Reviews for Invergarry Hotel
Review 1:- food a bit expensive - very close to the road - fire alarm 3 times during the night (but it was supposed to be a customer smoking)
Review 2:- The Brasserie - The lobby close to the fire
Review 3:Bed a bit small to us, as we used to sleep in a king size and didn't liked the plastic ? sheets under the normal bed linen, but other than that everything was ok. Very good breakfast!
Review 4:Beautiful environment, like in a fairy tale.
Review 5:- Bad reception. We booked the family room which is actually 2 rooms with connection for 4 people through "booking.com" for 3 adults and 1 child of 12 years old. For any reason the confirmation in the reception showed for 3. The receptionist was very aggressively to ask to pay 27£ on top as we are 4. In any case, either is 4 or 3, since we paid for 2 rooms, the prices are same. We did not agree for the extra charge. The staff was very agreesive with pretty rude attitude. After we double checked, still found the prices should be same. But till the morning, another staff argued again. But finally they found we were right and did not get us to pay. However, we will never get back to this hotel after having been treated that way. - Waked up by fire alarm ringed 3 times towards 23:00. They did not even feel sorry about it. - The room we had is freezingly cold even the heaters were up to max. Just very bad insolation.
Review 6:Location as it is on the mi-way of our trip to Skye. Good variety for breakfast.
Review 7:As above
Review 8:Generally good, however did not exceed expectations, food was fairly mediocre considering **** rated by Scottish tourist board. Requested room with river view and request accommodated, room a little disappointing with thin walls, but was comfortable, no bottled water. I would be very reluctant to pay full price and consider the room in the £80-90 bracket rather than the £98 paid. Partners food was very good a breast of chicken stuffed with haggis however haddock and chips very disappointed with. Wine was value. Overall agree with **** rating but could do better. The staff on the whole friendly and helpful but some difficulty with bar staff grasping English, and when fire alarm went off, staff had difficulty re-setting and it would have been a nice gesture for the managers who were present at breakfast acknowledging and polite apology that's assuming there were made aware, on hand over/ take over. As with many travelers a very good stop over on the way to Skye, with more positives than negatives that said I stick with my opinion of being over priced. Wishing staff and management all the best for 2016.
Review 9:This hotel is a dead zone ,no atmosphere to it at all, bar closed at 10pm on a saturdy night no back ground music no tv , a couple playing monopoly to pass the night, bar is away from the 2 small sitting areas where you could here a pin drop ,same at breakfast everyone sat in silence and you could here the toast being buttered and that seemed noisy, people whispered to fit in .
Review 10:The cleanliness and the breakfast. Nice log fire.
Review 11:Wonderfully staffed by a family, delicious food and beautiful surroundings. The rooms were very clean, and the dining room and breakfast room were lovely!
Review 12:We had a very nice room (The Master) but on retiring after 10PM t someone in a nearby room decided to have a shower. The noise from the plumbing was incredible!! Fortunately short lived and we had a peaceful night followed by a really nice breakfast.
Review 13:We had dinner and were "blown away" by the presentation and flavours - a really pleasant surprise!!
Review 14:It would have been perfection if log fire had been on in lounge but then again it was an unusually hot dat for October.
Review 15:Lovely hotel, amazing food, excellent value, informal but without being too casual, service excellent and friendly. Location central to so many activities and locations.
Review 16:We did try to book on the route back...very last minute but they were charging an awful lot for the room so we had to pass and travel on which was a bit of a disappointment. I think they missed out by not doing some form of discount esp considering the lateness of my call and the fact that we would have eaten with them again. If they'd offered us the first nights rate they would have been £150 up inc food...shame.
Review 17:The hotel was lovely and really well placed for our road trip. The food was fantastic and the staff very friendly. Good room with upgrade and great wifi.
Review 18:High price for a very small room under the roof. Elder people would not be able to go there, due to many stairs.
