Reviews for The Old Masonic Lodge

Review 1:We wanted to book a cheap getaway to bath but found all the hotels there were too expensive so we looked outside of bath and we're so pleased we did. Our stay was comfortable and the staff were lovely. The breakfast was more than we could have asked for or expected and we were made to feel very welcome. Although it is slightly out of the way - with little going on in Shepton mallet the hotel is very close to shops and a couple of places to eat and it was perfect for us to travel to Bristol, cheddar and bath as it's an easy drive, no more than 45 minutes to each place.

Review 2:The shared toilet backing onto the room we stayed in, was noisy . If i was beeing picky there was a musky smell when we went in maybe it is damp.Need a warm welcoming room on arrival.Sorry around the house outside was a mess.

Review 3:We were made very welcome ,The idea of having a kitchen where you could make a cuppa or a meal if and when you wanted.Excellent idea The breakfast sellection was very good. The host were very hospitalable and friendly. The standed of cleanliness was very good.

Review 4:The bathroom next to our room as you can hear the water hitting the tray, light switch everything so disturbed our sleep and felt like there were in the room with us.

Review 5:Jean was very welcoming, good communication, nicely decorated and quaint location.

Review 6:The owners are incredibly friendly and made us feel very welcome! Everything was really clean and we felt very comfortable and cosy! Good value for money :)

Review 7:There was a cooker in the kitchen so we could have bought things for cooking our own breakfast. This wasn't mentioned although there was a range of cold breakfast.

Review 8:Immaculately clean and good size family room.

Review 9:Some noise from shared bathrooms during the night due to room being adjacent.may not be the case in all rooms .wouldn't put me off staying again.

Review 10:Relaxed atmosphere, hospitality, guest kitchen for tea and snacks and help yourself breakfast.

Review 11:I can't fault the hotel at all. The bed, the room and the cleanliness of the hotel was fantastic and you would have difficulty in finding somewhere more relaxing. I was a bit worried at first by the detail of a separate shower room however as the hotel is not huge, its was shared by both myself and my wife, it was immaculate and again couldn't fault it. Whilst breakfast was not like going to the Travelodge and having it cooked for you, we had the benefit of a whole kitchen with a huge variety of teas and coffees, along with cereal, croissants, toast, jams and everything else you might want. I cannot complement the hotel and the manageress enough. She even had a map of the local area highlighting points of interests and the local restaurants if we wanted to eat out. We will definitely be returning again as its easy access to Longleat, Stonehenge, bath and Bristol.

Review 12:A shared washroom is not something we are used to but having two separate private rooms right close was very doable.

Review 13:We were warmly greeted and enjoyed our stay very much. The room was very charming, quiet and clean, affording us a great nights sleep. Definitely worth the drive to this gem.

Review 14:The floor in the hallway is wooden so can hear guests who arrive back late. The bed in my room was very sweeky.

Review 15:The self service breakfast in the kitchen. The cleanliness of the room and bathrooms and the welcome on arrival.

Review 16:A friendly welcome, absolutely nothing was too much trouble for the host. The room and facilities were immaculate. Rarely are my expectations exceeded but this little gem hits all the right buttons.

Review 17:The bed was a little squeaky, but thats nothing! It was a very pleasant place!

Review 18:I liked the house and it was a short walk away from local shops, a big tesco etc Its in a lovely location, run by nice, friendly people and was very clean! We got snacks, breakfast items, tea/coffee etc included in the shared kitchen. GREAT VALUE!

Review 19:Difficult to find, but it could of been me and would of liked own bathroom but it was still lovely and clean.

Review 20:Loved how friendly the owner was and extremely helpful :) loved the fact there was a kitchen to use as travelling with a baby it was much needed.

Review 21:Lovely friendly hosts. The building has a peaceful atmosphere and I slept really well, which is rare when I am away from home. I also liked the self serve breakfast.

Review 22:Loved the unique set up with the guests sharing their own kitchen which was fully stock with bread, croissants, fruit, yoghurts, cereals, every type of hot drink you can imagine, felt like a proper home from home as you could use this anytime you wished and with a 2 year old requesting toast late on a night it was a godsend. Would highly recommend and will definitely be stopping here again.

Review 23:Unsure at first about location but its absolutely fine. Inconsiderate party goers returning at 3 am. Take ear plugs if a light sleeper.

