Reviews for The Red Lion @Kniveton
Review 1:Breakfast was a little early, a rigid time of 08-30 was a little draconian, 08-30 to maybe 09- 00 to 09-30 would have been more acceptable, (we do understand the fact of staffing as it was over the Christmas period).
Review 2:The food and presentation was very good, we were a bit disappointed that food was not available Boxing day evening, especially because food was not to be had anywhere else in the vicinity..
Review 3:The Red Lion Kniveton is in a nice area and good for a short stay for a weekend. The rooms are small but clean. The pub offers good food and friendly service
Review 4:Would have liked fruit with breakfast and a wider range of non-cooked food on offer eg muesli, yogurt. De-caf filtered coffee would also have been good.
Review 5:Comfortable room with good facilities. Location excellent - close to Ashbourne and Dovedale. Didn't eat in the evening but breakfast was good.
Review 6:This pub is right on a busy main road and therefore noisy. The rooms are above the bar and if as with us, the bar stays open late with loud music there is not much chance of a good nights sleep. The bedroom is very small and the bathroom is minute with a tiny wash basin. There is nowhere to put anything in it so everything ended up on the floor. Not sure why it is advertised as deluxe.
Review 7:The food was reasonable and the staff were nice and helpful.
Review 8:Such a lovley place to stay. It's above the Red Lion Pub. The food is to a very high standard and the rooms are lovley. There are outside stairs to get to the accommodation that my husband struggled with. I missed it on the website. Everything was perfect apart from stairs including location.
Review 9:We had no complaints at all
Review 10:The staff were all very friendly, the rooms were fantastic and the food was the best we'd ever had anywhere we had stayed! We had a fantastic 1st anniversary break thank you.
Review 11:The standard of breakfast was not as good as dinner but still nice - small bathroom needs a shelf to store toiletries (the owner agreed and will be doing so)
Review 12:Opulent room - good wifi throughout - mini cafetierre for coffee and lovely biscuits - good choice of ales - absolutely fantastic homemade food in evening with one of the best pies I have had for many years
Review 13:We had a 2 night stay Saturday & Sunday. The pub has a late license and cranked up the music on the Saturday until 1am which meant we were unable to get to sleep until it was over.
Review 14:Nice room and friendly staff
Review 15:Bathroom basin was rather small with an over-enthusiastic tap which tended to soak me and the floor - but the Room Information had warned me about this!
Review 16:Comfortable room, and a delicious meal in the pub restaurant during the evening.
Review 17:Hardly any available taxis in the area
Review 18:The owner took us back to the wedding location where I had left my car as there were no taxis. Very friendly and attentive
Review 19:We stayed for three nights. The staff were friendly, efficient and welcoming. The facilities were excellent (especially for those travelling with a dog). The meals were very good and very good value. Excellent value for money.
Review 20:Friendly and welcoming staff. Arrived just as kitchen about to close, and chef stayed on a little longer and prepared a lovely meal. Food was very good, service great.
Review 21:Not enough rooms to visit again, with more family and friends.
Review 22:Great place to stay - clean rooms, very comfy beds, superb friendly service and a great breakfast - perfect.
Review 23:Loud music and voices from the bar below went on until after 1 am , resulting in a very poor night's sleep. We had to walk outside around the pub to access the room and weren't shown to the room, just given directions. Disappointed!
Review 24:Comfortable room, very good food
Review 25:Uncomfortable bed, poorly appointed shower room with no shelves and no light above mirror - 'modern' rectangular washbasin unfit for purpose
Review 26:Location
Review 27:We required a taxi and its nigh on impossible to get one . Doesnt help there is no moibile phone signal so you are a little stuck . Bar is a locals bar - very friendly . However its a bar and prices seemed to be restaurant prices .
Review 28:The bedrooms were small but very clean and well equipped . Staff were extremely friendly and helpful .Breakfast was excellent ,hot ,freshly cooked and tasty .,
Review 29:The landlady decided to go out drinking, when she returned home at 12 am she then had a lock in and decided it would be appropriate to put the music on gull blast whilst we tried to sleep.
Review 30:Bedroom, bathroom, location, food. The bar man was wonderful as was the waitress at breakfast.