Review 19:Nice Area, very good kitchen. Friendly staff, who helped to find some interesting places to see
Review 20:The quality of the cooked breakfast was poor. The bed in room 8 was old and uncomfortable and when brought to the attention of the staff on departure they were not interested.
Review 21:The evening meal was to a high standard
Review 22:The couple we went with had a problem with a bed with springs making it uncomfortable, it took two goes to correct this. Also we were at the hotel for a week and had a room with a very small wardrobe.
Review 23:The hotel was clean and in a nice location
Review 24:Rather remote; there is nowhere else to eat, so you tend to be a captive at the hotel. Very limited wine list for dinner.
Review 25:Nice hotel, very friendly staff, excellent breakfast.
Review 26:The location of the hotel is not so good, because there is nothing within spitting distance (more than an hour car drive)
Review 27:The friendly staff, the marvelous cuisine, the quality of the breakfast, the optic and accommodation of the room.
Review 28:The staff were welcoming and helpful. The rooms were very clean, well designed and comfortable. The food was excellent - an imaginative menu and plenty of choice. We will definitely come back.
Review 29:A slight downer is that I had a problem with the loo, which was apparently broken. I could of course have reported it but as it was not insurmountable and being tired I did not want to be fussed with changingg room so i didn't bother. However, if it was not for that I would have given an "excellent" marking
Review 30:Helpful welcome, particularly with regard secure storage of bike and food was very good
Review 31:Given that the Canadian dollar is so low, it's painfully obvious how expensive travelling in Scotland; even B&Bs can be. When you pay more for Guest Inns (paying more) you expect to get good beds. We stayed two nights in two rooms: Rm 10/small single, and Rm 8/sm double. Both had nicely fitted en suite bathrooms. However Rm 8 had a very poor bed, with a hard mattress covered by a pilled, scratchy/gritty feeling mattress cover. Solved this by placing the decorative coverlet under the bottom sheet and remaking the bed in order to create some comfort and get off to sleep. Room 10 bed was fine, but the shower had hot water issues: even though staff were sympathetic, suggesting waiting until quieter time of day (i.e. get up earlier) to shower. But this didn't resolve the lack of hot water. Although we mentioned it again on check out, no discount or rebate was offered. I won't stay at this hotel again given how important beds & showers are when I travel, but other travellers may not mind. That said, I would definitely stop to eat in restaurant again.
Review 32:Very pleasant, historic guest house with a good restaurant but be prepared for a hike up to the upper floor; no elevator. Staff manager carried my bag - very helpful as I'd was injured during travels, and appreciated the help. Bathrooms were very nicely updated though we had an issue in room 10 with hot water in shower. Location makes for a suitable stop/base at crossroads west (towards Skye) and north (towards Inverness).
Review 33:The prizes at the hotel's bar-restaurant (The Brasserie) are awfully expensive, at it is the only eating facility located at Invergarry. We preferred taking the car and driving up to Fort Augustus por dinner!
Review 34:Lovely place, both the hotel (I felt like coming back at winter time,it might be even cosier to sit there near the chimney!) and Invergarry, with a very pretty landscape. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Review 35:This is not really a dislike, but we booked the room at the last minute so it was the only room they had at short notice. As it was in the attic it was a little compact and a bit of a trek up steep stairs.
Review 36:Was very easy to find, comfortable, friendly & set in a perfect location on route to Skye. It had that rustic Scottish feel to the place, a well stocked bar and the breakfast was superb.
Review 37:nothing
Review 38:Perfect place to stay whilst visiting the Highlands. Location great, Friendly Helpful Staff, Excellent Quality Breakfast & Clean comfortable room.
Review 39:The hotel is located beside a junction on a major highland through-route and opposite a bus stop. This suited me but some people might want more seclusion. Very tall people might want to avoid some attic rooms.
