Reviews for Thomas James Hotel

Review 1:Decor shabby, bathroom floor really uneven/broken. Noisey despite being 3 floors up, could hear traffic all night. No real attempt to offer breakfast.

Review 2:Location was good, on the edge of town easy to get going in the morning. Lots of local shops and places to eat. Cheap deal on the room, 4 poster bed, warm and comfortable.

Review 3:Very cold at night, the room had one big window above the bed with almost no thermal insulation apart from a heavy curtain.

Review 4:Really close to the train station

Review 5:This was our second stay at the Hotel and we think its great value for money, fortunately we have never been put in a bad room! The room was clean and had clean towels and the bedding was clean, had a good shower and the room was a good size.

Review 6:no help from staff whatever expected to sign in at. Bar counter . I have never seen such filth in any hotel . The moment you enter the smell indicates the quality . So I although paid for left immediately and found another hotel .

Review 7:Rooms need work doing on them especially the bathrooms. Shower areas mainly. Bed linen desperately needs a complete overhaul, New pillows, Bed Duvet's & covers, sheets & most importantly Mattress & Pillow protectors. You also need to have new kettles & mugs as well as the cups. These were our only complaints during our stay & not having any hot water for one day.

Review 8:I've stayed at T.J's on numerous occasions. The location of the hotel is brilliant & is great value for money. The staff have always been very friendly & helpful. I will always stay over providing there's a room available at the time. Thank you to everyone for making our stay over the New Year a good one. All the best to you all for 2016

Review 9:Where do I start? The bathroom was damp and had a nail sticking out of the floor. The curtains were hanging off the curtain rail. There was no coffee or tea in the room, no kettle and not even a glass. There was no hot water and no heating.

Review 10:Nothing.

Review 11:Disliked everything from overall external entrance, locked, unattended reception at top of narrow stairs. Rooms were like something out of the 1960s and had not been decorated since then. This is just a basic run down pub more akin to back packer cheap hostel. We could not stay but if we had I dread the thoughts of the likely noise from the bar underneath. The appearance and info provided to Booking .com web site is totally misleading. Any self respecting booking agent would not offer this accomodation to clients. Would suggest it be taken down. The 2.5 rating attached to this review is also misleading. 0.0 more appropiate.

Review 12:Nothing to like about this place. we moved on and booked in elsewhere.

Review 13:This place is the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. The pictures presented before staying at TJ's were nothing like the actual room. Wallpaper was hanging off the wall some even ripped out. The carpet what is suppose to bed red had black stains everywhere. The whole bathroom was covered in mould. The bedroom lights were covered in dust completely. The bed was clean surprisly but was so uncomfortable felt like there were springs in my back and pillows were ever so flat ! This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in not to mention the smell of old cigraettes stank out the room you cant even open the window due to pigeon faeces being scattered all over them. Paying £80 for the night to have somewhere to come back to sleep for New Years Eve is the worst mistake. The one member of staff I actually met she was on her phone we waited for 10 minutes until she finished texting. Don't stay in this place save your money for somewhere better in my opinion it should be shut down. Only able to add three photos of the terrible time I had at this hotel.

Review 14:It was near to the local train station that I was able to get back to London within 5 minutes of walking to the train station.

Review 15:The room was extremely dirty, the wall paper was falling off as the walls were crumbling, there was no hot water there were discusting marks all over the walls but mainly near the bed and the bin, and the used condom in the entrance lobby topped it off and we found alternative accomadation.

Review 16:I did not like anything about this hotel,

Review 17:My only negative was that the carpets looked a bit grubby.

Review 18:After looking at the reviews of this Hotel 'after' I had booked, I was a bit concerned. However, I don't know what all the fuss was about. The towels & bed sheets were clean & the shower was good.

Review 19:Reception on first floor, not attended, had to wait for member of bar staff. No welcome smile or greeting.

Review 20:Room was clean and well decorated. Shower room was good. Located near to concert venue so we only had a short walk, no taxi fares. Public car park was free on a Sunday.Request for only a few stairs had been noted.

Review 21:It could be made clearer what you need to do to check in. It is above a bar so often the staff are working there but you can't tell until you are at the reception desk upstairs.

Review 22:Very convenient for the centre of the town, and booked on the day.

Review 23:Train keeps you awake, so did the rude noisy couple in the next room until 5am, so did the fighting outside the below bar. Room is dirty and falling apart, cold and the worst hotel I think I've ever stayed in to be honest and I stay in a lot

Review 24:Lovely area and helpful staff.