Review 24:Lovely place to stay, warm and welcoming, happy to share facilities, enjoyed getting my breakfast tray together, felt safe and secure.

Review 25:Friendliness of owner and well set up for self-service breakfast with good range of bread, yogurt, etc. Tea available at all times - much appreciated.

Review 26:I liked the two bathrooms available. The kitchen was also great for us to make our own breakfasts and prepare some food although the re are plenty of pubs around that are great to eat at.

Review 27:challenging to find and a bit difficult to park, but nothing that distracted from the positive experience

Review 28:lovely house, helpful and very friendly proprietors, informal atmosphere

Review 29:The family who own the B&B they are fabolous people! We had chats and cider together! The building is ancient and comfy, the breakast is help yourself but there is everything! and you can use the kitchen too for other meals. Plus, the little garden with table outside is a wonderful place to chill out.

Review 30:Difficult to locate. But once you find it, it is worth it.

Review 31:Everything about it was excellent from the owner, the history of the building, and the comfort of the (very extensive) Continental breakfast. Very quiet and comfortable.

Review 32:Couldn't of been greeted in a better way...felt like you were home from home ...made to feel so welcome and was just like being in your own home...facilities so modern and homely ....location was ideal for us as an overnight stay on our travels down south....great find and would highly recommend

Review 33:A very good selection for breakfast, suits all tastes and diets/allergies. The Lodge is in a very quiet and attractive part of Shepton Mallet and central for all routes and amenities. A super stay.

Review 34:The fact that all rooms had TVs can mean asking the people in the room next to you to adjust he's volume, which he did.

Review 35:Very helpful and a well equipped kitchen where you could prepare a small meal it was close to the shops and seemed well located

Review 36:Breakfast in the bedroom was a bit of a compromise and perhaps the tiny washbasins in the bathrooms due to bathroom size.Otherwise everything was lovely and I would return.

Review 37:The cosy bedroom. The comfy bed. The warm radiator. Close to amenities. The friendly hosts. The well stocked kitchen. The clean bathrooms. The TV in the bedroom.

Review 38:Tucked away, this amazing B & B was definiately worth the trip Staff are friendly Facilities impeccable Cosy feel, without being small Will definiately stay again

Review 39:We have spent only one night here but we wished to have spent a couple more. The landlady is very friendly making you feel comfortable as soon as you walk in. Room was very cosy, clean and warm. Bathrooms are shared but they are extremely clean and hygienic. I will definitely call again here!

Review 40:We received a warm welcome on arrival along with a complimentary glass of cider which always goes down well. We stayed in the family room (1 double and 1 single) which was very spacious. Unlike lots of other places I have stayed there were plentiful plug sockets to charge your phone etc. The shared bathrooms were immaculate. The shared kitchen facilities were well stocked with fruit, yogurt, cereals and bread etc. All together a very pleasant and comfortable stay.

Review 41:Only slight concern was the noisy radiator in our room, but given that it was off because we only booked an hour before arriving, I am guessing it was warming up so can't be blamed on the owners!

Review 42:Everything was very comfortable, relaxing and peaceful

Review 43:Unfortunately on our stay, somebody checked in at 10.30pm and wasn't the quietest on the wooden floors!

Review 44:Very friendly, helpful. The room was clean and the sheets smelt lovely. Lots to choose from for breakfast. Would definately recommend.

Review 45:We love the welcome with Cider and a nice chat with hostess about the area. My little 15 months were with us, we arrived a bit late and they were ready for us. The rooms were nice and comfortable, specially the beds. Breakfast is self served and you can use the kitchen if you are hungry later giving the option to use it.

Review 46:Not really a dislike - but just to be aware of the shared bathroom & kitchen arrangements

Review 47:Warm and friendly welcome. Clean and comfortable rooms and facilities. Good price and therefore value for money.

Review 48:Loaction, hidden away Exterior is not maintained well Front entrance smells of smoke

Review 49:AMAZING Staff, really welcoming Clean rooms Love the communal kitchen for breakfast 'help your self idea' Wifi was good Spacious area Well maintained and decorated interior

Review 50:Separate bathrooms that were abit on the small side .

Review 51:The rooms were relaxing and well decorated . The use of your own well stocked kitchen was ideal and the hosts were very accepting of children and the fact we up and about early !