Review 40:The hotel was super-clean and staff without exception very friendly and efficient. Surroundings full of character and the ambience laid-back and rural. The food was the best I have had anywhere on my travels in Scotland and portions were generous. Wine list not the longest but very well chosen. Highly recommended!
Review 41:What is it? A hotel, a bistro a walk in pub? it is trying to be all thins to all people which is not good for residents, who should have separate and dedicated entrance. wi fi sporadic. room under attic, e trembly hot night (unseasonal) but had to ask for sheet as it was impossible to use doona.
Review 42:great staff but appeared to be overworked and management not in evidence
Review 43:Double bed. Just can't get used to it
Review 44:Loved our little top floor room listening to the river run although a it cramped especially the bathroom. Food was excellent and staff helpful
Review 45:No criticisms.
Review 46:We were made very welcome and enjoyed all aspects of our stay, except the weather! A small unpretentious hotel that punches above its weight.
Review 47:Experienced fire-alarm during our stay where staff were buys trying to turn it off but had no one communicating how urgent, how real or any real information about what was happening. We had to ask, meanwhile we saw them still serving in the bar amid the piercing alarm. They need to improve thier fire-drill and it's communications
Review 48:Lovely character Inn; premises, rooms, bar and small side garden, directly across the road from river with walking paths.
Review 49:The overall Hotel is really nice and clean. The breakfast in the morning is amazing. Really good choice of food. I loved to take something different this time then the normal scottish breakfast. Coffee was really good. I would recommend this place to everyone and visit it again.
Review 50:Very noisy plumbing was the only negative here. Would have been good to have a more varied menu
Review 51:Lovely staff, food and locations. Very comfortable room. Easy parking.
Review 52:no lift-we had to carry --with help- a lot of bags to the top floor(6 weeks of travelling) staff did offer to carry up
Review 53:the staff was very friendly and helpful large shower room lovely views and setting lovely meals and beautifully presented--great chef!!bo
Review 54:Lack of hair dryer in room. Bar area thick with kitchen cooking smells in the evening. Hotel was nice, friendly, comfortable, but not sure worth the money we paid for one night.
Review 55:Room very nice, large, comfortable. Food was excellent
Review 56:No bad experience but you'll have to carry your suitcases upstairs:)
Review 57:Beautiful setting on the river. Loved the fireplace and meeting people from all over. Very friendly and accommodating staff.
Review 58:Nothing was negative..maybe except 11 hour journey in car to get there! But nothing about hotel it was lovely!
Review 59:Hotel was well situated, lovely walks just on the door step. The rooms are comfortable and comfy, amazing breakfast and lovely staff, friendly and helpful...and to top it off the resturant was great, lovely food.
Review 60:Poor breakfast why hotels cannot provide fresh fruit as opposed to tinned is beyond me in the availabilty of fresh fruit availability. Dinner was very dry and seemed to have been re-heated.
Review 61:Not a lot!!
Review 62:Didn't have one.
Review 63:Lovely location. Staff very friendly. Evening meal and breakfast excellent. Had steak and burger for our evening meals and they were cooked exactly as we asked. WiFi worked really well because we were able to go on Face Time with our son - couldn't do that anywhere else we stayed during our 10 night holiday. Great paintings and info all over the walls inside the hotel.
Review 64:A character property with comfortable rooms and great food. Well located at the junction of A 87 & A82 but quiet and great view over the river Garry.
Review 65:Our bed was really uncomfortable- after 3 nights, we both had sore backs. Too soft, plus they had what sounded and felt like 'plastic"??? under the sheet? something crinkled making a loud noise every time you moved. ALso, just a note: The lighting in the common areas of the hotel lacks in "vibe" and coziness. The areas including the bar and restaurant were Brightly lit with no ambiance at all. Unlike the photos online. It made us not want to be in those areas at all even though the spaces seemed clean and comfortable, but there was no thought put to ambience at all. And to folks traveling for leisure this is VERY important.