Review 31:Shame we had to walk outside to get to the restaurant (was raining the night of our stay) Sink in bathroom could have been a little larger.
Review 32:Evening meal excellent. Room very adequate for our needs which was a one night stay.
Review 33:Wasn't sure about the outside steps up to the room but it was fine and I will know not to wear heels next time.
Review 34:Traditional country pub, the food was excellent. The accommodation was spotless and we had a drink in the bar in the evening with the locals who were extremely friendly and a good laugh. All in all a good find and will be returning.
Review 35:Only a small detail. The wi fi was not working and we did get woken by the noise in the bar below our room. We did mention it the next day and it was much quieter on the next night.
Review 36:The staff were very friendly and welcoming and nothing too much trouble. The room was excellent. Well appointed, comfortable clean and with lovely new towels provided. The restaurant was very good and the breakfast exceptional.
Review 37:The entrance at the back at pub going up some steps and walking trough the beer garden. The toilet is small with the sink really small. It's ok for a couple of days.
Review 38:The room is well decorated and comfortable. The breakfast was nice and plenty.
Review 39:Very unhappy about the price of a double room-thought it was extortionate. It said the room was de-luxe but couldn't really see what was de-luxe about it. Bathroom very small especially sink.
Review 40:Had the place to ourselves!Rooms were separate from the pub so very quiet. The restaurant menu looked good but we didn't try it as going to a party. Beautiful area to stay.
Review 41:A excellent place to stay, only two rooms but this is not a disadvantage at all as everything is perfectly done in comapison to one of these hotel chains. Very clean, very cosy and all the staff were friendly, helpful and made us feel very welcome. Food was delicious, no need to go anywhere else for your evening meal - a fair selection of 3 courses and a wide variety of drinks! Would very much home to come back in the near future!
Review 42:We were really looking forward to a nice evening in the cosy bar with it's real fire, drinking real ale chatting with other guests and staff. Sadly the massive TV which seemed to dominate the tiny bar was showing football and totally ruined the atmosphere for us. We got a tray of drinks an retired to our room early instead. Such a shame.
Review 43:The building, the room, the location, the food and the staff were all very good. A lovely little pub in a small Peaks village. The room and the bed were great.
Review 44:shower rather weak bit of noise from the pub below - went on quite late, but not major issue.
Review 45:food in pub was lovely, huge portions. Friendly staff. Cosy room Not far to local walks, attractions. Would need a car though etc
Review 46:The location of the room, having to climb steps outside to reach the main building, Too noisy, Saturday night, didnt sleep well. En suite cold.Asked for more milks and sugars after dinner. Never got. Food was okay, not brilliant.
Review 47:shower room was rather on the small side! The music from the downstairs bar was quite loud on the Saturday evening - however this wouldn't stop us returning !!
Review 48:Our room was very cosy and comfortable with adequate facilities. We used the pub for our 3 night stay and thoroughly enjoyed the presentation and quality of the food - Team of staff very attentive and nothing too much trouble! The pub was very tastefully decorated for Christmas and the Christmas trees on the outside looked stunning.
Review 49:The only thing that let it down was the cooked breakfast, was not cooked well at all. Was a bit of a let down actually- but everything else we could not fault.
Review 50:The rooms were spotless and designed beautifully, lots of lovely touches, staff were friendly and not at all put out by our incredibly late arrival. Slept like a baby.
Review 51:Good location the staff were very friendly and helpful lovely clean modern rooms good food thoroughly enjoyed our stay will definitely stay at the red lion @ knives on again xx
Review 52:My only criticism was lack of vegetarian options on the menu, there was only 1 main course.....however it was delicious
Review 53:Rooms are beautifully decorated Food in restaurant was gorgeous Breakfast staff were very attentive
Review 54:Exceptional evening meal, attentive waiter. We stayed "Dove" which was a Beautiful luxurious bedroom with comfy bed. Spotless bathroom with good shower. Lovely fluffy towels and plenty of complimentary tea and coffee. Slept really well. Although on main road through Kniveton, it wasnt busy so no noise. Incredible breakfast, full English brekkie made to order plus plenty if toast, jam and cereal. Nothing was too much trouble. We were very impressed and would whole heartedly recommend the Red Lion to anybody!