Review 52:En suite would have been better however the use of 2 very clean shower rooms without any queuing when all rooms seemed occupied was great

Review 53:Jean was great, very friendly and hospitable. Loved we had our own kitchen

Review 54:Shepton Mallet suffers from unimaginative town planning.

Review 55:A lovely historic building and spotlessly clean with a kitchen full of goodies for free. Friendly interesting owners with exciting plans to progress the facilities.

Review 56:We received a very warm reception at the B and B. The room and all the facilities were spotless. Breakfast was 'help yourself' from the kitchen and exceeded my expectation; fresh fruit, pastries, cereal, yoghurt etc. I would love to return in a years time to see the progress made with the renovation project at the property.

Review 57:THIS IS NOT A COMPLAINT but i think it may be nice if the rooms had a rug or two in them.Especially as winter is closing in.Our room was simply floorboards and, whilst it really did'nt bother us,it may bother others.Just a thought?

Review 58:Clean and very comfortable.Owners were wonderful and could'nt have been more helpful. We liked the idea of the breakfast being on a 'help-yourself' basis from the very well stocked kitchen. There was not a cooked breakfast option but that was not a problem as the continental was superb. We would certainly stay again.

Review 59:The hosts were just a delight to chat with, knowledgeable about the area. They are also putting in a lot of work to their place right now, so the good facilities are going to be even better by the time you get there. Really great value for the room.

Review 60:It felt like staying with friends. Mr and Mrs Kent were very helpful and informative. They made our stay a treat. The room had a TV and was nice a cosy. We could enjoy hot/cold drinks, biscuits and other goodies provided in the kitchen. this was very comforting after a long day out. The kitchen was open so we could use it when needed. If hungry there were pubs near by serving hot meals and a nice friendly atmosphere. The Masonic Lodge is about 40 mins drive from one of the most beautiful estates, Stourhead I have ever seen. Temples, grootos, lakes, swans, big stately house with a history etc. we enjoyed a day in the grounds. The lodge is also a close drive to bath for another day out. We also enjoyed the weekly market at a nearby village upon our departure from the Lodge. As a family who enjoys taking photographs you can image that there was a lot to fill our memory cards. I'd like to thank the Kents for a really lovely stay.

Review 61:Very pleasant and friendly atmosphere. I was made most welcome by the owners. I loved the private kitchen facilities which made an evening snack or breakfast very relaxed and easy.

Review 62:Can't wait to go back !!! Jean and jez are lush !! Extremely friendly and relaxed .... Just loved everything about it !! We'll be back v soon !!

Review 63:The fact that I had to leave and go home!

Review 64:The character and history of the property, the most amazing owners who were relaxed and kind and helpful in everything, nothing was too much trouble. particularly liked too the set up of a self-catering kitchen so you could please yourself and be flexible with snacks and breakfast time. Really I was in awe of the place and made good friends with other travellers too...I felt like I had found a little piece of heaven here.

Review 65:Very kind, friendly and helpful Hosts. The house is mystic place with modern renewed inside. Mellow scent and nice details everywhere. The town is in the center of many interesting tourist places around. We surely will come back.

Review 66:Difficult to find even using sat nav, almost gave up looking and after staying almost wish I had, only pleased that it was only one night. Reminded me of my days as a student living in noisy halls of residence, no carpet on floors so no sound insulation, loud footsteps and echoing conversations, snoring through thin walls. Don’t expect shared bathrooms these days, at least a sink in room would have helped. No comparison with other establishments that I have used for the same price.

Review 67:The owners were absolutely fantastic and made us extremely welcome and comfortable. Being able to help yourself to a full kitchen and breakfast. Relaxed atmosphere

Review 68:From the name, we were expecting a grand old building with traces of its Masonic history. Difficult to locate (poor street signage). Bathrooms tiny - barely room to turn around.

Review 69:Excellent kitchen and good variety of breakfast ingredients. Surprisingly good wi-fi reception.

Review 70:Breakfast was lacking (everything out of a box) considering the price. There is no breakfast room so you have to eat your breakfast in the rooms.

Review 71:Owner was friendly and welcoming. Rooms were clean. We had a quiet and relaxed night. The house has an interesting history.