Review 66:Room was clean, very modern and clean bathroom- good breakfast.
Review 67:The hotel could use a bit of paint here and there.
Review 68:A nice hotel, located perfectly on the Great Glen Way. The food was OK, as was the bar. The breakfast was really good.
Review 69:Hard to get wifi signal in our room : we had to go in the lobby to use the wifi Internet access.
Review 70:Location not far from the Loch Ness in a beautiful wild area, comfort and scottish breakfast.
Review 71:bath in ensuite would have been nice. Resteraunt menu was very limited and completely different from one in room which was dissapointing as both dishes my partner and I chose from room menu were not available .so I had ham egg and chips .and my partner had steak baggette . due to chefs day off food was very good quality but menu was dissapointing. Lack of sockets in room (4 way extension under desk was nuisance to use)
Review 72:Lovely location and beautiful elegant but traditional decor ..stayed in master room stunning furnature and bed and lovely views of the river and we were treated to a Highland cow and her calf's frolicking on the other side ..good selection on breakfast menu .service was great and the food we did get was excellent ..more expensive than we would normally spend on room but did enjoy a little luxury .
Review 73:We had paid in full prior to our visit and could not go on our holiday because our daughter was taken seriously ill. We understand that the payment cannot be refunded but think it is unreasonable that the paid for booking could not be transferred. All our other hotels assisted us with this. Poor show Invergarry Hotel.
Review 74:Felt the bed was bit on the soft side - might be just personal preference. There was wifi in the hotel but it did not worked in the rooms, and connection wasn't great in the lounge either.
Review 75:The hotel is set in a nice location and is top quality for the price paid. We stayed in a small double which was perfectly fine. Food at The brasserie is absolutely great, and same for for the breakfast.
Review 76:There was a bad piece of root vegetable on the plate which we left.
Review 77:We really liked the friendly staff who made us feel at home from the start. Our room and en-suite were very clean and tidy. The menu for the evening meal was varied and the food was gorgeous, including my partners venison which she said was particularly gorgeous !
Review 78:Normally I have something to complain about but on this occasion it was all very good. I will stay there again.
Review 79:I liked the fact that the staff were genuinely interested in being helpful. Rooms up to date and warm.
Review 80:Not a complaint but the noise of traffic was a bit of a distraction and the wifi was a bit of a hit or miss
Review 81:The hotel was lovely and the staff friendly. Had a lovely meal in the restuarant.
Review 82:Menu was a bit depleted by a busier than expected lunchtime. But what was on offer was good.
Review 83:Very friendly welcome, lovely log fires, just what was needed after a day on the hills
Review 84:Internet intermittent but appeared to be weather-related.
Review 85:Served pot of tea by roaring fire in bar. Excellent dinner and serving staff very accommodating. Splendid Scottish breakfast.
Review 86:internet was not the best in some areas of the hotel but then again you do not go there to surf the net
Review 87:Great location and high standard of rooms. Food was very good
Review 88:Pleasant staff who went out of their way to help. Despite the fact that the hotel was very quiet the night we stayed, all the public spaces had well kept open fires which made the whole hotel warm and inviting.
Review 89:Having paid a supplement for a room with a king-size bed, which didn't look king-size to me, I then had to pay a further supplement for an upgrade (although it was worth it)
Review 90:Excellent location Comfortable room (after paying a further supplement) Good breakfast served to our table next to a roaring fire Pleasant staff
Review 91:Didn't have a small fridge
Review 92:Stuff was very helpful and friendly. Bed is very comfortable. Car parking is easy, just in front of the hotel. Location is very good in both ways for us on the way of Eilean Donan Castle and the nature around the hotel is magnificent; a stone bridge, quiet river, red, green, yellow trees. Building itself is very beautiful too. We enjoyed our stay very much.