Review 25:The decor has seen better days The door was hanging off its rail in the shower. Unfortunately it's close proximity to pubs/clubs and eateries ment the noise level was unbelievable. So despite the comfy bed I did not get a lot of ?

Review 26:The bed was comfortable, and there was plenty of space in the room. Also the water was hot.

Review 27:The photo of the room with 4 poster bed on booking.com looked luxurious. In reality the room was very tired looking. The duvet was tatty, covered by a duvet cover that was too small to fasten. The toilet didn't have a flush handle/button. The rooms are situated above a bar/grill.

Review 28:No car park but this is mitigated by surface CPs not too far away. It shabby and tired but reasonable value for monet

Review 29:Good location and good price. I have read some of the other reviews and I think they miss the point that this is an old style 'Commercial' hotel in a listed building. If you want USA style go to a Holiday Inn/Marriot and pay double the price

Review 30:The room was a but tired generally and just lacking in most areas. e.g no remote for t.v, bathroom had black mold, loose shower cubicle, light very dim.

Review 31:Was central location. Was not over priced. Breakfast was great and good value. Friendly barman serving.

Review 32:My room was up in the attic so a lot of stairs the receptionist had to help me with my case ' the room was nice ' bathroom was none too clean

Review 33:Staff were very helpful 'the bar grill served a great breakfast.

Review 34:Room extremely bare and sparse, rather unwelcoming, no parking, breakfast started after we had to leave, calling it ahotel seems to slightly overstate it, more of a well-located dormitory

Review 35:Good central location,

Review 36:Great overall experience - room and bathroom a bit small, and up three steep flights of stairs - not really a major except with luggage. Had to wait for bar staff to become available for check in.

Review 37:Fantastic location and surrounding area. Room had all required amenities and facilities.

Review 38:Not saying I didn't like it ,but the rooms could do with a little TLC if it were my hotel .

Review 39:Location was good, good bar downstairs and no noise heard from our room .

Review 40:Room was terrible not at all like your photos stated, feel really angry that you advertise this as it's a lie and I feel I want a full refund

Review 41:Nothing at all, total waste of our hard earned money

Review 42:4 flights of stairs to get to the room, shower door hanging off, bathroom floor uneven and loose floor boards, noises from the road and revellers from the bar down stairs.

Review 43:Bed was comfy, tea and coffe facilities

Review 44:Little bit of a hassle getting the WiFi password (would be a lot easier if it was written in the welcome book thing), Ceiling had quite a few cobwebs hanging from it (but because the ceiling was so high I can see why it would be difficult to dust!)

Review 45:Ensuite bathroom seemed quite new and was nice, Big TV in room (although I didn't use it), Excellent Location for travellers (Near the station) and good value (only £40 per night).

Review 46:Potential noise from adjacent rooms, walls obviously thin

Review 47:Good location, basic but all needs met, value for money and lively pub downstairs for a good evening out

Review 48:shower broken tv didn't work quite a lot of noise from street and people leaving the bar

Review 49:friendly staff good breakfast at reasonable price good working space with large desk and good wifi

Review 50:It was a bit noisey (outside noise from late night revellers) and the room was very small. But for the money it was good value.

Review 51:The check in was easy. Also the check out was easy, just dropping the key in a box. I felt safe even though the area is not the best I liked the fact there was a separate entrance so you didn't have to walk thro the bar area. I felt it was good value, you get what you pay for.

Review 52:The bed was very lumpy and uncomfortable and the blanket was wafer thin. The shower doors were not attached to the rails so came off when you tried to close the doors. The toilet seat wasn't attached to the toilet. The ventilation system in the bathroom must have been attached to the kitchen as the bathroom stank of fried foods in the morning. The walls in the bedroom had scribbles all over them.

Review 53:The biscuits that came with the tea.

Review 54:This has to be the worst place I’ve ever stayed in. Room very uncomfortable and dangerous – bear wires to kettle and collapsed shower tray. The bed had seen better days and should be replaced. Room very small and in need of decorating, in fact the whole place is in need of decorating and certainly new carpets. We were unable to open the window in the room to have any fresh air. Very poor service from staff and extremely noisy guest’s in the next room. I’m not sure how this place can be called a hotel, and I would recommend anyone wanting to stay in Leamington Spa, to avoid booking this disgraceful place

Review 55:Absolutely nothing, apart from leaving the building and heading home

Review 56:horrible room not as shown in picture, light not working in bathroom wires exposed, shower water did not drain away but flooded bathroom, dirty stained carpet, window pains broken and missing, could not get reception tried over 10 times it was dirty and horrible, would not put a dog in the room.