Review 72:The amazing hosts give you personal attention in this quiet, clean and well maintained lodge. The free teas and coffees and fruits and smiles and homely environment will tell you the story. I will surely get back and I recommend with no reservation.

Review 73:Nowhere currently for you to sit other than your room. Did not like sharing toilets.

Review 74:Very interesting building. Spotlessly clean with a large and comfy room. Plenty to eat and drink in the kitchen

Review 75:Everything was completly fine!

Review 76:It was a very warm and friendly stay there. We have been welcomed by the owners and had a interesting evening talking with them :) We felt very welcome and would go back there any time. Clean, friendly and WIFI worked ;)

Review 77:We couldn't stay longer!! My only very very small disapointment (not even that) but being a larger person I found the wash basins very small and difficult to have a shave in, however I know they have plans for on suite this winter, so this would not stop us going back.

Review 78:Jez and Jean the proprieters are the friendliest most helpful, accomodating, laid back but only when the work is done. The premises are very historical and Jez and Jean will gladly tell you all about it, they also have a very good knowledge of the area. Unfortunately our car broke down when we arrived but the next day Jez and Jean drove us to Glastonbury and picked us up in the evening. There was a good supply of croisants, fruit, yoghurts, tea and coffee, there were plenty of cerials to choose from and it was available all day. The rooms were spacious very clean with a TV. We came away very happy knowing we will definately go back again because we have made true friends in Jez and Jean.

Review 79:Finding it wasn't that easy - the road it is on is easy to miss. Soundproofing between rooms wasn't great - I wouldn't want to use it for my honeymoon. (But I have met this in much more expensive institutions)

Review 80:Clean, very friendly, good value, in a lovely village. Purpose built rooms in an interesting old building in the centre of an old village. It has its idiosyncrasies, - but it makes them all clear on the web, so if you are surprised, you have only yourself to blame. If I'm in Shepton Mallet again, I'll certainly stay here again.

Review 81:Did not realise it was self service btrakfast not very clear from marketing. One of shower rooms bery small. Also is built up srea opposite hoising estate

Review 82:Clean and hosts very welcoming.

Review 83:The Lodge is tucked away down a slightly twisty road, and the approach was a tiny bit intimidating for someone used to driving on the other side of the road while sitting in the other side of the car :) -- but this is not a big issue, merely a note.

Review 84:The hosts are very pleasant; we had a lovely garden chat over coffee in the morning. Building is historic and architecturally interesting, and they are repairing/restoring/renovating the entire place. Will have full en suite facilities by the time I return, and I will return!

Review 85:Walls were much too thin. I was woken at 6am by what sounded like someone dragging furniture about. The noise didn't stop so I got up and left. No basin in room, shared shower was very small although the one I didn't use was larger.

Review 86:The owners were very friendly and helpful. Shared kitched was useful and a D.I.Y breakfast was supplied although not advertised or charged for.

Review 87:It way a quiet location and had the luxury and freedom to make my own breakfast with everything laid on. I hope to go back soon and enjoy their hospitality again.

Review 88:We had the best time with the hosts, they love the area and know the best places to visit. We only stayed a short time but we could not have been happier with the hosts who offered all they had. We plan to come back here when we next can. thank you.

Review 89:We had a wonderfull stay. The owners went above and beyond to help us feel welcome and make our stay comfortable. I would highly recommend staying here.

Review 90:Lovely friendly people in beautiful surroundings. What more could you ask for!

Review 91:Fabulous! The whole place is immaculate. You can help yourself to drinks and snacks in the kitchen and the owners were smashing people.

Review 92:Would like to stay there again.

Review 93:Location for Longleat and Bath. Extremely clean and comfortable, single rooms available warm welcome.

Review 94:Nice place to stay

Review 95:A warm welcome and lovely place.

Review 96:Jez and Jean are a very friendly and helpful couple.

Review 97:Have to say to be honest the outside of the property could do with a lick of paint

Review 98:Lovely friendly b and b. Good sight seeing location and facilities to make your own breakfast.

Review 99:Very friendly, very comfortable, clean and priced competitively.

Review 100:Great and comfortable room, excellent choice of food for breakfast and the staff is absolutely welcoming and ready to help.

Review 103:Comfortable room, friendly staff. Help yourself breakfast and drinks.

Review 104:Awesome staff. The lodge is beautiful, clean and cozy. Very Nice.
