury's orange bags and bits and bobs around. Rubbish bin at entrance not empted. Empty drinks glasses and sheets left around. When we arrived we were told we hadn't booked even though we had a booking number! We were fitted in a box room at the top of the hotel even though we are gold card holders and staff knew. It would help if the manager took more interest in her job and wasn't always sitting at her desk!! This hotel could have a lot going for it if the management was up to the job. They need more training and more inspections. The Americans could teach the staff how to run things. Just so sad I have had to tell you, this but if you are not told you cannot put things right. I have never had to complain like this before.
Review 129:Clean Sheets, comfortable bed and good porridge. Breakfast staff good.
Review 130:Hotel was dated. Room felt dirty due to old soiled carpet Old furniture and room generally in a very poor condition. Net curtains dirty and ripped. Heating was on constant, valves at radiator did not work. Towels in bathroom dirty
Review 131:The only down side to the room was the shower. It was very small and water flow was weak. A larger person would not be able to get in or out. There is sufficient room in the bathroom to create a good quality walk in shower.
Review 132:Staff are polite and friendly and there are noise problems from other rooms and guests - in my view, a common problem in hotels.
Review 133:Shower and room really quite a rip off! Really do need to adjust price accordingly. Should really make some changes and updates to shower.
Review 134:Hotel is OK and as a regular user I'm usually quite happy but room 30 is not worth £75.
Review 135:Small room, single bed. Normally when I book a single occupancy room, you get a double bed - not here! The bathroom was mostly clean, but the shower was possibly the worst I have ever experienced - virtually no water pressure. Parking was terrible. The car park at the back (there are 2 hotel entrances) was full, so I had to park at the front of the hotel, where there is barely room to get your car in.
Review 136:Location of the hotel. Nice breakfast. Friendly staff.