Review 57:The details on the booking.com page stated that there was a hairdryer, but this was not in the room, and I had to go downstairs to the staff on the bar, as the reception wasn't open to ask if they had a hairdryer - they didn't. Almost every part of the bathroom was broken - the flooring was wobbly and had loose floorboards underneath, the flush on the toilet wasn't present, and you had to reach into the cistern to push the flush, the tab in the sink was marked the wrong way round, and the shower was set on two pieces of ply wood and completely exposed.

Review 58:The decor in the room was nice, and the room was a good size

Review 59:En-suite bathroom was a bit basic (but to be expected at the price I suppose). The breakfast downstairs in TJ's was woeful though. Supposed Eggs Benedict served on toast instead of a muffin (I can live with that) but the eggs were cooked hard and it was drowning in so much Hollandaise sauce the dish was simply inedible. Disgusting!

Review 60:Good location & cheap.

Review 61:The light over the bathroom mirror did not work and the advertised hairdryer was not present. Returning to my room the second evening itappeared that person servicing it had been interrupted. The bed had notbeen touched, there were new milk containers and new biscuits, but thecup and saucer had not been cleaned or replaced and the bath towel hadbeen taken away but had not been replaced.

Review 62:The bathroom floor doesnot look clean, ceiling got a big black patch evidence of water leaking . Shower cubicle was dirty , shower hose lots of scum. Pillows are flat and not comfortable. Most damaging is the noise from pub below the hotel, midnight quarrel and shouting , don't book it if you have other choice

Review 63:Nothing, wanted to cancel upon arrival but was told they will still charge one night so no choice wanted to stay one night but leave at 7pm on 2nd night.

Review 64:This was my worst hotel experience ever. Incompetent staff, shower doors that wouldn't close/open, dirty iron that ruined one of my shirts, dated interior, an electric heater that didn't work and many others. Room cleaning is a joke, it felt like someone was coming every day just to make the bed so as to pretend there was some actual cleaning involved. To make it all even worse, my room was separated from the next room just with a locked door - needless to say, I could hear every single thing my neighbour did and probably vice versa - not a very comfortable experience. Oh and reception is never open, you always need to go downstairs to the bar to get someone. Some more incidents described below:Day 1 (check in). Where's the entrance? The one that says "Thomas James hotel" is closed. Oh, ok, you need to enter via the bar next door - someone could have told me that. The reception desk person says they don't accept AMEX. Why Booking.com says they did? He had no idea. In the end, he called someone and it turned out I can pay for my stay with AMEX at the bar downstairs.Day 5 (check out): I wanted to have the invoice details changed. Standard stuff, never an issue but well - you're at the Thomas James. So, you guess right, it wasn't possible for the reception desk lady to do it, she had to wait for the manager. She promised to send me the invoice asap. And you guess right - it wasn't asap.Day 9: I called in after 4 days since I left to check what's happening with the invoice. The guy who answered obviously had no idea about this one so had to explain it again and leave my contact details again etc. etc. Promised to chase it for me.Day 10. Still nothing. One call in the morning, another one in the afternoon. I managed to reach the very lady who promised to issue the invoice on day 5. She said the manager should send it to me on that day.Day 11. Still nothing.

Review 65:Good location.

Review 66:Unfortunately Reception always closed. I couldn't get Iron what in a business trip is quite important. In the bathroom few stuff broken and it wouldn't be a to much work to fix them.

Review 67:Room was nice clean and comfortable

Review 68:I didn't like the whiff of xenophobia and rotten eggs, the broken phone and the collapsing shower door, the window that wouldn't open in a sweltering room and the bed that was about as comfortable as kipping on a chopping board.

Review 69:The free biscuits.

Review 70:Although breakfast was supposed to be available at 8, on neither morning did this happen, despite my complaining to reception after the first night

Review 71:Convenience

Review 72:The guests in the next room kept everyone awake with their arguing till 6am in the morning after being told 3 times by management to be quiet!!!!!

Review 73:The room was lovley and very clean and everything was amazing!!!

Review 74:kept waiting to check in while receptionist on the phone for a while, no kettle/tea/coffee/cups/glasses

Review 75:From reading reviews I was really worried! But it was fine, small but tidy room. Would stay again, good for the money

Review 76:Very poor state - shower broken, bits missing from toilet flush, mould on celings, bare wires on kettle General all round poor condition

Review 77:Lady I dealt with was very friendly

Review 78:Dirty carpets, Horrible eggy smell from the bathroom Hard bed 1 pillow no extra Very noisey from bar downstairs Broken lights Draw had no front on so sharp nails sticking out

Review 79:The best part was leaving the hotel

Review 80:The fact that you had to go up 21steep stairs to the first floor for any bedrooms considering I mentioned I am disabled and find any stairs a painfull & difficult job they should explain about this when someone is making a booking. Also breakfast was not included. I was disgusted when I had to go through the PJ bar to book in, it was a busy work mans bar, not what I expected! To complete my revue the curtain was falling down so you could not close it, also the bed was pushed up to that window with nohope of pulling it away, would have done for children but not two very old pensioners.

