Reviews for Balmule House

Review 1:There are many stairs to the top floor and so not suitable for everyone.

Review 2:It is set in a beautiful location. The staff were very helpful and friendly. There was a communal kitchen on the top floor. The breakfast was one of the best I've had and the beds were very comfy!

Review 3:Everything about Balmule House was fantastic. Loved that every room was different, very clean and catered for your every need. Management were more than helpful with a list of restaurants to eat at.

Review 4:If you want to get away from the stress of everyday life this is the place, Duncan is a great host, you can sit in the drawing room and sip your own favourite tipple in the peace and quiet.

Review 5:The only thing I found difficult was having a shower without soaking the whole floor. But that could be just me.

Review 6:From coming up the driveway and getting the first view to leaving was so relaxing. The deccor was amazing.

Review 7:nothing to dislike - perhaps shower in bathroom could have been up to the high standard of everything else.

Review 8:from the outset with a very warm reception to being shown to our wonderful room with connecting huge bathroom, very clean room and large comfortable bed. Beautiful countyside and garden views and very quiet yet with an hour of central Edinburgh, thoroughly recommend

Review 9:This is a beautiful hotel that feels like a family home, with exceptional decor and atmosphere, located in beautiful surrounds. Feels like you're miles from the city but just a 10 minute drive from Dunfermline.

Review 10:That we had to leave.

Review 11:We stopped for a weekend at the balmule and from the moment we Drove upto the house it was clear to see that the hotel would be beautiful. Once inside we were not disappointed. Lovely, gracious staff, the master suite was beyond words. We didn't want to leave. We would definitely recommend and revisit.

Review 12:This is a stunning property, decorated and furnished beautifully. At the same time it feels like a home- fires burning in the hall when you arrive and an equally warm welcome from the owners. Set in rolling countryside and blissfully peaceful.

Review 13:I enjoyed everything about this hotel. However two highlights would be the bed and bathroom we had in the master suite, (we did not want to leave), and the manager Duncan. He made us feel at home and catered to our every need.

Review 14:The atmosphere is lovely, calm and welcoming. It feels as if you have walked into the home of your dreams. Everything has been done with care and style. The staff are friendly and informative about the house and its history. I felt like a real guest.

Review 15:A stunning location, and an amazing house which has been beautifully restored. My stay at Balmule House was great. The owners are completely focused on guest service and comfort, an absolute pleasure - if only all nights away for work were as comfortable as this - Thank you!

Review 16:Master Ensuite is bigger than most hotel rooms! Double shower is wonderful! beware the sharks!! Bedroom is a delight and the whole place is decorated in style. All the staff make you feel welcome and are very helpful.

Review 17:Poorly signposted have to drive to find restaurant.

Review 18:Peace, quiet, quality of furnishings, fittings and décor. Well appointed rooms, fantastic venue. Wonderfully clean.

Review 19:The plumbing is a bit noisy but nothing more than you would expect in a house this age.

Review 20:We loved the space and grandeur of the restored bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. Beds were wonderfully comfortable and in the morning we were served a hearty cooked breakfast. Friendly service and the location is spectacular.

Review 21:We found this place online late at night. It was difficult finding the place in the dark and the GPS was not accurate but the owner gave us online directions by phone. The place itself is beautiful with a huge English garden. Very special rooms all in a both classic but modern style, which do not contradict one another. The staff make you feel welcome as if you are visiting old friends or relatives.

Review 22:No bar/dining facilities except for breakfast.

Review 23:We loved the position of the Hotel, the drive up to the Hotel, the grounds all very scenic. The inside of the Hotel is beautiful and our room was also beautiful, clean and spacious. Breakfast was lovely.

Review 68:Only a small issue the shower wasn't very warm

Review 69:Very grand looking place the bathroom was just as big as the bedroom I booked it as a surprise for my partner and she was impressed would definitely go back the scenery was beautiful

Review 70:For the cost, I really thought the breakfast would be a la carte, with a good choice. Whilst the products were good and fresh, there wasn't much choice of hot food, just bacon, eggs, sausage and black pudding.

Review 71:The house was really beautiful. I felt extremely relaxed there, and totally chilled out, as really there is nothing to do but relax. Room and bath was fab.

Review 79:Lounge beautiful and very comfortable. Staff excellent and most helpful. Lovely bedroom and ensuite.

Review 80:could find no fault,

Review 81:Franc the owner was as nice as could be and provided a healthy break fast, i have been in the hotel and catering business for over 30 years and can honestly say that its one of the nicest hotels I have been in, Franc has put in a lot of hard work, time and effort into making Balmule House a fantastic and most comfortable hotels you will find, I can honestly say that myself and my good lady will be booking another stay in the near future, well done Franc, thanks for a lovely stay , Keith and May Cameron,

Review 82:No evening dinning, but a minor/irrelevant point as we normally dine out in Edinburgh/Dunfermline.

Review 83:A real surprise, great remote hotel. Quiet, comfortable with great staff.

Review 84:an elegant house, exquisitely furnished with a tasteful blend of old and new, very attentive staff - helpful, knowledgdeable, accessible, tranquility on the generous grounds, delicious breakfast made to order, for us a good combination to explore Edinburgh and retreat to the countryside in the evening - just a 30 minute ride by car or train

Review 85:Two big flights of stairs up to room. Didn't know there was a kitchen (my fault probably), isolated from shops etc, no address so a bit hard to find, big step out of bath with no wall bar to hold, very noisy fan in bathroom.

Review 86:Nice room, nice lounge, small kitchen to prepare food. Nice staff. Quiet. Lovely ambiance. No problem with parking spaces.

Review 87:It is a bit hard to find, the sign at the gate is small and grey on a grey stone post - that is the only critics. The location requires a car, this must be definitely considered.

Review 88:An absolutely lovely place, peaceful and cosy. There is nothing more to expect from a B&B. It's spotlessly clean and extremely well run. Breakfast of your choice, owner is preparing it himself.

Review 89:The only thing we didn't like was the fact that we were only there for one day.

Review 90:This 14th century house was a trip in history. Beautifully restored. The grounds were majestic. The owner Franc couldn't be more cordial.