Review 93:No lift, so not so good if you have difficulties climbing stairs; Wifi only in Lobby/ public rooms
Review 94:Very friendly staff; good food; evenso it is at a main road, extremely quiet at night
Review 95:• It set the bar high, so some other places we stayed in subsequently were less exciting :)
Review 96:• The interior has a great deal of character – more than the exterior gives away. • The staff were friendly. • The room/bathroom design (appearance) was excellent. • The common rooms are spot-on : some of the nicest we saw on our trip. • The breakfast was great also. Generally it felt like the ambience of the place was the least 'forced' or 'artificial' of our trip (and we stayed in a good number of high rated, more expensive places)
Review 97:Too many stairs, small room - giant bathroom, which was kinda weird. Staff were awful (non professional).
Review 98:Breakfast was great, location was great, bathroom is huge. very nice place.
Review 99:The chairs in the breakfast room were hard to maneuver. I would have liked to put felt pads on the bottom of the legs to reduce the noise when changing positions. That is the only thing that we did not like.
Review 100:The comfort and furnishings of the room. The friendliness of the staff. Breakfast was wonderful every morning. It was peaceful and quiet. Good location for exploring the Highlands.
Review 101:The fact that we could only stay one night!
Review 102:We arrived late afternoon on a rainy day (this is Scotland after all) from the welcoming lobby to Tartan carpets to our cozy room on the third floor, all was just as it should be. We could picture how lovely it must be in the winter time. Breakfast was especially delicious. Wonderful scrambled eggs with salmon. We will return.
Review 103:Restaurant and common areas a bit intimidating and noisy. Useless phone and internet connection throughout hotel - wifi not good! absolutely freezing cold in the night -duvet and pillows thin.
Review 104:Nice hotel for couple. Ate a snack for dinner in my room. Breakfast was nice - I sat in a room with two gentlemen travelling alone as I ate early. Nicely furnished hotel with lovely views over river
Review 105:A great hotel situated in a great location and not far from all the best attractions. The furnishing in the hotel were lovely and comfortable. Friendly and attentive staff..lovely food..what more can you ask for..also great price!
Review 106:- No Wifi on 2nd floor - Stairs to 2nd floor are steep and tight- hard to navigate with larger luggage - Repairs were required in our room on two items that did get fixed the next day -We arrived after 5:00 pm and there was a sign to go to the bar to check in. That was our first impression and did not strike us a 4 star hotel- having no staff at the front entrance, although we did see the quirkiness in it - We were a little confused by having to turn over our room key, we were not allow to take it (we did the first day, not realizing the policy)- another quirky measure - There was a hole in the floor boards in our room below the carpet. I am certain under the right conditions someone could twist an ankle if you are not steady. - The 2 star hotel we stayed in the night before was similar - perhaps the 2 star should have been a 3 star and the 4 star a 3 star. The Invergarry suffered by comparison. - Lighting was sparse - part of the decor I guess so not a negative as it was in keeping with the age of the facility- but we like things a little brighter
Review 107:- New bathroom fixtures - almost all new - Clean. - Staff doing multiple jobs (serving food, cleaning rooms, checking us in - almost a necessity I guess- it was different and quirky - Food was basic but decent - a little heavy tasting but was fresh
Review 108:The small room was only suitable for a short stay due to the lack of storage, but we were aware that it was a small room on booking.
Review 109:The general atmosphere and location of this hotel gives a feeling of warmth and comfort you feel would typify the highland hospitality of old.Staff and food excellent.
Review 110:Poor wifi reception.
Review 111:A pleasant evening spent having a drink outside, a very good meal, a quiet lounge. Very handy place to stop on our travels, central.
Review 112:Comfort and history too tucked away in the country. The breakfast provided was very good and the restaurant on site was great. Would liked to have stayed longer.
Review 113:I should have taken my own pillow
Review 114:This hotel is lovely and well positioned for travelling in the Highlands and Skye. The staff are first class, the perfect balance of client focussed and friendly, and couldn't have been more helpful. Our room was roomy, comfortable, beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. The food was excellent, breakfasts have a lovely choice and evening meals were fabulous - beautifully presented and absolutely delicious.