Review 81:I have slept on softer floors than the matresses we had. Check in was closed when we arrived (8.30pm, so not surprising) so we had to call the staff member from bar duties. The bedside lights were not working, but I didn't feel like braving the bar again, so I didn't report it. The bathroom was reasonable - great shower once I figured out how to work it, but the shocker was the huge bit of black mould on the ceiling (very high up).

Review 82:Central location, very friendly check in staff member

Review 83:I gather breakfast was very expensive. So I went to the pub down the road instead.

Review 84:Excellent location - close to train station and venue. Separate entrance so don't have to go through pub. Helpful staff. Quiet for sleeping (I was at very top of building). Fan in the bedroom, which was nice.

Review 85:shower head holder broken taped up head went spinning around hot water over me and floor. adjoining room (locked door between rooms) could hear conversation, banging cupboards, showering, toilet, tv to early hours of the morning. night before music going on until 2am from bar below. could not wait to get out of there worse 2 nights ever.

Review 86:local to rail station

Review 87:No Parking, no staff on reception at all, room not ready so given temp room, this room was not the cleanest, bedding was fine, but carpets were rotten, mould etc in the shower and around ceiling, but moved us the next day, next room was excellent, very clean, well decorated. (do not take a room on the 1st floor), to noisy above the bar, did not quieten down until 2am, reception not manned, manager only available certain times,

Review 88:Very centrally located.

Review 89:Noisy, should fix the windows. Don't care about the noise from the bar but better insulation from the windows should get rid of the sound of traffic from the outside.

Review 90:Close to the railway station and the city centre. Good beds.

Review 91:The rooms are small. There were marks on the wall. The shower curtain was broken on arrival. The bed is hard. As its right next to the main road, it's noisy. Breakfast wasn't included, but decided to stay for breakfast; disappointed that they no longer did what I wanted (even though it's on the menu)

Review 92:The location is great...a 5 minute walk & you're in the town centre. If you're not fussy & just want a cheap bed for the night, it will do.

Review 93:Now in my eightieth year, had I known that I would be required to climb more than 50 stairs to reach my room, I would have booked elsewhere.

Review 94:Convenient location for where I needed to be. Comfortable room

Review 95:noisy location right by the trains and high street. people shouting in the street. The shower door fell off when I tried to close it. The bed was too hard

Review 96:staff were very nice

Review 97:There was no kettle in the room - just a mug and the base. The bar tender eventually lent me a kettle from the bar but was very reluctant to do so. The shower door was hanging by a thread, the TV didn't work until the bar tender came and moved cables, a chair served for a bedside table, the walls were paper thin and I could hear the man next door snoring and coughing. Altogether an very unpleasant experience.

Review 98:There was nothing to recommend this place.

Review 99:the cleanliness and the price vs quality of the conditions (the window for example wasn't closing very well and I could hear and feel the wind blowing)

Review 100:the staff was nice and the location was great

Review 101:Overall appearance in the bedrooms was pretty bad. Damp in a lot of places. Room's were far too warm. Beds weren't comfortable. Rooms were poorly lit.

Review 102:Location was pretty good, just slightly off from the main high street, but very close to the train station. Also, staff were friendly!

Review 103:Lack of parking is a definite problem. We booked a four poster room as in the picture on the website it looked wonderful in reality it was just a bare 4 poster, no curtains or embellishments and we were disappointed as it was more expensive than the other rooms. Couldn't get any hot water in the shower or basin, had to have a cold shower. We told the reception girl on the day we got there she said she would sort it but didn't, there was no hot water the following day either. So disappointed with the whole room and price.

Review 104:Location excellent, downstairs bar good

Review 105:Dirty, mould on ceilings and skirting boards, shower and toilet broken and dirty, window frames rotten to dangerous to open. Fire panel showing fault has been for some time according to staff.

Review 106:Nothing

Review 107:Bedside lites didn.t work.Bathroom needed some work doing. Lots of mould and toilet flush broken. Very noisy on the friday night due to a live band below us

Review 108:Friendly staff. Leamington is a beautiful place.

Review 109:Could feel springs through mattress. No kettle to make a drink. Access was through a noisy, scruffy pub. Breakfast was in the same pub - not somewhere I would feel comfortable sitting alone.

Review 110:Location was excellent

Review 111:Dirty, uncomfortable room. Room directly above noisy beer garden /smoking area. Staff uncooperative. Bed should have been thrown outyears ago!!

Review 112:Wi-fi

Review 113:staff were obviously more bothered about the bar/restaurant downstairs and this is an add on. you had to go into the bar to find staff, but they were ok and fairly helpful once you found them.

Review 114:for the price it was just fine, comfy, clean, good location

Review 115:A couple of idiots in the bar Sink in my room very small, difficult to wash face after shaving

Review 116:Linked to a pub so easy to get a drink and closeby to food outlets (pizza /curry etc) as arrived too late to get pub grub

Review 117:The rooms are tatty and very small. Decor very very dated in factscruffy. None of the facilities mentioned on booking.com existed, PleaseNote this even the bar manager took a copy of my booking and confirmedthat none of the mentioned facilities existed. Had to ask for a kettle, cups, no hairdryer no tv working, however they did sent someone up torepair it. Loud music blasting out till 2 am, shouting in the streettill 4.30 am and traffic. Please don't book this hotel not at £70only worth £25

Review 118:The toilet seat in the ensuite bathroom was broken as was shower screen. That said though didn't enjoy nearly slipping in loo each time, it was very clean. And we chose not to sleep in the shower ;p

Review 119:The location was just what we wanted and needed as were visiting warwick castle so very local. Girl that booked us in (sorry don't know name) was very helpful and friendly.

Review 120:54 steps to bedroom, bedside light and tv controls not working for 2 nights, parking can be a problem.

Review 121:Helpful staff, particularly morning did his best to sort problems.

Review 122:Parking nearby was cheap and fine but not very secure if you have a nicer car than mine. The flush was broken on our loo. The bar was a bit of a dive.

Review 123:Friendly staff and the powerful shower. The rooms are nicely decorated and we were comfy

Review 124:The wifi had a password couldn't use the shower as the doors wouldn't shut toilet flusher was broken light were not bright window kept opening

Review 125:wifi not working in area i was in, no door on bathroom, room size

Review 126:breakfast incredible for the price, location - proximity to train station and where i was going, staff friendly, shampoo etc.

Review 127:f rst of all the parking lot was disgusting full of drunks and druggies. When i got to the hotel nobody in reception bar staff had to check me in, loads of stairs to a pokey room tv remote control did not work lights by the bed did not work very noisy as it is over a bar Paid fot two nights only stayed one have tried to get in touch with hotel manager has not called me back. Booking .com should look at hotels before recommending them

Review 128:Arrived 5 mins before check-in time (14.00), we were given the key to put our bags in the room, and it had still not been cleaned out from the night before. When we arrived back to the hotel after being out all day. Only one of the single beds had been made up! The other had no sheets etc. The room facilities, i.e coffee, cups, towels etc had only been issued for on person, even though we paid for a twin room. No staff around to help or explain this.

Review 129:Location was quiet central.

Review 130:The hotel was dirty and had a permanent unpleasant smell. The window in our room was propped open with a piece of wood with rusty nails protruding.

Review 131:Quite literally nothing

Review 132:We requested a quiet room but instead we had a room which was over a bar, with the traffic lights of the main road just outside and a railway bridge within yards of the hotel window. New beds are required as every time I moved it squeaked.

Review 133:The location and the friendliness of the staff. Free wii fi.

Review 134:The stained bed mattress, the fact that the bin had not been emptied when I arrived and the room looked like it had not been cleaned since the previous occupant however the bed did look like it had been changed.

Review 135:TV was OK and the staff were friendly

Review 136:Wallpaper ripped from the wall, no doors on the wardrobe, only one set of towels for a double room, previous guests knickers found on the floor! Awful, awful, awful

Review 137:I didn't like anything

Review 138:The reception was always closed, you had to access the hotel through the bar. The stairs are a bit like Everest, you might get a bit of a sweat on. Went for a quiet beer at TJ's, but some guy was telling me he had been looted all night and he was slapping the tables.

Review 139:The location was very good, there was a really nice park nearby too. It's a bit ghetto near the hotel, but doesn't take long to get to the nice area. The shower was really powerful too.

Review 140:Very noisy traffic Loud music from TJ's bar Loud customers outside till middle of the night, 3am and after No mini bar as stated on booking form Not enough electric sockets Extractor fan in bathroom not working

Review 141:Location Breakfast