Review 115:Very comfortable rooms with lovely views. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfasts amazing with a full exquisite choice. Beautiful place all round, ideally situated for routes to everywhere. So good we stayed an extra night.
Review 116:To stay in the hotel. It wasn't possible two months before to cancel the booking of this hotel. So we payed five nights and left after two because it was in that way how we feared. There was no accomodate from the staff. They insisted on there bad booking conditions.
Review 117:To leave the hotel again
Review 118:We enjoyed a wonderful 5 day holiday in the north with the Invergarry Hotel as our base. The Ben Tee family suite was ideal for us and our two young children. We slept well, ate well and the owner and staff made us feel "right at home" from start to finish...our kids really didn't want to leave. Invergarry is an excellent location for exploring the north country by road but it also offers beautiful walking and trail running just across the road from the Hotel. The owner's local knowledge and advice made our road and trail experiences really memorable.
Review 119:If you have a room on the top floor--and if you are relatively tall (5'10 or taller), you may have some trouble. Both the hall and some of the rooms slant downward with the shape of the roof, making one stoop to walk the hall or get into some areas of the room.
Review 120:The friendly staff The well thought out furniture and bathroom fixtures Good location
Review 121:No wifi Rude male receptionist/manager Expensive 1st Floor landing door opens straight onto stairs - very dangerous
Review 122:Great location Friendly (female) staff
Review 123:The food was exceptional Nice pub with accomodating folks Very nice and comfortable rooms Great location in the middle of lochs and monroes Super friendly people
Review 124:A bit expensive
Review 125:Nestled amidst stunning surroundings, beautifully presented and clean room and ensuite bathroom, great breakfast, pleasant and helpful staff
Review 126:Not much really. No extractor fan in the bathroom (becomes quite steamy). Unreliable wireless reception.
Review 127:Nice rooms with lovely linen. We had a "small double" which was cute and comfortable. Beautiful riverside walk directly opposite the hotel (recommended). Staff are excellent - always on hand when you need something. Food is good.
Review 128:The head room in the upper floor rooms was a little restricting but a very small price to pay for such a gem in the most convenient of locations. We loved our four day stay
Review 129:The staff and whole hotel layout and facilities for bed and breakfast visitors was superb. The location, in the centre of a beautiful area, was very convenient for seeing other attractions and we were always made to feel very special and welcome on our return. The food was outstanding , beautifully presented and served by efficient, friendly staff.
Review 130:As previously noted, the wifi was difficult, and it didn't work in our room.
Review 131:We picked this location as we were en route to the Isle of Skye from Glasgow. I was really pleased the moment I saw the hotel. The hotel is very charming, lots of sitting areas, a bar stocked with Scottish whiskeys, and with all the facilities you'd expect from a 21st century hotel. There are walking trails right across the road. The staff was very helpful and friendly, and the restaurant was quite good. A very substantial breakfast was included.
Review 132:The low attic ceiling over toilet in bathroom of single room was an 'inconvenience!'
Review 133:Spacious rooms and bathroom. Staff were friendly and helpful. Food was very good and menu had a varied selection.
Review 134:It was a very hot day, and the room was sweltering hot, 2 of the 3 small windows were jammed shut by paint. But I guess heat isnt normally a problem. Its pricey for whats on offer, as is the food and drink. Wi-fi was non existent.
Review 135:Great situation. Quality furnishings and good public seating areas.
Review 136:Room 2 - not all windows opened and the weather was very hot. Traffic noise was at times quite noticeable
Review 137:Friendliness of staff and quality of food. Cleanliness of room.
Review 138:Although nice views of the river opposite, it is right next to the road, a little bit noisy.
Review 139:Rooms and Food were very good. Pleasant small lounges to sit. Staff were helpful.
